This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I'll be getting the wolf among us season pass and Mafia 2. Mafia 2 is such a great game. I always wanted a Mafia 3.

I'd recommend Crysis 3. It was free on PS Plus this month and I've been playing the hell out of the multiplayer it's really fun.

Looks like Microsoft listened to me. Got my internet working again after three weeks of inactivity and I see these wonderful prices on good games.

If you don't own it already, buy Plants vs. Zombies. To this day, I'm still playing it and the sequel [via tablet] and years later it's lots of fun. You can't go wrong for $4.94.

Four games for under $10 is a good deal for the Twisted Pixel bundle. The Maw and Comic Jumper are my two favorites, although gameplay in Jumper gets repetitive. It's pretty funny though.

Mafia 2, Spec Ops: The Line, Dead Island, Ninja Turtles, and the Fallout series are all good for reasons mentioned earlier.  I will admit that I have the Fallout games on disc since they take a lot of GB on the hard drive (about 5 GB each IIRC).

With all of that said, I'm picking up Shadow Complex since I'm a fan of side scrollers. I would get Far Cry 3, but I'm the type that would rather play games in order so I'm waiting for a sale on Far Cry 2 instead. Then again, I seem to recall a Far Cry compilation disc existing so maybe I'll wait for a price drop on that instead.

Speaking of games in order, I beat Halo 2 a few weeks ago. Should I play Halo 3 ODST or Halo Reach next?

If you're following the story, ODST takes place before 3, and actually during events of 2. If you're playing for updates and game changes, play Halo 3 first. ODST adds and removes weapons and items from 3, which may be odd to go back from. I know it seems wrong to put it that way, as the Halo games change with each release, but, for example, the pistol in ODST is a great weapon, while in Halo 3 it's awful. Another change is the VISR, which will be weird to not have in Halo 3. You could be confused with combat because of the setup, and how the health system versus the shield system works. Since you've just played Halo 2, the style of that game is much more similar to Halo 3, so it should be easier to get into.

It's also worth noting that Halo: Reach is the earliest story for the game (ignoring Halo Wars). It also takes a lot more influence from the style of ODST, so if you like ODST (style-wise), you should like Reach. Noting all of that, it actually works a bit better to play it last, for both story and style. If you do play those games, and have Live, definitely ask for help as the games are much more fun in Cooperative.

---

I guess most people are now aware that Ascend: Hand of Kul has been delisted. It can still be played, but the servers for it will go down in November, making it unplayable. Yet another Xbox 360 free-to-play game being dropped around a year later.

Save often. I really like it and put hundreds of hours into it on PC, but man, on 360 it likes to freeze when going through doors before it gets a chance to auto save sometimes which can get annoying and break the immersion.

Edit: For reference, my Xbox 360 Fallout 3 has about 600 hours and a couple hundred saves. My 360 New Vegas has about 120 hours and a few hundred saves, and I still haven't beat the main storyline on my 360 version. I really like Fallout, so as far as if it's a "good game" I'm probably really biased, but if you played and enjoyed Fallout 3 I see no reason why you wouldn't enjoy New Vegas. I liked the environment of 3 much better, but I liked the quests/humor of New Vegas much better. I like the main storyline of each of them equally.
Um just be careful saving often with the FO games or any RPG. I've sank about 100 hours into FO3 and towards the end of my saves they started to be like 15mb each. That isn't much but when you have 100 saves that's over a GB just on saves. I had to whittle them down to just 5 saves. There are some games that are bad with saves. The worst offender is DA:O as I swear the save files were about 25mb each. If you're someone who uses the cloud storage or has a smaller HD (or just as a CAG owns way too much digital content) it can really muck you up.

The crazy thing about this happening is that Microsoft pulled the plug without even giving Signal Studios a heads up. No one even knows why it was delisted. Considering that Signal Studios has been one of the better indie studios in working with MS to create exclusive content it's a bit crazy that this has happened. I'm honestly amazed that this isn't bigger video game news - I guess it wasn't a big game but it was actually a fairly decent free-to-play game and this is pretty sad. Wish I had played it more. Guess I'll give it some love between now and November.

Tempted on TMNT OOTS, Ridge Racer Unlimited, and Guardians of Middle Earth...

With GoME, I realize it's a MOBA game - but is there a single-player campaign? I'd be more interested in the game itself with that (yes, I know it's counter-inuitive, but I am not big into MP competetive gameplay).

Played a little bit of Ridge Racer Unbounded last night. It's a bust for me. I didn't like the way the cars handled and it just seems like a less-fun Split/Second.

I was going through my harddrive last night clearing out games to make room for new games. I stopped at Dragon Age because I thought I deleted the main game a while ago yet it still said around 5.5 gigs of memory was being taken up. I open up the file and see every save game is 17 mb each!

Okay here's a random observation. I finally played Secret of Monkey Island SE, purchased on sale for $5 ages ago. I liked it and now I want to play Monkey Island 2 SE. It's been on sale for $5 too, but not since 2011. Chances are if it hasn't been on sale for three years it's never going on sale again. Yet I can't bring myself to pay $10 for it knowing that I missed the chance to get it on sale for less. :(

Wow this sale is pretty damn good. I'm eyeing Soul Calibur V and L4D since I just traded them to Gamestop along with Lego Lord of the Rings. I definitely recommend Spec Ops - the story is one of the best stories I've seen in gaming.

I think there's a better chance of it getting delisted unless we get a crazy "every must go" sale.

I watch a lot of movies and I think that ruined the story of Spec Ops for me. Little bit too predictable for my taste. The game dragged on and on.

