Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

Comcast called and threatened to cancel our internet service because I was downloading too many games with Game Pass. Apparently I did about 600gb in a single day, and we only get 1tb a month for about $80. My mom lied and told the woman that we were hacked. The Comcast lady suggested that we get their "unlimited" internet service for the low price of $110 a month. Screw that.
Don't they usually just use that as an excuse to charge you more money? Verizon loves when you hit your limit and charge $15 per GB after.

When the next gen rolls out, 1TB per month will sound downright quaint.

mines about 80 a month without a cap

but it's country net so it would take me a week to download what you did in a day so the lack of speed works as a cap lol

Yeah. I don't really appreciate them calling and harassing my mom. She's not super tech savvy, so she came into my room screaming about how we were hacked.

So switch. Why pay $80 for crap? That’s like $70 savings damn. AT&T doing something nice? Read the fine print lol.

The only fine print I saw, was that if you go over the 1tb, you have to pay another $10 for every extra 50gb that you download. Even if you go 1gb over the 1tb, you have to pay the extra $10. But, still even $20 is better than $80. I just have to research and see if we can get it. Comcast has a monopoly in my area for Cable service. They might have one for internet as well.

Sounds like a sweet deal. Hope you can get it. Where I’m building my new house some no name company has the rights so their prices are insane. I pay $70 for unlimited 1gbps fiber. They charge $80 for 25/5. $200 for gigabit fiber. I’m planning to invest in Vaseline for the future.

Any X owners do you have trouble downloading games remotely on Xbox app when making a purchase or getting a gwg? Ever since I got my X it won't let me download games from Xbox app.I can do it from the game pass app but not the Xbox app.
If you have multiple Xbox One's running in the house check the settings to make sure it's trying to install to the correct console. I have to change mine every freaking time because my "home" Xbox is not the one I use so that our roommate can piggyback onto my gold.

I also have trouble installing on my X.

I've yet to find an explanation of why bandwidth and transfer cost the way they do other than sheer greed.

None of us finish our games. The true game is padding the backlog for you will never win.

The special bonus for today in Sea of Thieves, is double xp for the Order of Souls faction. There is also a voyage in your stash to help boost that alliance once you vote on that quest. I assume it makes even more skeleton lords/captains appear when you raid said island on your map......if you're already at level 50, today is pretty meh. Wouldn't be surprised if Rare has a few more days focusing on double xp for Merchant Alliance and Gold Hoarder factions then. Maybe even Sea Dog and Hunters Call too

I got the X to replace the S and on the S it would remote install and everything. Now my S is stored in my closet and only my X is out and set to home console.

How many games a year does one need to finish in order to keep video games as a hobby? I only really played Forza Horizon 4 all year and did not care to finish any of the new releases that came out. Do I need to get rid of my Xbox now? Also, I do not play mobile games at all, do I have to give away my phone?
You aren't constantly posting that video games suck nowadays like the poster I was responding to does.

Does anyone have experience with the "Microsoft Complete" program?  It appears to be a 3 year warranty sold directly by Microsoft and you can get it for controllers at a seemingly reasonable price.  I wouldn't normally do it, but my kids have had trouble with the Elite Series 1 and now they want the Series 2, so I was thinking of getting it.  Is it worth it?  I already bought one controller a few weeks ago.  Can I still buy the warranty from Microsoft?

Surprised they would cancel the service. I thought they would either limit your speed or charge you for over-usage.

I tried EVERYTHING to get remote install to work on my S, and the only thing that worked was registering the serial number in my Microsoft account. Then it suddenly showed up in both apps as an option. I would make sure you registered the X.

Screw that.
Wow, really? Not trying to defend Comcast but for my 1 TB capped plan, they offer 2 courtesy months of usage (per 12 month period, resets if you don't go over 3 times). Kind of surprised they outright said they'd cancel your service.

I thought that policy may have differed based on the level of competition Comcast has in an area, but that seems standard.

I can see 600 GB in a day triggering a warning call, but threatening outright cancellation seems extreme, particularly for a first time offense.

Competition does appear to play a role in which areas have a cap.

