Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I'm not sure which generation of Kinect we're talking about, but the absolute best Kinect game was Happy Action Theatre by Double Fine. I think it got renamed at some point. It's a shame that didn't come to Xbox One since that was probably the best showcase for Kinect and also perfect for demonstrating simple Kinect uses for in a family setting (a shame since they were forcing everyone to purchase Kinect and not showing people good reasons why). My kids loved messing with all the stuff and you never had to pick up a controller, pick who was player 1, 2, etc., keep score, etc. It was the digital equivalent of going to a playground.
So much this. My kid LOVED this thing - heck I still fire it up sometimes when my daughter has friends over. Happy Action Theater was the original, but the improved sequel is called Kinect Party - it has a lot of the same minigames as well as additional ones. This was really the first thing I ever saw that showcased the potential of AR (augmented reality). I mean, what kid doesn't want to stomp a city as a movie monster, or have a fire-breathing dragon head, or do a weird photo that clones them several times? It would also fill the room with lava, make birds land all over you, put you in a bathtub, etc.

Not having this game available on the Xbox One Kinect was yet another facet of the XB1 launch disaster.

I played Crackdown 3 from 11pm til around 5am. I think I'm almost done but i played on Easy so maxing out the skills is going to take some time. Terry Crews is gold, He makes the game. The checpoints on the 12 towers took the challenge out of it, I would fall to collect agilty orbs and reset back up higher. The final 12th Tower was skill level 5 unless you climbed the building next to it and just skipped over to the last check point lol.

I would have paid $40 ($32 with GCU lol) for it, by looking at the achievements i think this CAG forum might be 90% of the player base.

Crackdown 3 has the second highest amount of players on True Achievement of the games released this year. Apex legends being the only 2019 release with more players. Obviously TA players are more likely to have gamepass and the year is still young but I thought it was kinda interesting none the less.

If you add in games released last year it would end up around 15th.

Am I suggesting that review sites are "on the take" or trying to gain Sony's favor by inflating review scores? No. However, I do believe that many game review sites are guilty of pandering. They know most of their base is made up of fanboys. These fanboys want to feel good about their purchases and want to feel like they aren't missing out by not having the "other guy's" system. Because of this, reviewers inflate the scores of the dominant system's titles while docking the lesser competitor just a hair. This keeps their core audience coming back, leaving comments, and giving them ad views. From early on, it was clear that the PS4 was going to dominate this cycle due to Microsoft's woeful launch. Thusly, I honestly believe that if Crackdown 3 had been a PS4 title, it would have garnered in the 7.5-8.5 range. It would have been hailed as a "throwback to a the PS3/Xbox 360 era" and touted for its addictive collecting and gunplay, but it would have been docked for its thin story and it would be noted how many titles on the PS4 had much more impressive narratives.

Granted, this is somewhat conspiracy theorist. Yet, at the end of the day, these sites want to make money and they will use every trick to drive traffic.

As I said above, Spiderman would be mentioned for sure, but a 7.5-8.5 isn't out of the question. No one in their right mind thought Crackdown was going to be a 9+ game no matter where it was released. But a lower end "good" rating would have been more likely for the reasons I stated.

Maybe I'm the strange one, but I go into everything I do with an open mind. I don't care if I'm paying nothing or if I'm paying hundreds of dollars. I give everything the same fair chance no matter what I paid. A good example of this is Assassin's Creed Unity. I had taken a break from gaming before it was released so I didn't get around to it until you could get a digital code for the title for under $2. I enjoyed the game thoroughly (I'm crazy about the Assassin's Creed series, but that was a given), but even after all the patches and improvements, I still felt like it was the lesser of all the mainline entries in the series. I didn't lift it above other titles because I bought it at a very steep discount. Crackdown 3 was the same. Had I paid $60 for it, I would be slightly disappointed but I think I would still have fun with it and say it was a solid 7 or 7.5 (on a personal scale).

