This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

contemplating Oblivion at $3.74. I LOVE Skyrim but skipped Oblivion mostly, wonder if its even worth it now?
I just played through Oblivion and the DLC a couple months ago after completing Skyrim earlier in the year. It's definitely primitive compared to Skyrim but you can still get some enjoyment out of it. Also an easy (though time-consuming) 1250/1250 if you're interested in the gamerscore.

The thing about Oblivion, you can actually create your own spells. Skyrim was thought to be dumbed down after Oblivion. Skyrim I played off and on since release, Oblivion I played constantly from release to Skyrims release.

A couple years ago I tried to replay it, after not having played it for several years, and I could not play it for more than 10 minutes. The loading screens were too much for me. However at $3.74 (Cheaper than a rental at some places), I'd say that it is worth it. I was using a rented disc that may have caused longer loading.

I thought Oblivion was more fun to mess around in than Skyrim. I remember stealing totem poles from goblins (I think, something like that) and putting them up in rival goblin tribe places (caves?). Then they would attack each other trying to get their totem back.

I'm really curious why you think Oblivion is primitive compared to Skyrim. What was improved that made the experience more enjoyable? I think Oblivion was much more engaging and more fun. I love Skyrim, I probably put around 125 hours into it in one playthrough with all DLCs, however I never felt like there were any quests memorable enough to make me want to start a new campaign and replay again. In contrast, I have replayed Oblivion like 6 times because there were so many memorable quests.

Love the enthusiasm for Oblivion. Any memorable quest to share in comparison to Skyrim?
How is the music in comparison to Skyrim? Why such enthusiasm for Shivering Isles?
Thanks..leaning towards buying Oblivion after having so much fun with Skyrim. Thx

Oblivion's combat is clunky, the auto leveling enemies was annoying, hearing the same NPC voice for everyone was kind of disappointing, the UI was pretty much the reason why Bethesda made Skyrim's UI so intuitive, but overall it's a lush environment that always gets you to just spend hours playing doing random things --because the actual Oblivion gates are boring as hell (hehe). I'd say it's like playing Mass Effect after you played ME2 or ME3, it's gonna be a step back, with gameplay mechanics and design tried before it was tweaked, but the journey shouldn't be missed imo.

Oblivion was one of my prized Xbox 360 games, got the CE for Christmas *, so yeah many cool moments.

* So as soon as I got out of the sewers, everything looked Fed up, it was a buggy disc and I had to send back the game so even though I had gotten it for Christmas, I couldn't play the thing lol. Was a bump in the road though because Elder Scroll games always immerse me for hours --so much so I personally vowed to not play it during college because I knew It'd kill my grades.

Jeremy Soule does amazing stuff, he's done the soundtrack for both Oblivion & Skyrim along with many others like MGS:pW & CoH.

Shivering Isles is a great DLC that alters the gameplay to make feeling Oblivion, after playing many hours in, fresh again. Knights of the Nine is also good but that's pretty much more of the same. Shivering Isles feels very different and the humor and characters you meet are great.

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion's loading screens were decreased when the game was installed so I'd guess a digital version would be advantageous but I don't have 100% proof on that.

The Dark Brotherhood has so many cool quests, especially for a sneaky type of player. One of my favorites is this one where you attend a party and can manipulate people into trusting you, then kill them off one by one and watch the other guests' reactions. The Thieves Guild is really good as well, with a much greater focus on actually being stealthy as opposed to the thieves guild in Skyrim, and I thought they did a good job of making you feel like your thievery wasn't just for purely malicious purposes. You even get to steal an Elder Scroll which was a crazy mission!!! The Mage's Guild and Fighter's guild are much better than the College of Winterhold and Companions, which were 2 huge disappointments for me with Skyrim. The main story in Oblivion is pretty epic as well.

Oh, and the soundtrack is fantastic, Jeremy Soule is a genius!

Note to the guy above: The load times in Oblivion weren't good for me until I installed the disc to my hard drive which helped quite a bit, but you don't have to worry about that given that this is a download. While the loading is definitely still annoying, I don't think Skyrim's load times are much better.

