Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

Speaking of podcasts... anyone have any funny ones to listen to? I commute roughly 3-4 hours daily, and it helps to get through
Timesuck - Funny and have honestly learned a lot about stuff I wouldn't have ever thought I'd be interested in. Hosted by Dan Cummins. HAIL NIMROD!

Middle of Somewhere - Fairly new so you'll catch up pretty fast. It's with comedians Chad Daniels and Cy Amundson.

I used to listen to probably too many every week but I had to trim it down since due to a busier schedule. I mostly just get through podcasts while driving right now, though sometimes while grinding Fortnite stuff or cooking.

Weekly (or whenever episode is up) regulars:

  • Easy Allies Podcast (and some of their secondary ones)
  • Castle Super Beast (this was the Super Best Friend Cast until they split up)
  • Frame Trap
  • MagSplicer Podcast (fighting games and the FGC, episodes currently rare)
In rotation when I have more time to fill:

  • Let's Fight a Boss
  • Completely Unnecessary Podcast (the only retro news podcast I check out, mostly through Youtube clips)
  • NoClip Podcast (episodes rare)
Currently dropped but can generally recommend:

  • Dad and Sons (the main host really started to grate on me but his co-hosts are good)
  • Coffee with Clemps (really depends on his guest)
  • Friend Code or GameXplain Real Talk (Nintendo podcasts)
Hard dropped due to too many shit takes or annoying panelists:

  • all Rooster Teeth podcasts
  • all IGN podcasts

Nothing big but a strange little tidbit, the Xbox App on Windows 10 PC updated and is now called the "Xbox Console Companion" and got a new icon of instead of the "X" symbol looks like a physical xbox. Don't see anything else different functionality wise, probably something to do with E3.

New quest is up called rewards weekly set.

Check out this weeks featured movie +10 points

Launch the rewards app three different days +40 points

Complete 50 bing searches +50 points

It also has 100/250/500 point bonuses on the 2nd/4th/7th week for completing the set.

I never did thanks for the reminder, I know some others that didn't also, and I know some that got it within a few days. Guess I got to reach out to MS support, fun.
Can you even chat or email easily anymore? Had to do a refund and even that was a mess and had to search where to send stuff (seems like was going through a re-haul at the time as the next one I did was easier)...every time I click on chat it just wants to send me to the forums (which I'm an ambassador anyway) and there's never an email. Do you HAVE to call now to get actual support and not just some gamers/ambassadors?

After seeing the new Watch Dogs leak, I have to give credit to Microsoft here. They’ve managed to avoid leaks so far.

(Although, I don’t know if that’s good or bad).

Last time I did it was through chat, and that would of been for the pricing error on Darksiders 3.... so last summerish? Man I hope there is just chat definitely don't want to be on the phone.

Chat has always been great for me. They allowed me to refund Friday the 13th after dlc was being stopped and assassins creed odyssey so I could buy it when the new spend such and such get points when it was on sale. They also fixed the warranty back to a year on a xbox one x I bought from antonline. They warranty was up in November and it was supposed to expire may of 2020.

I doubt they'd fully remove chat as a support option.  From a purely business standpoint, it's more efficient to have a support rep juggling multiple chat conversations than to have them on the phone dedicated to helping 1 person at a time.

Still not sure if I need another mini/classic console, but the Sega Genesis Mini (first party with everything developed by M2) has a pretty amazing lineup. Megaman: Wily Wars was a pretty big deal, but today they announced the Megadrive version of Tetris is being included, too. This game was never commercially released because Nintendo secured the rights to all console versions.

PSN is definitely dominating the Gold games this month
Sonic and Borderlands are great, but those are games I'd buy anyway. I like when GWG are games I want and end up enjoying, but not enough to spend $10-20 on them.

What if I only want the Moon? For, uh, reasons...

Thanks. I finally tried Minecraft tonight after I got home from work. I just walked around a lot and avoided random animals that were just running around. I don't understand how this became one of the greatest video games of all time. I really don't.
Minecraft took some time to click for me. There's an enormous amount of depth to the game that's not readily apparent when you first start playing, since there's nothing obvious to do. Also, once you've become immersed in the world, you sometimes find some really cool things just exploring. It's hard to explain, but I've definitely played it enough to understand the appeal now.

Anyone remember when the last days to receive the 1000 apex coins from that promo a while back? Never received them

This game was never commercially released because Nintendo secured the rights to all console versions.
I Want to get it, but no six button controller packed for games like Eternal Champions hurts my head. Maybe at $50, but then again also a strong chance this console will just sit in it's box for me. Who knows!

+1 to The Dick Show. -1 to Harmontown.
After seeing the new Watch Dogs leak, I have to give credit to Microsoft here. They’ve managed to avoid leaks so far.

(Although, I don’t know if that’s good or bad).
There was recently a big leak with the new Fable, but yeah, not much else.
Tbf, I think the interest in leaking MS stuff is lower than Sony and Nintendo stuff. But Sony and Nintendo get more bs leaks by comparison.

  • D&D podcasts like "The Adventure Zone" (from the MBMBaM brothers) or "Nerd Poker" or infinite other ones.
  • Fiction series like "Welcome to Night Vale", "Tanis", "The Habitat", "Homecoming", "Wolf-359", "Sandra", and many others ... they keep you looking forward to the next commute.
I'd second support for stuff like Night Vale. That's been a good one.

Regarding Adventure Zone... it is overall very good, but the first arc or so was a bit rough. Thankfully, I had a bunch of friends telling me to power through and then it would get better.... and it sure as heck did.

I'm also a fan of the Acquisitions Incorporated: The "C" Team show. They do it as a Twitch show weekly, then the podcast comes out a few days later. A very entertaining show with a lot of great moments, and a winding plot that keeps you wanting to know what'll happen next.

