Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

I haven't gone to see what mine is worth, but it's a real shame that the new Godzilla Criterion box set that came out yesterday isn't in stock there. Particularly since I have a bunch of rewards credit to spend. Amazon has it in stock.

Does anyone know if new / recent releases are included in Barnes & Noble's November Criterion sale?
Looks like it's in the sale Bloomy, $112.49 at 50% off

Playing Bloodstained and I like how inconsistent the enemy designs are. Flying demon? Got it! Bunny girls who do martial arts? Sure, I guess. Giant head of a puppy? Uhh... Shovel Knight? Wait, did you just say Shovel Knight?

Also all the inconsistent reviews for Death Stranding has me more interested than before to possibly pick up that game more than if it were to get consistent perfect scores.

I can wait it out for PC, when Kojima said at Tokyo Game Show a couple months ago that he thinks people are going to hate the entire first half of this game that was a red flag for me. Watched Giantbomb's video this morning, was very entertaining, but yeah that gameplay didn't sell me on anything. Will be fun watching people melt down over the divisiveness of it all though. That IGN 6.8 rating will have many a fanboi ready for war.

The 80+ hour play time is only thing stopping me from immediately jumping on board...well, that and the enormous backlog, but I'm enjoying the varying opinions and no one knowing exactly what to make of it.

The Midsommer of video games!

I checked for that even before checking this thread. Mall near my work has it in stock, will be popping over.

I bought modern warfare last night.... digitally.... I’ll delete my account and make my way over to richassgamer now.
Make sure to create an account on weakwilledgamer.com also. /s

When the Spec Ops stuff is available on :xb1:, I might have to look into the game. In the past that was by far the most enjoyable part of those games for me.

I fully mirror this statement. Survival mode is all me and my buddy played couch coop. Always trying to better our highest level. I'm still both stunned and disappointed that the backlash has not been big enough to make them reconsider their position.

Their pockets are lined with Sony money so I'm sure they truly don't care about screwing us over.

Does that forum stay on topic? :)

I rediscovered the joys of Enter the Gungeon recently. I still suck ass at twin stick shooters, but that game is just so damned cool it keeps bringing me back.

Exit the Gungeon looks neat, I hope it makes it's way to xbox eventually. (Autocorrect changed that, but shouldn't it be "its" since it's possessive rather than a contracted "it is"? Oh well, in the spirit of the new Terminator 3 I'll defer to my handheld robot overlord)

Terminator movies are just terrible. I try not to hate them, but they've all been garbage since T2. New one looks pretty bad, and what I saw of that spoiler vid made the story seem god awful. I'll watch a torrent once it comes out on Bluray; unless reviews really turn around I don't plan on giving them any money.

So that’s effectively five games next month, as Final Station is not available in Australia, there’ll be a replacement game that can be claimed on the web.
Just making a reminder to myself to check the australian GWG site when Final Station should be available.

the first two Terminator movies are my all time favorite movies

I have no interest in Woke Fate
Here here! If I wanted to watch a FEMALE actor in an action movie, I'll stick to the franchises that made their name from having badass bitches at the forefront; Alien and... Terminator.... hmmmm.....

Yeah, the original films are my go-to examples of feminist action films. A friend of mine who teaches gender studies uses T2 in her class.

Sometimes an eyeroll is just an eyeroll.

Most likely under embargo of mentioning them until they are officially announced.
I mean the systems have both been announced by Sony and MS, so would seem pretty official. EA and Ubisoft have been announcing projects for the next system the last few days. I have complete faith Blizzard will sell you a new version for those systems. Since they only are talking about Xbox One and PS4 I wonder if Diablo 4 is hitting by next year, well shooting for next year and delayed into 2021.

Yeah I'm wary buying any X1 titles in the next 12 months with the new system out by then. I'm prolly gonna pick up Cyberpunk because I've been waiting forever for it but I'm sure a better version will come out lol

It will be interesting on how it goes this time with both systems seemingly fully backwards compatible and digitally purchased titles a way bigger factor. Maybe some free updates, maybe some $10 ones like Ubisoft had and of course straight up full price new releases.

So overwatch 2 content wise is essentially standalone PvE DLC since all PvP maps and characters that are added are also being added to Overwatch 1. Not positive if it's crossplay between 1 and 2 but it sounds like it could be since their whole thing was "no players left behind."

Yeah, based on what Kaplan said it really sounded like crossplay between 1 and 2 is the plan, as well as at least transferring unlocks forward from 1 to 2. They didn't clarify if that was a one way or one time transfer though. They also didn't say if the updated HUD, announcer, or character models will be coming to OW1.