Lastly, I don't think anyone is claiming that Crackdown 3 is a better title than God of War. However, I do believe it is possible to have more fun with CD3 than GOW. To use an analogy I used before, it is like watching movies. Sometimes you don't want to watch a deep movie that is going to make you think about your place in the world or something of the sort. Instead, you want to watch something like Armageddon. Sure, the movie is ludicrous and cheesy. However, it is fun to watch Bruce Willis lead a team of oil drillers onto an asteroid while people throw out one liners. It is good, mindless fun. Almost no one is going to suggest it is better than a cinematic masterpiece, but it can be more enjoyable at a given moment.
All I have to say is yikes if you genuinely believe outlets play like that

I played a few hours and I can confirm you will spend a ton of your 10 hour trial in loading screens . I’m not really liking it and I’m pissed Mass Effect died for a Destiny clone. Review score - 5 Yikes out of 10 Yikes
The thing they really need to fix is the hyper-aggressive catch up mechanic when someone in the party flies too far ahead. They want you joined at the hip with the other players. You can be so close that you can still SEE them in front of you, and you still get the "You've fallen too far behind" message and a loading screen when the game warps you.

Played Crackdown 3 a bit.   The controls are so bad that it makes the races (foot and vehicle) terrible.  I was near the end of a race and hit something invisible in the middle of the road that made my car comically spaz out.  The shooting mechanics are super simplistic, but not bad.  Collecting hidden objects has become too prevalent in every open world game to be a selling point now.  The framerate on an X feels sluggish.

I enjoyed Crackdown back in the day.  Crackdown 3 does almost nothing to improve upon a 12 year old game.  I can enjoy it since it's "free" on game pass, but paying $40+ would've been tough.

I saw Alita tonight, and I am kind of surprised that everyone here that mentioned seeing it liked it and thought it was good (at least as far as I saw). I don't mind if a movie doesn't wrap everything up at the end, but that cliffhanger was unsatisfying in a Halo 2 kind of way. And I also felt like it could have delved a bit more into the lore of the world and its backstory.

Compare it with something like The Matrix, which also doesn't end with the enemy completely defeated. But at least The Matrix was satisfying. When the movie starts you're in the dark as to what's going on, but the movie nearly fully explains what's going on in its world. The only thing that they don't answer (and don't really need to) is who fired first, man or machine. Smith is also built up quite well as an antagonist, so it's great when Neo explodes him into little bits at the end and the other agents hightail it out of there. You don't really need to watch the sequels to enjoy The Matrix.

Alita doesn't really do any of that. You get a tiny fraction of what must be a huge backstory that you will have to see the sequels to understand, and it just kind of fizzles out at the end without a satisfying conclusion. Lots of it was predictable, and I didn't feel like anything in the final battles of the movie was any threat to her. I walked out feeling like I just watched half a movie.

The only positives I have are that the fights looked cool and it had nice visuals. I also didn't completely hate it or anything, so if it ever becomes a fully fleshed out trilogy I could see myself getting back into it to see the full story. But viewing this as a standalone movie, it felt incomplete and just kind of average. Imagine if instead of the way Infinity War ended, they had the credits roll as soon as Thanos showed up on earth, and you saw his journey cut short right before getting the final stone. That's how Alita felt to me. And at least with Infinity War ending with more story to tell, you KNOW another movie will be on its way. I can't see myself ever buying or rewatching Alita if it doesn't perform well enough to merit one or two sequels to finish the story.
I was unimpressed by the film and have the same criticisms. It felt like Robert Rodriquez was trying to blend Spy Kids and Avatar into one. Though I haven’t read any of the manga, I doubt he followed the storyline or they wanted to fill those plot holes in other films. After seeing all those RR cameos, I was disappointed to not see Danny Trejo.

So how are all of you feeling about the Walking Dead/Tekken 7 crossover? Tekken was never my style of fighting game, but seeing Negan in action seems completely bonkers. Skip to 1:28 if my link doesn't do it for you:

I love the Negan character and JDM, so this inclusion is awesome. The only gripe is that it should've been Mortal Kombat and not Tekken. Would have love to have seen some Negan-centric Fatalities.

I’m torn on Anthem. I mean it’s basically a generic Destiny clone with more loading screens but damn is it gorgeous and it’s a blast just being able to flying around.

