Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Japanese (style) Xbox game alert. Grid-based RTS gameplay like Fire Emblem or Wargroove.

Tears of Avia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klMShjfsvJY

I thought it looked fairly "budget" so tried to look into it. Apparently it had an unsuccessful Kickstarter 4 years ago. They kept working on it and received funding from somewhere sometime in 2017. Somehow, it is only coming to Steam and Xbox One. It's not really a Japanese game since the lead guy working on it is a western dev who worked on several Lego games, but the art designer is Japanese. It looks like at least originally there were only 6 people on the team.

Some gameplay details are on the Steam page. It seems they are using a Patreon as some sort of funding, though at $300 a month I can't believe this was the majority of funding. The game may be pretty cheap, for Patreon members they get a code if they contributed $10 or more before February.

Might be cool, if the team is still only 6 people I'm very impressed.

Am I the only xboxer that just doesn’t really like the gameplay of Gears? The bullet sponge enemies, the run to puke inducing screen shake, missing melee swings, the slow pace of the movement and gameplay, the super tiny multiplayer games (4v4 neato 1996o), and the like. Anyone?

Man, I was looking at Warhammer Inquisitor Champion Savior Betrayer Extra Titles Edition and decided it was worth the extra $2 for the season pass, but then I accidentally bought the Deluxe Edition which is another $1 more for half the skins and no season pass. I am officially a failure of a CAG, where do I turn in my badge and gun?

Gears definitely has a unique style and I think plenty of people aren't into it, but I've generally had fun with it, especially in the later games where it's only 90% Gnashers instead of 100%.

I think they toned down the screen shake some in the later games but I'm not sure. Melee generally sucks and is only useful for grenade tagging or as an absolute last resort, and it's hindered by the being locked to B instead of a bumper or stick in all (?) of the control schemes.

In multiplayer at least I wouldn't call the gameplay slow with the frantic Gnasher battles and wall-bouncing, but it is more so in the traditional modes with only one life like Exectution, though I tend to stick to King of the Hill or Deathmatch most of the time.

Personally, I generally prefer smaller team size over larger as it tends to promote more actual team play, rather than the heavy "lone wolf syndrome" that tends to be prevalent in big team modes/games like Battlefield, Battlefront, or Halo 5's Warzone. There certainly is a demand for it, Halo's bread and butter has generally been 4 on 4, Overwatch skirts the line with 6 but is reeled in by the character classes, and Rainbow Six Siege is one of the bigger shooters on the market with 5v5 teams and very tactical matches. This likely stems back to older games as Counter Strike is generally 5v5 as well, and the old arena shooters like Quake were either small teams or free-for-all. Really, I don't think big teams have ever been the most popular modes. It's usually a secondary option for most games with a few outliers here and there, and the recent rise of Battle Royale has brought a new flavor to the table. Kind of a mix of both worlds with small team size but a shitload of teams.

Yesss...thank you! I just finally forced myself to beat the first one after all these years. Have all the others but doubt I’ll ever play them just can’t get into them

Any game where the character says, "G*D D**N S*N OF A B***H!!!" when you fail an active reload is A-OK with me.

That being said, I haven't played any of them in years and don't have any interest in the new one coming out.

I’ve tried several times to give the game a chance and it’s just not for me. I can see why people like it. I enjoy cover shooters but it feels too tight. The aesthetics and story don’t do anything for me either.

Guess we cant say "goddamn son of a bitch" lol   Yea Gears is only doing like 4k views on Twitch atm. Doesnt seem to be too interesting

I wonder if they made event skins harder to unlock in overwatch since they didn't add as many this time. I got two legendary skins tonight and neither were event skins, usually I'll only unlock one non event skin during the entirety of an event. Maybe it's just poor luck on my part.

Which Splinter Cell is the best? I only really played the first one but I remember enjoying it. I think I just wasn't in a patient mood when I tried to play the sequels, so the fact that I didn't play much of them may not be an indictment of their quality. I was thinking of picking out one to buy for my nephew to introduce him to the series and stealth, suggestions?
First 3 are classics.

It says available until 8/15/19.

I know there was a XBL to GPU conversion chart somewhere here on CAG. Anyone know how much this would add to GPU?
I remember asking the same question a few weeks ago & the answer made me laugh. I think it was like 12 months of Gold becomes 4 months of GPU. I'll have to go back in the thread to double check but essentially the conversion wasn't good enough - for me - to want to convert any of my Gold 12-month sub cards over to GPU after the fact. I guess they were much more generous *before* you switch with the $1 offer, essentially making any pre-existing Gold months switch to GPU 1 to 1.

