Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Lololol @ the 1 being a "slight" upgrade from the 360. Shit like Arkham Knight and Gears Of War UE would never look that beautiful on that system.
My comments were specifically about gameplay experiences, not graphics. No disagreement that the current gen is beautiful, the first time I fired up an X1 game I was astonished by the visuals (it was the Doom demo, since I'd just got the system).

I like my Xbox One and it looks fine, but when I compare the gap between the xbox and xbox 360, the step to the xbox one doesn't seem as big of a jump. I can understand it being called a slight upgrade.
Precisely. The jump from PS1 to PS2, from PS2 to PS3, felt enormous each time. The jump from PS-360 to the current gen felt less enormous.

I had originally said I wanted to beat 50 games this year, but I think I'm gonna shoot for 100. Already beat Halo Wars Definitive, CoD Infinite Warfare, Escape Dead Island, Walking Dead Michonne and Superhot. The short games still definitely count, and I have a bunch of them, so I plan on taking advantage of that.
100 is a hefty goal, at least for me. I've been tracking my progress in a spreadsheet by title/platform/date completed. Come 2018 I might be able to up the ante and shoot for 100 myself. I'd be curious to see where you stand later this year. Wish you luck.

Do you think it's because there was a longer generation gap this time than the usual? I mean, should there have been an enormous difference since the time between systems was the longest yet?

I'm not complaining... the graphical upgrade blew me away at first, but I get what they mean about gameplay experience. I think the social sharing aspect is what next-gen is focusing on besides graphics.

I've game shared on both and here's my breakdown:

:360: Buying from console: That console gets a license at time of purchase. Any gamertags on that console, even added later, can play offline. Your account owns the game/dlc/movie, so you can play it anywhere you're signed in.

:360: Buying from website: First console to start the download gets the console license, see above.

Pros: Can gameshare with as many people as you're willing to share login info and coordinate downloads with.

Cons: Purchasing things at 3am means you get the console license or you have to use the website (no spacebucks) and remain offline until you coordinate gamesharing.

:xb1: The first xbone you login to is automatically set as your home, and you can change it 3x per year or as much as you want (can't recall). Your home xbone can play any of your content offline, using any gamertag. You can access your purchases from anywhere else that you're signed into. There is no console license, there are account designated home consoles.

Pros: You setup your home console once, and they never have to login as you again to get access your xbl gold sub and all purchased content. You could even change your password and they retain access.

Cons: You can only ever have one home xbox, so you can only gameshare with one console at a time.
Thanks for the info. Would you happen to know if Xbox 360 BC games are game sharable on the Xbox One?

I think the platform longevity definitely has something to do with it. Compare Uncharted 1 (launch era) to The Last of Us (near end of gen). UC1 isn't a bad looking game, but TLoU sapped every ounce of power out of the PS3. Or compare the original Gears of War to Halo 4. Halo 4 looks incredible for a 360 game.

Or even GTAIV to GTAV. The leap in graphics and fine-tuning of experiences within the same gen / on the same platform is really quite impressive. So in terms of gameplay experiences, I don't feel like the current gen is offering a whole lot that the last gen wasn't doing or wouldn't be capable of. Obviously they look nicer. But, visuals only get you so far. That said, I'm very much enjoying what MS is doing with new hardware, OS, connectivity, etc. too.

Seriously?

Titanfall on the 360 looked worse and played worse, serious frame rate issues, compared to its Xbox One successor.

Forza Motorsport 5 & 6
Batman: Arkham City
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Gears of War: UE
Titanfall 1 & 2

^^^ EXACTLY! on the games part not the drugs since my virgin lungs are still going strong.Anyways after playing AC IV on xbox 1 i have been craving more AC games and thinking on giving ACIII a whirl.Dont bash me for it sonce i know its one of the low games of the series.
If you have a 360, play Rogue instead.

It's a lot like AC IV and the story is surprisingly good.

There's a huge gap in FH1 and FH 2/3.  Not so much in FM4 to FM5.  5 felt like it was rushed to make launch and it's harder to feel such a big difference with the constraints of a track although framerate and number of cars on a track were definitely improved.  The Horizon games though? Wow, what a big difference and no way FH2 could have been done on the 360.  The separately developed 360 version of FH2 is sort of proof of that with so much left out although it was missing aspects of FH1 as well for some unknown reason.  The number of players in Battlefield shows the power difference, too.

