This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Came to post the Dead Island info, looks like I was beat to the punch handily. It's not fully sourced other than by some guy at GAF, but it sounds about right.

As for PS+, which the constant comparisons between GwG and PS+ get old, I definitely think it's a good idea to voice the comparisons in direct Microsoft channels, like Major Nelson's site and Xbox.com forums. Xbox gamers using PS+ to put pressure on Microsoft definitely isn't going to hurt anything.
Major's tweet about his upcoming blog post at least had some replies complaining about GwG vs. PS+, and the official Xbox Twitter even chimed in that details about GwG on XB1 are coming "later this year". (Note that details are coming, not necessarily the program itself.) Though given the usual quality of the replies to Major's blog posts (and probably his tweets), it wouldn't surprise me if they just ignore most of it.

I enjoyed what played of Dead Island. IIRC, I got to near the end of the 2nd act. Its problem for me was Gears 3 dropped 2 weeks later, so it got set aside and, except for firing it up to pop the "28 days later" achievement, it sits in the backlog.

For the record, I don't hate Phantom Breaker. Jumping really isn't that necessary so I consider it a small flaw. In fact, I jumped into the background by accident, but it's nice to know that ability is there. Attacks are fun to execute and the graphics and music have an old school charm that I like.

It's way better than Blood Knights. I finished the demo and found it very boring - especially when you are stuck with a character who can only aim and shoot arrows to attack even if an enemy is right next to you. And don't let the gallery images fool you: This is an overhead game. The infinite lives work in Lego games, but not in Blood Knights. Pass.

Hmm, a free version with free older games OR a paid version with free newer games? As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy with both as long as the games offered are good.  If Dead Island is the next free game, I'll be sad only because I already own it. Good games are all these services need and they are both providing them.

Anyone get Phantom Breaker and the dlc character and want to help each other out with the achievements? If so send me a message on Live. Been waiting for months to finish the achievements on it.

GT is FlamedLiquid

Jumping into the background? You mean lane-shifting? That's LB or Upx2/Downx2 depending on your location.

If you haven't, definitely read the how to play section. It explains a lot of the games mechanics.

I really hope it's Dead Island actually. I just bought it at Big Lots and have yet to open it, so it would be an easy return and I'd still get the game I wanted.

dead island was an awful  and time consuming bore. couldn't even finish it. it was  even worse than being rushed along by a stupid timer in dead rising 2. but free is free.

I'm assuming that the people that hate Dead Island are the ones that played it when it first came out. Luckily I didn't play it until several months after release and found the game to be extremely fun. I'm hoping gwg Dead Island and $5 Riptide sale.

I played it 5 months ago when it was on sale. It sucked balls then too.

I'd love dead island as a gwg game, never played it. How good is it in coop?

Another game I want is GTA4, I have it on pc but it's awfully optimized :/

I hope it's not Dead Island, simply because I already have it - digital too, so I couldn't even sell it. I'm still going to campaign the fact that we had 16 games so far (if we count Dead Rising 2 and its prequel as two games), and while we had shooters, third person zombie mania, RPGs, tower defense, open-world action, twin stick shooter and more... we still had no racing games! Give us a good arcade racer, anything from one of the not sucky NFS games, Blur, Split/Second, Burnout Paradise, FlatOut Ultimate Carnage. Granted, I own most of these, but I'd love to play them with friends since everyone would suddenly own them.

I've been an XBL subscriber since it was in beta on the original Xbox. Free games are free games - I didn't get any free games for 10 years or more, so it's not like this was "OMG, I HAZ TO ZUBSCRIB TO XBL FOR FR33 GAM3Z!!!". I was already a member.

For all the praise and "OMG, SONY IS AWEZUMSAUCE!!! I JIZZED OVER A FR33 GAM3!!!", I still haven't subscribed a singe time to PSN, and probably won't.

Yeah I had plus for a while and eventually let it expire. It's just a rental service to me and I already pay for that, it's called gamefly.

Thanks for the reply Neuro

This is exactly my case.

I only pay for gold because I want to play online, this free game stuff is a bonus on top. Even if the games aren't always very good (or new), free is free.