I was getting Puzzle Quest and Jewel Quest confused. I'll download the trial to see how Puzzle Quest 2 is.

This was a good week for sales, but it was for stuff I mostly owned already. Only purchase I made so far is for Dante's Inferno although I was close to buying Walking Dead.

I loved Limbo so much that I bought it again on PS3.

I hated Oblivion. Very slow and very boring gameplay. It's the reason why I haven't tried Skyrim.

http://majornelson.com/2014/02/23/xbox-360-ultimate-games-sale-day-7/

The last day's deals are up.

Metro: Last Light for $20 definitely looks good, but it's also the same price on Amazon. Is there anything in that box that I'd want or need? If not I'm getting it digitally.
You might want to bookmark http://xbldb.com/current-deals, it was posted earlier in this thread and price changes show up before they do on major nelson.

Metro: is free with playstation plus right now in case you have that, but were unaware.

Damit Crono! I was blissfully unaware of the dlc. Now I will be pining for it to go on sale.
There's two DLC. One which includes 50 new challenges, the other which contains different skins. Neither add achievements though.

As for the sale, I didn't pick up a whole lot (although part of that is because Bing took forever getting me my free points and I missed out on Viking).

Damage Report:

Bejeweled 3

Limbo

Ridge Racer Unbounded (most likely)

The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 1

Four games for $10. Can't complain about that. I remember passing on Limbo numerous times in the past, having a hard time getting into it. I told myself though if it ever hit 75% off, I'd give it one more shot, and looks like that's going to happen.

I guess there's also Rock of Ages, but that was another one I couldn't get into in the past. The only memorable thing about Rock of Ages was it being the beginning of the end for Def Leppard. First two albums is where it's at.

Puzzle Quest 2 is bad ass. Love it. Cough up the $3 people and get ready to sink hours into this beast.

Bought for full price day one and have not regretted it either. Hope like hell they do another one or expansions to this one.

Oblivion is great too. Easily worth the sub $4 price.

I was able to resist most of my wants and ended up with:

Pool Nation $.99

Condemned $4.99

Viking $3.74

Bejeweled 3 $1.04

Capcom Arcade $1.74

Bastion $2.99

Dante's Inferno $3.74

Spent $19.23 so far when I was originally looking at over $40 the first day.

Tomorrow's possiblel:

Puzzle Quest 2 $2.99

Rock of Ages $1.99

Still thinking about Driver SF but I may wait for the physical to go down. Too bad Radian Silvergun was only for Monday night.

Ended up with

Batman Arkham City $4.99

Limbo $2.99

Runner 2 $1.94

Dante's Inferno $3.74

Dirt 3 $4.99

Less than $20, not bad.

probably in for Limbo, PQ2 and Oblivion... not bad.

on a completely unrelated side note, I finally got around to playing through Gears of War Judgement, and what a half-assed, awful campaign that was.

Im on the fence with ME1 ... there is no demo so i cant tell...

How well does it look on standard def... can i read the text? Or is it like Dead Rising?
I haven't played in standard-def, but you should get it all the same. It's a decent game in its own right, but it is worth trudging through the damn Mako missions just to be introduced to the ME universe, and as a prelude to Mass Effect 2. ME2 is one of the best games of last gen, and you carry over your character from ME1 including the results of all of your decisions from the first game. The world in ME2 is significantly different depending on how you played 1, and you'll have a more vested interest in the outcome of the game.

Also, to those on the fence about Oblivion:

Get this, or the GOTY version (and play Shivering Isles after doing EVERYTHING else in the regular game). Oblivion does have some dated visuals by today's standards, and the leveling system is indeed needlessly complicated; however the charm of Cyrodil is irresistible. Fallout 3 plays better, but I can't help but fall in love with the idyllic Cyrodil countryside. You'll be filled with wonder and awe when you happen upon an unknown and unexplored ruin, or make your way through a quaint and tiny village overlooking the vast black forest. You'll welcome the sight and company of a mounted gaurd after walking alone for what feels like an eternity on the dark wooded paths at night, ever fearful of attack by bandits, just hoping to reach the faint light from the Inn far up ahead.

