  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

To be fair there was the free version of 5 with all the achievements and I do like their stage design and interactions more than about every other game until Injustice 2. But yeah their DLC model is pretty hardcore.
Their stages usually look pretty cool, but what I and many players don't like is stuff actually in the environment like trees or whatever that can get in the way. It is part of the flavor though. I actually do prefer the stage transitions in DOA compared to how Injustice handles them, and I hate the meter wager mechanic in Injustice as well. I do like the way combat actually functions a bit more than Tekken since it isn't nearly as complicated, but the lower amount of depth hurts it overall. I think they might do better if they leaned into the goofiness OR the serious side the series more, but the money is clearly in the sexy DLC.

Itagaki was a jerk and seemingly a scumback, but I don't feel like the series added blatantly pandering characters like Marie Rose or Honoka when he was in charge, even if the volleyball series started under his watch. It's kind of weird distinction to make, but there was a shift in focus with 5. I don't really have a problem with these new characters, but the fact that they so quickly shifted focus to them over long time series veterans in recent years just seemed off to me.

That's what I meant.
yup sorry mistyped. I did the “daily set” and lost my streak for some reason.
Depending on where you live, there could be a discrepancy between the daily set reset and the search counter reset. I'm in the Eastern time zone and my daily set resets at midnight, but the daily search counters don't reset until later, like around 3am (I don't think it's exactly at 3, though I could be wrong). I'm pretty sure I've had streaks broken because I did the daily set during that midnight to 3am window and they weren't counted for some reason. So I just wait to do them later in the day after the search counters have reset.

Maybe you missed a daily set by doing things in that window between the daily set and search counter reset, e.g., doing Friday's daily set and Thursday's searches.

As much as I enjoyed the private and open beta for the division 2 I cancelled my GCU preorder. $50 with a $10 cert isn't worth it when it will be 50%+ off around July. I don't like it enough to pay a premium to get it at release. Think I'll just preorder some first party nintendo games with the last couple months of GCU I have since those are the least likely to go on sale/get a price cut.

Anyone play any toejam and earl? Got some xbox money from bing to spend.

I used to have trouble with the streaks not working. The most I could get was 2 days even when doing everything correctly for weeks straight. I made it a point to do things in the early afternoon and do them every day. Even set a reminder on my phone. I would get to 2 days, then the next day would say 1. Then I stopped messing with the rewards for a bit, since I already loaded up on XBL for awhile. But, now things seem to be working fine for me and my streak is at 2 weeks.

I feel like no one ever says the opposite of this. Does anyone play a beta anymore and actually rush out to preorder? I feel like betas are there to convince everyone to cancel their preorder. It seems like publishers figured this out during the 360/PS3 era and stopped doing demos but now it seems like they're shooting themselves in the foot. Don't get me wrong, it's good for us consumers, I guess, so I'm not really complaining.

Looks like Koei Tecmo is coming out swinging with Dead or Alive 6 DLC. The first season pass that includes TWO characters and SIXTY TWO costumes is $93. This only lasts 4 months, and on Steam it even has this little gem "Downloadable content not included in the list above may be released during the same period, but it will not be covered by this Season Pass 1." Finally, they couldn't even throw in the pre-order character Nyotengu, she is still $4 separately.

Really if they're going to milk the hardcore waifu guys this badly and blatantly they shouldn't even bother with making costume heavy season passes. It just looks even worse to a lot of people that already have a lot of ammunition for trashing the series, and they don't seem to have a season pass that is just the actual additional characters.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/dead-or-alive-6-season-pass-1/c0mn5tts0515

Edit: Looking a bit further into this. The season pass also doesn't include the (much better in my opinion) Deluxe Costume Set, which you can only get from the $80 Deluxe Version of the game. There are another 25 costumes in that one, as well as currently exclusive character "Phase 4".
Yeah there's no reason to buy those season passes.

DOA5LR game for $40 includes 30 fighters which cost $150, the story mode is $15. I think you get a few sound packs as well.

Street Fighter V is pretty bad as well costumes run $4 a piece. $20 for more stages as well. New Fighter Kage was $6 with a costume and 2 colors?

Fight Money is a joke as they took the best ways to earn it away.

