This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

He also just tweeted that he will announce the Feb. GWG tomorrow in his blog.
Pretty sure it won't beat what PS+ just announced as free games for February for the PS3: Remember Me, Payday 2, and Metro Last Light.

I wish I had a PS3... :(

Even though I own all the BL and BS games already, it'd still be awesome to have one of them be a GWG.

IMO, the problem I had with the original ME3 "endings" is
the fact that they were all the same. Almost shot for shot with minor differences, they the exact same ending. I joked earlier that it could be fine if you onIy played through on ONE Shepard, but I spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours, shaping my Shepards to be different people each and every time: the badass with a heart of gold, the super bitch, the neutral always on the fence, etc. A series where your decisions made a difference in how other characters interacted with you, constantly drumming this idea into you where the choices you made MATTERED. And when I reach the end, what happens? I get to CHOOSE the ending I want. My decisions ultimately DID NOT MATTER. I fought the entire time for machine-human equality, but at the end I can choose to destroy the shit out of both? Or I could fight for the machines, but right before the end switch sides and betray them? The way you shaped Shepard's ideals, his or her morals, and views on the universe, none of it meant anything. And to put insult upon injury, even if you completely abandoned your character at the end, all that changed was the tint of the ending (and a couple of NPC deaths). You don't have other main characters reacting to anything differently, no scenes or anything to make it feel like you went on a journey to save the universe. You could've replaced the entire series with the intro of the first game cutting to a game show where you choose a door from a set of three to find your ending.

The extended cut somewhat fixes this...you at least get to see some scenes of what happens to the people you've journeyed with for years and years and some dialogue about what happens afterwards. But that main problem of being able to choose your ending is still there. I wouldn't have minded being forced into an ending based upon your character's choices. Hell, even keep in that last "conversation" just to help explain everything, but a game where you get to choose the ending you want like a multiple choice quiz makes the entire game pointless.
Thanks for the response! I could see how having played with multiple characters and gotten to that point would have been disapointing. You even answered the question I would have asked about if it would have been better if you didn't have a choice and the ending was forced based on your alignment. On one hand I saw it as a way to really throw a twist in there if you were aligned one way and chose something opposite and it could have been explained through indoctrination. On the other it sounds like it would be a stupid choice by the player and their fault for doing that. And yet I feel like people would have bitched if the ending was forced. They would have said that the whole game was about choices and then they were forced into that ending. Either way you can't please everyone. But thanks for opening my eyes a bit more.

If they put a Bioshock game on GwG people would riot. Each of those games were JUST on sale less than a month ago. So i highly doubt that they'd make the decision to do that. Someone guessed Crysis 2 earlier. I'd be willing to place my bets there considering Crysis 1 and 3 are both on sale at the moment.
Sleeping Dogs was on sale less than a month from its GwG appearance, and has also been on sale around summer as well. So that doesn't rule out much - if anything, we can rule out what is CURRENTLY on sale, but anything (out of the plausible games) that isn't currently discounted could happen.

YEah my guess is Crysis 2 as well since it wasn't on sale. Though Microsoft would be the ultimate Trolls to put a recent game on sale to free with GWG, say Mirror's Edge. EA has to chip in soon, so it has to be EA's turn this or next month for GWG.

Also April is the rumored month when the X1 starts It's GWG.

I've used both a regular 360 control and an arcade stick while playing it and I've had zero problems with the controls and I dash and jump regularly. Maybe it's a pacing thing? Phantom Breakers is much more in the league of Guardian Heroes when it comes to beat em ups, where Scott Pilgrim was way more traditional. I think there's way more to the combat then you felt there was as well. I mean, canceling alone gives way more options for combos than other games would.

I enjoyed the hell out of Scott Pilgrim, by the by.
Many have drifting analog sticks so dashing is meh for them. The game speed is like playing with 80 year olds imo....

Just wanted to chime in and say that with Alice coming with the original for that $7.39, it's a pretty sweet deal. Saw there was some talk about the camera/combat in the original being pretty bad, and while it is definitely dated I still felt it was passable considering the age of it, and the worlds/area design in both of the games are really well done, so it's worth it for those IMO.
Also the disc version fluctuates in price between $30 & $35 used at GS so this is likely the cheapest you'll ever see it on 360.

PS+ just took a giant shit all over XBL. Metro LL and Outlast for free?? Wow. MS has some real catching up to do.
I realize there are less freebies on PS4 (currently) but this is really getting irritating and makes me still second guess my decison to get an Xbox One. Console gaming is an expensive hobby so offerings like what's on PS+ can certainly help in getting new games to play when you can't just go and blow money every month on tons of games.

There is absolutely no question IMO. GwG has sucked royally compared to PS+.

You do realize ps+ has been doing this longer, right? It's not surprising they have the better offerings.
Where Sony had to spend lots of money to catch up to Xbox Live (and it admittedly isn't there yet), GwG isn't something that should take time to build up. You either offer better games or you don't.

And it's very clear where MS lies on that side of things.

I dont expect MS to compete with the PS+ games at all

but heres hoping its actually something we want

Any Bioshock game would be nice

Crysis i dont care for at all

Maybe even a Resident evil game wouldnt mind that either

but most likely it will probably be something no one cares for

which sucks cause this month with sleeping doggs and that tomb raider game was pretty good

PS+ folks have to worry about their monthly subscription, in the way you are renting those games. Yes MS gives its followers shitty games, but with GwG that shit is mine to keep! And its not gonna go away because I didn't pay PS+ subscription.