All that said the 360 is still very playable and enjoyable.  Definitely not the same gap from og Xbox to 360.

BC games are sharable following both 360 and xbone rules. They are 360 games after all, so they follow those rules for sharing. On the xbone, all content* depends solely on home console settings.

*You can't share cash to token economies (Smite gems, ESO gold, sportball whatevers, BF battlepacks, etc). DLC you can buy directly with cash/paypal/spacebucks from Microsoft is shareable, DLC you buy in game from tokens you buy with cash are not.

Did anyone get Rise and Shine? Curious for more opinions on it.
Yes. It is great. It is challenging in that you will die a lot. But you learn with each death. Looks great, too. Everything is hand drawn, no two things in the environment look the same. Tons of video game references and Easter eggs, too. (Surprised how many people are passing this one by. It was shown on the MS stage during E3 2015.)

The games on X1 are great, but I would have an X1 these days just for the apps. I have an app for all of my sports channels. I rarely turn on the cable box unless something is on CBS.

More than half of those you shouldn't be proud to announce...
Oh, you know it. Plenty more questionable titles still in the backlog sadly...

I've played my share of bad games for easy gamerscore and the CSI games are among the worst if not at the top of the list themselves.
Of this last batch I'd say it's a toss-up between CSI and Jurassic Park as to which I enjoyed least. CSI was drudgery but the QTE's in Jurassic were way too strict.

I find that pushing through backlog trash games makes the AAA titles even better when you make time for them. I played a bunch of crap for like a month before I finally sat down with the Tomb Raider reboot and was just blown away by it. I mean I know it's great anyway, but enjoying it after a backlog palate cleanser made the experience even better.
Good to hear. I've a ton of great titles still to play, RotTR among them, so lots to look forward to.

Clearing the backlog a bit is also turning out to be its own reward, sort of like Spring cleaning!

Yeah, it's gonna be tough, I'll have to average 8.5 games a month. Feel confident I'll be able to hit around 10-11 this month. The biggest thing is not getting too focused on games that can't really be beat and are a huge time sink like Destiny

Prime members... save 20% on the PC version of Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition. Comes with a digital copy of HW2 for XB1. ($63.99 instead of $79.99) Only way to get a discount on the digital version of the game.

Oddly enough, a handful of those games were on 360 and were perfectly good. Rise of the Tomb Raider, for example, looks and plays wonderfully on the 360, and they released all the DLC, too - the game wasn't compromised in any significant way. Graphics aside, Dragon Age is perfectly playable too (although they did abandon last gen for some DLC).

I don't think anyone is saying there's no difference. X1 is clearly the superior platform and better experience. Everyone that's commented on this is comparing it to the leap from previous console generations.

Going from Xbox to Xbox 360 was like VHS to DVD - a huge difference. Go back and play the original Halo 2, you know you're playing on really old hardware. Fire up Halo 3, though, and that game still looks very good despite not having the same graphical fidelity we've grown accustomed to. 360 to X1 was like DVD to Bluray for me - noticeably better and I prefer it, but less of a leap as it was from the prior gen.

Titanfall on the 360 was farmed out to a secondary team and received nowhere near the care and attention the newer gen version did. Not that they'd be on par if they put all their effort into the 360 version, but the gap would certainly be less significant.

That's a weird name for a cat. Also cats are the worst. And fortunately for you and you're oddly named cat, I don't think Darby is into bestiality, just veggies
Technically my girlfriends cat, but pretty sure I'm his favorite. I do agree it's an odd name for a cat.

Played an hour or so of he Power Rangers game, fun enough but was a little disappointed there wasn't more audio pulled from the show. Minor item. That and the lack of online co-op is a little irritating.

I had an ex with a cat named pickles. I swear she said she pulled it from a TV Show or Movie, though can't remember where.

definitely odd cat name. my two cats are named asshole and dipshit - pretty normal names for cats.
All of you who think Pickles is a weird name for a cat clearly missed out on a classic children's book.

Quick update on my 2017 goal to work on my backlog. Recently completed:

- History Channel Civil War Secret Missions
- Night at the Museum
- CSI: Hard Evidence
- Rango
- The Walking Dead: Season 2
- Jurassic Park
- Generator Rex

Of course, no idea why I even bought some of these in the first place, except that they must have been a good deal!
I thought you were listing favorite movies and tv shows you finally got to watch. Lol

To be fair Bluepoint did the port of Titanfall 360 and they have worked magic. See there list of games here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluepoint_Games . They have done a bang up job on all their ports and they are hired specifically for ports and remasters.

