This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

 • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
 • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
 • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
 • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
 • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
 • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I hope it's not Civ Rev either. I bought Civ Rev at launch over 5 years and bought the GoD version last year. It's a good game for sure, I just have no use for it in Game with Gold.

Also the new Strider game sucks and probably not even worth $5.

Add me in the group of people that don't want Civ.Rev. to be the next GwG. I'm glad for the ones who want it though, free is free. I won't lose anything, in fact I won't lose HDD space downloading it (5gb!).

edit: I say that, but I'm sure I will download it... eventually :wall:
Normally I'd download the game anyway, not a game like that though as I'd literally never play it so it would just be a waste of space. Kind of shocked it's 5 gigs.

Snidely dismissing Nintendo's consoles as gimmicky doesn't change the fact that the Wii consistently sold better than either of its competitors, and had mass market appeal that neither the Xbox 360 nor the PS3 could touch (and lord knows they tried with Kinect and Move). The Wii was a success. I know it kills you to acknowledge this, but hey, it's the truth. Nintendo sold more units and made more money than either of the "killy bang bang cutting-edge awesome graphics but who could tell with all that brown and grey" consoles that competed against it. Gimmick or not, what Nintendo did with the Wii WORKED.

Nintendo's big mistake in this console cycle is that it offered a design that didn't appeal to the casual players that embraced their last system. It's too expensive to be an impulse purchase, and the touchscreen isn't as intuitive or as cathartic as the Wiimote. The hardcore gamers snubbed the Wii U by default, and will continue to do this for every console Nintendo releases, because this is what they do. They bought into the "Nintendo is kiddie!" hokum from the N64 days, and refuse to soil their hands with something so immature... before firing up their Xbox 360s and playing something that's the digital equivalent of pulling the wings off flies.

I'm not convinced Nintendo is well served trying to appeal to this very petulant and demanding audience. In the end they won't support Nintendo systems *anyway*, as the flat sales of Wii U versions of Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect 3 prove. Let Microsoft and Sony have the "real" gamers; they should concentrate on everyone else the industry is so good at shutting out.
Nintendo is failing because they tried to reproduce a one-time huge success, (appealing to the casuals, non-gamers, soccer moms, older people, etc), but failed in a few aspects:

1. They assumed that the same people would once again, buy their system, which even with no software sold, made Nintendo a profit. This didn't happen, at least not nearly to the scale they were banking on.

2. Their messaging was horrible: naming the console "Wii U" was a bad choice, because it not only confused the non-gamers, (many of who thought it was a peripheral for their Wii, which they didn't need); it also conveyed to the people that knew it was a new system that it was a slightly more powerful version of the Wii.

3. They had bad timing: they released a year before MS and Sony. Plus, they launched a console with a second screen, right at the time that standalone tablets were gaining popularity with the social gamers, (and with far cheaper games to boot).

4. They put out a system that was slightly more powerful than what MS and Sony's current gen systems had to offer.

5. They alienated third party developers, where many of the developers found it more cost effective to skip the Wii U, (for current gen games even), than to waste money scaling down a game to a system that wouldn't garner enough sales to be worth porting it.

6. The same third party developers went on to develop for the XBox One and PS4, making it even less in their interest financially to port or scale down to the Wii U.

7. They alienated the "hardcore" crowd, through a lack of popular games that the Xbox 360 and PS3 had, (which are supposed to be a generation behind the Wii U), and the things they did put out were lacking features the other "generation behind" machines had as standard, (multiplayer, for example). It was easier for the "hardcore" crowd to put less money down for a "best" version of the so-called "last gen" MS or Sony console, and have everything they wanted, than it was to spend $350 on a system with a $200 tablet, with little choices for a game library.

8. They overpriced the machine, and tying the tablet peripheral to it was a big mistake. MS is learning this the hard way with Kinect 2.0 on the XBox One.

I'm short, the Wii was a success, but not one that is going to be repeated. At this point, Nintendo would be better off scrapping the Wii U, and offering a rebate to those who purchased it toward the next machine, and making a new console that is closer in design to what MS and Sony have to offer. Even then, they're already behind MS and Sony. They could go software-only. Their unique first party titles would sell like crazy on the PS4 or the One, or even on the iPad.

