Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I had a feeling it was delayed given we had no date until now. Redub is probably taking longer than anticipated.

Is it confirmed they're using 0 of the old VAs? It was mostly speculation last I checked since the old VAs have mostly kept quiet since talking to Netflix about getting recast (suggesting NDAs).

Either way, hopefully the company doing the new dub (VSI Group since ADV refuses to play nice with the old dub afaik) doesn't suck.
https://twitter.com/amandawinnlee/status/1109279696347291648

She seems to have kind gone a bit crazy lately but she was the voice director for the original dub, and played Rei. I don't think she's done ADR work in a long time, and they already replaced her as Rei for Rebuild, so I'm not surpised she is out. I don't think she would liee about the other's being involved though, and Spike Spencer still has a tweet saying he'd like to reprise Shinji pinned on his Twitter. Tiffany Grant doesn't have Twitter and Misato's VA barely uses hers.

I don't think it's directly ADV's fault at this point. They died 10 years ago, it looks like their rights transferred to Section23 or Sentai Filmworks and expired around 2011. Pretty much every company involved with the original dub has had massive shifts in the past 20 years. Hell, even Gainax transferred the rights over to Studio Khara. It's probably more like it's in a weird limbo like we see with other older media.

Been playing Ashen. My god does the game crap all over Dark Souls. Such a better experience.

Call me old fashioned, but I'm not interested in Stadia unless there's an offline feature.  I should not have to worry whether or not I will lose my internet connection while playing.

This.
And I can always take my console camping etc. or on a long trip where I’m not driving, or am flying. (Mainly talking about my switch)

And only interested in the BR less Xbox as a 2nd system.. would never have the main xbox be without a BR drive. Rentals and 4k movies will always be purchased. And no digital 4k is NOT the same, lesser quality than the disc every time.

Black people who work at Microsoft did.
I mean I am fine with the group but why not Black People at Xbox? Blacks at Xbox sounds like something someone's grandpa would say when talking about the "blacks". They even use terms like "Our Blacks". It just comes off as tone def phasing.

I've been hearing a lot of people rank Ashen higher than most of the Souls series lately. I played it when it first came to GP and wasn't impressed. The drop-in co-op is a pain in the ass because you lose your npc companion and have to wait for some scrub to figure out where you are. I didn't think there was much weapon or build variety (no magic), which is one of the biggest selling points for me with Souls.

What do you think Ashen does better?

You are using it out of context like everyone that commented on the twitter post. The full post said "our Blacks at Xbox community" which indicates that the group is called Blacks at Xbox and they are referring to "our (named) community" with the community name being "Blacks at Xbox", you are choosing to capitalize Our and leave out the rest to make it seem like more of a radical statement then it really was.

I knew she wasn't in it, but like you said, she was nixed for Rebuilds, so I thought the others still had a chance. I hadn't seen that tweet (tbf she only tweeted that yesterday), but I don't doubt her credibility. That sucks.
I can only hope the redub is worth it. The amount of time they're spending on it at least suggests they might be trying to do a good job.

Re: ADV. Completely forgot they were defunct. Why Funi didn't buy up what they could is beyond me.

2013 - XBox One presentation - You need an internet connection daily to check your license even if the game is installed on your hard drive. Public outrage, people shitting on Microsoft, "You don't own your own games!" "Microsoft wants to spy on me with kinect!" "Going to Sony cause I can have and share my games for free! Screw you Microsoft!" :bomb:

2019 - Google Stadia presentation - You MUST have a good internet connection to play, you don't own shit but a crappy wifi controller, you are limited to your internet speed, whatever device you own and of course your ISP data cap. Google knows what you are playing, when you are playing, who you are playing with and getting all your browser info for their ads they will throw at you before playing and maybe even every time you die or reload. "We love you Google!" "You are the future" "F all the greedy companies that want me to buy their old style consoles and physical games!" :dunce:

This is true, but the phrasing is pretty outdated. Using a word like black as a noun instead of an adjective is generally discouraged these days and often considered ignorant at best, pejorative at worst. Obviously the this group of employees has every right to self-ID however they wish in relation to a shared demographic, but it doesn't make for a good headline.

If we keep with the use of a noun, the singular would be "he is a black" which doesn't sound good at all, just like we wouldn't say "he is a gay." So it's just weird.

So to summarize...