I gave this some thought and I know what would have fixed this movie. Spoilers for the actual ending of Alita ahead:

The ending where she has her amazing battle suit is not tense or exciting. At no point do I fear the big sentry robots will take her out. I'm no longer afraid the big claw throwing guy will be able to harm her. She slices him in half with barely any fuss, and then quite easily kills the other guy who would never have been a match for her even without that suit. That battle would have worked better as an easier opening battle for movie #2. Have her finally dispatch claw guy for good to start the sequel, and then you'll have bigger threats still to come later in the movie.

The movie should have been restructured so the battle with the claw throwing guy that took place underground was the final battle of the movie. That battle was actually tense and exciting since she didn't have her better suit yet. Lengthen that battle a bit (since it will now be the big closing battle of the movie), and keep the way it ended where she gets ripped to shreds and punches into the guy's eye socket. The movie will end with her getting her new body. The ending will be the other characters around the operating table worried about Alita, and the closing shot will be a slow zoom in on her face and suddenly her eye opens. Cliché? Maybe, but it's cliché for a reason. It works, unlike the ending where it time skips and she points her sword toward the flying city.

The entire plotline with her actually playing the ball sport for real should have been saved for a potential sequel. Focus on taking out claw throwing guy as a stepping stone toward taking on the big bad, and then you can leave everything after that to the viewer's imagination. Imagining how she's going to kick butt with her suit is better than watching the movie stumble through a bit more plot that wasn't necessary. That would make it a lot more like The Matrix ending. Imagine if instead of seeing him with his full powers and flying off at the end to continue the fight in our imaginations, we got to watch a couple more dumb lame battles where Neo easily kicks the shit out of some standard agents before the credits rolled. Oh, and then Trinity dies at the end. That's basically what Alita did.

Also, have her actually adopt the dog earlier in the movie when she first sees it (rather than have it show up randomly at the end) so its death has more impact. If you're gonna kill a dog at the end, you might as well do it right. (Oh, and don't have her paint under her eyes with dog blood, WTF, movie?) And sprinkle in a few more tidbits of backstory so I feel like I know a bit more about this universe. A hint as to why the war started and what the big bad's motivations were would have been nice. All these changes would have resulted in a more well rounded movie that could function decently as a stand alone if there's never any sequels.

If anyone from Hollywood is reading this, please feel free to contact me so I can tidy up your crappy scripts.
Great rewrite! I might have enjoyed it with your changes.

Couldn’t agree with you more on her connection to the dog, it would have helped seeing her as being more compassionate and loving to have a pet and then lose him tragically. * The warpaint seemed like a pathetic way of showing honor for the loss and then she went all John Wick.

I keep seeing the loading times suck. Going to try the EA Access version either tonight or tomorrow. I feel like I may be torn as well but most of my gaming friends are getting this so I am hoping playing in squads will make this more fun then what it would be solo

The most damning thing I've seen about Anthem is that a little bit into the campaign you're locked off from it until you complete certain milestones ("Kill x opponents with this ability, etc.). I understand that the grind is the nature of the beast, but there is certainly better and more organic ways to encourage players to do that grind. It just makes it sound like the campaign is incredibly short and there's not much end-game content.

I've only played anthem about an hour and a half ish on the EA Acces Trial (have it pre ordered)and it is running far better then the demo weekends I'm really enjoying it. The shooting and abilities feel really good imo and I really love the world they've crafted so far. I have had a few times where I lost connection to the server when I hit the home button to take a screenshot or look at what friends were online. Also anyone else notice when walking through the Fort that there's a ton of NPC's populating it and having conversations with other NPC's but I could hardly hear what they were saying even though they were right next to me?

edit: those loading time ugh

I think it was a pretty lame choice since he just doesn't fit the universe well. Let's take this parody (?) trailer that replaces show characters with Tekken characters at 0:25 in this video.

https://youtu.be/iQUTmNBIr78?t=25s

Outside of maybe Josie, none of these characters would be scared in this situation. All of them are world class fighters at the bare minimum, and three of them have demon based powers. Then we have ultra badasses like Heihachi, Nina Williams, and Master Raven featured.

