Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Don't know if it was mentioned but the OG Xbox disc of Battlefield 2 Modern Combat will be read as the 360 version and allow you to download it. Just tried it and it worked.
i wonder if that works in the same way as san andreas...where a game has a different version on OG and 360. anyone try double agent yet?

Anyone know where the best prices for XBL Gold/Game Pass at? My current Gold expires in October, and I have 2 months of Game Pass left. So looking for 2 years and 6 months to max out Ultimate, but I don't really want to pay MSRP.

If anyone has Circle K gas stations near by there's a chance Surge is in the fountain drink machine. I believe Circle K is regional, and I've only seen Surge at one station south of Chicago.

2 years is more affordable buying digital from Costco. But you need a membership or friend/family with a membership to take advantage of the offer

I'd love if it were From Software just to see the internet meltdown but I think it would most likely be Platinum Games.

If they do acquire from software I hope they remaster demon souls .That shit would look glorious in 1080p especially taking down that adjucator boss.
Atlus published Demon's Souls in North America but I think Sony owns the IP.

I think that ones going to give you separate games bc they were different on each system and they list them both on the bc list. 360 version went bc last year.

I kind of doubt From Software would accept being acquired in the current era. They've had nothing but hit after hit and no trouble funding projects. Sony actually owns the Demon Souls franchise, that's why they changed to Dark Souls when they went to Bandai Namco to publish on both platforms.
Man, what a long shot. FromSoft has had a lot of success on PC and xbox, and are clearly interested in multiplatform releases. Demon Souls and Bloodborne were huge successes for the company and maybe I can buy the idea that they would like to move away from exclusivity, but I dunno. I don't think they're unhappy with how the exclusivity deals with Sony have worked out. Maybe tho. They could look at the success of Bloodborne and just wonder what they could have made with a multiplatform release.

I see nothing coming out of Microsoft these days that they are at all against multi-platform releases. At this point I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see MS games on a Sony system. It seems they are open to literally putting them everywhere.

Could be a deal where everyone benefits and they could still work something out with Sony on those IPs, remember for Sekiro they came to Activision for publishing, so I wouldn't totally dismiss them being on the market or looking for some other relationship with even an American company.

Haven't seen much new Xbox stuff worth mentioning today, but on the Nintendo side it's been confirmed the Breath of the Wild 2 will be in the same basic Hyrule as before. There is also a massive amount of backlash to the announcement that only Pokemon in the new games National Dex (basically this means the available roster in the new game) can be transferred into Sword and Shield, meaning that many Pokemon will be cut entirely. On top of that, they implied that they won't be patched in later, and that this is probably the philosophy going forward for the mainline Pokemon games.

So far it seems like they're willing to put games on other platforms "where they fit". Minecraft Dungeons makes sense on all platforms because the other games in the franchise have been and the series is super popular still. Cuphead only came to Switch where it was highly requested, and I'd say 2D platformers still get the most life on Nintendo consoles. Super Lucky's Tale wasn't actually a Microsoft game.

Then we have games like The Outer Worlds and Psychonauts 2, which were prior contracts that were in place when these studios were bought. While they probably could pull a game from other platforms if it doesn't already have a publisher or with a big enough check, it would cause extremely negative reactions from the gaming community as a whole, much like we're seeing with the games on PC the Epic is scooping up.

If we were to see a huge game like Halo: Infinite or Gears 5 on the PS4 or 5, I think we'd be in a different ballpark, but for now I think it's mostly smaller indie games that are what can realistically make the jump, and we just have to see PC as part of the Xbox ecosystem now.

With Bayonetta 3 and Astral Chain being Nintendo exclusives and the whole mess with Scalebound I highly doubt Platinum will show up witb MS any time soon.

Can someone here explain how buying things on the Microsoft store works?  I currently have $32.01 in my balance and am looking for a 12 month code. Would I buy able to transfer that balance to a user in exchange for a code they redeem with there built up points? If I buy them something, does it give me a code that I can then give to them? There are buy as gift options correct? Would I be able to use my balance to put on a gift card and then give that code to a user? I'm just seeing what options I have in getting that last 12 month code. Thanks.

Unless you're in a Family Account with them, and they're listed as a child account, no... you can't just transfer money to somebody.

