Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

The terrible Gear Pack system is gone from Gears 5. Monitization sounds a lot like Fortnite except no paid battle pass.

https://www.gears5.com/earning-content
They're still doing microtransactions (selling cosmetics though directly and NOT through loot boxes, and also XP boosts) but this is infinitely better than Gears 4. The season model makes a ton of sense given it would encourage people to stay subscribed to Game Pass (which makes MS bank). The lack of a premium pass for each season is even better.
Lootboxes are still sort of in the game which sucks but you can only earn them, not buy them (this is to encourage people to buy XP boosts since they halve the time it takes to get one, which I think is the worst offense here).

On the bright side, all maps are free for all modes, even in private matches, and I'm hoping this means the death of Halo's paid REQ system.

I've only called MS support once, they wouldn't help me. I was upset at the time, but looking back it was kind of funny just how silly the whole situation was.

This is shortly after the X1 was released, and the Kinect was in full effect. I signed into my account on a controller and went to redeem a code for Titanfall using the Kinect, they made it really easy, so you could just scan it in on the camera.
Right before it finally accepted my code, my girlfriend walked in the room and activated another great new feature on the Kinect, it saw her face and auto-signed her in. Immediately it accepted my code and applied it to her account.

Obviously there should have been some sort of safe-guard to keep that from happening while in the middle of scanning a code. Or at least prompt and verify which account to apply it to, when there are multiple signed in. It seemed like something that was Microsoft's fault for bad design. Anyway,
I'm sure I've had at least 2 free copies of Titanfall between then and now.

A little over a year ago I bought the wrong version of a game that was on sale on XBL.  It was the Resident Evil bundle.  I chatted them right away.  It took a while but they were able to refund the purchase.  Then I bought the right one.  I think they might have said it was a one time courtesy type thing.

Many years ago (12 or so) I bought a wireless board/mouse from Circuit City.  It was a present for either my GF or maybe her dad.  Hooked it up for them and it didn't work.  Don't remember maybe the keyboard worked but not the mouse.  Chatted them on Christmas Eve.  I actually think I called too.  Took a long time but they agreed it was defective and agreed to swap it out.

Normally I would have just taken it back to the store but CC was going out of business.

I think I dealt with their support once or twice more but can't recall.   I have had decent dealings with them via chat/phone.  At least the outcome was what I wanted even if it took a long while to get there.

Wow are they bad, thankfully a tleast the game plays great otherwise
Plays great but overly difficult with rubber banding to the point of being downright annoying. I love kart racers and one first place finish after two hours of playing on normal. (And yes, I tried easy and it’s on the other end of the spectrum being way too easy.)

It’s a well made game with more polish than Sonic Team Racing but think I’ll be spending more time with Sonic. The cheap difficulty of rubber banding AI then add in long loading times and it’s just making it a miserable experience to me.

i did 2 story mode races on easy difficulty in crash team racing last night. i wasn't trying very hard, just getting a feel for the handling and mechanics.

the first race i lost by .15 seconds as the nearest racer boosted past me from off-screen.

the second race ended up in a tie when the nearest race boosted again from off-screen.

you can actually hear the racer boosting at the finish line to rob you of the win.

For any Bloodstained players I can confirm that playing on what's available right now I was able to get the problem item that the glitch makes unobtainable. I was about 6 hours in and fought a large boss on a tower. The item in question is Silver Bromide. Supposedly there is one more item but I think anyone playing now is good for sure since that chest was closed for me.

Agree completely it took me about an hour and a half to get my first win on medium difficulty, rubber banding is bad and I'm really curious to see how bad the bosses are some of the reviews are talking about how terrible they are and you can never build a lead...ugh might try sonic and see which I like better. I am still having a lot of fun with CTR though

Won’t say the new Sonic is the best game ever. Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed is still the best kart racer on Xbox. But I just now gave CTR another try concentrating on working on my drift boosts and it’s still incredibly frustrating. I don’t like the way drifting feels to begin with but even after a race where I everything hit just right, I had an AI kart blow last me right at the finish line. I was about to throw my controller through the TV. I like some challenge but when it gets to the point where I’m not enjoying a game and the AI feels cheap...nah.

I was about to throw my controller through the TV. I like some challenge but when it gets to the point where I’m not enjoying a game and the AI feels cheap...nah.
Thank you! I've been saying this myself and I'm just shocked at all the amazing CTR reviews and love it's getting when Sonic is the real winner.

What’s funny is that if you read some of those reviews, many of them even talk about the rubber banding and absurd difficulty. Don’t understand why they are rewarding it with good scores anyway. IGN and GameSpot at least drag it down a notch for it but not enough IMO.

And the drifting controls just don’t feel good to me. I’m trying to get used to them but feel like I’m fighting with the controls.