EDIT: I'm curious...if I cash out some points to "purchase" this Gold hot deal, does anyone know if the code has to be used within a certain time frame/does it expire? Or can I essentially cash in for this & hang on to the code until my GPU expires...then activate it? I honestly don't think I'll be motivated to re-up on GPU...but I will definitely want to stick with Gold after my GPU expires in Feb 2020....

I finally decided to download Dead By Daylight to get the one achievement for the quest. Thats 300 points I will never get. I just do not like it at all.

I felt the same way but I kept at it. The game was starting to grow on me but I still hadn’t popped an achievement after 8 or so games. During the last game, the killer was cool enough to pick me up and drop me next to the escape hatch. The funny part was that I kept fighting him since I had no idea what he was doing.

22,500 points for four months is better than 35,000 for three months. I think we just have to face it that using reward points for keeping Ultimate going indefinitely for no money just isn't going to happen. Unless maybe you are willing to put in more time for gathering points per day and be religious about it and never miss a day.

I don't think the codes expire, I hung onto a Game Pass code for quite a while before I redeemed it prior to the conversion.

I’ve tried several times to give the game a chance and it’s just not for me. I can see why people like it. I enjoy cover shooters but it feels too tight. The aesthetics and story don’t do anything for me either.
I hate the running being required, the game doesn't feel precise to me. I'd like to be more in control of where I'm going but when I'm running it's hard to be accurate.

You just need to level a single character to level 10. I think it took me about a dozen games to get it to pop. Just keep in mind that healing people and pulling them off hooks gives far more xp than repairing generators.

Maybe after this sale MS will have a DLC sale.  I don't buy that much DLC but there's a few I've been holding out for a sale on that haven't been discounted for months.  Some are on sale on PSN right now too.

Hot Deal just showed up, 22,500 for a 12 month gold.
I can finally stop kicking myself for not getting a year of Gold before they got rid of them. I was still down on myself from not getting more 1 year codes of Game Pass when it was first on Rewards, but now for 45,000 points, and my GP ending in December and Gold ending in February, I'm good with GPU until July 2022. I don't think GPU will be worth it by then, since Game Pass PC doesn't add much considering Xbox Play Anywhere already applied for PC games, but we'll see how the landscape changes by then.

Also, if anyone has the points, it's definitely best to redeem them now, since any good Hot Deal has been out of stock within a couple days, and this seems like the best Hot Deal possible for a while.

I had a 1 month Game Pass code that came with my X.  Expired on 6/30/2019.  Tried to redeem it and it worked.  Gave me 20 days of GPU.

I am good now until early January 2022.

Just a heads up in case anyone has these 'expired' codes thinking they are useless.  Worth try.

Decided to buy Daytona USA and Jet Set Radio(I still call it Jet Grind Radio) for $5 each.  Was kinda thrown off when Daytona's size went from 228 MB on the 360 to 884MB on Xbox One.  Jet Set Radio's went from 998MB to 1.59GB.  First time I've encountered different file sizes of DL-only 360 games.

But am enjoying widescreen support for these and the cleaned up visuals.

As Xbox Insiders, your feedback helps inform the decisions and updates we make on Xbox, from new features to how gamers interact with the console itself. Based on your valuable feedback, we’ve been continuing to iterate on two key experiences on Xbox, delivering you a faster Home experience and evolving the way we support Xbox voice commands to improve the voice experience.

Evolving Home

The Home on Xbox One is the first thing you see when you turn on your Xbox One, and we want to deliver an easy and seamless experience for you to navigate your console. We’ve heard your feedback and have continued to iterate on Home to get you into your gaming experiences faster and keeping more of your content front and center. With today’s update, we’re experimenting with a streamlined user interface.

With this new experimental Home design, the first thing you’ll notice is we’ve removed the Twists from the top of Home in favor of separate buttons that launch your gaming experiences. The goal is to let you jump into Xbox Game Pass, Mixer, Xbox Community and Microsoft Store quicker than ever. We’ve also shifted things around to make more room for your recently played titles.