Thing is PS4 now requires it for online so it's basically like having to get Gold. It's an add on for PS3 but times are a changin'.

Dead Island, from my personal perspective, is easily one of the most divisive games of the 360/PS3 generation. It is riddled with bugs, save corruption is almost a guarantee (but you can kinda get some of it back, I know I had to suffer through it once) and is awkward to play especially if you don't know about the Analog control type that completely changes the games combat. It gives you a interesting facsimile of manual swing control so you can aim at certain areas on a zombies body to remove, say, his arms so he can't swing at you. You are even rewarded for this with xp. I played both DI games with my 2 friends and despite all of both of these games myriad problems, we ended up having a lot of fun. Full disclosure, we never paid more than 13 bucks for either title. If you intend to give it a chance, friends are a requirement, at least IMHO. Even so, the game still might not be for you, and that's totally cool. Good Luck =)

I've been playing a lot of Counter Strike lately, which I picked up from the winter sale. Finally starting to get good at it and I'm enjoying it a lot more. It's brutal and unforgiving when you first start out, but if you have the patience to stick with it it definitely grows on you and can be a ton of fun. Anybody else play? Would love to get a CAG squad together, most of the people I've been playing with / against have been 13 year olds lol

Dammit...I bought Dead Island GOTY on PS+ sale a couple months back and I haven't even touched it.  And I prefer 360 controller for my FPS games too!  DAMMIT!

question regarding the season pass cross buy/upgrade thing...

i tried the search bar on top but couldnt find exactly what i was looking for. my question is: if you buy the season pass (say COD GHOSTS) for xbox360, you essentially dont have to pay for it again if you were to get/upgrade-to GHOSTS for XBOX ONE.... BUT, what it sounds like is (situation of sorts) you trade in your copy of 360 to get xbox one version and still have season pass but now for xbox one.

...in doing this, does that mean if you were to own the game on BOTH consoles that you would then only have the season pass on xbox one and no longer have it on your xbox 360?? or would you essentially have all the maps(when released) available to play on BOTH systems?

Did they ever adjust the weapon repair prices in DI? I only played for a minute at launch and noticed pretty much all my money went for repairs.
They adjusted everything. The game when first came out was a mess. I played it after the patch and had a really good time with it. Love that game. Also, the patch got rid of that awful save data corruption issue. Can be played solo with no problems at all, but if you want to complete the achievements (fairly easy), you'll need some co-op from time to time (which ruined my first playthrough, because the randoms I played with, skipped everything and I didn't understand the plot in the jungle).

Haha, I got it for the same price at BestBuy on BlackFriday two years ago. Though it was one of the best deals at that time.
It was a great deal, I price matched it at Walmart and also got the very recently released Forza Horizon for $15; I didn't feel that this last one had the same kind of ultra cheap deals as 2012 BF (at least retail store wise).

Free sounds like the right price to try out Dead Island.
Yup. Honestly, I'm not the least bit interested in Dead Island and I'm way over zombie games, but I'll try it and I hope I'm pleasantly surprised. But this.....this doesn't compete with the goods they're giving away in playstation land. However, I am content because of:

$3.74 for Eternal Sonata

$4.94 for Tales of Vesperia

$9.99 for Kingdoms of Amalur

These have set me up, along with Fable Anniversary next week, probably until Destiny hits in September.

Jumping into the background? You mean lane-shifting? That's LB or Upx2/Downx2 depending on your location.

If you haven't, definitely read the how to play section. It explains a lot of the games mechanics.
Didn't realize there was a term for it, but yeah I glanced the How to section and got the gist of the controls. Like jumping, I doubt it's an essential thing to do in the game. Then again, that's just my experience on Level 1 so we'll see. I did get a kick out of seeing male characters in that background wearing cat-like ears though.

Everyone praising Dead Island forgot one extremely fun detail: Getting into a vehicle and RUNNING OVER ZOMBIES! GTA wished vehicular combat was this fun. Plus it's an easy way to get XP. Nice touch to see exterior damage as you crash into things.

The only thing I didn't like about Dead Island was the forced multiplayer. No matter how much I refused people to join me, they still do. I recall getting so annoyed trying to find a way to turn it off that I stopped playing it.

