Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

It's also a free play weekend..

One of my most played games this year. Beat everything, twice. (Bought xbox version, got PC version free with a vid card)

I'll give it a go with the vanilla version, thanks. Hopefully the gold digital will be on sale again soon.
You'll never get the dlc itself on sale if you think you're interested. $40 for pass, I doubt we'll see it below $20. I don't understand why some companies rarely discount dlc. A little later drop the price to entice retail players.

I would love to get the Gold edition while it’s still on sale. I just don’t have enough MS Rewards points saved up to get a $25 card and then pay the difference. I can however trade some games toward a used copy of the vanilla version and get it for dirt cheap. If the Gold edition doesn’t go on sale again, I’ll just pay up for the season pass.

You don't really need the Gold version. It just gives you access to stuff early. I've played the Division 2 since release and the vanilla has a bunch of content already.

Just saw some combat gameplay for the Jedi Fallen Order.....  here comes another souls clone....  Looked to me like Dark Souls with a light saber.  I was hoping for a faster, more acrobatic style.  Not as excited anymore for it. :(

Anything with souls like combat is a plus in my books but I'll wait till it drops in price to get it.

Sounds like an instant buy to me. Can't wait for this game.

It's the only game I'm planning on buying this holiday thanks to GamePass, and I should have my MS Rewards points lined up correctly to be nothing out of pocket even more so if we ever get a "Hot Deal" that works. Kinda Funny Games did about 20-30 minutes on it this week and mentioned Sekiro a few times more so than Dark Souls. Either is probably a plus for me.

Same. Gamepass is the real mvp.

I just looked up a gameplay video after seeing your comment (might be the same one you saw) and my interest in this game just went down to zero. Not a fan of the Souls combat, and the non combat stuff actually looked kind of boring.

I wish Outer Worlds was out today, I'm home sick with a cold and would enjoy the excuse to play all day. Instead of I've been playing Dead Cells all weekend after the Game Pass quest encouraged me to pick it up again, and damn that game is good.

The Windows 10 version on Game Pass has XBL functionality, but it seems that it does not support cross-save. Which is great for folks who like to get achievements because it has it's own separate list, not great for me who was hoping to continue the game on the small screen when I'm out of town.

I might have been subliminally influenced by your previous post and fired up some Dead Cells this weekend, finally got an achievement for beating the first boss without being hit. So that sent me back down the rabbit hole, started leveling up the Forge guy that gives you a 100% chance for + quality items and so far a 50% chance of ++ quality. That's making things a lot more interesting again. I've been robbed on the Time Keeper boss twice now where's he's got one hit in on me while he's dying. Currently stuck at the last boss on the 1 Boss Stem Cell difficulty, but might have to give this run up, getting destroyed by him.

Achievements have definitely kept me playing more than I might have otherwise, since it provides reasons and challenges to play in ways you might not otherwise. Last night I did a run for beating Hand of the King with a starter item (shield) and the Resurrection mutation, and it was actually a lot of fun and forced me to think more carefully since I lost one of the weapon slots to the crappy shield.

I think I'll put it down again for awhile, and when I fire it up again, it'll feel new again.

Ha if that vid was supposed to turn me off to the game looks a lot more like Uncharted or God of War for the PS4, hype increases.

Borderlands 3 arrived and it's fun, but it's a technical mess. I kinda wish I'd read up on the issues it's having, they aren't a total dealbreaker but they all add up to the game being a lot less fun.

-horizontal split-screen only, but the pop-up menues telling you about guns/loot/etc are still always vertical, so it's often hard to read the stats and descriptions of items you're picking up

-the above is made worse by how tiny the text is on everything. We have a 43" TV and sit less than 10 feet away, but both my GF and I had to get up to read the screens pretty often

-the button prompts for opening things are similarly tiny and it's easy to miss prompts in the environment

Seriously, the text size issues seem inexcusable, it reminds me of when Dead Rising on the 360 didn't display correctly on SD televisions.
Having only a 43" tv seems inexcusable when you can get decent 55" 4K tv's for like $250. $450 for a 65"

Initial beef with Jedi fallen order was my interest in playing some random red headed dudes story. Should’ve been create a character with customization and skill trees.

The video makes the combat look so fucking slow and plodding. Oh no stormtrooper shooting at me. Hold dodge as I slowly trudge up to him, hit hit dead. Alright on my way. Count me more out for sure. Or as you geniuses showed me, redbox that shit.

Looked fun to me but the person playing it sucked. Seemed like it was more how the person controlling the character was playing then the game. Dude got hit a bunch of times for zero reason. That boss fight was dope. I'm hyped.

