This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I know this is a fairly old post, but I feel it needs a response.

There is nothing to brag about with respect to Nintendo's business practices. Since the Gamecube, their hardware has been poorly-designed, feature-lacking, gimmicky junk.

-- The 2nd screen on the DS was mostly a joke (that effectively decreased the overall quality of that handheld). Had they opted for just one screen, it could have been higher resolution, better battery life, better CPU/GPU, etc., but the 2nd screen drained resources from those other areas.

-- The Wii was solely based around a terrible waggle gimmick (tied to a very inferior console, for its time) and full of mostly junk shovelware. It was a HUGE success due to the fad nature of the waggle gimmick, but the console itself fizzled out much sooner than it otherwise should have, especially when people realized it had very few good games on it, and even the good ones were gimped by the lousy waggle controls.

-- The 3DS was (once again) gimped by an unappealing gimmick ("glasses free 3D" which sucks unless you have just the right angle of view, most people just turn it off), and again this primary "feature" (which is just a gimmick) caused the overall handheld quality to be decreased.

-- And finally the Wii U with its over-sized, awkward "gamepad" that distracts from play more than it improves it (and often serves no other purpose than "off screen play", and AGAIN features a woefully inferior attached console). Released in December 2012, yet so many features were inadequate or just plain missing! 2GB RAM (with only 1GB available for games), no internal HDD or even a bay for one, no ethernet port (really, they couldn't pay a few lousy bucks to include this?), weak (by the standards of that time) CPU and GPU, no blu-ray or even DVD support, and ancient (slow) USB 2.0 ports, when USB 3.0 had been out over 4 years prior! Could they really have left any more features out of this console?

And lately, Nintendo isn't making a "modest" profit anymore, they've had losses for the last two years! Both the Wii U AND the 3DS are failing to hit their target sales amounts buy huge numbers, and the company is losing money consistently. That really should say a lot about how far this company has fallen, from what once was the single best gaming company in the world.

I still have all my old Nintendo systems (NES, SNES, N64, and GBA SP) and hundreds of games for those, but starting with the Gamecube I skipped literally everything they offered; they truly have lost their way. I think their home console market is finished, they really can't design good hardware anymore, which leaves them with just the handheld market. Even that has been severely eroded by mobile games on Android and iOS. They really need to go back to the drawing board and change the way they operate, because under Iwata, Miyamoto, etc. this company has been run literally into the ground.
You don't appreciate the Nintendo design paradigms. You're criticizing the company for hardware considerations that aren't important to their design goals. Learn some more about their history and why they operate this way. This is an excellent history and makes for a compelling read. *Pointless rant*
This "poorly designed gimmicky junk" that Nintendo makes are also the second (DS) and fifth (Wii) best selling consoles of all time. They have mountains of cash and can afford to lose money for many years. Nintendo have had there biggest successes by releasing systems that are innovative rather than a new round of systems with better specs. You can't blame them for trying to continue to innovate.

Civ Rev is the next free GWG.

If true, that would suck for most people.  Probably appeals to the same % of people who were excited about that Magic card game and that Clash of Heroes game.

Given all the comments on here, I was hoping to try out Gaiden just to see how difficult it really was...

I hate this pic. It seems almost disrespectful to me. Don't know why. Just looks it. Probably the whole trapping him thing.

This pic though. This one punched me in the feelings maker:

Civ Rev is fantastic. I, too, bought it on sale ... last year sometime. No regrets; I'm just glad more will get to play it.

You cannot translate it word for word because of crazy German grammar. I was trying to say "You should know we only speak german." Up to German 102, sentence structure is mainly Subject Verb Noun Any other verbs. For example: "I want to play Titanfall" would be "I want Titanfall to play." I hate it and wish secondary language wasn't a requirement.
Well you don't have to tell me cause I AM German lol...but in this case there was no other option...the whole sentence (it wasn't even a sentence and that's the problem) couldn't be translated because it had no meaning from the beginning. And if you're going to translate: "You should know we only speak german." it would have been: Du solltest wissen, wir sprechen nur deutsch. (the only thing that has changed here is only and speak (nur and sprechen) these 2 words switched places, everthing else is in the same spot lol

Civ Rev is a great game, and a great strategy game on a console. I personally have already 1000s it and have Civ off Steam, but it's a great game for those that are interested.