I already beat Dead Island and traded it so it is kind of bummer if it ends up the GwG for me.  The beginning 1/3 of the game is good with the next 1/3 kind of a slog a times and the final 1/3 a sprint to finish. I liked Riptide more actually.  I played as the guy who is best a throwing so I may play a few hours with a character more suited for close quarter combat and try that.

question regarding the season pass cross buy/upgrade thing...

i tried the search bar on top but couldnt find exactly what i was looking for. my question is: if you buy the season pass (say COD GHOSTS) for xbox360, you essentially dont have to pay for it again if you were to get/upgrade-to GHOSTS for XBOX ONE....

I don't know if this will help - here was my experience with the Season Pass for Assassin's Creed IV:

I've never owned ACIV on 360 and don't intend to, as I recently purchased the XB1 version. However, I thought, just in case, why not buy it for 360 and have it for both platforms. So I purchased it last week ($20) on XBOX.com. On XB1, it allowed me to install the Season Pass from the Store (wasn't automatic) and it downloaded to the 360 when I turned it on.

I'm not sure about Ghosts, but this offer for ACIV is only good until May, if memory serves.

Yes, if you buy the Season Pass on the 360, you get it free on the One. When you search for the season pass on the One AFTER buying it on the 360, it says "Get it FREE". Click that, then just download and install. You will be able to download the DLC on BOTH consoles from the in-game menu.

I bought a dual-digital license from Walmart on Black Friday for $49. Then a CAG was nice enough to give me a good price for the Season Pass on the 360. I have the game for both systems, and DLC for both, and paid ~$85.

I played through Dead Island last year with a friend, we had a lot of fun with it.  Some of the weapon mods are really entertaining.  I highly recommend playing co-op, it's a lot more fun that way.

thanks a lot guys, this really really helped. =)

For those dissing on PB:BG... :shame: (to me, its an awesome beat-em-up in its own way, even though with similarities with SPvTW, they're different in their own right, sheesh, at least its still getting support [just wished though the 1v1 fighter would still come stateside >_>].)

Also, this debate over PS+ and GWG has to stop, we all know we can't have everything at once, just only what they give us, simple as that. But hey, better than nothing, I guess. :whistle2:

Everyone is talking like Dead Island is the GWG for February. Did I miss where they officially announced this?! I thought they were telling us tomorrow.

I tried DI for about 30mins and got bored running around the pool area trying to figure out what to do next. I'll dl it anyways and give it another shot. My physical copy is somewhere in storage at this point.

In the main menu, before loading your save data, there is an option to disable the multiplayer, so you can play solo without people joining your game.

Anyone get Phantom Breaker and the dlc character and want to help each other out with the achievements? If so send me a message on Live. Been waiting for months to finish the achievements on it.

GT is FlamedLiquid
Let me know if you can't find anyone. I already have all the achievements, but I can give you a hand if no one else needs them.

The only thing I didn't like was the stairs glitch, if it happened once on your playthrough it was pretty much guaranteed to happen again. Honestly love the game otherwise. If it is the GWG if people want the whole story they pretty much have to buy the Ryder White campaign.

Oh I do have one other minor complaint about it, minor because of how minor of a role firearms play in the game... but targeting via sights on a game annoys me, I much prefer a targeting reticule which only shows up when you're in a corner or something that prevents you from extending your arms whilst hold a firearm.

XBLDB picked up Madden NFL 25 dropping to $25.19.  The Xbox One price is currently $49.99, guessing that's a $10 markdown.  Presuming they're for Super Bowl weekend, maybe Major will confirm it tomorrow.

Does XBLDB show avatar items? There are a ton of NFL avatar items I'd buy if they went on sale.

This made me think... I hope they don't give away an old Madden game for GWG since it kinda overlaps with the Super Bowl week.

It picked up the avatar stuff for Assassin's Creed III. Don't know if it picks up avatar stuff that isn't tied to a game, though. The jerseys are $3, hoodies and jackets are $2 and T-shirts are $1. Hoping those aren't supposed to be sale prices.
