Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

Microsoft seems to have removed the forums from ExpertZone. It pretty much was just people bitching that the US store hasn't been restocked in over a year so I see why, but it probably isn't a good sign.

Well, it seems I misjudged my premium refurbished console. The TV I was using on my trip had a box hooked up to it for the internet and routing HDMI connections, and it appears that that was the issue with the screen tearing. I've been using the back-up system on my TCL and zero problems.
I'd still keep an eye on it, and lean on the side of returning it during the window of opportunity. I've been having weird things happen that I've been making excuses for on one of my old classic 360's for a while now. It did have a good run though, but I've finally ordered a cheap S model to replace it.

I'm surprised they even have one since each of their courses and articles are typically crowded with fake comments from bots and such.

Regarding the Game Pass Quests - it's great that they're giving us points for completing the quests but why so many different quests with games I won't be able to finish just trying to get all the points? I cant' even enjoy the games anymore.

Strange Brigade - You can get the Earn the Queensbury Rule, ok? achievement pretty quickly by playing Horde mode. You have to press RB to do a melee attack. It was kinda awkward but I got it on the third wave. This will complete one part of the Strange Brigade quest and net you 25 points. It will also check off the "shooters" task under the "Endless Play" Quest.

The "Play Something New" quest might have a glitch. I have not received 100 points even though it was checked off as completed. I sent an email to MS support to look into it.

For the "Endless Play" quest -> Sports and Racing, I played Hydro Thunder but for some reason I did not get an achievement for winning a race. I should have gotten it for "Earning a bronze or better in any Single Player Event." I'll try it with a X1 title instead of a BC title.
Rocket League has a bunch of easy achievements if you haven't played it yet. They count toward sports and the overall get 21 achievements quest. Also, the game is fun!

I'm not even kidding my computer got blue screen of death less than 3 seconds after posting this. I don't even remember the last time i had a blue screen. I'm sorry Bill. Please leave me alone. Posting from my phone rn until i have access to my computer again.

The DLC comes in about 3/4 into the game storyine wise. In all honesty it's all pretty forgettable. There's small nods to older Deus Ex games in there and can remap some of your augmentations, but really doesn't factor much if at all into the overall storyline of the main game.
I just looked it up and I’m at the mission right before when the DLC is supposed to take place. But, I think I’ll just skip it then and do it at the end.

To piggyback on that notion, I think that gamers fall into two groups nowadays - gamers who play to be challenged and gamers who play to relax. If people want to be challenged while playing a game, there is a sense of accomplishment that comes from beating a difficult game or a difficult section of a game. But, I play to relax. My life is difficult enough as it is.
I admit, I've definitely changed in my old age. I used to start and beat everything on the hardest mode available, but I just don't have it in me anymore. I finally stopped when Max Payne 3 beat me down enough to see it wasn't fun anymore. I still start all the Halo games on Heroic, but that's about it for me. I actually shy away from games that mention extreme difficulty, as I just don't have the patience to be frustrated by something that's supposed to be fun. No shame!

The Game Pass quest tracking is off for me.  It shows me having completed the one with 21 achievements, but I haven't popped that many since the start of the year.  If you go back to Dec 30th when I was still trying to complete the TA challenge, I'd have more than 21.  Also, the genre one shows me with the shooter and action / adventure ones completed, but not the sports / racing, while FH4 appears to be the only game I've got an achievement in since the start of the year that qualifies for that quest.

I don't enjoy games that are so difficult that I can't progress in them without replaying the same stage over and over. I feel like a hamster on a running wheel Monday through Friday, but at least I'm getting paid for that. If I sit down to enjoy a game, I want to feel like a superhero or a god or whatever that character is. I try a game on normal mode, and then, if I'm not making any significant progress, I will play on easy or casual or whatever the next step down is. I'm not ashamed of that fact. I don't have anything to prove to anyone. Anyone who thinks less of me for that can kiss my ass. I paid for the game, so I would like to see as much of it as I can to get my money's worth out of it.
I’m in the same camp. I play games to escape and relax. I want some challenge but nothing that drastically challenges me especially if it’s an rpg or action game with a good story. If the main reason I am playing a game is for the story, I’ll play it on normal or easy automatically. I don’t want to reload saves or try a level or section of one for hours. Going through the frustration of beating a game on a harder difficulty holds no motivation for me. I bought the game for enjoyment and I’ll play it so I can get the most fun out of it no matter what. That’s why I played Skyrim remastered with mods even though I knew I wouldn’t get any achievements.

I'm on the same boat. There's many games where I'll check the play on normal/easy (unless there's an achievement for normal), when I just want to knock the game off of my backlog or enjoy the story. There's very few games where I've actually played on harder difficulty from the start.

Off the top of my head, it's only Halo that I start on heroic and (after many playthroughs), I'm playing through Mass Effect 2 on Insanity to get the achievement.