We need your help testing out the new interface. The new experimental Home rolls out this week to select Xbox Insiders in our Alpha and Alpha Skip Ahead rings. For more details on rollout, keep an eye on the Xbox Insiders section of Xbox Wire. The Home experience will continue to evolve and change based on your feedback, so please let us know what you think and share your ideas for Home at the Xbox Ideas Hub. You may see this layout change and even come and go as we iterate on your feedback.

Changes to voice commands on Xbox One

Last fall, we expanded Xbox voice commands to hundreds of millions of smart devices by enabling Xbox One to connect with Xbox Skill for Cortana and Alexa-enabled devices. Xbox Skill continues to grow and change based on your feedback, including new updates that rolled out earlier this month.

Building on these efforts, we are now further evolving the way we support voice commands on Xbox and are moving away from on-console experiences to cloud-based assistant experiences. This means you can no longer talk to Cortana via your headset. However, you can use the Xbox Skill for Cortana via the Cortana app on iOS, Android, and Windows or via Harmon Kardon Invoke speaker to power your Xbox One, adjust volume, launch games and apps, capture screenshots, and more —just as you can do with Alexa-enabled devices today. We’ll also continue to improve the Xbox Skill across supported digital assistants and continue expanding our Xbox voice capabilities in the future based on fan feedback.

Starting this week, this update will roll out to our Alpha Skip Ahead ring and will fully rollout to all users this fall.  As part of these changes, this update will temporarily disable dictation for the virtual keyboard on Xbox One. Don’t worry though, our team is working to provide an alternative solution and will have more details to share soon.

As always, your feedback is important to us and our partners as we continue to evolve the Xbox One Home and shape the digital assistant and voice command experience on Xbox. We have some exciting updates in the works and can’t wait to share what’s next, so stay tuned for more.

I'm very surprised that a large number of people are using voice commands with Xbox.  Is this true?  Or do they mean people are just yelling at menus because it's so slow?

My problem with the home screen is 40% of it is still that Discover section with ads. Get that garbage off my home screen. I don’t care about your deal on game pass or controllers or what Sasquatch is playing every time I turn on my console.

Yea exactly and I just want it to load faster

That's the main thing I don't care as much what it looks like. That's fine that the new home screen looks pretty but it means nothing if it's just slow laggy and unresponsive like the current one.

Definitely one of the things I'm hoping for the most improvement on with the next Box. They really need to make the Dashboard a way better experience. I'll give them a pass this time around since it's just such a total frankenstein mess of ideas cobbled together from the Kinect days, but no way do I want to see anymore "Something went wrong..." "This will take a minute" or me just holding the controller in a direction for 3 seconds while the dashboard does absolutely nothing till it decides it's ready. Not to even mention all the crashes back out to the home screen I get from things like the Store or the MS Rewards App. I'd say it happens about 50% of the time for myself.

Seriously. If they got rid of that crap it would load so much faster.

I used to use it all the time with kinect on my VCR model xbox. When I upgraded to the S and X and got the adapter I never plugged my kinect back in. By using it all time I mean 95% of the time I used it was to just say "xbox on" and "xbox off."

Every once in a while I'd use it to pause something or adjust the volume if the remote disappeared on me. Sometimes I'd use it to record a clip.

I wouldn't mind Google Assistant being able to talk directly to my console. Right now I have Google Home controlling my Logitech Harmony activities which then control my console, which works fine, but if I need to make any changes to any of that setup it looks like it could be a pain.

Also, I wouldn't mind Microsoft getting their shit together concerning group messages on Xbox.  Is anyone here able to successfully start a new group message?

i'm glad I don't have the slow dashboard like some of you guys do, but i'm not sure what causes it. There's some small things you can change that should help, like going into settings > personalization > theme > turning off smooth transitions.

It seems random on both consoles. I see plenty of people say that even the 360 had a faster UI than the slow PS4 one, but some say it's the fastest for them.

You can also reduce or remove any groups. The more stuff you got pinned on the home, the slower it's going to be because, uh, Microsoft.

There's nothing you can do about the rest of tabs so if it's slow, it's slow. *shrugs*

Maybe this new Home update will make it a bit snappier.  I kept hoping they would improve it in some major way like to the scale of what they did with the 360 dash a couple of times but at this point id rather they focus on making the next box better.

I hope that this means I'm not bombarded with Mixer shit. This is the most wasted space I remember on any One or 360 dashboard. I only ever use it for the Mixpots and virtually no Twitch streamers moved over to it.
