Dead Rising 4 dropped to half off in less than 3 weeks.  Came out December 6, Best Buy had it on sale December 26 for 29.99 (23.99 after GCU) and it came with a zombie mistletoe ornament too.

It wasn't 2 weeks but it was quickly in the $35 range, and yeah, Dead Rising 4 got ludicrously low very quickly, although it didn't stay there. I see it less of a trend and more a symptom of competing in a holiday market with lots of insane sales and other, bigger franchises. Even CoD dropped lower than usual over the holidays for a new release (although not as quickly as the others).

A lot of these games have long-term strategies for keeping players engaged (DLC, free MP content) which theoretically means fewer used copies in the wild, and publishers obviously want us to buy their games new. Publishers are probably losing money on the initial sale and hoping for a long-term cash flow, in addition to building brands/franchises.

 
Think it was just a week after release when I got Dead Rising 4 digital from Newegg for $35.99. Hadn't even planned on buying it.

I most definitely got more new releases this holiday season than any other that I can think of due to all of the early, deep discounts.

Okay, so there are games that drop for sales pretty quickly and I buy maybe 3 games at launch any given year, anyway. But even then I'm using GCU and paying $48 and it's only for stuff I'm really looking forward to. My point stands though, it's ridiculous to call someone dumb for not spending their money how you'd like them to. We all have our price points for certain titles.

Anyway, here's hoping for some good sales!

IMO. Buying anything the day it comes out is dumb unless you have a discount for getting it early that you may not see at a lower price for months or years. By getting games later, the developers also fix a lot of the issues. For example, I loved AC:U because it was all fixed by the time I played it.

 
Ubisoft titles are NOTORIOUS for dropping their price and 1st party titles, excluding Nintendo, during the holidays more than likely have huge discounts because they want you on their gaming network and buying the DLC, DwG, micro transactions within the game.

Omg speaking of networks, Verizon just went unlimited plans today and it just changed on my phone, had called and got it changed - was on their XXL Plan royally getting screwed in "safety mode" - around noon, and I'm now downloading my big retail titles on my Xbox One via mobile hotspot!!! Today's a good day.

I agree. Some people just somehow need to "beat the rush". What's the rush really?! In this day and age, who doesn't have a 5-10... or 50 backlogs to play while waiting for the newly released to be added to the backlog during sales. ;) Granted, there are some games I would "need" to buy at launch because I'm a big fan of those developers but they are far and few, like once every 2+ years. All other games, I would just wait for a month which is usually the time you'll see a $20 drop on them. And you can wait longer for further drops depending on your interests for the games.

I'd watch those "unlimited" plans. Alot of them will give you so many gigs at high-speed and then throttle your data for the rest of the month. Read the fine print! Here's hoping that doesn't happen!

Don't you only get 10 GB to use via hotspot before it gets throttled? And does that count towards the 22 GB each month that they will throttle you after as well?
 
Not to derail the thread, but apparently CI Games had a "change of heart" and now the XB1 version of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 will include the season pass when pre-ordering. This was announced a couple of weeks back for PS4 and PC only.

However, late last Sunday, someone asked Phil Spencer about it on twitter and said he had no idea what was behind it all and would ask since he didn't like it.

It seems Uncle Phil used some sort of Jedi mind shit for some good ol' parity. JA!

Soooo.....Dead Island Definite Edition. If I can't find a co-op partner, is it worth playing solo? I get the feeling without someone to mess about in the world with it would get super boring really quick.

Same for AT&T. To qualify for unlimited you have to have DIRECTV and combine billing. They allow 22gb before they "may" throttle down the speed to 128kb. I have the 3GB plan and if I go over they throttle my speed to 128kb, last month I was still able to use 10.6GB, and yes 7.6GB was on 128kb speed.

NBC did, too, but hotspotting wasn't mentioned and it often has different rules besides the standard 22GB usage rule Verizon has.

It's worth playing solo for a few hours but yeah, you definitely want a co-op partner if you want to play through both games and get all the achievements. Dead Island Riptide is a copy paste expansion to the original Dead Island so monotony will hit you hard with this game.

For what it's worth, it's pretty easy for randoms to join your game (or vice versa) so having 2-4 players is never really an issue.

The brass tax is network priority will take place after 22GBs on a congested network (ah yeah we have more deer then people here prob). Considering it's cheaper than the XXL Plan I was on and safety mode under that didn't even have enough to load images on Imgur for instance (loads maybe a min Larry, forget gifs or videos working).

Wow, lots of games. Gotta look over the list again. If you're planning on buying Xcom it's definitely worth it to go digital deluxe. The extra dlc content is really good. Just beat the game this weekend actually
 
What's the consensus on FFXV?  I've heard it's really good... just wondering if it's worth it at that price to sit in the backlog?

I don't know if I've ever seen it on sale. Maybe 25% off at some point. Minecraft is consistently a top selling game, so there's not much incentive to discount it other than being nice to customers. They need to make those billions back. Story mode has only recently started going on sale digitally I think, I can't imagine it sells as well.
