Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

And if you have iTunes, the original Adam West Batman complete series is $29.99. Also of note, entire Community series for $19.99 and TwIlight Zone for $24.99.
Hot Dog that's a good price. Any idea how much longer it will be valid?

Also, Scrubs (minus the final season).

I've always found it weird how some people, especially people who play A LOT of video games and consider themselves to be gamers, would rather have digital licenses that can be taken away at any point rather than physical disc copies that they will own forever if they so wish. Don't they like building up a collection?
Some of us don't own warehouses big enough for our collections. I stopped buying physical books after I topped 400, taking up four 10ft shelves in my house. I stopped buying physical DVD and Blu-rays after I filled up 103 ft. of shelves in another room, just with TV Shows. Movies got relegated to eight binders of various sizes between 3-5 inches wide, and shoved in a closet. I don't have a whole lot of physical games left, which is good because I don't have any damn room left in my house for anything. I may also have a closet full of over 400 Tabletop games as well. Which is why I went digital, and store what digital content I can on two separate FreeNAS servers I have shoved in my Tabletop game closet.

Also, specifically for Xbox One, Gamesharing. My girlfriend and I only have to pay for one copy of a game instead of two, as well as just one subscription to Live/Game Pass/EA Access. With my cheap ass waiting for 67% off or more for almost every purchase, not to mention our MS Reward accounts and Rakuten's occasional 20% off Xbox funny money, we don't actually spend much for our Xbox gaming habit.

They aren't, especially when Live decides you can't play digital games.
When has that ever happened? When has any digital game ever been taken away from someone? I have 500+ digital games and I've never not been able to play them, and it's clear that all 3 generations of digital games will be supported in the future.

Recently I've had some bias added to my opinion(my console won't even read discs now) but my opinion has been the same since the One released.

I used to be physical only. I still have hundreds of physical 360 games but there's just no benefit to them other than trading them in for terrible value.

With digital I can gameshare and get 2 copies of a game for the price of 1, swap games on the fly, pre-load, redownload on any xbox just by signing in, etc, etc

The disc just installs/downloads a digital file anyway and is only used to verify ownership

I am no purist when it comes to digital vs physical. I generally go with the cheaper option regardless of media type. I do however love steel books and grab them on sale even if I have the digital version already.

Physical games keep digital prices artificially high. MS and Sony won't compete with the big box stores on physical games or they won't sell their console. Anybody buying physical games is making EVERYBODY pay more. They think they're saving money, they're not.

Be a true CAG and stop wroking for the big box stores for little or no money, so we can get rid of the middle man..please.
The ignorance on display in this post of basic supply & demand & competition pricing economic principles is truly astounding.

The ignorance on display in this post of basic supply & demand & competition pricing economic principles is truly astounding.
While the post has flaws, it is not completely wrong and not so far out there that it doesn't warrant more than criticism without correction or another point of view. If you're going to tell someone their way of thinking is ignorant and they have no idea what they're talking about but then not provide your own point of view or at least a reason for the critique of theirs, your comment becomes pointless and is just name calling.

The argument is true, however we all know prices wouldn't change because the prices are still such a meta thing people will pay the what I still consider $10 increase from last gen.

Recently Live was down for a few hours and I think was blocking people from playing games. But otherwise I can't think of this happening in any real substantial way.

For me it depends on the game/price. For a game I am going to play for a week or two and never again? Probably going to go physical. For a game I hope to be playing for months? Digital is the way I am likely to go. I like to trade stuff I am not likely to play again. But if the game is on sale for like $10 digital I will usually take the convenience over physical. My brother picked up a PS4 for Christmas and we are game sharing (I doubt he will buy much). Nice that he can play all my digital games. I am picking up Borderlands GOTY edition on PSN (and likely Live too at some point soon). I have a 20% off code and if my brother decides he wants to play it we can play together. Don't think it is his type of game though.

I played the crap out of BL2 on 360/One/PS3 and PS4. I also played a decent amount of the original BL on 360.

I found with physical (especially new games) I was racing though them so I could trade them while they still had some value. With digital I don't feel I need to finish it for the next trade promo or before the value tanks.

One of the main reasons for cheaper pricing for physical is because of physical limitations to have space in a store. It's why AAA games get cut so rapidly over a few months time, you don't typically see those cuts on smaller titles (or Nintendo.)

If you want to buy digital, buy digital.
If you want to buy physical, buy physical.

If you are complaining about someone buying the option *you* don’t like... you have the problem. I buy both but prefer physical most times.

There has been games that were removed from the stores, if you had downloaded it... you can still have it. If you didn’t, you can’t. (Wasn’t there a demo that did this a few years ago?)
I have the digital version of a game on psn, they released a goty version, I can’t purchase it “unavailable” to me. Have to buy the dlc individually to have the full game, which costs more than the goty version on sale.. if I had the disc, I could trade it in and pay like $3 for the goty.

I don’t think anyone complained about buying one or the other but was arguing that buying digital should be cheaper because it reduces packaging, shipping and shelf cost etc. However I’d argue that digital costs more because it gives them way higher profit margins and they’re cool with that because it’s a luxury right now for console gamers who still prefer physical over digital. PC gamers however and stupid digital and hence get deals, sales and competition everywhere.

LOL...You're complaining about people complaining. I love the arrogance....keep going and thanks for the laughs. Then you're telling other people they've a problem...lmao.I think that worse than people complaining about buying physical games that keep prices high. One is stupid and the other is just plain silly..lol. But, you keep telling people how to live an think, while complaining about people telling you what to think. MIRRORS ARE GREAT, AREN'T THEY?