Really, I'm not sure how I feel about this announcement. The fact that all PVP content is coming to OW1 still screams that this was meant to be an expansion. It seems pretty clear that Activision Blizzard want the increased sales that will come with a full blown numbered sequel. If this is going to be priced at $60, or even $40 like OW1 was on PC at launch, they need to have a LOT of content in that PVE to justify it.

That said, I was watching XQC and the other big streamers that Blizzard flew out to show it in action on stream, and it did look solid at least. The mission they showed was a lot longer, and more mechanically interesting, than the PVE stuff that's come out during the Archives and Halloween events. The length was somewhere between a Destiny Strike and about 2 or 3 chapters of a Left 4 Dead campaign, with cutscenes sprinkled in. It does look promising but I'd want to know just how many missions there are, and just how fleshed out the apparently separate "heavily replayable missions mode" is. The enhanced abilities that you can level up sounds good, but I'm not sure this will apply as well to a presumably more linear "go through predetermined missions" like a L4D game as it does to a game with loot helping to drive replayability like Destiny. This sounds like they'll be leaning a lot on the non-canon mode where I assume you can pick all or at least more of the roster.

Apparently there was an Overwatch panel like an hour or two ago. Write up with some new info from Reddit.

https://old.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/dqalpe/a_few_highlights_regarding_overwatch_1_vs/

"Jeff just finished the What's Next panel with a few pieces of information regarding the differences between Overwatch 1 and Overwatch 2. I typed up a few key highlights that I'll share with you all. Items in quotes are direct quotes from Jeff (or as direct as possible :p). Overwatch 1 is referred to as Overwatch.

  • Overwatch 2 does not use a new engine. It uses a "heavily upgraded" engine from Overwatch.
  •
  • Custom hero abilities are in Overwatch 2, but exclusive to PvE. Torbjorn has a cool one where the turrets are flamethrowers.
  •
  • All new maps, all new heroes, and all post-launch heroes from Overwatch 2 will be available in Overwatch.
  •
  • Push will be coming to Overwatch.
  •
  • Overwatch and Overwatch 2 will share PvP servers. If you buy Overwatch 2 you can play with Overwatch 1. PvE will be exclusive to Overwatch 2.
  •
  • All skins and other cosmetics from Overwatch will transfer to Overwatch 2 (SR and Level not confirmed)
  •
  • Multiple new heroes will be dropping with Overwatch 2 at launch. Jeff compared it to Overwatch's beta when multiple characters were added at once and the "chaos that ensued".
  •
  • Overwatch 2 will be on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. Someone in the crowd shouted "What about for phones?" and Jeff laughed and said "I totally didn't hear what you said at all".
  •
  • The game is still very early in development. Even the UI is a work in progress.
  •
  • Jeff said "I have no idea" regarding when the game launches. "We don't have a date in mind". They're wanting to work with the community to figure out whats good about the game and what's not good. Jeff said "We're probably going to go dark after Blizzcon", but "there still some cool stuff coming".
  •
  • There are still some cool updates coming to Overwatch 1, but there is not a new Archives event because they're focused on Overwatch 2. The event will still happen and there will still be new skins and cosmetics.
  •
  • You can go to training room, custom games, and a new "waiting for queue" deathmatch mode in a future Overwatch update.

Great write up. Was there any word on cross platform play at all? That's the thing I've been wanting the most as my levels, skins and everything are split between play across all 3 systems

Not that I've seen either live or in the write ups. I think it's safe to assume they're at least looking into it internally if Activision did for the new CoD.

For whatever reason Blizzard seems to be resistant or at least un-receptive to the idea of crossplay/cross-progression. It kind of makes sense with Diablo 3 since the PC version is generally further ahead content-wise, but it makes little sense in Overwatch when they keep all 4 platforms in parity with one another.

The cynical side of me thinks they want to keep progression separate to milk the whales that also are supporting multiple platforms, but that doesn't necessarily mean that cross-play couldn't exist. Hopefully they get their shit together for 2. I'm surprised enough that they it's already announced for Switch, but the fact that it's got crossplay with OW1 could keep it grand-fathered into the no platform crossplay club.

Wonder if the numbered sequel for overwatch rather than DLC has anything to do with next gen consoles being so close. Imagine people that go to next gen wouldn't be too willing to pay for a $60 next gen version of overwatch and paid DLC at the same time rather than just a current gen or next gen version of overwatch 2. I am curious to see the price point versus amount of story missions.

So, we’ll be lucky to get it before the new consoles come out.
The fact that both Xbox Two and PS5 are said to be fully backward compatible makes me think we might see a different landscape from the dual platform releases that were so common at the start of the current gen. I would think the publishers putting out big multiplayer platforms (Overwatch, Destiny, Fortnite) don't necessarily see the need to develop a separate new version if their game is already fully playable on the new console, at least not right away.

