This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I have a sneaky feeling that one of the next free games will be one that was on sale recently, that's what they did with Sleeping Dogs. I hope not because that really hits the people on this site the hardest.....we are suckers for a deal and they know it. Watch it be Bioshock 2!

I hope not, but that's actually a really good guess. Wouldn't do me any good since Im currently playing it and almost done with multiplayer for good.

BTW, anyone see the Burial at Sea trailer from today? I can't wait for it to be released.

Anyone want to sell Contrast? For $5 I'd probably just go for it but I'm waffling at $7.49. This feels like a game that will be on sale again in the future.
The game's main selling point is its atmosphere & semi-unique shadow gameplay mechanic. I've only played it on the PS4 a couple of months ago and the game was extremely buggy and suffered from some terrible framerate issues. I know the PS4 version was patched, but I don't know if the 360 version ever was. The game can be very entertaining for your first play-through, but once you've spent a few hours seeing and doing everything there's little motivation to play through the game a second time. You're absolutely right: $5 seems like the right price point for what you get.

Thanks, that's helpful. I think I'll wait. The way I figure it, a reasonably well-known game like this is bound to go on sale more times, whereas something like Blood Knights which has zero hype or discussion around it might well just fall off the face of the Earth after this.

Catherine was super. The puzzles were a bunch of fun to me and very challenging. The cutscenes and story in the game are really fun to listen to and watch as well.

Shameless plug! My friends and I do a podcast where we try to do a quick retrospective on an older game. It's a work in progress. We talk about Catherine earlier this week. We do talk spoilers, so if you are either okay with spoilers or just wanna reminisce about it, you might like it!

Mass Effect 3 question, but to get the best ending do I have to get to 100% prepared in multiplayer? I Played some like a year back and sent classes I maxed out to war or whatever as well if that makes any difference.
No as long as you have the free Alternate Ending DLC downloaded that lowers the requirement to get the best ending. As long as you do almost every task to be done in the single player you can never touch MP and still be qualified to see all the endings.

To those wondering about Amalur and its DLC's, I think it's about last call on these. The digital version of the game and it's DLC's have been in danger of being delisted for awhile ever since 38 Studios went belly up. It's been almost 2 years since release and I'm sure if EA has any type of licensing contract it's starting to run out of time and once that does I bet this stuff disappears almost immediately.

So if everything disappears next month don't say I didn't warn you.

Is the online pass needed for any thing in KOA? After paying for the game, dlc, and an online pass it might be better to get it new or from

Can anyone speak to the quality of the Amalur DLCs?

Is the online pass needed for any thing in KOA? After paying for the game, dlc, and an online pass it might be better to get it new or from gamefly.
You cannot buy Amalur new anymore unless you buy it off Amazon or find a random copy at a TRU or KMart. BB cleared their inventory in fall 2012 with their $10 sale, GS converted them to used last year, and Target clearanced it out as well. Maybe a random Walmart will have it. I doubt Gamefly will sell it anymore as I'm sure they sold their excess inventory last year as the game is almost 2 years old now.

The online pass is free under the DLC. It gives you access to a guild questline that's based around an arena you'll find about 1/2 way through the game.

The DLC is very good with one (the Pirates one) that can be played anytime after you reach level 10 (although the town to trigger it is about 2/3 of the way through the game) and the other one meant to be played either post game or near it. Quality is up to or better than the 7 Guild questlines. Beware on the Pirates DLC once you start it you cannot leave its area until you finish it. Gives you a house and lots of other goodies once you beat it.

Also beware if you play the demo to get the ME themed weapons and armor (which is a VERY good starting set) that you'll have to play the tutorial area twice as it doesn't save your character at all once you beat the demo.

I might be way off on this, but KOA plays like the Fable games, right?  I haven't touched my Fable 3 GWG yet, and I know I don't need two similar games on my backlist(especially since one was essentially free).

I agree, and I can't even come close to mention how great Amalur can be. Think World Of Warcraft in small, in a non MMORPG fashion, but with a combat similar to God Of War. It is on the easy side (even on Hard the game rarely is a challenge), but there's an impressive variety of classes, weapons, items you can have, changing the gameplay quite a lot. There's tons of combos to unlock, much to loot, it's one of the most satisfying hack-n-slash experiences you'll meet probably, and it comes with plenty of content overall. Beating the game 100% can take you around 100 hours (not counting DLCs, which are probably 10 hours or so each), but to me it never felt like a drag (unlike most RPGs after a while).