That was so fucking boring. Slash slash slash, slash slash slash, repeat repeat repeat. These castlevania clones are obviously not for me.
Well ya, you forgot to dodge. You're never gonna survive unless you GIT GUD. Rememeber the 5 D's of Soulslikes*: Dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge.

*Apparently these are also the rules to Dodgeball. Crazy world.

On the podcast note  RebelFM is still my favorite weekly show for games.  Theres alot of PC and xbox talk on it.  Retonauts can be fun sometimes depending on how interested in the talk you are.  The Comedy Button can be pretty funny.  E&Cs pod of awesomeness is a great wrestling podcast for those who enjoy that kind of thing.

AKA The I heard a story from this one guy and now I'm going to tell it very badly podcast.
A lot of people my wife works with love My Favorite Murder. I listened to two episodes (I thought maybe the first one was just a bad pick) and couldn’t stand the presenters. It tries to be a comedy show and a crime show, but you can find better examples of both.

If you haven’t listened to it, I recommend the Heaven’s Gate podcast. It’s a 10-episode miniseries hosted by Glynn Washington (you’ll recognize him if you’ve heard NPR’s Snap Judgment) and it’s very interesting. You know, if you find cults interesting.

Just the presentation of the whole show is just...I don't know who it's for. The story telling, format and lack of research makes every episode sound either the same or worse when they recall an episode of a true crime show they watched awhile ago and try to recall the details of it and the story itself turns into the host trying to do a memory exercise aloud for a podcast. It's one of those "how is this popular??" kinda podcasts.

Best podcast rn imo is WE HATE MOVIES, that shit is funny as all get out! My days of listening to gaming podcasts are officially over unfortunately. They're just not what they used to be.

Thanks to everyone who recommended podcasts. This is one of those things I've been meaning to check out and I'm happy to have a long list of options.

I use to listen to Retronauts, but then there was one episode where they called Akira Toriyama "a hack" and I dropped them immediately.

Do all of these podcasts have the hosts announcing sponsors?  I was listening to "Talk is Jericho" where Chris interviewed Jon Moxley/Dean Ambrose and all of a sudden he started talking about kitty litter. It was so random.

Speaking of podcasts... anyone have any funny ones to listen to? I commute roughly 3-4 hours daily, and it helps to get through
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Hello from the Magic Tavern is crazy funny. It's an improvised interview show in a fantastical land.

Start with the first episode It has a loose narrative arc, and while you can pick it up anywhere and laugh, I think it's better from the beginning.

Other than that, Reply All is usually good for a laugh. It's pretty serious sometimes - it's a show about the internet - but their Yes Yes No episodes are often hilarious.

If I did, how many people complained about Cuphead no longer being MS exclusive?
That discussion would have been when the Switch version was announced.

I don't care about the Tesla thing myself. Seems like a publicity thing more than anything else. At least it wasn't some cringey Squanch Games not-Rick-and-Morty meme game I guess.

Just a heads up, the Microsoft Rewards hot deal with the Microsoft gift cards for 20% off maybe ending soon. $10 deal is already sold out and looks less $5 is on limited quantities warning so get to it soon if you want them.
They're gone. 300 points short of another $5. Guess that's what I get for donating 500 points while redeeming $5 last week. Hope they come back before the next lukewarm deal comes along.

Well never listened to Retronauts and looks like I won't because of that...

And Jericho's ads... You'll get use to. He just does his like that so they're awkward the first few times, but tolerable. Every other podcaster varies, some do beginning of the show and at the end or between the episode they'll announce a commercial break is how majority do theirs. On the subject of Jon Moxley podcasts, skip the Wade Keller PW Torch interview if you go into a dive of his interviews. Wade Keller has the most and abundant commercials I've ever heard on a podcast and they're about every ten minutes and a bunch repeat.

At least you donated them to something good...I was dumb enough to play the scratch 3 game three times so I "donated" 900 pts back to Bing. Those things are a rip off.

Does anybody have that link to those movies that were on sale (if they still are) for the 2,500 Bing points? I was at Dreamhack Dallas, but I remember seeing a post about $3.99 movies on sale working.

Man how was it?

They were only for 3 days. I think some new ones are up. Not as cheap though.

https://www.gamesradar.com/the-halo-tv-show-will-be-similar-in-scope-and-scale-to-game-of-thrones-says-343-boss/

I'm getting kind of tired of all these ridiculous claims on the forever delayed Halo TV show. And GamesRadar's writing is shit, cutting out the fluff below.

Speaking to The Game Maker’s Notebook podcast, 343 transmedia boss Kiki Wolfkill, was asked about what the Halo TV show could be compared to in the medium.

“"It's hard to find an analog. We talk about Game of Thrones a lot in terms of scope and scale and complexity of relationships,” before expanding that “A lot of the background of Halo is this sort of political drama. It's something that [is mentioned] really lightly in the games… Some of that [Game of Thrones] complexity is interesting."
While political drama is a big factor in many of the books, comparing the relationships that characters have to one another to those in ASOIAF/Game of Thrones is laughable at best. I would say the only time this has been even remotely close to true in the many books is the Forerunner trilogy written by Greg Bear. With the books set in the main timeline characters have had pretty inconsistent attitudes, motivations, and character arcs because there have been many writers handling them at different times. There also tend to be way less characters than GoT was juggling, with like 10 important characters max in any given book.

Starting tomorrow, THQ Nordic is teasing a new game everyday for 3 days. Makes sense because they have a truckload of games in development. A new Darksiders may have already leaked as one of the three announcements.

Edit: And Rocksteady says they will not be announcing their next project at e3. I'm excited to see what they come out with next. https://twitter.com/Seftonhill/status/1136038340652916736