I've seen Dead Island being thrown around as one of the GWG for next month on a couple of different sites.  I've yet to see any links with confirmation, so I wouldn't read too much into it.  I'm not sure how I would feel about that being offered.  The little bit of time I spent with it didn't overly impress me.  Then again, that was probably a total of 18 non-cutscene minutes.

Why do people feel the need to compare PS+ with GwG when they aren't even the same thing?

Do you guys not realize that every Xbox Live member can potentially obtain Gold for free and it turn can get 2 free games for 1 month+

The GwG program is just a bonus to Gold members, not a reason to purchase Gold.

GwG let's you keep the games forever, so they just gave out free games to what could be any person connected to Live who has Gold, and those are yours to keep forever.

PS+ is just renting out those licenses for games. You pay monthly/yearly/whatever and you can play those games, and keep them, but you're just renting the licenses.

Now, nowhere am I saying that either is bad, both programs are great for what they are.

I'm going to drop the subject but really there wouldn't be a comparison at all between PS+ and GwG if it weren't for the fact that PS+ is now required on PS4 for multiplayer. No, they aren't the same as far as keeping the games but it doesn't stop me from being jealous :)

its just natural to compare PS3 and Xbox 360 stuff no matter if its exclusive games or PS+ and GwG program

People will compare the two every time no matter what

While I'll be the first to champion PS+, usually this thread isn't the best place to discuss it.
At least it's game related and doesnt imply user harassment and/or sad virtual flirting.

I have skipped the subject cos its a futile discussion but hey, in the countless times the topic has appeared, eeevery time someone jumps in with the "ps+ is a rental service" argument, and they are right but who cares? I have been a gold subscriber for years, uninterrupted, as most people here I guess so that "renting" character isnt a problem for a lot of gamers. Besides, hardcore fellows, especially with a vast backlog, play a game, squeeze it and rarely touch it again. So whats really the problem? A true gamer would gladly pay the ps+ fee to play A LOT, to play very recent games without worries.

Exactly. Most avid Xbox gamers have had Live for as long as they can remember so the rental thing is pretty much moot. Only possible argument is that maybe MS has to pay more for people to "own" the games. But if that's the case, I wish they'd change to a "rental" system. I'd much rather not technically own a game that still costs
$40 at retail than have a $5 bargain bin or old game to "own" (which most, with the exception of Sleeping Dogs, have been). In most cases people that are serious gamers have already played those games because if they didn't get them when they first came out, they did when they dropped in price. That isn't always the case with the newer "rentals" on PS+.

So, at least for me, the GwG program ends up giving almost nothing in return for my loyalty.

With trade ins, aren't most physical games really rentals anyway?

There's a post on SD saying Dead Island is the GwG for the first half of Feb. If that's the case, I hope the DLC is cheap.
And there we go, yes, Dead Island is a good game, but it's almost two and a half years old! So if you had any interest, you probably already have it (as I did when it got cheaper).

Sorry, MS, that still isn't stepping up.

Metro Last Light - still $34.99 used at GS. Released in May 2013.

Dead Island - $9.99 used at GS. Released September 2011.

And I'll try to shut up now.

Yep. Over at NeoGAF as well. Couple of other sites are picking up on those. The more I think about it, the more ok with it I'd be. Although I think I'd prefer Metro 2033 (or Last Light, but that ain't happening on Xbox this soon).

its just natural to compare PS3 and Xbox 360 stuff no matter if its exclusive games or PS+ and GwG program

People will compare the two every time no matter what
I have both PS3 and 360 and I've stopped comparing long time ago. I mostly game on Xbox. As for PS3 it's my bluray player and maybe to play few exclusives. I like Xbox.

Wow, what are the fucking odds?

I traded in Assassins Creed 2, Fable 3, Dead Island and my OG Copy of Gears of War 1. I only traded in 12 games the last two years.

So 4 out of 12 of the games I traded in went free with Gold! lol!

The dude on neogaf has no proof either. For now it's a rumor, so I'd take whatever people say the GwG for Feb. is with a grain of salt until we see proof.

Came to post the Dead Island info, looks like I was beat to the punch handily.  It's not fully sourced other than by some guy at GAF, but it sounds about right.

As for PS+, which the constant comparisons between GwG and PS+ get old, I definitely think it's a good idea to voice the comparisons in direct Microsoft channels, like Major Nelson's site and Xbox.com forums.  Xbox gamers using PS+ to put pressure on Microsoft definitely isn't going to hurt anything.

I bought Metro Last Light for $10 like months ago.

So like your argument is like you know?

You mean like any game ever released?

FYI for dual PC/Xbox gamers, Kingdoms of Amalur is on sale on Steam this weekend.  I'm kicking myself for buying it on Xbox the other night, darnit.  :p

The point also being the age of the game. After 2 1/2 years, most people that had any interest in Dead Island (which I got for $7.99 through the MS store, ironically) would have gotten it. The older the game, the more likely it is that hardcore gamers have played it unless it's just total crap.

Out of the entire GwG program I've gotten exactly one game - Sleeping Dogs - that I didn't already play. I can't remember a month where PS+ didn't have at least one game I haven't played.

I hope it's not Dead Island. My Goty copy of that and Riptide are both still in shrinkwrap. It would be nice if they put something that I don't already own for once.