This seems even more likely if games can be designed to take advantage of the new configuration like they already are with XB1>XB1X and PS4>PS4Pro, or to a lesser degree Switch Undocked>Docked. This argument applies to virtually every game being developed for the current gen systems still, but it feels like an easier sell for separate versions on single player stuff, rather than a game like Overwatch where people have hundreds or thousands of hours invested already.

I'm sure it is a factor but the unusual release plan for this, along with Diablo 4's announcement, and backpedaling on WoW Classic all feel like with the investor statements or whatever from the past year where Activision said they planned on better utilizing Blizzard's IP. There is just too much here for it all to be Honk Kong damage control.

If this was the Blizzard from a few years ago I feel like this would have guaranteed been an expansion. Honestly I don't think $60 for a next-gen Overwatch would have been hard sell if it was a paid expansion expansion for the old version or a full priced game for newcomers, as long as there was a large chunk of new content. This is sort of a new problem with well supported BC consoles that are so integrated with online, but the real hard sell here is the PC playerbase, which I think is still the majority on this game.

Personally I was a bit burned out on the game but I'd have a hard time arguing with the value I've gotten out of it without ever spending anything beyond my initial purchase.

The alternative I see would have been releasing the PVE stuff as it's own separate release. While there are plenty of people interested enough in the story and characters, there is no way it would have sold nearly as well without PVP. The vibe I'm getting off of general discussion on this reminds me a lot of how people felt about L4D2 when it was announced, though I'm not quite sure why since that was a lot worse as the game was only about a year later.

Here here! If I wanted to watch a FEMALE actor in an action movie, I'll stick to the franchises that made their name from having badass bitches at the forefront; Alien and... Terminator.... hmmmm.....
that's weird i thought the badass was Kyle Reese in the original and the T800 in the sequel, both sacrificed themselves for the "badass bitch"

i guess we watched different movies

Yeah, the original films are my go-to examples of feminist action films. A friend of mine who teaches gender studies uses T2 in her class.

Sometimes an eyeroll is just an eyeroll.
so are most horror films "feminist horror films" since they tend to have a female survivor, often a lone survivor?

I have never gone from hyped (watching Diablo 4 announcement trailer an hour ago) to horrified so quickly...

"Rather than follow the series' usual straightforward level design, Diablo 4 will feature five big, contiguous regions—with a day-night cycle and dynamic weather system—the player can conceivably wander at their own discretion, assuming they have the gear to cut it. More important is the "shared" part of that description. We've yet to hear how many players will be wandering Diablo 4's open world at once, but the point is they'll be wandering with you.

Yep, Diablo is basically an MMO now.

Towns act as social hubs for chatting and grouping up, PvP zones act as seamless ganking areas, and world events spawn big monsters that strangers and teammates can take down together. The world is also apparently big enough to justify the addition of mounts. We'll be able to suit up our horses in armor, perform powerful dismount abilities, and explore the open world at a brisk clip. "

I got an email from Taco Bell earlier today with information on how to get my 14 days of GPU.  It's been a handful of days since I last placed an order through the Taco Bell app, so I guess don't expect an email with the code the same day you place an order:

Sender:  Taco Bell® and Xbox

Subject:  Thanks for buying a $5 Box

I really want to believe Sir Burton is trolling you guys because I do not remember watching those movies. Either that or bruh needs to look up the Mandela Effect

Sounds awesome! I never understood why people kept playing Diablo 3 after defeating the story. This will allow for more replay ability.

We knew a year ago that they were making an MMO in the Diablo world.

Rhykker for example 10 months ago..

You can go back to at least another month prior to Rhykker's vid and see the hints.

**

After you beat the story, the game hasn't even begun yet.. it's the loot chase that get people hooked. Then add in the seasons with the ladders and the seasonal rewards etc.

Edit:

Spoke too soon... Rhykker *2* years ago in March 2017...

Not sure what to explain to you, game hasn't stuck around for 7 years because people just ran the same story content over and over but this time with friends. It's going to be season 19 on new loot in a couple of weeks.

Borderlands certainly didn't get this far on story. Loot games have been a thing for a while. People still play Diablo 2.

Not to mention the best part of seasons is that they let you completely skip the story entirely. TBH I really wanted Diablo 4 to just drop the story altogether or at least let you go to adventure mode (assuming it has it) from the start. Going through the story in these type of games tends to just bore me because the actual gameplay is not even fun until you're at endgame and able to put interesting sets together.

But also it's more complicated than just saying the "loot is the content" anyway, the content is all the systems that make working on a build fun. The game would be nothing without greater rifts, bounties, and the ability to keep optimizing a set nearly forever through stat rerolls and ancient items.
