This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

After playing a ton of the beta last night (after the girlfriend went to sleep of course) and this morning I gotta say March 11th can't come soon enough.

Do you recommend skipping American Nightmare?
If you are a fan of AW, yes, it's worth the few hours. If you are not, or if you go to this first......no. It wouldn't make sense and the gameplay isn't that good. It's the story that drives Alan Wake games, but the gameplay is just all right.

Thanks, I agree it's the story I loved the most.......

Hope everyone had a happy V day. Now, the morning after, I'm sure you faced your significant other(s) and said "sorry baby, but my true love is with deals, 'cus we roll deep. CAG fo' lyfe yo!" Then you see the only deals on the 360 were the free DLC for GTA5 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Japanese language pack; be sure to add them to your account while they are available for free. Again, RESPECT, CAG thanks to those on this thread and the free marketplace content thread giving everyone notice.

^^^ Wow. And I thought your previous post was a wall of text. This is like the great wall of text. ;)
Any guesses as to what is up next for the weekly sale?
I now relinquish my crown for text walls on this thread. All hail baboy, there's no better successor allowing me to just post all sorts of random youtube links. Like Portal spoiler videos. Which would be my next false prediction for this coming week's Deal of the Week. I figure Valve games has not been up on the carousel lately, or maybe the L4D games to hype up Turtle Rock's Evolve later this year. It fits the criteria of content which would get most on this thread to throw rotten consumables at the discount selection.

The problem is we don't have any good sales to talk about instead!
Woohoo! Time to get on my trolling account and mess with people in multiplayer! :bouncy:
Great, because all the effort I can muster up to play games these days is just the free to play poker game on Xbox Live (and hating myself for it). With the free Gold weekend, gimme all your fake monies on it, because I am on a losing streak of epic proportions. I really want to get to my backlog like everyone else here seem to be doing while the discounts on Xbox Live has been unappealing. At the beginning of the year, my new year's resolution was to finish 2 games this year, and I am on pace to finish a whopping total of 0. I like the suggestions of Sleeping Dogs, Deadpool, and Alan Wake and I'd probably want to get to those rather than jump into a beta, too much to get through rather than find something new to throw onto the pile.

I own UMK3, SSF IV, KOF XIII, MvC origins, MvC2, UMvC 3, SF4 Turbo, and I never intend to play online because its saddening to get my ass kicked so quickly. Why did I buy these games?!?! Why must they all have such long names that they require initialism?!?!

oh right... because CAG. well at least none were bought full price.
I am suffering all sorts of post concussion issues from all the dragon punches I took to the head throughout my life (the sight of the Ansatsuken fighters just tick me off then to even now), yet I'll still can't leave the game in Ultra Street Fighter 4 looks to add one of my favorite alts in another villain character of Rolento. Yeah, I'd had never bought Girl Fight if not for the discounts, and I've still not even tried the game yet. I do believe I'm due next up for Hoarders, since there's no bottoming out for quality I'd not get on discount ^^. I am really looking forward to Sega's upcoming two fighting games based around the Shining series and Dengeki Bunko.

This pas week, far less than what I've seen of Far Cry Classic, hardly a peep was mentioned on World of Tanks on the 360 aside from the downloading of the free game. Is it any good? Worth starting up and adding to my backlog? Another friendly reminder, if you've not added Dead Island to your gold account yet, do so soon before it switches over to Toy Soldiers: Cold War. I'll save my opinion of that for next time, see ya then ^^. Especially if the deals go sour again next week, I will have quite the thread diversion to talk about ^^.

Free Toy Soldiers: Cold War is live and Toy Soldiers is half off, if someone doesn't know by now.
Yup, grabbing the freebie now. Still shows $14.99, but if you click purchase, it'll show free.

Got my Titanfall code finally, about 4 hours ago. Pretty good game from the 10 or so rounds I played.

And no Toy Soldiers DLC sale. I'm curious if this will be the first month ever where I make no Live purchases and by curious I mean I think my 360 may explode if that's so.

Well, I was just passing by but seeing this thread is running after the EA Sale, I'll just leave my backlog confession too.

I'm slowly starting to convince myself there's no way I'll ever clear my backlog. I'm actually having a great year when it comes to clearing the backlog. I've just finished Bioshock Infinite on PS3 and last week finished Bayonetta on 360(what a tremendous game, I'll try and do my best to refrain myself from buying a Wii U, but it is going to be hard with the sequel coming this year).