On another better note, started Bloodstained and am loving it. So well done, looks beautiful and worth the wait....though I have been lucky to not run into an bugs yet.

For anyone still in ExpertZone, it looks like they're changing the format of the reward systems and moving to a focus on digital codes, so hopefully there will be more updates. As is, the current store is going away in September, but they said they're going to do some "updates" to it until then, and there are a couple of free pouch things available at the moment. Doesn't look like anything new as far as actual gaming stuff though.
Just checked there the other day and noticed they added a bunch of Microsoft socks and a fanny pack. Game selection is still pretty meh with nothing from the past few years. Hopefully they make up for it with a GPU accreditation at some point but of course that would make adding game codes to the rewards section pointless. :D

Because Activision owns Crash and journos and media outlets don't want to lose the in or the "perks" of being nice to them

I Gotta admit, Game Pass and the rewards quests are probably the greatest motivator I've ever had to start and finish games. I Feel like one of those commercials where I get paid to play games, except, you know, the pay is worse. Much worse.
Yeah. I bought The Turing Test over a year ago but hadn't played it until last night when I started it for the ID@Xbox quest. It's a fun Portal-like (so far).

The day the socks/fanny pack went up they also had a 12 month Gold code in the store. It was delivered instantly via email, and sold out just as quickly as you'd expect a points-only 12 month code would.

So yeah, it was good to see that their new ordering system can handle sending out codes, even if it can't currently handle more than 1 "new" item in the cart at the same time.

Success! I called up again today and this time, I was actually helped and it wasn't even by a supervisor. We both had the same first name so that was a good sign right away. The guy treated me like a supervisor is supposed to and needs a raise for sure! Like my friend that works for Verizon told me years ago, you just have to keep trying and eventually, someone will do their job and help you. I now have Game Pass Ultimate through 6-15-2022. I gave him a glowing review in the survey I was sent.

The supervisors flat out lied to me by telling me there was nothing they can do. Just keep trying guys and girls until you get help.

I beat the game with the "good ending" and never ran into any chest issues and yeah that one wasn't an issue. There was one basic cooking ingredient that I had trouble with, Black Pepper. By all accounts I've seen on other systems, PS4, is supposed to be offered by the NPC vendor and never showed up for me. I had to get it out of the respawning blue chests, but it was found in the specific chest that was pointed to in forums so could just be a feature. I'm at 99.20% on the map and still debating on shelving it till this whole mess get's sorted out. I'm not really against another play through because I think at least a new game + is needed to fill out all the Demons and maybe items.

no 5 dollar email :(

but I did notice there was a hot sale (super sale)? on 5 ms bucks for 4000 points
I noticed the $10 card is already sold out, not a big deal since it's the same points price as the $10 card, but I wonder if these things will be going a lot faster now that a whole ton of people no longer need to save up for Gold or GamePass for a bit. I was on vacation the last week so haven't been keeping up that well, but did I also see somewhere that Rewards prices across the board are going up for the number of points it takes to get them? Might be a good time for me to cash out again.

super late edit, but yeah $10 card sold out should of said $5 after that

That’s a good point about Gold and Gamepass point cost skyrocketing. I’m going to go ahead and put mine towards two $5 cards. Hopefully I can use them towards EA Access. I’ve heard people say both you can and can’t use it for that subscription.

Regular MS Digital Gift Card not labeled with the Xbox branding digital gift card is 5000 points for $5 so I would assume they are always the same, bet having both of those goes away some day soonish also since it never made any sense

I just checked the bing rewards page and they had a 0 point (free) 1 month of gamepass, even though I already have tons of gamepass ultimate on my account.
It converted to 20 days of ultimate. Anyway, keep an eye out for that.

Could that have been from completing the GamePass Quests from a few months ago? After completing the Quests you needed to go the rewards page to claim it for free.

Bing Rewards page? For me that redirects to Microsoft Rewards

Some good news though: I didn't get the $5 Xbox email but I tried out that Raise gift card deal and managed to get a $25 Xbox gift card for $17, so I got that going for me. I have a referral link if anyone else wants to try

Seemed like light gaming news today. Must be in a lull after E3.

I did pick up My Hero One's Justice for a good price. I'm surprised that for the base fights there is absolutely no subtitle option so only the end card is in English. I really don't understand how the Kill La Kill game is confirmed to have both an English dub and the subtitles, the games for the vastly more popular My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan are subs only. I mean, I personally would play all of these with subs given a choice, but it seems strange to to me. They're all from different publishers though, so that's probably the reason for the different approaches.

Speaking of anime related content, I probably won't have time to start watching it until next week, but Evangelion was added to Netflix finally. The new dub and translation are being extremely polarizing to community. Big shit fits in every Eva or anime related discussion I've been seeing. I'm withholding judgement until I see it in full but the clips are not promising and they botched the music by somehow cheaping out on the one licensed song they needed, after spending what must have been a MUCH higher amount to free the series from licensing hell.