The soundtrack to Oblivion is the greatest I have ever heard in a game bar none; it really draws you into the world like none other.

If the antiquated leveling system bothers you, crank down the difficulty and just enjoy the intriguing stories and quests, soak in the atmosphere, and explore the countryside at a leisurly pace.

you gotta give Oblivion some time before it really clicks, I remember getting bored when I first played it, but went back and after a couple hours it really starts picking up, and just gets better and better. I actually liked it better than Skyrim in a lot of ways, graphically it's a bit dated but it still holds up well.

Put over 110 hours Into Skyrim. Loved it. Played Oblivion for an hour tonight. Sold. Bought the GoD. Music hasn't gripped me yet. Dated graphics but doable.

Just IMO about Oblivion...

- The autoleveling sucked, but you can play with the difficulty sliders if needed.

- Some of the more memorable quests I have ever played in a game. I won't ruin them, but play the side quests.

- Graphics are a bit dated, but back when this came out I found the game amazing looking.

- I loved the content in the Shivering Isles expansion.

- Achievements are "easy" but nice that you get rewarded for doing all the main quest lines.

- If you liked Skyrim, it's worth playing if you want story / quest stuff.

- I put in about 150 hours after beating the main quest

I feel like I need to share my thoughts on Oblivion since I'm currently trying to complete the main quest for the first time. I've bought this game a total of 6 times over the years on multiple platforms. I started on PC, got to the part where you get a horse and realized my PC couldn't handle it. Bought it on 360 a few months later and spent 30 hours screwing around and doing side quests. Bought the GOTY on steam three years later, and got farther in the main quest than ever, but got sidetracked with other games.

A year later Skyrim came out, and I played it nonstop until I finished it, and loved it. Then I had to sell my 360 and games. Last year I bought the GOTY for PS3, and played the beginning AGAIN. It ran like crap on PS3, and I was overwhelmed at the thought of having to complete the same early quests again. Never touched it again...until...

In December I got a great deal on a new 360 slim. Bought Oblivion used for cheap and loaded my save file from 2007. I already had all the DLC except Shivering Isles. I decided to make it my mission to continue and finish the main quest. I played for about a month off and on and made some progress.

THEN I took advantage of a buy 2 get one free deal on Oblivion GOTY, Fallout 3 GOTY, and Fallout NV Ultimate. I loaded the DLC for Oblivion (which does not include all of the game's dlc btw), and I've been making progress towards my goal. I'm much farther in the game then I've ever been before.

At this point I am sooo tired of closing Oblivion gates, and I have turned the difficulty down because the combat is not worth it at the default setting. But despite it's faults, I still highly recommend it...especially at

Final Tally -

Limbo - $3

Rock of Ages - $2

Puzzle Quest 2 - $3

Lord of the Rings BFME - $1

Bejeweled 3 - $1

Dust: An Elysian Tail - $3

6 games for $13... not a bad sale.

Only picked up Driver SF, but if tomorrow I'll see bad deals I may pick up Portal 2 again, that's a game I want to have 100%ed on my profile.

I personally found the guild quests in Oblivion significantly better than Skyrim's; they just had more personality. Dark Brotherhood, anyone?

My final tally...

Pool Nation - $0.99

Guardians of Middle Earth - $1.04

Bejeweled 3 - $1.04

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD - $4.94

Dante's Inferno - $3.74

Mortal Kombat - $4.99

For a total of $16.74

No doubt. Even the side ones off the "main" side ones. I haven't played that game in years and I can still remember a handful that left a huge impression on me.

I'll have to second that ME1 is well-worth the time spent in the game. Story is the best in comparison of the three games, with lots of WTF moments coming up through the course of the game. Game time-wise, it's either a breeze through in 20-25 hours or 50+ hours if you do all the side missions and explore the heck out of the game.

Mechanics-wise, ME1 is the weakest of the three games and graphics-wise, it's also the weakest. It's strongly recommended to install the game disc to the hard drive to help with some of the stuttering/pop-in issues you run into.

DLC-wise, Bring Down The Sky is a must-have IMO and it does have a couple of items that influence ME2 gameplay and ME3 gameplay.

