  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

So I’m thinking about jumping on the 4000 for $40.00 deal, but the only thing I’m really interested in is the FH4 expansion pass. Anyone know if that would apply? I don’t want to go full Ultimate Edition as I have Gamepass.

Homefront revolution is $5 cheapest it's been to my knowledge. Have it on disc, only played for a few hours but seemed like it was in the mediocre range of games. Kinda surprised it's not on gamepass.

Uh, did you actually click the title themselves? More often than not the $2 is the rental price since Microsoft likes to troll everyone with the rental price on the listing and actual sale price after you click it.
Dammit, I've been bamboozled. You are right. The $2 price is for renting. Buying is $5 a piece, meaning the collection totally kicks ass. I know Hulu was streaming them for a while, but I haven't been able to find them recently, so this would fulfill that need. Always loved the Adventure team best.

Is the $5 RE7 X Enhanced? I'll probably buy it regardless but it would be nice to know in advance.

Edit: I figured out that they're separate listings for the same product. I bought the PC version and now own the X-Enhanced Xbox version as well.

Speaking of Resident Evil, I haven't seen anyone talk about the Outbreak games currently on sale that pays homage to the franchise - has anyone played them? The third game, Nightmare Chronicles - not to be confused with Nightmare Collection - looks like a blatant ripoff of the first RE game. Reviews say the game is only an hour or two long, but for $2.49, that's fine with me.

The games are made by a single developer, and they seem to improve with each newer installment, so I wouldn't mind supporting an indie developer who made a half-decent RE clone.
I can answer that. In all honesty, as well meaning as Drop Dead Studios is, their dev cycle time right now is wayyyy too short. The single dev studio managed to turn out new games every 3-4 months. Chronicles was made 4 months after New Nightmare, and Epidemic was made 3 months after Lost Hope. There was a year between Lost Hope and Chronicles where the dev focused extensively on dlc chapters for Chronicles too. Honestly, the games could use a lot more QA and time in the pipeline. Sadly, f you have ever been on the DDS discord, the dev is openly antagonistic towards critics, calling many bad reviews "trolling."

I don't believe the dev is openly trying to rip off any particular game but it is quite clear they are paying homage to the RE series, which isn't inherently a bad thing. Personally, I feel that DDS peaked at Outbreak: The New Nightmare, where the content and decent amount of polish really shows. That being said, that's only on the PC version. The Xbox One versions are fucking trash ports. Luckily, the games aren't too demanding on PC so if you want to play anything, get New Nightmare on Steam. Unfortunately, the series will likely never improve until the dev learns to handle criticism properly and change up their dev habits.

Thanks for all that info. Funnily enough, you warning me not to buy the games actually makes them look more impressive to me; I assumed that the developer was putting out a new game every year, but if each game only had 3 or 4 months development time, that's amazing considering that the games look quite playable already, even if they're not great games.

The first Outbreak was a top-down game, the next few installments fit the Resident Evil 1-3 mold, and now the latest installment, Lost Hope, looks to emulate RE4-6's gameplay. How did a sole developer with only a few months of work on each game transition that quickly? Each game retails for $5-10 and couldn't have sold more than a few thousand copies each.

Do the games utilize tank controls? The enemies in these games look much faster than in RE, so the playable character would have to be faster too. Most of the complaints I've seen for these games could also be said about the early RE games, like infinite enemies with limited supplies. The New Nightmare is a particularly bad port since the console version doesn't support multiplayer whereas the PC version does.

Don't get me wrong - most people would probably be better served putting that $5 towards RE7 currently on sale, but I have a soft spot for games that succeed despite their vast limitations. Part of that is because I'm expecting these games to be turds, so if they're half-decent, they already exceeded my expectations. RE7 is a game that won awards and high review scores, so my expectations for that game in contrast would be sky-high. Another game I quite enjoyed from last generation that was widely panned is Hydrophobia, which plays like an early Tomb Raider game. I think these games are often criticized because it would be difficult not to compare them to modern games, but I would be expecting gameplay straight from 1996. Do the Outbreak games at least meet that standard?

Went through Blazing Chrome (on Game Pass) over the last 2-3 days. It's a great Contra clone, it can be similarly unforgiving but it has checkpoints for levels which makes deaths far less punishing. Easy mode is still pretty challenging and has infinite continues, the final boss is a total Shaq-Fu. Will probably go back to play through on Normal because I hate myself.

It's probably the best (new) Contra game we're getting for now since the one they showed off at E3 looks pretty dumb.

So I’m thinking about jumping on the 4000 for $40.00 deal, but the only thing I’m really interested in is the FH4 expansion pass. Anyone know if that would apply? I don’t want to go full Ultimate Edition as I have Gamepass.
I'd like to know this as well.

I’ve played through the first level (Blazing Chrome) and love the fact that it takes me back to that Super Contra feeling on the SNES. The game glitched on the first boss though just as I was about to beat it, darn frustrating.

Was going to post something similar, likening it to Contra and it grabbing my attention. I was even ruminating on my mild frustration with it while brushing my teeth and I believe game developers of the 80’s and 90’s would’ve used save access throughout the game if it was available and merely set games up like this to fit arcades or technology.

Super Mario World had half-way points, so I don't think it was tech, just arcade influence on game design. That, and challenge was one of the main things to motivate replayability. Mega Man had the same design philosophy, Contra just took it a step further and spit in your face.