Civilization Revolution is perfect for a GwG since it's so much fun to just pick up and play and kill time. In short...

LOL, "Nintendo design paradigms" = find some kind of gimmick, cobble it into the cheapest possible hardware you can produce, and hope for big profits. Worked great with the Wii (for a limited time), but people burned out on the gimmick and the system died quite early. Failed miserable for the Wii U, where the gimmick is unappealing to consumers, and the console itself is woefully underpowered/feature-lacking.

You're criticizing the company for hardware considerations that aren't important to their design goals.
No, I'm criticizing the company because the hardware is poor. I couldn't care less about their "design goals".

I started to read that article, but it is WAY too long and boring. The bottom line, Nintendo USED to produce the best hardware on the market (NES, SNES, N64, GBA SP), but starting (especially) with the DS, they opted for some kind of gimmick to draw people in. The DS was indeed a huge success, the Wii was INITIALLLY a big success (but ultimately recognized by most core gamers as a failure), and the 3DS and Wii U are just further attempts to spice up cheap hardware with gimmicks. I don't need to read a book to see the writing on the wall, so to speak; the Nintendo of old is long gone, and as they exist now, they have pretty much failed in the home console market. "Design goals" notwithstanding!

Meh, hope the civ rev thing isn't true. Pretty much anything at all would be more likely to be played by me than that.

Kind of glad Civ Rev is going to be the next free game. While I'm not big into RTS games and the likelihood of me actually playing it is pretty low, it is a game I don't already have, which isn't something I've been able to say often about the GWG promotion.

Civ Rev isn't RTS. It's turn-based and yes, it is something fun if you want to waste a little or a lot of time.

How long will BLOPS 2 servers be supporting online play? Just debating if I should use my ms point credit on the digital and sell the physical. (sorry for the spelling, darn kyocera)

I haven't played it in years, but enjoyed it. The game will be more fun with friends!
The game is the most fun played solo, simply because it takes so long to play a multiplayer game. But I've never felt that multiplayer was a useful addition to the Civ series.

while I can't say for sure, I did hear on a podcast this week (maybe cagcast, can't remember) That BLOPS 1 is still one of the top 10 games being played online. By that reasoning, I'd think you still have plenty of time left to waste away your life in the multiplayer.

I played a little CivRev a few years ago and, while I didn't  sink too much time into it, I'd definitely look forward to giving it another shot.  It was fun, just too many other things to play at the time.

Hi there CAGs. Even though I've been reading this thread for years maybe, it hasn't been until the recent ultimate game sale that I decided to finally jump in and sing in into the forum, as I saw that so may people had their backlogs growing just as much as did mine. BTW, I'm eager to see what the GwGs for March are and to comment further sales in the future.

Keep on feeding your backlogs!

How long will BLOPS 2 servers be supporting online play? Just debuatin if I should use my ms point credit on the digital and she physical.
I still play Black Ops 2 a lot, it's by far the COD I played the most and I still use it more than Ghosts. There's still tens of thousands of peopls online, 10k or so in the slowest moments, easily 30-40k during peak hours. A great solid community of varied skills.

Oh, and even COD2 or MW1 has its servers online after all these years. Black Ops 2 is in absolutely no risk of getting its servers shut down.

So the rumors have Batman Arkham Asylum, Ninja Gaiden 2, and from a more reliable source (apparently) Civilization Revolution. I already played Batman and still own it on disk, it makes no difference to me (though in case of a good sale on DLC I might bite since I don't have the GOTY version, which at this point I might as well pick up separately for the different achievements). Ninja Gaiden 2 is one of those games I'm not sure I'll enjoy: lately I'm not into ultra-precision requiring games to be honest (danmaku games aside), games that frustrate me to no end are easily buried in my backlog in favour of stuff I can breeze through in a couple days. But I gladly play it, it's just that I'm not sure it'll have the right effect on me. The most reliable prediction, at this point, seems to be Civ Rev: I was tempted to pick it up last time it was on sale, but I didn't in favour of other games, so I'm glad if it comes around. Tower defense games aside, I only have Red Alert 3 as strategy game on my Xbox 360, and even that is an RTS, not turn-based, so this will be unlike anything I own. Will I like it? Maybe so, maybe not, but at least it's something I don't know that I want to play, and that is also so different from everything I own that it won't be ignored in favour of similar games. Either way, looks like a solid month for GwG.