Oh, and about achievements. There are almost no missable achievements, nothing that forces you to replay the game in case something goes wrong. While going for 100% on everything is time-consuming, there's not a single achievement that is hard, going for 1000G (or 1300G with the DLCs) is very easy. The online pass for the game gives you an extra set of missions in an arena-style series of battles, which land you some pretty neat loot as well. Also, some other EA games give you specific loot if you played them: for example, I distinctly remember getting some badass (and surprisingly strong) gear for playing the ME3 demo. For like what, 15$ you get some 120 hours or so of brilliant hack-n-slash gameplay with satisfying combat, great looting, and an overall lovely world with an interesting story as well.

I'm aware most people can't just get into a 100-120 hours rollercoaster right now (if you're good and/or play on easier settings, it may be "just" 80-100) due to the crazy backlogs, but this is a gem that was unfortunately forgotten, due to terrible marketing (I barely even knew it existed up until like a month from release, and I was working for a gaming website!) and the disaster that came after the game sold poorly. The base game and the DLCs are a fantastic experience overall, and yes, the game might be pulled off sooner or later, and given the license issues it's likely it will NEVER come back if that happens. Same goes for a "proper" sequel and the planned MMORPG-sequel: most certainly never going to happen. Might be the last chance to grab these things (at this price at least), so action-RPG fans, please consider it. There's even a demo, and while it only shows you the beginning of the game, if you like the combat system in it, you'll love the game because it gets much, much more awesome when you learn the combos and magic. Much recommend, very wow.

Wanted to avoid spending $20 on one game this week, but that is looking near impossible with KOA. I rented it and rushed to finish it when it first came out. Would be nice to take my time and do everything, but I'm not sure I have the time.

Seconded. I originally had no interest in KOA but last year a friend recommended I check it out. I'm so glad I did - I ended up spending over 100 hours (including both DLC) and really enjoyed the hell out of it. It had interesting characters/locations, fun combat, and a really good balance between the action and the RPG story/questing/inventory. And as the OP said, the none of the achievements are that tough and most just come within the flow of the game. Definitely recommended, esp for that price.

Is there a release date for it yet?
From what I've read sometime before end of March. Perhaps the second week into the month?

I might be way off on this, but KOA plays like the Fable games, right? I haven't touched my Fable 3 GWG yet, and I know I don't need two similar games on my backlist(especially since one was essentially free).
I would like to know this aswell. I like Fable 2 and 3 equally and have read nothing but good things regarding KOA.

It could be a while before MS hands out any free XB1 games (F2P games aside). The Tomb Raider game that was released four years ago was only just recently made available for free. When compared to Sony, MS's free game program is still in its infancy.
I think what you're trying to say is that Microsoft is a cheapskate and Games for Gold (mostly) sucks.

I haven't jumped into next-gen yet, but when I do, it's gonna be awfully hard to turn down the platform and service that are consistently giving me free, new games (even when I don't own said platform yet).

Much recommend, very wow.
I'm so sad we'll never get a sequel to this game. The gameplay is so solid, and while the lore/story can sometimes be a bit generic and flavorless, the cool thing is that the devs took the problems with the main game to heart when they wrote the DLCs, and both of them have more memorable settings, less filler sidequests, more humor, and just more of a distinct personality than came through in much of the main game. A sequel that continued to build on that improvement could have been something really special.

Agreed. This may not be the most popular opinion ever, but I think it's my favourite RPG ever, even better than The Elder Scrolls games, Diablo, Torchlight, Dragon's Dogma and whatnot. Not because everything in it is better: it's simply the fact that it feels so good to play. That combat system is one of my favourites from any game. Throwing around blades, pulling off insanely spectacular combos in God Of War-fashion, or killing from the distance with arrows or magic - just everything you do feels so satisfying. And also every single aspect of the game (lockpicking, crafting, magic, etc.) feels so logical and simple - in many other games you have to go through endless and complicated menus to pull things off, and you don't really know what you're doing if you don't have a guide, but here I never had that. It may not be the most ambitious RPG around, in fact it does come off as somewhat generic at times, but it's so much fun to loot, fight and generally explore a varied world with tons of different enemies. The MMORPG-sequel looked amazing, and while no MMORPG could hold my interest for over a week, if they ported the amazing gameplay of Amalur and made it into a massive online experience... that, right there, could have been the one MMO I would have spent months on. Epic did "buy" the developers from the fiasco at least, and while I doubt they could save the Amalur property, they might be able to finish the MMORPG and release it with a different name, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Unfortunately Epic closed the studio and laid all those people off again shortly afterwards. And IIRC, no other company bought the rights to the Kingdoms of Amalur IP in Rhode Island's auction. So the prospect of more Amalur in any form is pretty much 100% dead and buried.

Whoever brought up the ME DLC sale in 2010 (it was actually 2010 not 2011) I hate you. I literally bought all the ME2 DLC except for Overlord a week before that as an end of semester treat to myself....shamed my CAG ways :(
But at least you've now probably played the game, right? I've been waiting since then for a sale, any sale, but no sale occured (except maybe one but I wasn't home for it). And now I think I too am going to shame my CAG ways and just buy it all for full price.

