Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Anyone doing the 10,000 point quest. Just want to give a shout out to Mutant Year Zero. The game is a lot of fun. It's a strategy SRPG but with added exploration and comedy mixed in. Kind of a hidden gem on game pass.
It's quite good. It was also free on Epic Games store a while back.

I would really like to pick up Resident Evil 2 before the sale ends but I am trying to convince myself I don’t need to pad my back log with games I don’t have time for right now. I’m still playing borderlands 3, outer worlds, and Control is on the way. CAG life is complicated sometimes, the desire to buy games on the cheap is strong, but the knowledge that they will get cheaper is ever present.
It makes it a lot easier knowing that many of them wont get cheaper. RE2 will not be cheaper than $15 at least until next Black Friday, but I'd wager it wont until 2 more years at the minimum. Rather by it now and have the ability to play it if I want than want to play it but not have it and it not be on sale.

Old Mans Journey was way easier to finish than Minit since I could play along with the video except for the train sequence and not have to keep pausing like I did with Minit.

Vizio 36" 5.1.4, new for this year. $699 retail, Lightning Deal at $380. Watching Pacific Rim and it's definitely more intense. It's actually rumbling a bit much for me and I might need to adjust more. Going to download Insects again for a controllable demo.

I'm upgrading from the 36" 5.1 I've had for at least 3 years now. The front bar has the normal left/center/right, as well as left and right height speakers between them. Rear speakers connect to wireless sub that is beefier than the old one. This one can probably be had for $100 this time of year. Upgrading from TV speakers to actual surround can be one of the biggest upgrades you can make and wireless rear makes it easy.

I have no shame about finishing Fallen Order on Story difficulty, but I do want to go back again now that I'm better. I wish there was a boss fight option. Let me fight on hard with my toys.

I haven’t bought anything yet thanks to my backlog and gamepass but there are two I’m trying to pick between. How is No Man’s Sky now? Is it fun just playing solo? The other I’m considering is Spyro Re-Ignited. I am terrible with difficult platform era like Mega Man but like the laid back type.

Playing this one myself tonight to hit the 500 points required for the first leg of that Rewards quest. Once the work week starts tomorrow, I won't be able to keep my eyes open to do it. I got some of the other points from Guacamelee 2 and Yooka Laylee yesterday.

RE7 is easily worth $15, I paid that over a year ago and don't regret it.

Made it through the first two planets in Fallen Order (obv. not 100% on the maps though). It's really, really good. Combat is punishing if you aren't patient. It really is like Tomb Raider with a lightsaber plus more involved fighting, which IMHO is not a bad thing.

Some of the character models do seem pretty lacking in detail or like early gen stuff, but the environments and world are really detailed and nice to look at.

Started Outer Worlds tonight.  Got to the first companion, or at least the first companion option I ran across.

Picked up Contra Collection and RE2 from the Black Friday sale.  Will probably get the Shantae stuff and Guacamelee 2 from the weekly sales.  Might bite on a few other things.

fuck yeah

I Know it's wrong to judge people on what they buy since it's their money and all, but goddamn do I cringe whenever I see people willingly buy recent releases on DVD. I Just legit wonder what their life is like at home and how much do they hate their eyes.

And tomorrow I'm holding out the faintest of hopes for cheap Bing credit before I pull the trigger on my last two things for my XBox marketplace purchases.

Well, I cashed out Bing points for $50 XBL funny money tonight. If that on top of Euripides $230 cash out doesn't trigger a credit hot deal, nothing will.

My parents in-law still have a tube tv and vcr in the living room. Some people just want to watch the world burn.

DVDs don't really look as bad people remember, especially with most players sold now upcaling everything to 4K. It's kind of like how people are constantly saying that a current gen game with sub-par graphics looks like a PS2 game. I do think the should be much cheaper though. It's crazy to me that someone would buy a new DVD for $18 when the Blu-ray is $2-5 more and it includes that same DVD copy and digital.

People who buy DvDs in general are insane. Why people want to watch a movie more than once is beyond my thought comprehension, especially when they consider $8+!!!! a deal. Absolutely insane. Either splurge and go watch it in a movie theater for a nice experience, or watch them while they're literally free with your cable subscription.

This was a few years back, but I used to play trivia regularly in the college town I lived in. (You can probably guess which town that was!) That city is a pretty well-appointed one, but go 45 minutes to an hour in basically any direction and things like Internet connection and even cable service start getting dicey, and you're probably not going to have a local movie theater.

My team got friendly enough with the host of those trivia nights that we'd chat him up between rounds and after games, and at one point he revealed to us that he was partway through some cable drama (...maybe Dexter? Or Game of Thrones?) that he was watching on Netflix ... via the mailed DVDs. Turns out he lived a ways outside of town, and so didn't have cable or good enough Internet to reliably stream anything, so Netflix by mail was how he got his TV. And this was in 2015 or 2016!

I'm also a person who rarely watches movies more than once (maybe I'll revisit something a few years later), and my own DVD/Blu-Ray collection is small, mostly stuff bought on deep discounts from Black Fridays past or sales from Blockbuster's dying days. But I remember that guy telling us about this with no shame because that's just how life was for him, and it was a good reminder to me that not everyone lives like I do.

I watch Christmas Vacation and Elf at least 5 times around Christmas every year.
Oh yeah same here, and The Santa Claus, Home Alone 1&2, A Christmas Story, and we added Daddy’s Home 2 to that lineup. I’ve probably watched LOTR 100 times and the Batman Dark Knight movies at least 50 times.

Now there’s an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one
Free with your $80 a month subscription. It’s as good as the free Xbox with your $1200 jewelry purchase.