I've read a bit, people are crying censorship, but it seems like the new translation was done by one of the original studios. Of course it might be misinformation, anecdotally I've seen a few people that I know live in Japan/Korea debating the nuance of the words in the original script and how it may be different but it's still true to the text. My friend said I'm a good test case for the changes since I've never seen it before. I don't see the big deal about the song, everyone skips the credits on Netflix anyway. VPN to Japan if you need it.

lol this is such an activision thing to do. i had to send screenshots of it to some friends.

the game is rated E for everyone. i'm sure they expect kids to review those agreements :bomb:

Alright, as long as my game is not updated tomorrow when my next chance to play it is, I will turn off auto updates and beat it asap. Would be nice to finish it before Judgement.

I Look forward to getting Judgment as well, not just because from developers of Yakuza, but more when I get ready to play the game I'll be blasting this.

And I think I'm going to move on from Hollow Night. I'm old and bitter and play games to escape my frustrations and I have a backlog. Now excuse me while I buy Sleeping Dogs for the third time on my PS4.

I preordered Gears 5 Ultimate the day it went up on the store... when I visit the store page it says I own it and I can manage the installation yet it isn't actually showing up in my installed list or waiting to install list. Anyone else having this issue?

Other games I've preordered like Samurai Showdown and Borderlands 3 show up in my lists no problem.

1 month Game Pass (normal, not ultimate) sub for new subscribers only:

Funny stuff, and yeah, there have been some frustrating moments where I’m like, “How far away was that bench?” And then a few minutes later, “I have to walk HOW FAR from that bench back to where I was to get my crap?!” I’m enjoying the heck out of the game though. Very solid Metroidvania style. Took a bit of a break this week and ended up back in Destiny 2 for some reason (I’m kinda... having fun? It’s weird), but I’ll definitely go back to finish it up. Have to upgrade my nail first.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's censorship, but from what I've seen the chances made due to the more nuanced meanings of some of the original Japanese have hurt the overall vibe. "I really like you" instead of "I love you" is the worst thing I've seen, espeically when you look at that same character in 3.33, but "I'm the lowest of the low" really comes off as unnatural compared to "I'm so fucked up". I'm don't speak Japanese though, so I'm only going off of what I can see in English.

I don't necessarily think a more strict translation that is faithful to the exact words over linguistic intent is the better choice, but that's a very subjective take. We've had similar discussions in games, and it's why Metal Gear Solid 1 has the most solid script of series. Once it became more popular the old translator was ousted and the new style made the writing more quirky, though I guess the argument can go either way there.

Really, I imagine the show will hold up with these changes, it's just disappointing that such a classic series to the medium even had major changes like this. If Netflix really wanted to make their own dub, I still think they should have gone the extra mile and figured out the rights for the 20 year old dub everyone is familiar with as an option. Hopefully if the series gets a blu-ray release after the exclusivity period runs out they'll put both on it.

As far as the song, it's just a strange thing to to refuse to spring for. It always felt like a part of the series to me since each ending was a different rendition. You're probably right about most of them being skipped, and I am seeing a lot of the modern anime communities of view stuff come up a lot in the overall discussion as well. "Every anime dub is objectively bad no matter watch, anime should only be watched in it's original language."

The other objectively bad choice is that they supposedly don't translate the onscreen text, which is pretty important in the last couple episodes.

Know I’m still going to be in the minority but switched back over to Sonic Team Racing and wow I just enjoy it so much more. Drifting is the way I prefer it. Like the slipstream mechanics. Loading times are better. No ridiculous rubber banding.

Just yeah. More my type of kart racer.

And again Racing Transformed still my favorite on Xbox in the genre.

Don't really understand the complaints about CTRN being of insane difficulty. Just as hard as it always was. I haven't played a kart racer since the original CTR, and I've got 3 trophies in 10 races. Much it the first runs were finding lines and familiarizing myself with the powerups and sliding. I'm sure it will start to suck later, but I'm enjoying it immensely. Always wanted to try Sonic Racing, but heard it was just okay. I might give it a shot on sale based on the love here.

I'm undecided if I should cash out some more gold/game pass microsoft rewards, because they haven't upped to the new expensive prices here yet...none of them are hot deals currently though..

CTR is 30 FPS on all platforms.

And I would say for me it’s not just difficulty that has me preferring Sonic. I just like the mechanics more. The way drifting works, slipstreams, etc.

after sonic all-stars transformed, i was looking forward to sonic on xbox one until i saw crash team racing gameplay. it just seemed more nuanced and diverse. it's going to take a while to adapt to the drifting style, though.