I deeply hate Dark Souls, so even trying Ashen was a big reach. However, I've admittedly only spent about 2 hours total playing the Dark Souls series to know I never want to play it.

First off, Ashen is BEAUTIFUL. It has a world that is 1000x better than Souls' run down, gloomy, colorless world. Ashen's actually has an environment and a wonderful color palette.

Second, Ashen is open world. Probably my main hate with Dark Souls is that it's not fun at all running through thin hallways with enemies at every corner, going up and down ladders constantly, and just doing other BS like that the whole game. Ashen actually has a world to play in.

Third, it's just more enjoyable in every way. From the combat that isn't annoyingly difficult, to the main map that helps significantly so you dont have to wander around for 10 minutes just to find even the direction you should be going in, to the story and the characters and the overall tone, its just so, so, so much better than Dark Souls, and it's a shame how few people have apparently played it.

In America. Worldwide "black" is used pretty commonly, although it of course applies to different communities (often mixed race people aren't referred to as black, tho they would be in America). I also prefer to use black as "African American" assumes nationality and ethnicity, and I made friends in college with people who were non-citizens that self identified as black.

I see what you're saying about noun v adjective, and I'm not sure that even applies in the US. News outlets often still refer to blacks and whites rather than white voters, black communities, Hispanic people, etc.

God damn, everyone and their mama is streaming Sekiro. It looks so damned cool! I just can't justify $60 for a solo experience with limited (if any) replay value.

RE: Ashen
Better color palette? What I played of Ashen was all muted browns or pitch black pits. DS1 has lakes of fire, purple toxic swamps, bright sunny vistas, frozen mountains, etc.

If you break it down, most games are just a series of interconnected linear paths. Ashen has bridges to cross water, new areas are separated by a single mountain pass (ie, hallway), the two dungeons I went through were entirely linear... DS 1-3 are mostly linear as well, but I think you could find plenty opportunities to approach encounters from multiple directions/playstyles.

How else would you suggest a game have vertical level designs without ladders and elevators? Grappling hook? Flying mount/wings? Since the tone of DS is about being a tiny human taking on the gods, I think the mundane traversal of ladders adds to the sense of isolation and being out of your league.

Some people like what Dark Souls offers while I think its bottom tier stuff. You seem of the mindset that Dark Souls Good and Ashen bad, and it doesnt seem like you're gonna change your mind.

Looks like the Spring Sale will be starting around April 11th.
Interesting. I could've sworn I saw on here or on Twitter itd be starting the last week of March. Saw a post that also said thats when every other spring sale started, but I could be wrong.

You are using it out of context like everyone that commented on the twitter post. I don't think any of this is radical. Thinking the term "blacks" is tone def is not a radical concept. It's fine though. I have can have my opinion and you can have yours. In the end if the people who are part of that group are cool with the name then I am not here to say they cannot use it.

I am not sure what to make of Hellblade yet. The pace is a little slow for me. Combat is tricky for sure but not outrageous so far. I may complete it but I am not sure.

I’m in the same boat. I found the story and lore to be very compelling, and it looks and sounds great (especially with headphones!) but the gameplay itself I just don’t really enjoy.

Nearly 90 items from different devs / publishers have popped up with 18 day countdowns. I think the Spring Sale is tied to Easter, which falls late this year (April 21 vs April 1 last year). Easter was during the 2017 and 2018 Spring Sales.

sekiro is so fuck hard i just keep dying and dying to where its not fun to play anymore
It is hard but if you keep at it you start to get the rhythm of the combat. Don’t get me wrong I still suck and die a LOT. But each time I do get a bit further. I mean I still haven’t gotten past a single boss yet but I have finally gotten a prosthetic that may help me get past it. TBD.

I am having a blast with it though.

Ah well that would definitely make sense. Thank you for clarifying

I don't get what's wrong with id'ing one's skin color by the name of the color? If you're white I'll describe you as white, if you're black then I'll describe you black, and if you're green then I'll ask if your sick and then describe you as green. Just as if someone asked me if that person is gay then I would say yes, they're gay. How else would you id someone if asked for a description?

I don't know about Sekiro but From Software's games usually have pretty in-depth new game plus modes with new and hidden content to find.

I don't feel qualified to talk about the "Blacks at Xbox" thing. It does seem off to me but I imagine the group voluntarily chose that name. It seems like the name is bothering a good chunk of people when looking around at the responses, even though they like the actual idea of the group or whatever it is.