KOF has fighters for $6 or 2 packs of 4 fighters for $20 each.

Smash Bros 4 double dipped on 3ds/wii u

No matter what Fighting Game you pick you're looking at a lot of DLC for a variety of things.

I feel like that would be exceptionally rare - Not because the beta is bad, necessarily, but because it's increasingly done as a pre-order incentive. Like, I wouldn't have rushed out to preorder a second copy on top of the one I did to get in the beta, you know?

For games like The Division, though, I'm sure the beta is useful in gauging the load on servers to prevent day one crashes (like Blizzard has had over and over) on top of the normal bug reports - Less about getting people hyped for the game they know will sell, more about making sure it's not a total shitshow. Heck, I think every beta I've ever participated in was "online component only".

Not if I just keep playing Guilty Gear Xrd! That'll show 'em!

...Tbh the mess of DLC for fighting games actually drove me away from buying any newer ones, even though I love the genre. I'm not about to pay $60 for a game, and then another $100+ to make sure I have all of the playable characters.

I feel like no one ever says the opposite of this.
Yeah, I can't remember the last time I tried a beta and it made me decide to pick up a game. I'd say 90% of the time I play a beta it's a game I know I'll be getting eventually and it's just to get exclusive cosmetics or something. The beta wasn't so much what caused me to cancel my preorder as the fact that assassins creed gold is $33 after coming out 4 months ago so I can expect the division to be similar. Plus there's one or two backlog games I want to play more than the division.

Perhaps, but it took a long time for The Division to get a good sale on the game plus season pass.  Season pass sales by themselves still aren't that good on it.

That said, isn't the season pass for The Division 2 just early access for content that everyone gets a week late anyway?

According to a developer interview I read recently, there will be a stripped down “free” version of DOA6, similar to the one released for 5. The release was said to be “many months” after launch, but why this would be announced before release is mind-boggling.

Anthem. I scoffed at the shitty promotion but bought the game due to the demos. Other than that I can't remember the last time I bought something after a beta/demo.

Haven’t played The Division 2 beta but wasn’t all that into the first game. Is this one that much better? And do you need to have played through the first game to understand the new one?

Yeah, looks like their multiplayer focused games moving forward aren't going to have season passes that separate player base. They get early access plus some other bonuses. I'm hoping it doesn't take a long time for a price reduction but even if I wait until the end of the year sale I won't mind.

I only played the beta for the first one but get the general idea of the plot. This takes place after the first one but from what I played in the beta I wasn't lost story wise.

I’ve enjoyed the beta so far. Only played a little of the first one but to me the Beta feels a little smoother than the first one.
Curious for anyone who played a lot of the first one to compare the 2.

The Wildlands trial just sold me on that game. I just need to figure which edition I want to get. I know I want to see the dumb splinter cell stuff so I'm betting I end up grabbing the ultimate edition or whatever its called.

Another question. Does the physical version of DOA 5 actually get you anything? Or is the free core fighters the same thing now?

The disc gets you all the base characters, modes, and story content that was available when the game was ported to the current gen. There were a few DLC characters that were added after that launch, and roughly a gorillion dollars worth sexy, crossover, and sexy crossover costumes as well.

I’m guessing the story content isn’t in the core fighters download? Just wondering. Not getting DOA 6 but used to like those games as far as the interactive arenas and stuff. Haven’t played since DOA 4 though. Know the 5 disc can be had pretty cheap.

Core Fighters from what I remember is a partial vs mode with no story mode included. The physical is the real thing minus a few dlc characters.

I don't remember what the breakdown was in 5. I know you could buy the story mode by itself right here. I believe this let you play all the characters in the story mode but not in multiplayer. I believe if you bought a character individually you could only use them in Arcade or Survival or something. I only ever bought the initial Dead or Alive 5 360 version near launch and only dabbled with the occasional free characters on the Xbox One Last Round/Core Fighters version.

Looking at the mess of unlocks that make up the full game it seems like they will follow the same overall format with 6. Story mode is one of the inclusions with no individual price for now.

It’s so damn good. I stopped playing cause I didn’t want to spoil it. Just noticed you get an game outfit if you finish the beta so going back. Lol

This is my top game atm. Already pre-ordered the gold edition, 11 days till all I do is division 2.