They *could* go software only. They could also lay down in front of a steamroller, because that would make about as much sense. Someone was talking about brand power earlier, but nobody's brands carry the weight of Nintendo. The only way to play new games starring Mario, Link, Samus, etc. is to play them on Nintendo systems, which means the company's got a captive audience and guaranteed console sales. To take those hugely iconic characters and put them on other systems would cheapen their value and force them to compete with other third parties, instead of having a guaranteed audience.

I think the people who suggest that Nintendo should go third party don't do it with the company's best interests in mind, but are fanboys of the other two consoles who would consider it a victory for their side. It's a petty, short-sighted attitude and it will almost certainly harm the game industry as a whole.

I'm not saying it as a fanboy. I could care less about brand loyalty to a video game console. Going software-only was just one possibility. They are stuck in a hard place, and if they don't do anything, and carry on like it's still the heydays of success, they will be pushed into becoming another Sega, going portable only, or will continue to lose money as more people move on to something else, (that "something else" being a tablet/phone, a competitor's console, or PC gaming). Sparse first party title releases, (as top notch and uniques as they are), alone aren't going to kick start a turnaround for the Wii U. Nintendo needs to do something, and they need to do it sooner, rather than later. It's hard to justify a $350, (or a $300, or even a $250), console purchase simply to play exclusive games like Mario or Zelda. A $60 game disc on a console that also does all the other games? A little better of a "sell", in my opinion l.

Wait, is this the Nintendo thread, the Steam thread, or the XBLM deals thread?!

And I'm ok with Civ Rev since I don't have it.  I'll probably download it and never play it, but what the hell, free's free!

It's weird we haven't gotten an official announcement for the free games. When is that supposed to happen?

On a sidenote, at the very last minute on Tuesday I downloaded Ridge racer unbounded. I am so glad I did, I am loving this game! So fun, and I don't get the complaints about difficulty. Even if you get last you still get a bunch of points for the race and continue to level up and unlock things. Pretty cool system really.

Lastly, I have a quick question. Did anybody think black ops 2 is actually worth $30? I am surprised and shocked to see that it goes for full price at most places! It makes me think we are a couple years away from seeing it officially dropped to $30. What do you guys think?

I actually found it pretty easy to amass game saves that are over 500mb in total. The Orange Box save file is 50mb, after playing Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins and Skyrim long enough each save file for those games can be about 20-25mb, one of the Forza games has a terribly huge save game file as well. It is really annoying too because there's no way to just copy over the whole Cloud Save folder to a certain drive, you have to move each file one at a time which does my head in. But yes Cloud Saves are good especially when you're switching drives. But horrible when you have an internet outage as I did recently, went to play my games but had no access to my save files and I didn't feel like starting anything new, read a book instead.
I use my HD for my saves, and then toss off periodic copies of those saves to the cloud. Like with say NCAA 14, I save my savegames and profile to my HD, and while I might play 2 or 3 games of it in a session, at one point in that gaming session I toss off a copy of my savegame to the cloud. When I'm no longer actively playing that savegame, I remove it from the Cloud. That way I'm getting benefit of cloud backups while still not being crippled by anything should an online problem arise. Besides, there's SUPPOSED to be 500 MB of your HD allocated for local Cloud storage in the case of a loss of internet connectivity, so you could still access stuff. I've never been in that situation before though, so I don't know how well it works. I just know that switching HD's was like eatin' pancakes with having the Cloud storage right there.

Then again, I don't play the vast games library many of you guys do, I stick to a smaller grouping of games. And I don;t play games like Skyrim, which I've heard is a nightmare for trying to put savegames onto Cloud storage.

I would be down with Civ: Rev for GWG I guess. Is it any better than the DS version at least? I bought that really cheap used and was unimpressed (which is too bad, because Portable Civ! Portable Civ is like the gaming dream for me). Been playing Civ for a looooooong time and that version just didn't feel at all like Civ to me really. I have diehard Civ-playing friends though that play lots of Civ: Rev on their 360's even today though, so maybe the DS version just completely blew?

So really, any of Civ: Rev, Ninja Gaiden, and Batman: AA are quality choices all things considered I guess. You can't PAY me to try and play that Ninja Gaiden game because I don't need that level of grief in my life, but that doesn't mean it'd be a crappy GWG free game because I'm sure others out there would tackle it.

Also... I remember back to this last summer and me not wanting to play a certain non-retail title that was GWG early on. Guess what game I've *still* been playing all this time since? Yeah, Defense Grid. Freaking tower defense, a genre I normally despise. You just never know until you fire it up with most games...