Man, Hellblade is one of the top games of this gen for me. The combat is a bit wonky and takes getting used to, but the lore, story, and sound design are so engrossing and immersive.

I played it for 30 and said not for me.
I really wanted to like it but nope.

Question for anyone who knows. Currently have xbox one in living room and bedroom. Want to get a third for daughter's room mostly for a blu ray player and HD homerun box. Can I have my profile on all 3 xbox ones? My reasoning would be to download all the Xbox one and 360 kid games I have associated with my profile to her xbox.

Nope 2 max

Noun vs verb is the only "issue" here. The real atrocity is that damn controller. Yuck. And the near blaxploitation level characters drawn on the page.

You can only have one system as your home and any profiles on that system can play your games and access xbl gold through your sub. Every other xbox one will need you to sign in as your profile to access your content, but you kid could sign in as you and themselves to play games on their own profile. Obviously, you can only be signed in on one xbox one at a time.

I could invert that and say the same for you. I've put thousands of hours into the Souls series so you certainly have an uphill battle to convince me that an indie game that sports blank faces, no fashion, is practically impossible to play with friends, has no pvp, and doesn't have the weapon/playstyle variety is the "better" game. I certainly didn't find the reasons you provided convincing, if anything it suggested the 2hrs you spent on DS wasn't enough to see different environments or try alternative playstyles.

I also have to wonder what ladders you're complaining about in the first two hours of any of the games. If you know where to go, I suppose you could go straight into the ladder mazes of Blighttown or The Gutter, but no one would go there first accidentally.

You could have your account itself on multiple consoles like this and just sign in when you want to use it on each one, but it sounds like you mean game sharing, which is limited to two consoles. Unfortunately there is not a good solution that I'm aware of. One of my gaming friend has three consoles for him and his two kids, and he either has to buy two copies of games or let one of them play on his for the kids to play together. I think physical games are the best option for your situation, but that doesn't do you much good for your current library.

I usually have no interest in Souls games (yet somehow I own Dark Souls 1-3), but I gotta admit I'm interested in getting Sekiro based on the setting and gameplay. So I guess it's on the wait until $10 list for me!

I would absolutely be playing Sekiro right now if I wasn't knee deep in The Division 2.

I'd def be in for a digital only X1 for the 2nd room here. Would be perfect for using gamepass when the wife is asleep in the bedroom

Saw Shazam tonight. Didn't have high hopes so I wasn't let down. Was funny when Djimon Hounsou appeared on screen after seeing him in Marvel's captain marvel at the beginning of the month. Had a few humorous moments that I laughed at.

Still enjoying division 2. Hopefully ubisoft sticks to their pattern and I can upgrade to digital for 50% off around summertime.

April 11?

Also, there will be punch and pie to celebrate the posting of said countdown items...

Guess since the spring sale isn't till next month and usually the 2 weeks before one are crap(usually a bunch of indie stuff), I'll just grab some of the Tomb Raider DLC to tie me over for now.  Weird that Underworld's Lara's Shadow DLC is on sale, but the other one(Beneath the Ashes) isn't.  Looking back, that one hasn't gone on sale in at least 4 years.

As someone with mental illnesses, including those pesky voices, I wanted very badly to dive into Hellblade. I bought it last summer during a real bad point in life but couldn't play it right away. The atmosphere is wicked, the way the voices come at you, especially with headphones, is creepy and close to home but I couldn't get into the actual gameplay. Too slow for me in ways that didn't make sense. One day, especially now that I bought the Atmos upgrade but for now it's on to other games

Kinda crazy how easy it is to level through the tiers in TCtD2 if you have a high level friend dropping loot for you. I'm sitting at 438GS and still have the stronghold in T2 to complete.

Those of you that have ACA Neo-Geo games: Do they show up alphabetically in the Xbox library under A (for ACA) or under the actual name of the game?

I may stick with 360 versions if it's the former since that crap bugs me. I can't stand all my games listed under the letter T because the game title starts with "The" or having one Splinter Cell game under S and another under T for Tom Clancy.  Same with all the Elder Scrolls games. Kind of wish Microsoft would let us re-label games but I also see where that could be abused. Maybe let us select from a couple pre-approved titles? And for the love of god, make the Xbox library ignore "The" when alphabetizing games.