Speaking of... since I used Gamestop credit on the game, when does GS get you the code? My account shows I paid in full, also shows 0 days till release and that I have not picked it up yet... do I have to go back to the store to get my code now? Figured it would be on my pre-order page in my account.
I do have to go in and get my $10 bonus that they didn’t put on anyway..

This is the first time I’ve stopped playing a beta because I didn’t want to spoil the full game. I love the addition of settlements and how you do missions to improve your bases.

As much as I wanted to like the first one I never really got into the game, but my gaming time is just a little here and there as well. It's best in a group of friends which I can never consistently do. I probably have played a third of the main game of Division 1. The beta just feels better in controls and overall feel. Some other changes to world building seemed like perfect evolutions from the first game. Makes me consider getting it when it was originally a pass. You can jump into the second one without playing the first. There may be mentions of and spoilers for the first, but it's not a direct continuation of the story from the first. DC was similarly affected like NY was, but it's new characters and story. And from what I gather it's more one player friendly.

Thanks for the heads up. Might have to download the beta. Wish it wasn’t such a big ass download.

Leak round up:

Upcoming Apex Legends character. The name was also in a datamine. Supposedly from the artists roommate:

Full Mortal Kombat 11 roster leak. This one supposedly came from a tester. It lines up with one of the text leaks from a little while back.

I had a ton of fun with Wildlands. Unfortunately ubisoft did what they've been doing and delisted the gold version that's just the game and season pass. The Ultimate edition is most likely the way to go if the pvp looks interesting to you. Buying the base game and season pass individually is only $7 cheaper than the ultimate edition. As far as ubisoft DLC goes the wildlands stuff wasn't amazing but was still fun with enough small changes/additions to not make it feel like just 20+ hours of the same exact content. Basically one DLC of vehicle based missions and one DLC with new enemy and mission types and new branch of skills.

On Apex, Octane the Adrenaline junkie. If it’s not a legit leak, someone did a good job making it up. Skills seem legit, with ability to go into adrenaline mode but lose health, and then a passive to regain some of it.

I don’t understand how people work on that at home around a roommate without thinking it might get leaked. When I have to work on confidential things, it’s in secure areas with other individuals under NDAs, you can’t open that stuff at home.

All this talk about fighting games has me wondering what the hierarchy of X1 fighters is these days? I haven’t played any fighters with any regularity since SF IV on the 360. I think other than that, I only have Tellem Tag 2 and seasons 1 and 2 of Killer Instinct, all of which were giveaways.

I’m an old man who misses killing time playing Soul Caliber with friends, which probably explains why I haven’t played anything in so long.

I feel like the original division didn’t drop so quickly.

I feel like division 2 beta is getting a preorder out of me. The cover mechanics and gunfights seem tactical and tight. Really enjoying it.

I've been loving Injustice 2, although to be fair, I've just been doing multiverse missions with A.I. loadouts cause I'm a sucker for loot, especially cosmetic loot. Plus, I thought the story was great.

Been meaning to boot up MK X before the Rewards punchcard expires, but I know it'll be relatively similar. Outside of those, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a great choice.

So after some back and forth with rewards support I got credited the 700 points I was missing from the achievement hunter and try something new cards. Just a tip for anyone else going this route, don't make an imgur album with your screenshots as they apparently can't click the link to view them. You have to attach or embed the jpegs or pngs in an email to them.

Been playing Wildlands since day 1, they just recently added a horde mode. Wildlands and Dead By Daylight are my gotos on the Xbox at the moment

I don't know, pretty much all of the the fighting game scene is on PS4, so we miss out on a lot of the more niche games in the genre. I honestly think MS choosing not to give Capcom any funding on that was huge mistake since SF is so influential on the genre, even if it didn't end up being super well liked afterwards.

Personally I only really play Soul Calibur VI regularly, with occasional visits to Tekken 7 and Injustice 2. These are all well populated enough.

This turned into a research rabbit hole using Steam charts... Many lists below:

For overall player counts I would guess we can roughly follow the order they are on Steam. I think Xbox player count should be higher, but it is a somewhat niche genre so it's hard to know. The most hardcore are likely to play on PS4 most of the time as that is what is used for tournaments. Included below are all of the most recent entries in every living series, every noteworthy fighter playable fighter on Xbox, every big release from the last year or two, and all EVO mainstage games except for Smash Bros and Samurai Shodown for obvious reason.