I'm in the Baltimore / DC area, and neither Maryland nor Northern Virginia (opposed to Southwest Virginia) have caps. I have other options, so Comcast needs to remain competitive. Virginia is the only state with Verizon Fios where Comcast has a cap, and Fios coverage may only be available up near DC, hence the SW VA cap. A bit surprised California and Texas have caps, but if a state is effectively carved up into Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, etc., markets, then they can pull that stuff. A couple Comcast cap states have areas served by Google Fiber. I wonder if Comcast serves those areas, if they just pulled out or are serving people that won't hit the cap or don't research their options.

I moved from an area with no competition and a data cap. Was often paying overage to Cox. Now I'm in an area with 3+ options and none have data caps.

Are you constantly going over your cap?

I use 3-4 tb a month so I have no choice but to pay the extra 50 a month.

I monitor my data usage in the Xfinity app and have not went over my data cap in over a year.

I see where I'm at with a few days to go in the month then if I have the room that's when download stuff from Gamepass or otherwise. And do all my updates also.

Obviously I wish I could just download and use as much data as I wanted but in a small town with no competition I have no choice but to play their game

Started playing breakpoint and even though its obviously a bad game, its much better than control or RE2.

Shows how poor this year was. Good thing outer worlds and to a lesser extent sekiro saved us

This console generation is coming to an end. What do you expect?

Exact same here. I had about 400 GB last month and FORGOT to get caught up on downloads. Very dissappointed in myself.

Also, I had the same cap in Atlanta with Comcast. Technically, it was a different account and the cap started at 600GB (or 400??) when they sneakily started it without me knowing. It was probably in small print in an obscure link on my account page or something. Anyway, I didn't know I had a cap until I was notified I went over it. It was changed to 1TB a few months later. When I moved they technically closed my old account and opened a new one because I moved a few states over. Yet, I still have one strike on my cap limits so I get two more strikes and then I have to start paying for overages.

Who fed it after midnight again? 😂

Edit: Comcast, 2 courtesy overages and we get emails. They had a deal to add the xfi advantage and get no cap for 10 bucks extra which I'm okay with because I stream everything now so that 1TB was stretched a few times

Question about all the “point and click” style adventure games out there these days (the Telltale games, etc)... am I playing them wrong, or do they lack the charm and challenge of the old PC point and clicks, like the LucasArts games (Maniac Mansion and so on)?

I keep trying them because people say they’re great, but I find the puzzles lacking and the stories fairly dull and forgettable. I’ve played the first two Walking Dead games, Tales From The Borderlands, Life is Strange 1, and I just started LiS2 for TA’s 12 Days of Christmas. They’ve all felt like a slog, and the only moment I remember from any of them is the “shootout” in Borderlands, which was actually one of the funniest moments in any game I’ve ever played.

Do I just need to go back to telling kids to get off my lawn?

The life is strange games are GARBAGE. Havent heard much positive things about the walking dead either so I think you just picked the wrong ones. The Wolf Among Us is telltales best game by far, and I've heard the batman one is pretty good too.

I think they lack the charm of those old games you mentioned.

Point and click is the most tired genre there is, NO ONE understands the wit and charm of the old Sierra and LucasArts games anymore.

The only ones I can think that were kind of good were the Agatha Knife games, but DAMN they were plagued with some edgelord writing. Give me Willie Beamish any day of the week over today's stuff.

I have 25mb from centurylink, no cap, $45 a month including taxes and everything. It’s not fast but it’s better then laying Cox $120+ for 150mb with no cap

I'm quite fond of the Telltale Sam and Max games. I'd be all over a new point and click adventure from those characters.

Anyone out there played Phantasmagoria back in the day?

Thanks for the reminder. I own that on Steam but still haven't gotten to it yet. I played the first one back in the 90s. Figured out the uncensored code:)
Man, I haven't played it since the mid 90's or something. I just remember it being gruesome as hell but that might just be 13 year old me freaking out, haha.

Edit: If it's on Steam I might go pick that up now.

Yea last time I played it I was in my teen's too! One of the first PC games that I played along with Police Quest, Kings Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry. Our first family computer.

When I saw them advertised during a Seam sale, I had to have them. It was pretty gruesome. My little brother and I loved it haha.

I'm really curious to play Breakpoint once I get through a few other games because it got universally ragged on, yet these fools ate up Jedi when it would have been given the scores it deserved if not for the Star Wars title to carry it.

Its really just a mixture of Far Cry 3 and The Divison but with noticeable bugs or things that make you say "What the fuck?"