If you're buying physical games on console you're keeping prices and you're not saving money. You are costing gamers BILLIONS AND POLLUTING THE PLANET. That's not complaining, that's a DEMONSTRABLE FACT! That is called informing people.

I'm allowed to complain, but your not...lol. I love right wingers , they don't' live in reality and are so easily taken down. Complain about people complaining..THAT'S EPIC..LOL.

So far PT is the only (fairly certain) Demo that was completely wiped from a console digital store even if you had the license for it. Everything else that has been delisted has had the ability to be redownloaded after the removal.

Source? Because I would love to see the economics behind this (especially since games have been at a stagnant price of $60 for something like 15 years, despite inflation and rising development costs)

I wish they had released the XboxOne now that digital actually had a foot in the door. I really wanted that share between friends option but of course the masses had to bitch and moan.

Yeah, if anything games would be much higher (if not twice the price) nowadays if they had adjusted for inflation.

I'm just going to pour one out for Song Summoner, since it was quietly removed from the app store when Apple stopped releasing click-wheel devices and removed all games that were on them. It doesn't even show in my purchase history anymore (of course we're talking about 15 years-ish later).

It was a fun little tactics game from Square where you generated units from the songs on your iPod to use in grid-based battles.

Uh-oh, we've entered the "complaining about complaining" loop. And with the hard left into "right winger takedown" territory, Goodwin's Law should be right around the corner.

I think there will always be games that are doomed to be lost, especially digital only titles, and that's part of the industry. You can't play FFXI on 360 anymore, doesn't matter if you have it on disc, even though the PC version is still kicking. In 5 years, the original Destiny will be probably be offline, unless Bungie comes to their senses and integrates legacy content moving forward.

I also own wayyy more digital games this gen than physical, but I haven't paid more than $10 for 90% of them. I love the convenience and the lack of material possessions taking up space, I'm just unwilling to pay $60 for something I can't sell / trade / etc. I figure if it's the price of a movie ticket or less (a 2 hour experience that I can't take home), then the time I spend with a game is comparably worth it to me.

I think the only solution here is for everyone to buy what they would prefer not to buy to prove that the other side is WRONG!!!!!!!!

An always online game is just a countdown to removal. Some of them live way past their lifespan though so that's nice, hell it took Halo 2 multiplayer 2 console generations to be pulled and something like WoW brought back legacy servers (didn't they? I'm not a PC playet.)

Oh absolutely. I have several failed MMOs and such that are no longer available to play. And other games installed on my 360/PS3 that are no longer available for purchase, like TMNT The Arcade Game and Scott Pilgrim.

But Song Summoner... That one I actually want to go back and play again during downtime at work.

Man, remember the cost of games like Final Fantasy 3 (6) when they came out? Yeah, I 'member

No idea how a discussion about physical v. digital turned all political.  Did Trump tweet something about it today?

Gotta love it when somebody starts insulting people for not doing what he wants them to then doubles down with political garbage. At 25 posts, he ain't exactly a stellar member of the community.

I'm curious where he got the skyisfalling notion of us monsters buying physical robbing him of BILLIONS tho. I mean did I fall into the entitledb subreddit?

Physical games are not what the reason behind digital prices being so high: corporate greed and idiots buying $2 reticles and $50 loot boxes are. Stop buying that junk, stop fueling the nickel and dime machine, stop crying like an entitled brat.

Effect change by telling EA, Activision, Sony, Microsoft, etc that full priced digital is bs. Vote with your wallet, don't come at gamers trying to enjoy their hobby and save money.

well they are probably frustrated since reddit shutdown today reasoning being their tired of deleting post that trigger them and going all liberal terrorist all the time is tiring and also donate to our causes today, etc...on a lighter note

How do you tell a male hot dog from a female hot dog ?

Look at the Buns!

With 1$ promos on Game Pass, gamesharing, reward points and a few good sales, digital has been really cheap as of late.

Live has had issues with digital rights since like last September where you can sign on Xbox Live but it won't let you play any digital game.

I brought my xbox to a local tournament and couldn't even load up any fighter that night unless I bought the disc.

That's not to mention whenever Live decides to go down (which to be fair, doesn't happen often) or my internet connection. I really just don't like a giant corporation telling me when I can or can't play a game I bought and with digital, it's waaaaaay easier for them to control that shit.

mine said 500 points
Mine said "up to 250 points" in the email. It's a multi day thing where you get points for going to the dashboard and clicking the featured location. My email had 2 "hidden" +25 bonus points you could click on.

My opinion is that physical is better for games I intend to just play once or try out. That way I can trade them in if I want to cheapen the cost of that game even more.

Digital is more for games I want to keep / replay, multiplayer games (less disc changing), just so darn cheap,or I had expiring free Microsoft money.

I do not fault anyone for having a different opinion. I’ll only fault you for bashing my opinion instead of having a civil discussion. And bloomy, I join the masses in faulting bloomy.

Virtua Racing came out for $100. The only game to use the SVP chip.

I buy most of my games physical, because I'm old fashioned and I like seeing them on the shelf.  Also, I really like collector's editions and steelbooks.

I do, however, buy some games digital (not including "free" games for GWG/etc).  Namely PC games, and occasionally a game with a sharp discount of 50% or more.  And Vita games, because Overlord Sony hates Vita owners.

Clearly, I am destroying the planet and driving us to lose billions of dollars in the video game market.