But on the other hand, just in January I added 11 games to my Xbox 360 backlog and was able to snatch some great deals like Spec Ops for 4,5€ or sealed versions of MGR, LA Noire Complete Edition and Dishonored for 5€ each. I also snatched a Vita, and I must say that thing deserves a lot more love than what it's getting, I'm currently mid-Tearaway and I must say I haven't experienced such joy playing a game for a long, long time as I am with it.

I'll probably start Alan Wake, Spec Ops or Mirror's Edge next week as I am rather curious because of the feedback I've heard and I'm currently going through Halo co-op.

So help me CAG, which one should I play first?

As for future deals, if there's a XBL divine entity or something similar please give us an arcade sale with Bastion, Braid, Super Meat Boy, Shadow Complex, Half Minute Hero and Trine 2.

Start with the shortest and go that way. I would suggest Mirror's Edge since it's fairly linear and you should be able to finish it relatively quickly. Alan Wake can be short if you play it very linear and don't look for things that evolve the story and bring in more depth, because if you just play it without looking for those "extras", there's going to be a lot of questions left at the end of the game.

Sweet. I'm telling my friends that didn't get a code.

One of my friends texts me last night saying that his Xbox One turned on when he was sleeping and he was scared. I'll had to explain to him that it turns on to auto update.

So what's the Verdict: Toy Soldiers or Toy Soldiers Cold War? I got the first one free from the Doritos promo awhile back. Just played some Cold War and it damn fun. Granted It's yet another tower defense game. Reminds me I have to give Iron Brigade a whirl.

I really enjoyed the first Toy Soldiers game.  Lots of fun.  Looking forward to adding Cold War to my collection.  Both games gotten for the low, low price of "free".

As for future sales, I'd like to see a Resident Evil sale.  Ideally, I'd love it if Devil May Cry HD Collection went on sale.  But if it doesn't I still have a mostly functional PS2 to play those games on.

Also, for any wrestling game fans out there... have I missed anything by not getting a new wrestling game since Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain?

They've become more simulation-esque and less arcade-y, so depending on what you want from a wrestling game, it depends. Though the Attitude Era mode from one of the recent games was kinda cool.

To be honest, I can't remember the difference between the Toy Soldiers games. I just remember liking what I saw and adding them to my backlog.

Eliminated 2 GBs of hard drive space to make way for future games. Would like to see a sale on Banjo Kazooie, Duke Nukem 3-D, or the first Shank (actually I predict Shank 1 will be a free game next month) but I'm open to surprises (and not sports).

Speaking of sports: Starmartyr, I thought WWE 13 was pretty good with a homage to the Attitude era reliving moments from the late 90's. WWE2K14 is suppose to do something similar with Wrestlemanias but I haven't played it yet.

And by less arcade-y you mean you can elbow drop someone who is standing up?

Wrestling games are the worst they've ever been in my opinion now that they're a yearly affair and their main demographic is kids.

So how about some realistic guesses on next week's sales?

Hopefully some Toy Soldiers DLC sale so I can actually play the games.

Maybe some Strider type games for its release?

I mean when you used to be able to stack ladders on top of a table that's on top of a table with the freedom to do whatever with it. Now you're limited in capabilities. And glitchy/poor gameplay doesn't equal arcade-y.

Capcom sale probably. I already have every Capcom arcade game (except Flock!) but I'd love for something like Commando 3 to go on sale so the online can be active again.

Seeing as the Marvel/Capcom titles are gone, idk. If there was a Capcom sale the Lost Planet games could be on sale as well.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another massive Rock Band DLC price-slashing someday. I cleaned up during the last one, but that was all older DLC; I want a cut to the newer RB3 music.

That, and E4. Just can't bring myself to pay full price.

Gears of War 1 Games on demand code, happy saturday night. (could not find code drop thread)

Gone, no hide button on mobile aite

I played the hell out of Titanfall and marathoned House of Cards the past 2 days. It's been a productive weekend ;)

The beta sold me on picking up the game at launch. What a fun experience. Normally I get super competitive when it comes to winning but even when we'd lose I was having fun. I like that you can set your Titan to fight alongside you. It opens up some different strategies.