If you choose the "Buy as gift" option, it sends a code to the email address you'll specify during checkout. If you don't choose Buy As Gift, it will just auto-redeem to your own account.

No, you can't put your balance on a gift card and give to somebody. You can use your balance to buy something for yourself, or you can use your balance to buy something for somebody else.

So if you have $32 on your account, and you want to buy a 12 month code for somebody, your ONLY option within the MS store is "Buy As Gift, apply the $32 in your account, and pay the rest out of your own pocket."

Hey TV nerds, I'm probably buying a larger TV. Still not all-in on 4k, but since the X1S supports HDR, I'm looking at options. May eventually get an X1X or inevitably, Scarlett, and probably won't buy a new TV for a long time.

Currently have the TCL 43" 4 Series. I like it just fine, it could be a little fancier. Tom's Guide says the 5 series is the best 4k TV under $500. Leaning towards the 55" TCL 5 Series (currently $380 at Best Buy). Is the difference in 5 and 6 series worth the extra money? A friend said she'd buy my 43" for $200 so that'll bring my cost down too.
I have the TCL 6 series and the full array localized dimming is night and day to the old TVs. This also give the TV a "real" HDR mode. There is a reason the 6 series was 2018's TV of the year on so many sites. Also I'm not sure if Dolby Vision (a superior HDR mode currently used by only a few services, like netflix...) compatibility was added to the older models

Do people really play with the brightness turned up to max or near max settings or is that how HDR works? my 08 1080p lcd Samsung I have brightness to 7/10 and backlight 7/10 otherwise any higher and it's too damn bright and hurts the eyes.
No, it's not brightness that's turned up, it's backlight that is set to max on HDR TVs, but only for HDR games and movies. The setting changes back to a low number for non-hdr stuff. Your settings on a standard lcd will have no comparison to what some of the settings do on proper HDR sets. If you turned up the backlight to max on your TV, it would kill any of the TV's ability to show deep rich blacks. How dark a TV can get is insanely important to image quality. HDR can do both. On both TV types, turning up the brightness too high will move you away from proper black levels and wash out the picture.

8K isn’t going to be adopted very quickly and will probably be pricey for a long time. And honestly you will need at least a 75” TV to see the difference.

I wouldn’t hold off on buying a TV for 8K support.
8K is totally worthless on consumer-sized TVs. It's sad that manufacturers are even wasting time on that crap. Television at 4K has finally reached the "good enough" point for resolution. It would be better now to focus on improvements in contrast, color gamut, motion/persistence and anything else that might make an actual difference in the picture rather than just cramming more useless pixels into the screen so they can put a bigger number on the marketing brochure. If you project onto a 100"+ screen or you have an 85" TV, you might get a small benefit from 8K, but that's about the extent of it.
For the most part, 75 inch seems to be sweetspot for consumer size 8K TVs. I worked in the TV department of an electronics store when 720p and 1080p were coming out and we had the same thing of people saying the human eye can't see the difference, then people said it about 1080p and 4K, now it's 4K and 8K. It is not just the size of the TV but also the distance you sit from it. I'm about (Edit) 7 feet away from a 65 inch, and the 4k is night and day with my old 1080p. I agree that many consumers will not benefit from 8K because of how close they would need to sit to see the difference would be uncomfortable. For me, I'm excited for the higher pixel density to be used in VR

MS should get in touch with Konami and get some IP's from there since they aint doing shit with them
We have a Castlevania slot machine at the casino I work at. So they are doing stuff with their IPs, just not what you would like or expect. As a matter of fact, we have a ton of Konami slots, but Castlevania is the only one I can remember being based on one of their video game properties

I tried watching the Square Enix E3 press conference and couldn't get five minutes into it. I don't need woo's and live reactions. Just give me the darn trailer audio and mute the stupid audience.