Granted, Tekken does not take itself seriously most of the time, and some of this trailer is clearly winks and nods combining similar elements from both (Raven = Michonne, Kazumi and her tiger = TWD Shiva). In general I just think it feels more forced and seems more like it's Bamco trying to go for a mainstream pile of money over a big fan request like Kiryu from the Yakuza games. I don't necessarily think a guest needs to make sense from a story and setting perspective, like I LOVE that 2B made it in Soul Calibur and thematically all those horror characters in MK fit pretty well even if the main characters all are ninjas and robots and sorcerers. It's just that Harada clearly knows how to incorporate guest characters well as we've seen from Akuma and Geese.

I think what bothers me the most is he just doesn't look that interesting, which I think comes from the somewhat grounded comics that he comes from. Negan is a big guy that is good at fighting, but most of his character is about using fear to command others. If anyone had to be a fighting game character from the series I would say Michonne would be the best overall choice due to her style, personality, and appearance. She's generally well liked in the show and loved in the comics too. I'm sure Negan will be fine as Tekken is a great fighting game, I'm just not excited about him. I didn't think Noctis was a great fit either but at least teleporting sword guy is more exciting that man with bat.

I'm gonna hold off and install the trial of Anthem on Friday in hopes of a punch card on the Microsoft Rewards app like they did with Battlefield 5 that gave you 6,000 points.

I think the point is what is “outrageous” to you is a legitimate opinion. Just because you don’t believe it doesn’t make it any less of a valid point of view.

What is that so hard to understand?!?
it's hard to understand because Crackdown 3 is being panned by everybody except the biggest Xbox fanboys, while God of War 3 is being praised by everybody and won most of the game of the year awards

what does Crackdown 3 do better? gameplay? story? graphics? character development? sound design?

you said so yourself it's a "controversial opinion" so why post that if you get defensive and don't want to address it?

Rumors are starting to float around that the once canceled game that Nintendo has supposedly has coming is Scalebound. The initial rumor is separate from this, with Game Informer's senior editor just saying Nintendo are working on a game that was very publicly cancelled before. It would probably have to have some major reworks being downgraded from Xbox to Switch, but it'd be cool if it actually came out.

Same boat. What I played, I liked.

My GCU ends tomorrow... $48 and a Steelbook, or wait a few months and get it for probably $30ish and no steelbook. :wall:

and that tweet above.

I own both switch and xbox but this is a huge punch in the gut for xbox owners. I assume they did this because switch has a higher player base in japan
I didn't have any real plans to play the game, but I agree. I'd love to know some of the behind-the-scenes business that caused that to happen.

That doesn’t make it any less of a punch to the gut to Xbox owners. It wasn’t our decision to can it.
Oh no the punch I understand. I just don't see the reason the Switch having a large playerbase in Japan having an impact on it being brought over. Heck it wasn't even what Kamiya wanted to do originally with the game. It was supposed to be about a girl with the power to control dinosaurs with her mind iirc.

I Mean, that idea would've had more legs if they made the protagonist male and called it "Billy and the Clone-a-Saurus"!

Never go full John Wick.

I don't really care if it Scalebound switches platforms if it means it gets to actually release. It is a bummer for people that wanted it or Japanese games in general on Xbox, and it will really make Microsoft look bad if it's even just decent. I could understand all the other cancellations and even studio closures to a degree, but they never gave any real details as to what the problem was with it. Kamiya is a great game designer even if his games aren't always big sellers, and if the needed changes bring it more in line with his original vision that is likely a good change.

On the plus side, we'll still see all the bitching about no PS4 version like Bayonetta 2 and 3 constantly get.

Interesting. I thought it was assumed that Platinum was freed up so start Bayonetta 3 when Scalebound was canceled.

All I have to say is yikes if you genuinely believe outlets play like that
Game review sites are nothing but larger scale blog outlets if you really think about it. Just like bloggers, their goal is to generate traffic and therefore ad revenue anyway they can. This is done through clickbait, misleading titles, etc. The manipulation of scores is another example and does nothing but help the generation of clicks. I don't think ALL sites are like that, but I think more are than you'd care to think.