House of Cards is the only thing that was able to pull me away from Titanfall. Season 2 is just as great as season 1, if not better. I'm only five episodes in, so it is hard to tell yet. For season 2, I'm writing down all my favorite quotes (usually from Frank). I thought my favorite quotes from season 1 would be easy to find online, but they weren't. I'll probably re-watch it again and write them down after I'm finished with 2.

The beta is way more fun that I was expecting. I'll also be getting it the week of release. I was planning on uploading a clip or two to YouTube tonight, but ended up uploading around 10. Reminds me of the "Only in Battlefield" ads. If BF4 didn't already use that idea, I think it would have worked great for Titanfall. Still probably can, but I don't know if they want people thinking of BF4 when watching the ad. Might scare people away.

Somebody got this already...
I thought everyone on this forum would have that game either because it was free with GwG or because it was with Gears Judgement. Seems that there is people out there without gold and without judgement LOL (I got it with GwG, never interested in that serie until I got two of the games for free; got Gears 3 with the console as a pack, never played it).

It's nice that BettercallPitPat shared his code with us anyways :D

Wow! A new free game already? I'll have to add it to my collection when I get home!

Dead Island was totally worth free, I'm already exited to see what's free next month!

I still can't get over how fun TItanfall is. I think MS dropped the ball letting it go to the 360 as well, should have thrown more money at EA to have it as a X1 system seller. Well aware it will most likely be multiplatform next year/next version is out, but that's besides the point. in terms of pushing X1 sales for 2014.

Though I am curious as to how well it will run and look on the 360. I've heard nothing of the 360 version outside of being delayed a week.

Games with Gold solves my 360 purchasing problems, but yeah it definitely doesn't help the backlog. I only buy PC games through humble bundle as well, and the occasional steam sale, but the backlog never ends.

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it.

If you bought a game from the marketplace for 360, can you download it and subsequently play it on X1? Similar question: can you buy, say, Far Cry 3 digitally on your X1? Like a way of doing backwards compatibility I guess.

There are no stupid questions, but yes that was a stupid question. :) zero backwards compatibility. Games stay on their respective systems.

I really cannot get into the mood to play any of my backlog at the moment, and I was hoping to know the coming week's discounts before posting. So perhaps some quick responses for the time being.

Free Toy Soldiers: Cold War is live and Toy Soldiers is half off, if someone doesn't know by now.
I made the mistake of blind purchasing the two games and all their DLC when they were all discounted on prior Deals of the Week. I made the purchases based around TylerH's and a few other CAG recommendations, and I do not blame him for his honest opinion. I have odd tastes in games, and I tend to play a lot of games which makes me miserable (yet I somehow still enjoy the process of playing crap games). At the price of free for the 2nd release, one can't complain. Still, I'd just like to share my outlier thoughts on the 50% off game:

Toy Soldiers - The setting of the first title is interesting with its WWI miniature dioramas, but it's not exactly an appealing aesthetic to me. Music is appropriate for its content, but again, not my taste. The part the gets me most is its play mechanics. I feel every stage essentially has an ideal path of setup and play, and deviation from that path leads closer and closer towards failure. The way it plays out, I need to know beforehand what I am up against in order to correctly make my choices, which the game does not afford me to do. A rewind feature would have been welcomed, because if I made an unintentional purchase in the heat of the moment (the game never stops for the player's decisions) selling back the items is a substantial loss, especially when I may not know or have saved up enough funds to deal with particular special waves beyond what the UI allows in preview. Managing the resources then realizing you've made mistakes in your purchasing from early on, typically means a restart; this rigid play doesn't allow for spontaneity, adaptation, nor experimentation; I am forced to play the game in one way and I must've known beforehand (multiple failures to memorization) in order to succeed. Sure one can take command of individual emplacements/units, but for my lack of skill, it's practically a requirement to build up enough funds to succeed. I remember being stuck on a mission which I can only use planes, which pretty much made me stop playing for months. I'm currently dreading the idea of starting up the game's DLC from my backlog.