RE: Nintendo... I just wish they made better games. Off-TV Play is an awesome feature that needs to happen standard in the next gen of consoles (as a dad with a family in a home where main TV time is precious, the benefits are obvious and huge)... but if there's no games to play using it, there's no point in having it. It's basically Nintendo's SmartGlass at the moment: an awesome feature nobody wants to use/support yet. And you either love Nintendo's first-party titles, or you could care less about them, there is no grey area about them.

I own a Wii mainly for my wife and kids. They rarely play it now, and I play it even less. It just kinda' sits there sadly next to the TV, occasionally gets fired up to play Gamecube games or something (I have a kid w/ Skylanders for it, and he plays that sometimes I guess too). Shoot, even my old PS2 gets used about as often as our Wii does, and I'd also note I play my old original XBox games that same amount. That says a lot, right there. We've also never seriously discussed a Wii U in our family.

We also own several variants of DS's. Were it not for the impressive Professor Layton games and me figuring out how to run emus/roms on the DSi (PORTABLE TECMO SUPER BOWL!), I'm not sure they'd get used much at all outside of one Pokemon-obsessed boy.

Yes I have multiple HDs which is why I like using Cloud Storage as I can otherwise never remember what save files are where. In terms of accessing that 500mb of allocated HD space. I have found that the moment that I am not connected to the internet, which is often in my place as . . . well . . . Australia . . ., my cloud storage folder is disconnected and I cannot access any of the files in that folder without being connected to the internet. So I'm basically screwed. I actually want to copy them all back to my internal 4gb HD and start using that instead but I can't just select all the saves in one go and click transfer, you have to do it one at a time and I just can't be arsed.

Also the new Strider game sucks and probably not even worth $5.
I'm assuming with your name you're a huge Strider fan. Can you elaborate on why it's so bad? It seems to be getting rave reviews from all over. In fact yours is the first negative criticism I've heard about the game. I haven't played it myself but I'd honestly be very interested in knowing why you thought it was so terrible.

Also anyone wondering if they'd be into a Civ game, check out this article on The Escapist - http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/features/11060-You-Never-Move-Your-Settler-Opening-Strategy-Splits-Civ-V-Studio - I think it's amazing how passionate people, especially the developers can be about this game. I'm definitely in their camp, Civ was one of those games I spent ages playing on PC as a kid. And just to be honest I'm also someone who believes in moving a settler a tile or so to a better spot.

the Strider game is not bad. I finished a Hard and a speed run the other day and I enjoyed every moment of it. I get the feeling a lot of the people slamming it are probably getting the shit kicked out of them by stage bosses and can't understand why Strider wasn't re-imagined as an FPS or something. It's not a flawless remake of the original classic but I dont feel it was a waste of $15 at all.

I haven't gotten too far into Limbo yet, but holy hell is it a depressing game. I feel like I need to take periodic breaks or I might find myself in a real life bear trap.

Speaking of depressing games, the other one that I started was Aliens: Colonial Marines. First loading it up, it's almost shocking how mediocre it is graphically. After a little bit of playing you get used to it, and it's not the worst video game experience I've had, but it doesn't look like a game that came out last year.

Thanks for the feedback on BLOPS 2 gents, how are the dlc maps? I only got revolution because it came with the code. Im happy with standoff alone
I might sound fanboyish but all DLCs are pretty great, I'd say possibly the best DLCs the COD series offered. Most of the multiplayer maps are original and unique: some are remakes of Black Ops 1 maps that now look much better, there's even a remake of Stadium from MW3 DLC that looks fantastic now. The new maps like the lava-filled Magma or some of them in the latest DLC are just plain brilliant and very different from anything. The zombie maps are also impressive: they include their own storyline, each and everyone revolutionizes the gameplay from the typical zombie antics (one has you spirit-walking multiple times, another one has you protecting and instructing a giant, and so on). I say that if you play Black Ops 2 regularly, these DLCs are definitely worth getting, and there's plenty of people online using them so it won't be like in many shooters where DLC owners are alienated.

If anyone wants to play some black ops 2 feel free to add me. It's my lazy go to game lately, I only have one DLC though.
Adding you right away, sir.