EDIT: Though, as I said, I'm more than willing to wear the conspiracy theorist tinfoil hat on this one, lol

I say give it a chance then. I have all the same complaints about the original after revisiting it recently, and the controls in CD3 are very responsive. It’s also better balanced in terms of difficulty.
Oh I plan to since it's on Game Pass. If it wasn't, I'd be passing. I don't plan on reactivating my subscription anytime soon though.

We don't really know Platinum's internal structure other than they must have at least 3 teams, but now it seems like it's closer to 5. They only ever really announce the lead developers. Kamiya specifically doesn't like to work on sequels so his team probably wasn't on Bayo 3, though it's possible some moved over. I'm not even sure what the Bayonetta team was working on after 2, but I don't think it was necessarily Scalebound. If anything it seems like they don't have permanent teams, and it's just the lead devs that bounce around and figure out what employees are needed for what projects on a case by case basis.

Here's everything they are currently known to be working on:

  • Astral Chain
  • Bayonetta 3
  • Granblue Fantasy: ReLink (recently finished their work on the project)
  • Babylon's Fall
  • 2 mobile games

And stuff with a good possibility they're working on:

  • Nier 3
  • Scalebound
  • Wonderful 101 port

At this point anyone who likes, follows or uses MS is a degenerate. Clearly, PS4 is the greatest gift to humanity and the same has been proven once more with GoW4.

I am honor bound to report anyone who likes any other game or console or even has an individual opinion that's not the same as above; just like I am honor bound to drag anyone visiting any other place other than Hawaii, back to the Hawaii bound flight.

PS4 is the Hawaii of this universe, accept it or face repercussion.

Ok so I promised I would fire up the Narotu Ninja 4 since I bought the whole bundle pack.

So this game basically reminds me of Dynasty Warriors type control schemes with anime craziness cranked up to 1000. They have normal fighting where you're striking and dodging attacks but also during over the top cinematic attacks they ask you to press buttons at certain times to keep you engaged. There wasn't even a basic tutorial to go over the controls which are actually more complex than Dynasty Warriors I compared it to.

I also liked that if you die in battle that it will allow you to resume the fight with full health while the enemy you are battling keeps whatever their health bar was when you died.

Those are my initial impressions after about 30 mins with the game. Fans of anime / manja or this series in particular would probably really enjoy it. For the casual it's harder to get into but I think they do a fair job telling the story even if it makes little sense to me.
I think that the reason for no tutorial is that it's the 4th game in the series, so they expect everyone to know how to play by now. I was in the same boat as you, jumped into the series at 4 and only learned how to do a substitution justu when it was a challenge for an s rank.

The other nice part about dying is choosing between extra attack bonus or a bonus to...defense (ha ha, yeah right), although I honestly never saw much of a boost, just reworked my strategy to win. The opponent's health staying where it was helps too. These games do a pretty great job of telling the story without all the filler crap, and is a definite recommendation to anyone that's a fan of the show or of 3D anime fighters. Now to see what One Piece's pricing will be later this week.

I’ve got an idea for a video game blog now.... every review score will start out at 8.5, with adjustments of 0.1 for every positive and negative comment about the actual written review. No upper or lower limit on scores, so a game could end up a -89.7 or +237.9.

It would be fun for watching fanboys get in internet fights that “matter”

I'm impressed how quickly half-decent looking mods make it out some times. I wish more companies would get on board with console mods. Hard to say if Bethesda will even bother again themselves.

Anyways, someone made this Dino Crisis stuff for RE2 already. Looking at everything available I think they're stuck using in game models for the most part and can only really import textures.

https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil22019/mods/25?tab=images

I was going to post a picture but I guess CAG doesn't allow Nexus images.

There are also

-a First-Person mod to make the game like RE7

-an invisible enemies mode like REmake (which I imagine is MUCH harder in this game)

-a few other costume mods.

-a UI mod to make it closer to the original game

-a pretty convincing nude mod