It doesn't help that early home gaming was almost entirely arcade ports. The original Contra is a game I can still almost beat on original hardware, if I sat down and really dedicated a day or two to it, I could do it again. But Contra III? That game is insane without modern conveniences.

Haven't really gotten a chance to look through sales yet. Wish ubisoft was willing to drop their BC games to $5 instead of $8. I want to go back and get the multiplayer achievements in farcry 3 but with BC on hold the chances of it going GwG are higher than usual.

Does pillars of eternity play like diablo? I just watched the trailer on the store page and it didn't show a ton. Need to look into it more. Thinking about picking it up but may hold off.

Pillars of Eternity is totally different than Diablo.

Up, up, down, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start?

So I’m thinking of picking up Asura’s wrath. Which DLC is needed for “true” ending? Is it the one that’s currently $6.99? Insert previous rants about BS DLC paywall.

Big change for those that game share Fortnite's Save the World mode. People who haven't bought (or been gifted) the Founder's Pack will no longer be able to earn V-Bucks, and instead will get a new currency that basically does the same thing for STW but doesn't transfer to Battle Royale. This is likely due to the further spreading of a semi-exploit of game sharer's making extra accounts and gifting their main account stuff.

At least the game is on sale right now, I will definitely be buying it finally, and if you care about earning cosmetics for yourself or to gift to others, it's pretty worth it if you're willing to grind them out in STW.

Other than that the new patch is out with standard changes, and it looks like the BR event on Saturday is going to be a Megazord-style robot fighting a Kaiju.

There is a birthday event that just started in STW that has some unique rewards and the ability to unlock anything from the past year. A BR event will be starting presumably on July 24th like last year, with some free items to unlock as well.

I've asked in the dev streams if they're going to break it up like Crackdown 3, but haven't gotten an answer.  Will try again this week.

Will have to look into it more then. Trailer left a lot to the imagination so I just assumed it similar since they're similar camera angles.
I picked it up quite awhile ago and its more C-RPG than anything else. But, it has a weird level-up function where you cannot level-up unless you complete a quest. Kill what you want, does not matter. I liked it but hit a wall where I cannot finish any more quests so my guys were just getting murdered. I keep wanting to look up online how to build my guy better, but, that just frustrates me since I should be able to move forward regardless of how stupid I built my guy/party.

I am not saying dont buy it, but, be aware of what you are getting into.

Functionally I guess they're similar but I'd prefer the Master Chief Collection's method of Uninstalling unwanted parts from one base application.

Thinking of double dipping on Little Nightmares ($6) and Sundered ($8). Enjoyed what I played of both on PS4 but would rather start again and finish on X1. Still weary of either or coming to GamePass.

Onishuma: Warlords ($12) is also tempting.

Was considering the Castlevania collection even though I’m kind of maxed out with other CV-likes already and not a big savings.

I know it’s shocking to talk about “sales”. :)

I think I'm missing Microsoft Rewards points on one particular purchase. Is there a way somewhere in the dashboard to break down how many points I got for each purchase?

Sundered is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so with PC GamePass now a thing I wonder if that gives it a bit of a boost at a chance to hit the service. Seems like Little Nightmares has been cheap for a very long time, and also seems like a game that would of been on there by now, I liked it a lot for what it was. $6 seems pretty fair if it's for all the DLC chapters as they really flesh out the game.

For some reason the Castlevania Collection is priced $2 higher than it is on the PS4 sale that's happening right now at the exact same time. Could always just hold out for the principle of that alone.

Good points. Probably will grab Little Nightmares at least.

In that context, sure, you could buy the games and they would probably meet your standards. That being said, I would stay away from the X1 ports as they are far buggier than the original PC versions. As to how the dev was able to develop games so quickly: The engine is already fleshed out and the only real difference between the fixed camera and OTS camera versions is specifically the camera. The tank controls are still largely the same and you still will end up fighting the controls regardless if you have them set to classic tank or modern tank variations. Most of the work is simply making new levels and the assets that go along with them, which isn't incredibly demanding if this is the only thing the dev does in the meantime. Plus, the speed of development also comes without the required QA that the newer installments should be getting, so you're going to run into far more balancing issues and bugs in the games past New Nightmare. Still, if you don't mind that and want to support the dev despite those flaws, go ahead and look into Lost Hope and Chronicles but remember: caveat emptor.

So can someone verify that $5 price for RE7 is for the Xbox or Win10 or both? I am just a bit confused that TrueAchievements has the $15 price.

I’m sure most know but Nier: Automata is so good. The varying perspectives, shmup switch to dead souls like multiplayer aspect makes it such a gem that’s worth it at this price. Can’t put it down.

Off topic but thatgamecompany’s Sky is finally out on iOS. Pretty cool game in the vein of Journey but with a multiplayer component. Still haven’t figured out how intrusive the IAPs are but if you liked Journey, I’d say it’s worth a download. F2P aspect certainly isn’t as in your face as some other mobile crap. Beautiful game.

As well as missing the weekly punch card in the rewards app on the Xbox, I am also missing the spend $40 get 4000 points offer.

Also, with the resident evil 7 gold $15, I think I read that this is a windows price and a different price then on the Xbox. Is this true?
EDIT:Have just seen a page that is selling it for $74 $au, so looks like the windows price is only for America.