I don't mind it if it's genuine. That audience was filled with fans. Unlike the fake ass Bethesda show. Part of the fun of E3 for me is the live show aspect.

that's overkill but to each their own haha
I re-measured, I'm actually about 7tf away from my 65 inch TV, 9ft if reclined. It may sound like overkill but it really is a sweetspot for field of vision. It gives me about a 35 degree viewing angle, which is close to the 40 degree angle that THX recommends for an immersive cinematic experience. The SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) recommends a smaller 30 degree viewing angle for average viewers. If you want to see what size TV that would mean for you, just measure the distance away from your TV in inches, and multiply it by 0.84 for the THX standard, or multiply it by 0.625 for SMPTE. For me, 7 feet = 84 inches, so:

THX: 84 x 0.84 = 70.5 inch TV

SMPTE: 84 x 0.625 = 52.5 inch TV

Friend of mine has been out there covering E3 for a site and not one positive word about anything, minus this shitty attitude that "Sony won by not coming". Happy Sony wasn't there, effing miserable about everything actually there. These are the people that ruin the experience for others by just showing up

But I'm there for the games and nothing else and I'm sure that's why vast majority are there to watch. Even than if the audience noise is somehow important they can have their presence known during the live presentation, there is absolutely no reason to leave the microphone on for the audience during the trailers. It distracts from everything.

In case anybody missed it (or if it's new?) there's an E3 punchcard on MS Rewards.  200 points for clicking a few links.  For the one that says "Donate Points" you just have to click the link; you don't have to donate anything.

Don't know if it was mentioned but the OG Xbox disc of Battlefield 2 Modern Combat will be read as the 360 version and allow you to download it. Just tried it and it worked.
I did this last night. i'm gonna keep an eye out for a copy of splinter cell double agent to see if it works, just out of curiosity. i know the 360 version is inferior but i just want to try it. kinda like san andreas.

Grabbed a copy of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory on eBay. Always was my favorite SC game. Still remember being blown away by the graphics at the time, lol.

I wonder if Enchanted Arms won’t be available digitally.

Most of the other games that became BC this week are already listed

Both Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean: The Last Hope were added for digital purchase to coincide with the announcements (along with Too Human, but that's a different story), so hopefully Enchanted Arms will be too. However, it is pretty cheap at GameStop.

And that’s why I never got too excited over gamepass. There are three games leaving this month that I wanted to play. I’m not sure I’ll get to now. I have gotten use out of gamepass so I’m not totally against it. I got in on a 2mo/$2 promo and then the 3mo/$1 and then the super sweet ultimate conversion deal. But it always baffles me when people comment that they can trade in a disc copy of a game because it’s coming to gp. And I don’t really think gp is worth it without the insane discounts they’ve been offering people

Most Microsoft first party titles should never leave. If I can get a year for even $60, just one new release like Forza Horizon 4 pays for it and then I get tons of other stuff to play.

My feelings are similar to yours on this. The way I play games (with a huge backlog and very sporadically because of my work schedule), there is no guarantee I'll beat even shorter games very quickly. That means I usually need longer access to games to actually a) be in the mood for that game b) to actually beat it. I also cashed in on the sweet conversion deal for Game Pass, but barring that I don't think it would really be my thing.

I would pay 50 cents a month for a Square sub. They don’t have enough new games to justify it... the only reason Microsoft does is because they are buying studios like crazy to build a library like Netflix of content they own.

Enough good stuff gets added on a regular basis that it's worth it to me, similar to Netflix adding and removing things, although w/ the price increase, Netflix is looking less and less attractive. It helps that there are so many discount ways to extend the subscription for GP.

Gamepass games leaving is the only thing you got in your life prioritizing that embarrassing backlog of yours. Now play those games before they’re gone and set the rest aside. Oh some suck? Boom, checking games off your list already.

I Got Game Pass this month and have bought about seven games since getting it. Nothing has changed except now I can play Crackdown 3 and be glad I didn't spend $15 on it or whatever and other games that I'll play once and never think of again.

Its great for this exact situation. I really enjoyed Crackdown 3 but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it and now that I finished it I will likely uninstall it and never play it again. Same with Forza Horizon 4, it was fine I liked 3 more and again happy to have not paid full price for it to learn that I should stick with 3.

Saved me from buying FH4 and Crackdown 3. But also quite a few games I would have been interested in like Outer Wilds and a ton of other indie games.

On a related note, I really need to take advantage of the PC side of GamePass now. There’s some great games that aren’t on Xbox in there like Into the Breach and Slay the Spire. Opus Magnum might be worth checking out as well.

Can't decide if I should pick up kingdom come or kingdom hearts. The former would just be to get rid of a disc. Is KH good if I have only played like 2 hours of the 3DS one? May just wait until they both are cheaper.