I'm stubborn, so I still try to complete things without easing up on the difficulty.  Particularly if there are achievements involved.  Last night, I was trying to complete the Porsche bowling showcase in FM6.  Target score is 470k, my first run was ~450k, so I figured it would take a few more tries once I got the layout of the track.  Got to 465k, but after many failed attempts, the game suggested I lower the difficulty.  fuck that.  Check TA for tips - suggestion was to lower the difficulty.  Nope.  An hour and a half later, I finally crack 490k.  To think I skipped the endurance showcase because it would take an hour or so to complete.

Still partway through my solo Insane run of Gears 4.  Will complete that.  Eventually.  Then there's the Inconceivable solo achievement.  Will attempt that without cheesing it with a casual partner.

I may no longer have the reflexes to handle something Cuphead, much less Super Meat Boy, Celeste or Cloudberry Kingdom.  Though I will keep trying.

Added the Bethesda tables (already had the others on sale), Sine Mora EX and Stories of Bethem to the backlog.  May add Wonder Boy and Ys as well.

Rocket League has a bunch of easy achievements if you haven't played it yet. They count toward sports and the overall get 21 achievements quest. Also, the game is fun!
Doh! I just renewed my Game Pass two nights ago and the quests haven't shown up on my rewards list yet. I blasted through 15 Rocket League achievements last night. Here's hoping they will still count

Does anyone have Rad Rodgers? It looks like a fun game and I was wondering if anyone could give me their impressions. Thanks.

I picked it up during this sale. I'm just a couple of levels in, but it seems like a fun run 'n gun so far. The writing will probably get at least a smirk. I had been waiting for a ~50% off sale, so I jumped on this one immediately.

I Finally got around to watching that Tomb Raider reboot movie this weekend. My only real compliment is I enjoy PG-13 bow and arrow movies because every shot is an instant killshot regardless of where it hits. Right pec. Killshot. Shoulder. Killshot. Side of the leg. Killshot. Besides that was really hoping someone would turn to Lara Croft and ask her at the end "what are you? Some kinda Tomb Raider??" Also I'm posting this simply as proof or a reminder that there was a reboot Tomb Raider movie and her enemy was the Unity gaming physics engine logo.

And Bing is really running out of ideas today when the quiz is to test my Verve Pipe knowledge.

Just FYI to those with pinball fx2 table issues. I finally got a reply back from the support email someone provided here. They asked me for proof of purchase through MS so I'm hoping they will get this squared away. I'll post an update when or if I get it resolved.

Definitely not going to roll the dice on a deal like this again though.

I bought it based on some posts about it. For $5 you can't really go wrong. It's a classic run and gun type game. Bright colors, smooth controls. The thing that sold me more was the free DLC upgrade coming later for XBOX/PS4 owners.
FOMO is kicking in on this one pretty hard. At least the game is on deep discount sale before they add a bunch of stuff (looking at you Shovel Knight).

I didn't pick it up yet but the one consistent complaint I saw across reviews was that it was pretty short. 8ish levels lasting 3 to 4 hours.

This is the game I posted about a couple weeks ago. It's coming to Switch soon with several new characters, 2 player co-op, mini-games, and new levels. This is going to be a free update for Xbox. I think I'll bite because of that, the new 3D Realms characters alone look pretty cool, and all of them seem to have unique abilities.

Dudes and dudettes, I'm going to be doing another one of my meta-gaming giveaways. Tonight at some point, probably between 5-6pm CST, I'm going to make a post and the first 32 peeps to like it will be entered into my Australian Open giveaway. Each entry will be assigned to a specific player in the 2nd round of the tournament.

Whoever's player makes it the farthest will win a $10 Xbox Gift Card and 1 Month of Xbox Game Pass (any accounts can use this; took my account to the confirmation page before I canceled).

The catch is that there are 64 players still in and I'm going to be selecting from the worst of them so you'll be linked to some real underdogs. If two players make it to the same round, I'll use number of games won as a tiebreaker. Stay tuned!

A game being too short is no longer a valid criticism for me, in fact it's often a positive. I'm still in chapter 2 of RDR2. It seems like a nice enough game, but between work, real life and my Netflix queue I can't really be bothered to take a 10 minute horse ride to the next mission. I tend to lean more towards games that can be enjoyed in small chunks... Mutant Year Zero is hitting that spot for me right now.

I actually bought this with GCU at Best Buy for Xbox One, when it was first released. I really enjoyed it, and if you like platformers (which I do), I think you will enjoy it. Be warned, though. If you are an achievement whore like myself, know that there are 2 unobtainable cheevos. I'm hoping it gets fixed with the new DLC just announced.

Completed all three quests and the bonus card did not reappear nor did any extra points get added to my account.

eta: quest points apparently show up under shop and earn as well, found this out by accident.