Yeah, I forgot they made us wait an extra day. Then I saw the crossed out symbol in the download. Ran a Nephalem Rift in Diablo 3 as a consolation prize. 3 legendary items and a set plan. Way too much loot. Stash is full and 53 out of 60 character slots full. My friends really need to get an Xbox One, so I can offload some of this stuff...
Say bro. Shoot me some of that unwanted shit! Please!

Oh yeah, I definitely only keep the most recent ~5 saves myself (plus a few random ones here and there to re-experience moments I really enjoyed (like the Reppconn Test Site launch, for example)). I was just giving numbers based on the number to the left of the save when you load it. I just checked both games on my Xbox; 176 saves for Fallout 3 over 600 hours and 874 saves for New Vegas over 125 hours. Damn  , haha, I don't even know what to say about that other than it shows my paranoia of the notorious door freezing. I'd say it probably happens on average every 30-45 minutes. Definitely often enough that even though I've put 500+ hours into the PC version I still haven't finished a single main ending on the 360 version :whistle2:|

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are games that I want to like and feel like I should like, but just don't really do it for me. I think I've bought them both like three times. I keep feeling like maybe if I give them another chance, something will click for me. I got through the main story in Fallout 3 before getting tired of it. Couldn't stomach more than a couple hours of New Vegas.

I'd say 3, then ODST, then Reach, then 4.

I guess most people are now aware that Ascend: Hand of Kul has been delisted. It can still be played, but the servers for it will go down in November, making it unplayable. Yet another Xbox 360 free-to-play game being dropped around a year later.
Oops, I meant say few days ago - not weeks.

The end of Halo 2 had Master Chief in a spacecraft. Then I notice in the beginning of 3, his body is hurling toward the planet like a meteorite. I doubt the third game is the continuation unless my suspicion of him being a horrible driver from Halo 1 is true.

Ebb, you're not kidding about changes. I loaded Reach and it seems like a better game already. I appreciate them having a sprint button and wish they had that in Halo 1 and 2 (and for that matter 3). Speaking of changes, is there a point when Halo games automatically save? When I was playing Halo 2, that hair trigger of an eject button stopped the game and I lost my progress. I miss the days of gaming where the game would pause when something like that happens. In addition, do they ever get rid of those enemies that sound like ewoks?

Thanks for the input. I'm curious to see how these games play in multiplayer mode. I sure could have used it during Halo 2 on Normal mode where I was getting my butt kicked multiple times.

This is the other reason why I have these games on disc: I bought Fallout 3 in a past sale, played it to the point where I got frustrated and deleted it. Weeks later I felt like playing it again so I redownloaded it and had fun ... until I got fed up and deleted it because of this and I needed some free space on my drive. Saw it at Gamestop for like $5 and have no regrets. I was pretty sure New Vegas would be the same so that's on disc too.

Summary: Fallout is fun as long as you take breaks in between.

I remember playing Left 4 Dead about 5 years ago and completely disregarding it after a day or two. I bought it on a whim last night and ended up playing from the moment I got off work to 2am. Played with a group of randoms and had a fucking BLAST. I think I'm gonna be playing this, Diablo 3, and Metro Redux for the next month.

Til November huh? Well that's good to know. When the news came out, I assumed it was effective immediately but if the game is untouched until November, I'm going to look at reviews and consider moving this up to the top of the backlog because I was a bit interested in it when it came out.

Any CAGs put a good amount of playing time into Ascend that can recommend it or not?

Anyone that played Crysis 3, do you have an opinion on the 3D on it? I could do with another 3D game just to mess around in.

F2p that you can't play with friends don't usually do well. Not exactly a bad game, but without friends, there is less motivation to grind through the pay wall (I believe in this game it is a boss that cannot be beaten without paid weapons or it is extremely difficulty.

The Spinal Tap packs have been delisted, as have some individual tracks, but some are still up, as well as the 2 Fleetwood Mac tracks.

MS is going to start selling a separate XB1 Kinect in October.  Comes with Dance Central Spotlight download, costs $149.99.  So, remove Kinect from system, lower system price by $100.  Sell Kinect + game for $150.  Wonder if the Kinect price will go down as Dance Central Spotlight's MSRP does, or if they'll swap out the game for a newer, full price title to keep it at $150.

I had my doubts about Mafia 2 but after about 3 hours of playing it its really really fun

Everybody should try it at that price

Hmmm... Haven't played NFS anything for a while... But it's be nice ton have another game for the One. Anybody recommend for or against it?
I liked it but found it much less engaged than Most Wanted. It's pretty and the sort of always on multiplayer aspect of it can create some really fun moments but can also spoil the experience at times.

I turned the MP off and had a better time - the option is buried in a menu, but you can play it completely by yourself (not sure if you always have to be online tho).

On Xbox One, yes. The games are only available if your Gold subscription is active. On Xbox 360, you keep the games, even if your Gold subscription expires.

On XBOX 360 the games are yours whether you choose to have gold or not, on XBOX One they become unplayable unless you continue your subscription.

Dance central spotlight is only $10. It's only going to include 10 songs. The rest are DLC.
$150 for that bundle is total bullshit then. It's certainly not going to convince anyone who was skeptical enough to buy the Kinect-less Bone. $100 plus a free $10 game seems like it should have been a no-brainer.

If it was $100 then there would be absolutely no reason to spring for the console+Kinect bundle. The savings is an incentive to help steer people toward the bundle if they're at all interested in Kinect.

Dumb plan when people bitched enough about Kinect for two generations to cause the Kinect-less bundle to be a thing in the first place. If you were on the fence enough about the Kinect to opt out, a higher price isn't going to help down the road. Hardware sales generally take a hit on cost to push more available software.

$150 is understandable if you at some point you do see some reason to buy a Kinect down the line.  No different from the original $130 price point from the 360 Kinect plus DCS is a better game to bundle with too.