I have all the DLCs but thankfully the game does a great job of simply turning off the search for servers with DLCs you don't own, and there's a lot of people with not all DLCs in the pack, so there won't be shortage of players.

I think the people who suggest that Nintendo should go third party don't do it with the company's best interests in mind, but are fanboys of the other two consoles who would consider it a victory for their side. It's a petty, short-sighted attitude and it will almost certainly harm the game industry as a whole.
Nope. I want Nintendo to make software for other consoles only to be able to play Fire Emblem games in the consoles of my choice, and don't being forced to buy a handheld only to play them.

This. Plus, I want a Pokemon game on my Xbox, lol.

I remember Nintendo starting that they will never just be a software company so if both of there console and handheld market goes down every series will go down with it, because everyone knows if Nintendo sold games on the cell phone market they would make a ton of money

That may be true, but I highly doubt that their series would go down the drain with the company. I'm pretty sure they would be bought very fast by other companies, and maybe even with a good part of their respective devs.

Obviously, as ArugulaZ stated, I don't give a fuck for Nintendo or any other company wellbeing. I only seek my own benefit, and I only want to own one console and be able to play any game I want on it. Imo the only thing different for every console should be the service that the companies offer to their customers (specs apart), not their games.

That different games policy has annoyed me since the Nintendo (8its)/ Master System era. Though I must admit that in a free, capitalist market, that's the correct thing to do.
I still play Black Ops 2 a lot, it's by far the COD I played the most and I still use it more than Ghosts. There's still tens of thousands of peopls online, 10k or so in the slowest moments, easily 30-40k during peak hours. A great solid community of varied skills.

Oh, and even COD2 or MW1 has its servers online after all these years. Black Ops 2 is in absolutely no risk of getting its servers shut down.
I have never seen it say less than 150k people online. I was playing Monday night about 9:00 est and remember noticing it said there were 195k online.

I feel like Treyarch is defiantly the A game studio on Call of Duty now. I'm excited to see what they bring out next year since I get the feeling Sledgehammer is not going to be making any big changes in the series but maybe they could prove me wrong.

Civilization Revolution and Dungeon Defenders in March

Really regret paying $7.50 for Civ Revolution during the Winter Sale now. I usually try to keep my MS purchases below $5 to avoid buyers remorse down the road.. Oh well, lesson learned

Sweet, I never bought Dungeon Defenders, thats the 3rd game I've gotten out of this promotion which is 3 more than I thought I would :)
Same here, been close to purchasing it but never did. Supposedly the online community is long dead, though I wonder if the game being free will wake it up a little.

Me reacting to Civ Rev being the GwG for March

That's what I get for buying the game during the Holiday sale -_-

Dungeon Defenders is the best tower defense game on Xbox 360. The only problem I had with it, is that modders are EVERYWHERE. It was impossible to play a public match for more than 10 minutes without a guy using crazy modded weapons that murder everything on screen instantly. One of the most satisfying 200/200 I've ever gotten.

I guess there is another problem I had with it. The devs gave up on the XBLA version pretty fast. They added a ton of new content to the PC version that they teased the Xbox version would be getting as well (holiday themed content, new classes, new pets, levels, game modes, etc.). In the end, all we got were some small DLCs and without achievements.

I was hoping Civ rev was the second game offered since I have no interest in Dungeon Defenders. I'll renew my membership later and grab Toy Soldiers too.

Well I'm kinda annoyed. I was excited when it was speculated that it could be Batman AA and Ninja Gaiden 2, but now these two games. BARF!!!! Oh well, hope April is better.

(And to be fair, I already own Dungeon Defenders. Its a fun game)

Another tower defense game... At least it's a good one. Dungeon Defenders should be pretty fun.

Not excited for Civ, but that's okay - can't win them all.

That South Park game is my favorite tower defense on 360.

Dungeon Defenders basically necessitates co-op play, which I didn't much care for since I prefer to play single player.

yeah Nintendo i know has stated that if they go down everything nintendo wise will go down with them that includes mario, the legend of zelda, pokemon. They absolutely refuse to develop anything on a different console, i think the closest thing is that rumor that they will make demos on phones, but only sell the full game on the 3ds

Only on the harder difficulties.

South Park was ok, but it didn't have enough content to keep me playing for months.

Well, at least I don't own either of them. Free is free.

Dungeon defenders has 4 small DLC's. Wonder if they will go on sale with the game.