Also, it's worth going through the game at least twice with one gameplay for Paragon actions and one for Renegade actions. The two voice actors make it worth playing as male Shepard and female Shepard across two playthroughs.

Achievements take at least 3 playthroughs to do almost everything due to level cap issues on the first playthrough. Teammate and class-specific achievements take a while to go through as well. I

It's a game I gave 115 hours to and loved just about every minute of it.

Got that Italian marketplace here, so prices are in Euro. Here's my tally:

 - Runner 2 - 1,87 EUR

 - Hell Yeah! - 3,59 EUR

 - Bejeweled 3 - 1,00 EUR

 - Mortal Kombat - 4,99 EUR

 - NiGHTS - 2,37 EUR

 - DiRT - 4,99 EUR

 - Driver San Francisco - 3,29 EUR (only case where our marketplace got the better deal)

 - Asura's Wrath - 7,49 EUR

 - Guardians of Middle-Earth - 1,00 EUR

Total: 30,59 EUR, though I had a bit over 5 Euros from Xbox Live Rewards on my account, so I effectively paid around 25 Euros for 9 games: 4 GoD, 5 arcade. Great, overall. Also bought the new football/soccer-themed Pinball table outside of the sale, should get the latest Dodonpachi this week along with possibly Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare, and we are getting the new GwG at the end of the week as well. Definitely a solid week, my backlog is growing like crazy but at least some of these games can be blasted through in a relatively short amount of time (like Bejeweled 3 or Hell Yeah!). Plenty of other great deals like Pool Nation, Fruit Ninja Kinect or Ridge Racer Unbounded, things I didn't bite on because I own them. At this point, interestingly enough, I own all games (bar 2) from the weekly sale between buying some now and having had many already, this is starting to be a scary indicator of my backlog...

I'm sorry, I usually really dislike these types of posts, but, Guardians of Middle-Earth... yay or nay? I tried the trial and I couldn't figure out how to even join a online game, only create one, which upset me and made me feel dumb, although I like the gameplay.

Exactly. Have you already tried it? I'm considering buying, it's a really tempting price. But for a little more there's that Ridge Racer game... which will offer more gameplay? Of a racing game it's to gold races, tracks and champs what i like the most. I have the feeling RR:U fulfills better that aspect than Driver.

Other than that, i own gta5 so i shouldn't even considering any purchase :p

I did not try Driver yet, but it should be a more serious experience, despite being a bit fluke-ish with the car-switching while driving thing for example. It looks great and pretty unique. Ridge Racer is more akin to FlatOut with more drifting, tons of beautiful destruction, a great artstyle, many game modes and a track editor, along with the possibility to download anyone's tracks: that makes the lenght of the game spike dramatically. Driver is more like an open-world game, kinda like if GTA was focused more on having a great driving model. I'd say get whichever fits your bill the most as in what you're looking for - but the best thing you can is getting Dirt 3, RR and Driver, 3 different racers, all pretty damn good at what they do.

In short...

Ridge Racer: tracks, destruction, bumping, EDM music, track editor

Driver: open-world, GTA-ish, more serious driving, car-switching while driving, half-action game

Dirt 3: rallying, drifting, gymkhana, jumping, all with a somewhat serious driving model (compared to RR anyway)

Oh, and I have all 3 games plus also own GTA 5 as well. Feel free to send me a friend request.

Driver was surprisingly cheaper on Euro marketplaces, so i bought it as well.

Also i'm glad The Darkness II was IP locked for me. Today just bought new Limited Edition copy for little lower price than MS's offer.

Well My take was modest in hindsight....

Reach

Batman AC

Bejeweled
Alan Wake AN

I just noticed that I got the invite to beta test the new XBox One software improvements....anyone doing this?

I am regretting not getting State of Decay on Saturday.

Otherwise, glad I didn't get anything else at this point. My backlog is tremendous and South Park: SoT is out next week.

Doesn't State of Decay have an annoying feature where your world degrades (decays) over time, even if you don't play it? I.e., the zombies keep multiplying even if you take a few week break from playing?

When I read that, I basically lost all interest in the game.