I own the game on the 360, and while the graphics had to get scaled back to even work on the 360 it still runs quite well - as long as you keep it locked at 30fps. There's a 30fps cap option to enable and the game basically plays exactly like it would on X1 albeit 30fps. There's also a uncapped frame rate option but then it runs at 30fps one point and at another close to 60 fps. It's pretty crazy.

I even played a game last week for a few laughs and still saw that close to 200+ people were playing online.

If anyone is interested eBay copies usually go for under $5-$6 shipped and all the DLC has been free. Not sure when they are shutting down servers.

Also MGS5 and Tomb Raider: Rise of the Tomb Raider are shockingly good ports on the 360 all things considered. Tomb Raider even has better input lag and gun aiming then the X1 port had.

Tomb Raider was honestly one of the best ports I ever played. It looks good, the frames are stable (with barely any dips, enough in action-packed areas), and as far as I know, nothing up until the recently DLC was cut from it.

Let's see how many more times this can be mentioned today. I feel like I will post it in the 4-5 pm (mountain standard) slot, you guys will have to fill in the rest
Sorry, I missed it on the previous page, as I jumped right to this one.

It's better to mention it twice than not at all.

We are just doing the marketing Microsoft refuses to do.

By the way, you can buy the PC version of Halo Wars 2 UE, which has actual install discs, for $63.99 on Amazon. This includes the remaster of Halo Wars 1 and is a play anywhere title! So you can play it on your Xbox One or PC.

I can feel myself wanting to buy Injustice 2's Moar Expensive Edition, but I know that, as a CAG, I shouldn't. Even worse, I'd really like to buy it digitally. What's happening to me?

Re: Backlog, I've got a spreadsheet, too. Backlogs are kind of interesting depending on how you define them. I've got games on there that I've played and lost interest in before beating, games that can't really be beaten (sports, etc.), games that I've beaten but want to run through again, and of course, all those tasty cheap games (and GWG) I never got around to playing. I also have a section for games that I never really stop playing because I play them with certain friends, etc. Or something like Pinball FX2...I don't really play it that often, but it's not something you really finish.

Hey, man...everything counts! I remember getting the achievements for NatM during the height of my achievement whoring days. I played a lot worse stuff during that time, lol. That game wasn't that bad.

I set a goal to complete four games a month for 2017. So far I got two down, 999 and Hue. While Hue isn't that big of a game it still qualifies towards the goal and trying to chew through the backlog. Looking at putting Resident Evil 7 on the list as well.
Four games per month is pretty good. I don't have a set goal, but I think my main focus will have to be just buying less than the number I finish. GWG and BC don't help, although if I play a GWG game and don't like it, I'll just toss it aside and never play it again without feeling bad. I'll make more of an effort for something I actually paid for.

definitely odd cat name. my two cats are named asshole and dipshit - pretty normal names for cats.
My cats are named Rampage and Shogun, after MMA fighters. They're both like 7-8 years old, so I gave them those names when Rampage and Shogun were still good, lol.

I also never had an issue with Titanfall on the 360. I'm currently playing it now on the Xbox One, and I can definitely tell that it looks better, but if you played the game on the 360 it functions fine and was nice that it basically received the same support of DLC and expansion with Frontier Defense. I hate when lower generation games get abandoned like that.

It is disappointing to see that both games have really poor facial animations on the characters when they talk in the HUD during campaign or to alert you about your Titan being ready.

It's a cheaper way of getting digital Halo Wars 1 HD.
And also a way of getting the SP at a discount.

Why are people stating that "BC is dead"? Was there some sort of announcement that I missed?
Because back in Dec. one guy said it was dead because they were quiet for a few weeks or something and now no one else will let it go and now most of the posts about it being dead are dripping with sarcasm.

They will never announce it, but the program has become inconsistent in the last couple weeks. The program is winding down, albeit slowly. They will likely keep it going until they get 500 titles before making it a monthly/occasional feature (essentially leaving it dead). Some publishers are clearly being dicks with games. Plus we're not going to see expired or dead licenses, old sports, or kinect games. That coupled with some publishers holding back, really limits the titles remaining, especially once they surpass 500.