Elf's great but my point is is that if you pay for cable, it's literally on at least once a day across the 5+ channels that play it this time of year. No need to watch it on DVD. But that's kind of a bad movie to argue on since you can probably find it for $2 now.

My problem is the people who are considering $8 DvDs a "deal", and then there are others who literally pay full price for when it comes out for like $20!

If you argue for something like Gamepass (not saying you, but just in general), then you cant argue against my point. Paying for cable gives you access to things so you DONT have to actually pay for them individually. Just like cable. You're paying for a service that allows you to streams these things so that you DONT have the need to go out and buy them.

And dont get me started on people who buy TV series' on disc. That's almost enough reason to get sent to an asylum.

I argue that PAYING for game pass is a good value, however I would never argue that anything on Gamepass is free, it’s included with your fee just like movies on cable are included with your fee. Now to get technical, many of us have Gamepass for 3 years for pennies on the dollar of the $15/month price due to the upgrade from Gold for a dollar conversion, but it’s still not free.

Some could argue that Games With Gold are “free” since many of us were paying for Gold to play online before GWG started.

I just purchased 25 4k movies. They look and sound better than anything I can stream or watch on cable. I also have two Elite controllers, the entire Project Rock collection from Under Armour, and about 80 pairs of shoes. I have a problem

I must be crazy to have bought Ducktales and Batman: The Animated Series years before they were available to stream. Get the straight jacket because I own Firefly and Transformers Generation 1 too.

Within one's economic means, I think it's crazy not to purchase at least a few of your favorite shows or movies, whether physical media or digitally.  No way do I want to be at the mercy of the cable company when it comes to re-watching a personal favorite with a new friend, bringing it on vacation, or whatever.   I have a modest collection of media, and in no way regret purchasing them.

New Xbox One X owner here, my console is showing up on Tuesday, and I got the $10 from Microsoft just sitting on my account. Any must play Xbox One games for $10 or less? Or, should I just spend it on a digital Xbox 360 game?

Anyone else had issues with dl'd games mysteriously disappearing off your Xbox 360?

Hooked mine up last night to redeem the Ducktales Remastered code I ordered on Amazon and after a system update, I realized my downloads for TMNT 1989 Arcade and Marvel vs Capcom 2 were missing from the hard drive.  Which I know they were there last time I had the system set up.  Thankfully, those two are still available in my download history.

Also, been noticing my gamerscore hasn't been syncing up right between my Xbox One and Xbox 360.   360 and profile online show up right, but on XB1 is 80 pts. behind.

If this is the first dabbling you've had in the current gen, I can't recommend Titanfall 2 enough. It's $5, just do it.

I also have a PlayStation 4 Pro, and apparently we are getting that free this month with PlayStation Plus, but thank you for the recommendation. Honestly, I mainly got the Xbox One X as a 4K Blu Ray player, and to play my old 360 and Original Xbox games because my 360 just died. The only Xbox One X game that I am truly interested in at the moment is Phantasy Star Online 2, but that doesn't come out until the spring of next year. So, I thought it would be nice to find some other games to distract me until then.

In that case, just get Game Pass and play Forza Horizon 4, Halo, and whatever else is on there. Most MS exclusives are on there now. Gears 2 is enhanced, Ori and the Blind Forest is amazing if you don't mind getting your ass kicked a little, Sunset Overdrive was a lot of fun.

I actually have a 1 month trial for Game Pass if you want it (doesn't work for current subscribers so it's of no use to me). If you already have XBL Gold then it's better to just upgrade your subscription ATM.

I really wish you would stop assuming you understand enough about mental Illness to make the statements you make first off but secondly how about STFU? You don't know why anybody buys or rewatches movies or TV box sets but as someone who just slimmed down a 1500 title physical collection, let me help you. It's none of your damn business!

You are really starting to vibe like the lunatic who popped in and screamed about physical buyers killing digital, oil, murderers and shit. That cable comment was hilarious btw

At 43, I fully approved that "Ok Boomer" comment from earlier comments too. I felt that one deep

I really, really hate myself for doing this, but it just has to be done..."Ok, Boomer".

Who the fuck has cable these days?
Old people. Like my mom and my father in law. They both know how streaming works, and use it regularly (Netflix) but both stubbornly refuse to give up cable. I bought my FIL a Roku for Father's Day to ease his transition (over using his TV's clunky built in streaming) and it is still in the box (and still paying $200 a month for cable/internet). I've explained in detail how they only need Internet service yet they still have cable because that is what they are used to.

Same with in-laws. He gets off work late so watches maybe one hour of TV a night but still pays $200 plus for cable just cause he refuses to learn how to navigate sling, or any other service.

Speaking of buying physical Blu-rays. Whats up with Marvel Studios Phase 3? It's split into two parts at $74 each, which the price is on par with the first two phases that wasn't split, also 3 comes without all the cool physical stuff and what's more problematic  for me is no digital copies are included. What gives?

DVDs don't really look as bad people remember, especially with most players sold now upcaling everything to 4K. It's kind of like how people are constantly saying that a current gen game with sub-par graphics looks like a PS2 game. I do think the should be much cheaper though. It's crazy to me that someone would buy a new DVD for $18 when the Blu-ray is $2-5 more and it includes that same DVD copy and digital.
I Just remember watching Django on DVD about a year back and compared to blu/digital and the coloring just looked muddy. Though some animated series seem to benefit more into going into blu like colors appear much more vibrant. The only movie I still think stands out picture quality wise on DVD that I remember watching recently is probably Terminator 2, but then again that movie is as close to perfect as you can get.