Something being a good deal doesn't mean it's affordable. The 43" 4k TCL I have is the one I bought 2 years ago for $260, which was a great price at the time. It was an upgrade from a 25" computer monitor I'd been using for games, so I was pretty happy with it. A larger TV is definitely on the agenda, but between moving earlier this year, medical expenses, and animal adoptions, I can't justify an upgrade when what we have is quite adequate for our needs (except when it comes to poorly optimized text in a game). Same reason I don't have an X1X.

Thanks for playing, though.

Yes, how dare i try and enjoy my movies and video games!
I guess if you think a 65" TV is even remotely enjoyable. If you're playing on anything less than a 150" 16K tv, you aren't even worth my time which is why I'm having my butler's butler type this response to you while I shop for gold plated diamonds.

Meh. I’m in a 4K movie group that basically makes me feel like my TCL P607 55” TV isn’t bright enough and nothing is good enough unless you have a 65” or greater OLED.

I don’t care. It’s what I could afford and I’m happy with it. What makes me happy is what’s good enough for me.

Confession, my 55 inch tv is only 1080p. My eyes aren’t good enough to care about 4K. Only reason I have an Xbox one X is because I got it from my work for free, although as long as the new Xbox is $499 next year I’ll prob grab it day one, $549 or above and I’ll wait.

You would still be blown away by the HDR presentation (depending on the game). Between the leap from 2K to 4K and SDR to HDR, the second one provided the bigger bang for the buck. When I play downstairs (X1X/4K/HDR) D2 is beautiful, and when I play upstairs (X1S/2K/SDR) the game is dull.

16k? Plebe. Who even thinks a Butler is expensive anymore? My smart home AI is better.

Yeah, I wish more 1080p displays supported HDR, but since most movies only add HDR with 4k, there isn't a huge market for it despite PS4 and Xbox both supporting HDR regardless of resolution.

After discovering gray markets for digital movies, I buy a lot of them now. If I buy a movie I try to get 4k and it's a big difference most of the time, even knowing that streaming 4k is not as big an upgrade as physical media can be. What really perplexes me is that iTunes / Vudu / etc still sell SD movies.

Also, it's funny to think about how long it took to getting to an HD standard for media and now people are already insisting it's not good enough.

Peasant. My 355” 48K screen laughs at your bargain bin TV.

*slowly raises hand*
I have an X hooked up to my 10-year-old 51” 720P Samsung plasma. No complaints. (Fiancé has the 4K 50” - gift from a friend so I didn’t have to worry about the extra expense - also with an X.)

Yeah, when mentioning 4K and HDR; it's usually the 4K that gets all the attention. HDR is a much bigger game changer if you pair it with something that uses it properly. With HDR, people usually only mention the brightness and darkness of the blacks; but really the expanded color palette is the killer feature. You don't know how bad SDR until you go back from HDR and everything looks a bit washed out.

The only thing I noticed with 4K was less aliasing in some games. That said, my eyesight isn't what it used to be, so 4K in some respects is wasted on me. I'm not even going to bother with 8k when it's a common thing.

Wait, there is no way the same people who made New Vegas made Alpha Protocol.
There is a good game buried in Alpha Protocol, it's just buggy and feels janky since it was rushed out for whatever reasons. The writing itself is still solid, and it has one of the better choice/consequence systems of last gen. Gameplay has never really been Obsidian's strong-suit.

I'm not sure how much crossover there is between the dev teams of New Vegas and Alpha Protocol. I'm pretty sure they must have different teams because they released just 5 months apart, but they do share at least some writers. Just judging from the credits I think Chris Avellone might have been more on that project (though he did write some of the NV companions and a lot of stuff in it's DLCs), while Josh Sawyer is is known to be the lead on New Vegas.

Technically speaking, many of the writing team on Outer Worlds must be different as a lot of them left Obsidian. Chris Avellone is gone, and I know one of the bigger quest writers left a while ago and was lead on Horizon Zero Dawn's story. I think this is the first big Obsidian project from the classic Fallout guys, and one of the lead writers(?) is a woman I'm unfamiliar with, who I think worked on the Pillars games. Maybe the combat team has more in common with New Vegas though.

So RE2make is on sale for $25 at Amazon but it's physical copy. Has the digital copy hit this price yet? Really want to play it and I'd say that's even my price point but with Xbox I usually prefer digital. Not opposed to buying it physically but if the price is similar or we think it'll hit that price digitally soon I'll probably wait since my backlog is years long anyway

I think the lowest was either $35 or $40 digitally. I'm guessing $30 at the lowest for the holiday sales digital. The game hasn't had a holiday season to sell in yet since it came out in January.