Average player count over past 30 days - Game title (my thoughts)

Notable fighting games available on Xbox One:

2,291.5 - Tekken 7

1,575.0 - Dragonball FighterZ

1,144.1 - Mortal Kombat X (This one has to be boosted from dirt cheap sales and hype for 11)

467.9 - Soul Calibur VI

267.4 - Injustice 2

154.3 - Ultra Street Fighter IV

116.1 - Skullgirls (probably lower since we never got the improved version)

73.0 - Dead or Alive 5: Last Round

33.8 -Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

30.0 - Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

29.5 - Killer Instinct (probably higher on Xbox, but it's pretty old now.)

15.3 - BlazBlue: Chronophantasma Extend

12.2 - Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite (presumably higher on console, this is at 10 players on PC now)

For fun, here are the anime arena fighters also available on Xbox One:

2,289.4 - Jump Force

1,242.7 - Dragonball Xenoverse 2

497.7 - NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4

147.8 - NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER

31.3 - One Piece: Burning Blood

Unknown, not on Steam - My Hero: One's Justice

PS4 console exclusives. I think most of these should kind of prove that these devs would be better served with Xbox ports than PC, or even no ports at all:

1,268.2 - Street Fighter V

86.3 - THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV (XIII is actually higher)

85.9 - UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[st]

65.2 - BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle (also on Switch)

13.9 - SNK HEROINES Tag Team Frenzy (also on Switch)

2.2 - FIGHTING EX LAYER

Finally, the EVO 2019 games. EVO put out what had the most registered entrants so far, so this is that order. Pretty big grain of salt need as registration was only up for 24 hours when posted. The number after is still the Steam average where applicable:

  1. Super Smash Bros Ultimate
  2. Tekken 7 - 2,291.5
  3. Street Fighter V - 1,268.2
  4. Mortal Kombat 11
  5. Soul Calibur VI - 467.9
  6. UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[st] - 85.9
  7. Samurai Shodown
  8. Dragonball FighterZ - 1,575.0
  9. BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle - 65.2

Got my new SSD today, put it in the enclosure I have (micro b connector) and it worked poorly. Question is my only cable has a y-plug ad I used it on wiiu and needed 2 USB ports for power. Unplugging my Kinect and using both rear ports it works fine. If I get a quality cable can I get by with one port or do I need a new enclosure?

I actually prefer fighting games on the Xbox One for several reasons. Backward compatibility helps. There were a lot of great fighters on the 360, and some of these can be played on the One... perhaps someday Darkstalkers Resurrection will be one of them. I also have a Mayflash adapter that's compatible with the Xbox One, but only offers limited compatibility with the PS4. If the game in question doesn't have AUX support, the adapter won't work.

Finally, those PS4 exclusives were kind of disappointing. KOF14 is fine but feels a little light on single player features, while Street Fighter V is, er, Street Fighter V. It's a game so ruthless in its pursuit of money that it introduced advertising at one point, to further pad Capcom's wallet. Fighting EX Layer is a game I like more in theory than in practice... it too is light on content, and the EX characters have been altered in unexpected, and often annoying, ways. I miss the Street Fighter EX series but FEXL falls short of capturing what was great about them.

Ok, so ... I couldn't resist AC Odyssey, but I used online chat and had Best Buy match it (used reward certs) since Amazon matched XBL's $33 price point.

So, if anyone has BB credit to burn, there you go.

Caved on Odessey Gold also. Oddly I was finally getting into Origins the lady 10 days or so. Enjoying it mostly but I don’t really like the main character in Origins. I hear the main characters in Odessey as well as deeper progression are the biggest 2 improvement so it hopefully will be a blast.
I’ll probably still go a little deeper in Origins because if I quit I will never go back but it’s tempting just to move along.

The world characters are more fleshed out in Odyssey than most in Origins. There were some touching quests in Origins but Odyssey has more. I don’t think the main characters are that much better in Odyssey except for Kassandra. Overall I enjoyed Origins more than Odyssey but I’m a huge Egyptian history buff.