Civ Rev is a FANTASTIC game. Yeah - the MP sucks just because it takes FOREVER. Hell, SP games aren't exactly short. It really is a blast to play, though. I had bought it, played it a ton, traded it, then bought it back over the BF sale and played it quite a bit more. It's a time sink - though not on the level of Bejeweled 3. I am seriously considering deleting that game just so I am not tempted to play it all night again.

Yeah, I can imagine the pains of MP on that.

Bejeweled 3 is worth keeping, it's one of those games that can be played anytime because it becomes a routine, doesn't really need concentration after a while. Thus you can play it while listening to a podcast, talking on the phone, waiting for a download to finish (it's one of those "light" games that don't interrupt downloads). It's perfect for everything, really.

Civ Rev is the next free GWG.

I hope this is fake. I couldn't have less interest in a game than this. No offense to those that like this stuff, it's just not my cup of tea. At all. I was hoping the other rumor (B:AA and NG2) was true.

Looks like he was right about the games last month and some sales before Major Nelson made them public.

Snidely dismissing Nintendo's consoles as gimmicky doesn't change the fact that the Wii consistently sold better than either of its competitors, and had mass market appeal that neither the Xbox 360 nor the PS3 could touch (and lord knows they tried with Kinect and Move). The Wii was a success. I know it kills you to acknowledge this, but hey, it's the truth. Nintendo sold more units and made more money than either of the "killy bang bang cutting-edge awesome graphics but who could tell with all that brown and grey" consoles that competed against it. Gimmick or not, what Nintendo did with the Wii WORKED.

Nintendo's big mistake in this console cycle is that it offered a design that didn't appeal to the casual players that embraced their last system. It's too expensive to be an impulse purchase, and the touchscreen isn't as intuitive or as cathartic as the Wiimote. The hardcore gamers snubbed the Wii U by default, and will continue to do this for every console Nintendo releases, because this is what they do. They bought into the "Nintendo is kiddie!" hokum from the N64 days, and refuse to soil their hands with something so immature... before firing up their Xbox 360s and playing something that's the digital equivalent of pulling the wings off flies.

I'm not convinced Nintendo is well served trying to appeal to this very petulant and demanding audience. In the end they won't support Nintendo systems *anyway*, as the flat sales of Wii U versions of Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect 3 prove. Let Microsoft and Sony have the "real" gamers; they should concentrate on everyone else the industry is so good at shutting out.

If you exceed 500 MB of stuff I guess maybe, but... that's hard to do with most game saves and whatnot.
I actually found it pretty easy to amass game saves that are over 500mb in total. The Orange Box save file is 50mb, after playing Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins and Skyrim long enough each save file for those games can be about 20-25mb, one of the Forza games has a terribly huge save game file as well. It is really annoying too because there's no way to just copy over the whole Cloud Save folder to a certain drive, you have to move each file one at a time which does my head in. But yes Cloud Saves are good especially when you're switching drives. But horrible when you have an internet outage as I did recently, went to play my games but had no access to my save files and I didn't feel like starting anything new, read a book instead.

I'm down with CIv Rev as free GwG this month. It's one of those older games that most people likely don't own that has an 80%+ metacritic rating and that's still sorta hard to come by one disc (at least I rarely run into it which makes me think that not too many sold or were pressed in the first place) so I think it's a great game if that rumour holds up. It's now the second disc-based game that has been released that I didn't own since this promotion started (Dead Rising 2 being the other).

The most recent information I could find was Dec 2013 but the list of the most played games on Xbox Live had 5 CoD games in the top 15

2. Ghosts

3. Blops 2

6. MW3

9. Blops

15. MW2

Safe to say you are fine with BLOPS2.

Wow, WTF! No wonder they make these games every year. Not complaining (I can safely say after BLOP 2, that the this is getting repetitive bug finally hit me).

Add me in the group of people that don't want Civ.Rev. to be the next GwG. I'm glad for the ones who want it though, free is free. I won't lose anything, in fact I won't lose HDD space downloading it (5gb!).

edit: I say that, but I'm sure I will download it... eventually :wall:
