Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Got some questions:

Did I read correctly? People got $10 from microsoft in an email? How do I find it?

I have 11,000 rewards points. What's the best way to spend it? Buy $10 worth of gift cards?

Are you supposed to get some kind of alert/email from MS when a game in your wishlist goes on sale? Because one of the games I was interested in went on sale but I got no notification so what's the point?

Yes, look for emails from microsoft store but I think they all white page now as they reached their limit

You could just hang on to the points until the next hot deal GC sale, but that will be a little bit unless you want to spend funny money now.

No alerts from the wish list, you have to manually keep checking it.

Best thing is to hold your points until microsoft or xbox credit goes on sale again. No sense in spending them now.

God these deals are beyond awful. Its alarming how many games are only getting 10-15% (many with 13-14% (?)) discounts on the biggest time of the year. Physical still is the absolute best way to go. It's also disappointing to see another disgraceful GWG month, but happy for those who have interest in playing celeste.

From the sale the only good deals I see are Steep $9, Killing Floor $16, and Get Even $7.50. Too bad I own them all already and have played them extensively, but highly recommend them for anyone else.

EDIT: Forgot Mafia 3 at $10. AMAZING deal, and easily my 2016 GOTY.

They send you an email saying "what's behind the tree?" Then you click on it and they say "You get a free $10 gift certificate!" Then when you bend over to pick it up, Bill Gates unzips his pants and...

Well, that was my experience anyway. Same deal with that stupid Badlands promotion. I talked to Microsoft about it, and I got the usual bs runaround. Makes me wonder why I even bothered with the Xbox One.

Anyway. The sale. It's weak, but were we expecting anything else?

As Bloomy mentioned, the Gold discount on games is a discount off the Silver discounted price, not the regular price.

I'm new to the Xbox world and have $28 Microsoft dollars that expire at the end of the month. Do you recommend Halo: The Master Chief Collection or Gears of War 4 or something else? Right now I have RDR2 and Forza Horizon 4.

RBI Baseball - Worth the $6 or whatever it is or is it still crap. Reviews are horrible. Really wish Xbox had a decent Baseball game.

Mafia III - Grabbed a physical copy for $6 the other night. But is it worth returning and paying $15 for the Deluxe edition on her with the DLC. Or is the DLC not worth the $9 price difference.

Seeing Catherine on 360 for $3.99.  Probably going to grab it, since the PS3 version I had turned out to have a defect.  Is there any difference between the PS3 & 360 versions?

$9 for a $30 Season Pass plus the added convenience of no disc doesn't sound bad to me. That being said, I haven't played the game and cannot comment on the content and its quality.

I'd go with MCC just for more bang for the buck. Both are Gamepass titles as well so that might be something to consider as well.

The Gold discount percentages in the original list should now properly reflect discounts from the original price.

And does anyone else find it odd there's a good group of non Gold priced games? I Kinda want to think there's supposed to be an additional 10% off with Gold prices for those games because this seems a bit off.
When MS has these sales with different discounts for Gold vs non-Gold, Play Anywhere titles usually just have 1 single discounted price.

If you are using Perl, you can just change "sort" to "sort { fc($a) cmp fc($b) }" to get a case-insensitive sort. That fc case-folding function does require perl 5.16. If you are on an older version, you can just switch out fc for lc. It's not as technically correct but it's going to work the same for English text.
I don't think anyone's ever said anything about it before, so even though I knew it threw some titles off, I never bothered using a smarter sort.

Nope. We even joked here that once it went BC, it was never going to be $5 ever again.
I did buy it the last time it was on sale, thinking that I would play it on the Xbox 360. I never did that, but fortunately, once it went BC it wasn't even necessary. Apologies to those who missed out... even at ten dollars, it's worth considering. It's a very good game, like Skyrim with a third-person perspective and far more exciting combat. Chakrams 4 lyfe

I wonder if that Mass Effect 3 demo thing is still up. Using the Omniblades was so much fun in that game

Definitely Halo if you're new to Xbox in general. Four games for the price of one, each campaign being about 10 hours long. All four have their multiplayer modes, Halo 4 has a separate co-op survival campaign with 50 levels, as well as the bonus Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer. The game was filled with issues for about 4 years but they've fixed pretty much everything recently, have added new features, and have more on the way. Multiplayer is well populated and you can search for exactly the game and modes you want now pretty easily. If you like the game there is all the ODST campaign as DLC for $5.