Toy Soldiers: Cold War - The free title this half of the month has a lot [of opportunities] to correct [gameplay flaws from the previous title]. I have yet to play it since I kinda want to finish out the first title before moving on, but my experience with the first title sours me so much it makes me really adverse to even loading it [game in the series] up again. I do hope the game allows for me to experiment, adapt, and improvise which I feel makes a more complete strategy, instead of being slapped in the face later on knowing I made a wrong decision earlier on due to lack of foresight and foreknowledge. The game still appears to have all the colors washed out and encased in some haze, so it's not off to a good start for me aesthetically, a shame since it has this First Blood and Predator vibe which should appeal to me. I will eventually give this game a chance, but man, did I run into a wall in my backlog of a title not designed for me -_-. Still, I hope everyone enjoys the game since it is free, unlike my odd taste in games which dictated I did not at 400MSP. [Cannot judge yet, but it is difficult to get into, so it is easier for me to demote lower into priorities for the backlog.]

I am not a wrestling fan (friends are/were, so I have some clue), but I do find wrestling work in videogame form. Wrestling physics can make sense within the realm of videogames since I see them as fighting games in a way: diverse set of characters, wall bounces (to the ropes), off the ground attacks, juggles, over the top attacks, etc. I have great memories playing N64 wrestling games with a group of friends (and many wresting games from NES onwards); we've spent countless hours on No Mercy, Virtual Pro Wrestlng 2, Wrestlemania 2000, etc. I think you may have missed a few notable titles released since which I found fun. Of the ones I've played since your timestamp, I liked: Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, DefJam Fight for NY, Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy, and the 360 had WWE All-Stars. In fact, I'm thinking of rescinding my traditional February full priced 360 marketplace purchase for the benefit of CAG from XBLA's Death Tank to the DLC for WWE All-Stars as the online servers are disappointingly gone (and thus I cannot play with my friends again, nor gain the online achievements); the demo to WWE All-Stars sold me on getting the game, so maybe you should try it too. Oh yeah, of course I really like the Rumble Roses games, because they have Candy Cane ^^.

I swore the Games on Demand version of Devil May Cry: HD Collection was discounted before (along with every DMC: Devil May Cry DLC). However, I am still waiting on Capcom to discount the last two Lost Episodes of Asura's Wrath DLC and Megaman 9-10 DLC which are getting close and closer to long shots. More likely would be the Resident Evil Revelations DLC that I desire to go on discount, which would be welcome considering how I've not found much to buy lately on the 360's marketplace. However, there's the possibility Capcom may not want to divert attention away from their new XBLA release of Strider.

Maybe some Strider type games for its release?
The only games I can think of which are like the Strider games are Osman/Cannon Dancer, Run Saber, maybe a reach with Hagane, and on the 360 there's Blade Kitten and Moon Diver which in my opinion doesn't match the quality of the previously mentioned titles. Of course there are plenty of Metroidvania games as well, but maybe it is best to wait a few more days and the new XBLA Strider will be out to scratch that itch.

The first step is admitting you have a problem...the second step is ignoring it, because buying games you'll never play is more fun!
Ten points for Gryffindor!

So, now that I've allowed the NBA2k and Guitar Hero fans have their week of discounts, I'm waiting on you Microsoft to give me my week. You've got XBLA games like Double Dragon Neon, Galaga Legions DX, The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief (all chapters), and proper discounts for Marlow Briggs and Death Tank. Or the many DLC I've already named before (Rumble Roses XX, Otomedius Excellent, DOA5U, Split/Second, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Duke Nukem Forever), anything, some of those pinball tables like Fantastic Four, Sorcerer's Lair, Epic Quest, Civil War, Balance of the Force, etc., is that too much to ask for the Live team to coordinate discounts for me? There's so much I still want, they can't possibly miss this Tuesday, can they?

EDIT for clarity on Cold War ... Primis, it is my fault for non-thoughtful posts, just figured to change up with quick replies to offer my personal thoughts of what I've *tried* despite not *playing* through it ... think of it as "initial impressions"

For real?

So you admit you haven't even played Toy Soldiers: Cold War, then proceed to say it has a lot to correct? How do you know? If you haven't even played the game, why do you have a paragraph up there talking about it? Thanks for all the useful info there, seriously. *thumbs up* Good job, good effort...

EDIT: BTW, for everyone... Cold War is SmartGlass-compatible. That's notable because there aren't really a ton of SmartGlass 360 games, it's a pretty small library (WIkipedia says only 20 total) . So for one to be free with GWG, that's a SmartGlass game everyone can get and try for free.

I have no idea if its SmartGlass integration is any good or not. Guess we'll find out!

If it's like every other SmartGlass XBLA game I've played, it just tells you what the controls and achievements are along with links to its official site. You know, the important stuff.