How is the online on Skate 2 and BF1943? Anyone still play?
Can't speak for Skate 2 (was alive a few years back when I played).

I played several rounds of Battlefield 1943 last night. Never have trouble finding a game.

Probably going to get Mirrors Edge since I regret selling it back years ago.

Wish more NFS games were on sale...

Yes, I know that it was 2010. I said that it was a daily deal during the "Countdown to 2011" sale. And wow, I don't blame you for hating me. That's rough. But you should have known not to but any digital content right before the annual holiday sale. Sorry....

Also, I forgot to mention before that there is another way to increase you Galactic Readiness rating. Even though it is no longer necessary to raise it above the default 50%, you still may want to so that you don't have to do as many sidequests or whatever. You can just log in at the N7 HQ site and play the Galaxy at War minigame there. That's a free way to raise your readiness rating if you don't want to play multiplayer, can't find a game to join, or don't have Live Gold. Then you can get all of the endings without doing all the tedious planet scanning and whatnot (I don't really mind it but a lot of people do).

So, they put the interactive comic, the alternate appearance pack, and one of the weapon packs on sale for ME3? Seems like a bit of a slap in the face to put all of that crap on sale but none of the ME series DLC that people actually care about (other than Citadel).

Bought Mirror's Edge. Been meaning to play it and was hoping to find a used copy around $10 mark, but that price at digital made it a must buy for me.

Citadel will be on sale again. Someday.
I've been waiting for a sale on Citadel since I finished ME 3 a few months ago but I've also had my eyes on KoA for such a long time, hoping it would be a GWG title. The physical copy used is still $15 so a digital would be amazing.

If you're patient, you can grab physical for 10 bucks on Ebay. In the sold listings, there's one that went for 10 bucks shipped, and another for 8 bucks shipped. Both in the past couple weeks. I'm sure there are more I just did a quick scan of some recent completed and those stood out.

Hopefully they have a fighting game for the free games next month

Maybe like SSF4 AE

or maybe FEAR or Condemned

I wouldnt mind RE5 or 6 either

I have a dilemma for sure.  Owned KoA on disk for the 360 so I bought the DLC awhile ago when it was on sale.  Sold the disk when PS+ offered it for free but I don't have the DLC on the PS3.  To buy this on the 360 now so I can play the DLC or not?

Get it for 360. The DLCs are some of the best parts of the game.

If you can wait for a cheap physical copy probably on ebay then you can wait if you have a backlog to go through. However, if you have the funds then a digital copy for $10 is pretty good. I mean, if you do not play the dlc, what is the point right?? It is all up to whether you want to play the dlc now or can wait later till you get a cheaper copy

So Catherine for 10? I just cleared 90 gigs of crap off the 360 and I don't believe I've ever seen the physical copy under 10. Does climbing tetris blocks in my sleep stay fun for 10 hours? Will I at least get some decent achievements out of it?

I think I'm going to pass on KoA.  It looks decent enough, but I'm running low on money in my virtual wallet.  I'll content myself with starting Dead Space, catching up on the last two Dresden Files novels I've missed and watching how horribly my fellow Georgia natives handle snow.

Some pretty damn good deals on Xbox Live lately.  It's a nice change.

I'm tempted to just pick up KoA and pay full price for Citadel later and I don't have enough money for both :wall:
I'd get Citadel now and wait on KoA. It took them almost a year just to get this one sale. KoA is bargain section material and will have plenty of sales.

Some talk about Phantom Breakers online being dead.

It's still somewhat there, only slightly though. DLC split the community big time.

I'm in no rush to get the DLC as of now. So for those who only got the base game, I'll be down to play it whenever.

I mean, I've only waited my entire life for it to go on sale but watevs.

Dead Space 1 is one of my favorite experiences on the 360. Highly Recommended. As I get older(and lose a lot of my gaming time to work, family, etc), I am liking linear games so much more.

They don't really do a good job of parodying anything, though. It's more like they tried to make Left 4 Dead and Borderlands into one game and failed miserably. It's far more towards Orc Attack on your scale as its low production values and poor writing doesn't get it anywhere close to the greatness of SS DD XXL.
I couldn't even get past the tutorial. They tell me to attack the guy three times in the air. I do so and they don't count it for some reason so I am stuck beating up this monster that never dies. Final Exam fails!

Next demo to download: Contrast.

You'll get your money's worth if you enjoy puzzle games and a challenge. As for achievements, just going through one playthrough and doing everything correctly should net you around 300 or so GS. Your gonna have to play the game ALOT and I mean 5 playthroughs at the least for 1000 GS.

Where are used copies $15? They're $30 at GS.