Gears 4 is good, but the campaign is kind of a once and done deal. Multiplayer is fun and Horde is pretty good but you'd be behind on the Horde skills that come out of lootboxes at this point. If you don't have them you may want to grab the cheaper

There are plenty of other good things on sale, but we can't really recommend well without a bit more info. Out of your options the only issue is Halo isn't actually on sale now, but I'd still say you can get more bang for your buck than the $10 Gears, if you plan on playing multiplayer at all. It's worth considering GamePass as well since both games are included there, as well as Halo 5 and all the older Gears games.

Thanks. Gamepass looks very appealing but I have to use these funds by the end of the month. Not sure I can spend them on Gamepass.
You can actually use credit on stuff like GamePass and Xbox Gold. It looks like 6 months is still on sale for $30, which I think can stack. I believe you can also still sign up for a month for $1, so it'd be worth doing that then immediately adding on the 6 months.

I've been down on the service on certain things before, but for someone new the the ecosystem like you it is a great deal. Basically 6 months of rental for nearly 200 games and you can buy the stuff you like for up to 20% off if you decide to not keep the service in the future..

I noticed a few of those in that group too and now when I click them it is showing an additional amount off strange brigade was showing at 29.99 now its 25 for example
It seems like Strange Brigade is stacking a 10% Game Pass discount on top of the countdown sale. My scan returns a 40% discount, but the marketplace shows me 50% off. Scrolling down to the Deluxe Edition, it shows $47.99 (40% off) on the base game page, like my scan, but going to it's page, it's showing $40 / 50% off.

I'm seeing the same thing with Tom Clancy's The Division. My scans don't use a login, and that's showing $15 base / $27 Gold, but when I check the marketplace, it's showing $10 / $18.

Seems to apply for games that are in Game Pass, but not Play Anywhere. Gears Ultimate Edition drops to $5, while Gears 4, FH4 and Zoo Tycoon remain the same.

Maybe my scripts weren't the only things messed up by the marketplace change.

I haven't played gears 4 yet, if I am just clicking the links you post (while signed in to my account) will that give me the skins when I eventually get to the game?

Thanks Bloomy!
They should. Search for Snowflake to see if you're getting the skins.

May finally grab What Remains of Edith Finch since it hit that 50%. Might also grab Black the Fall. Those are the two that jumped out at me on my initial scan of the discounts.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2 and PUBG also have the extra Game Pass discount. Maybe whoever set up the sales toggled the wrong thing and they should have an extra 10% off for Gold rather than Game Pass.

Have the markza and lancer but think you've posted 3 so far? So it's working, just need to make sure I'm signed in when I check.
10 of 14 weapons have been released so far. It's the 8th day of Gearsmas, and there have been 2 weapons on a couple days.

Got this physical copy second hand for $1 less. Glad I will finally get to enjoy this title!
Injustice 2 is wonderful- be sure to setup an AI load-out for each character so they can do the multiverse for you while you watch the matches unfold and get stuff done at home

Tempted by Kingdoms of Amalur, but the total cost would be 10 (base game) + 14 (two dlcs)...

24 dollars for a 5 year old previous-gen game...

Worth it?

Well, time for my annual trigger-pull on FIFA. The Gold price is 60% off, which is as good as it's gonna get for another few months, and time is of the essence with FIFA games. So Christmastime is the sweet spot (especially when increased free time is factored in).

I never want to get FIFA (or any other game, really) at release, even though I know each installment's lifespan is shorter than the tenure of a Crystal Palace manager (or Cleveland Browns coach, for those who need to know the NFL equivalent).

I know the game will be obsolete within a year, with practically no trade-in value, but I can't help myself. One of my weaknesses. And the game is pretty much un-backlog-able. Most un-CAG-like of me.

XB1 prices are in the 3rd post.  Gold and non-Gold prices are grouped onto single lines.  Got that working in my script.  Thankfully didn't destroy the universe with some division by zero errors.  I've left a note about the apparent extra discount for Game Pass titles.  Wouldn't be surprised if that is switched over to Gold at some point.

It's always hard to justify buying a game you will actually play when you know deep down you should be spending that money on a half dozen cheaper games for the backlog that you will never play.

Newegg has $100 xbox gift cards for $88.88. Only saves around 11% but better than full price. The $50+10 deal looks to be dead, still OOS.

i hope mafia 3 dlc goes on sale
Me too. I picked up the vanilla disc for less than a fiver during Black Friday.

Edith Finch & Turok 2 look appealing for $10 each, but I know they can go lower. I'll continue being a cheap ass & be patient. Now I'm off to play some more Dead Cells(which is on sale, buy it people)!
