This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I'm going to check on this Sanctum 2 update thing, which seems promising right now with the 792 MB update it just prompted me to download. I'll report back once it's done and I can test it out.

I was watching 24 on 360 Netflix and something great happened that doesn't happen on PC or X1. If you aren't familiar with 24, it wasn't made for binge watching. There is a 2 minute of "previously on 24" every episode.

When an episode ended on 360 and the next episode started, it skipped that part and went straight to the actual start of the episode.

This needs to come to X1 and PC.

I have never gotten into the Soul Caliber games....is Soul Caliber V much better than the other titles?
Noooooo..no, no. Nope.

Unless you're really into the character creation system. Or literally only play online. SCV puts an emphasis on online to the exclusion of any remotely worthwhile or engaging singleplayer experience. As for the fighting itself, I'm not a big fighting games guy so take this with a grain of salt, but it feels less fluid than previous games. And far as I can tell, Taki's replacement can't jump over people's heads.

I can confirm that the update for Sanctum 2 that helps make it a bit easier and more fair to play is there, as I had 15 towers to work with to help me beat the fourth level in the game that had given me so much trouble around launch. That means the other stuff in the update should be there. If that update was the deciding factor, then it should be well worth the purchase now.

I have Sanctum 2, Giana Sisters, and Capsized on the PC (probably included in cheap Steam Bundles I bought). Is there any reason I'd want to pay $5 each for the XBL versions over the Steam ones?
I haven't played Sanctum 2 on PC, but if you have to create your own server to play with friends, like in a ton of PC games, then I'd say that is a huge disadvantage compared to XBL version depending on your situation. For me and my friends, creating servers rarely works. I got it to work once in GMOD and then the next day it stopped working. For the past half year I've been using dorm internet where you can't even change router settings, so playing private matches in most PC games doesn't happen unless they are G4WL.

Capsized doesn't appear to support the X360 controller, so that gives the XBL version an advantage over the PC. The other 2 I'm not aware of any advantage. IMHO, Steam games have a huge advantage over XBL or PSN games because Steam hasn't said they are going to stop supporting all of our games in less than 3 years as both MS and Sony have said they will do. Unfortunately neither company has been specific if stop supporting means simply taking away online multiplayer (which I could live with) or if it means something far worse like cutting off old consoles from online access, removing all old games from download servers, etc. Until they give the details I'm assuming the worst so I'm buying as little as possible from XBL or PSN lately.

Hexodius has poor reviews, and Foul Play has decent ones though Foul Play's gameplay looks pretty repetitive to me. Is Foul Play worth $5?
Played the trial, and it felt dull and repetitive. Personally, wont be buying that.

Much appreciated. Thanks for looking into this. I can easily recommend it to some friends for 4-player co-op now! :bouncy:

Yep, now it is, it wasn't on tuesday. Dunno when it came back.
Yeah, it wasn't there, I remember.

Must have been re-added for achievements to coincide with the sale. Smart decision on their part.

Thanks Frisky.

Looks like they actually put effort into the patch, I respect that and them keeping their promise even if it took a few months. Might buy it on 360 after all.

At least they patched their shit unlike Capsized devs.

I'll have to play the trial for Sanctum 2 and purchase it if I like it. Thanks to everyone for confirming the update and DLC achievements were added.

Dungeon Defenders (the second free GwG for March) is now available to download for free.
Doesn't look like Dungeon Defenders' DLC is on sale. Damn, that's disappointing. The lack of associated GWG sales is just kinda greedy. Why not put your DLC that nobody buys on sale? I mean, Civ Rev had a bunch, and Dungeon Defenders has plenty.

Yeah it certainly sucks, wish they continued to put the respective DLC on sale with the GWG like they did awhile back. That said, not sure if I'm even going to bother downloading dungeon defenders lol.

Exactly. And that's understandable, as long as you "buy" it so it's in your purchase history. I think the last GWG I downloaded was Sleeping Dogs, which was nice to have because a friend of mine from Hungary bought it a while back for $5, but the border patrol has been known to be needlessly aggressive. :)

Something about Dungeon Defenders makes me not like the game. Seems like way too much micromanagement, and the characters move way too slow. I was hoping for more of a Gauntlet style game, but it seems like tower defense drawn in smeared crayons with a glowing haze that hurts my eyes.

I think I like the pacing of Monday Night Combat more than other similar action/tower defense games. Can anyone comment on the pacing of Sanctum?

The first few rounds tend to be a tad slow, since that's when most of the tower placing/maze building happens. Once you move onto actually fighting the wave the pacing is really intense and fast, and the round starts moving faster the more waves you clear because about halfway through you're done building towers/mazes and are just upgrading what you've placed. I haven't played MNC so I can't comment on how it compares (wasn't even aware that was a TD/FPS combo) but I think the pacing is pretty good in Sanctum with rounds typically taking about 20-30 minutes each (which feels like just long enough to get a feel for the map without it becoming dull/repetitive).

Soul Calibur V is arguably the worst (I've never played Soul Calibur 3 so I can't say if that one is better or worse). If you didn't like SC4 or SC2 then you should just give up on the whole series.

I disagree....V is mechanically quite solid.....it simply lacks 80% of the modes found in previous titles and the storyline is broken in every place and quite a few fan favorite characters are missing as a result but mechanically it is quite a solid game and for the sale price this week it really is hard to hate.

show this series some love people so hopefully a SCVI comes to pass.

I dunno, five Soul Cals and a handful of spin-offs is probably enough for me.

What sold me on SC V is that it's got super moves, possibly for the first time ever. I think everyone's finally agreed that fighting games should have super moves. Even Mortal Kombat has them now, if the X-Ray Attacks count.

So, customization in this game is supposed to be pretty good. Just how good are we talking here? Are there a lot of accessories for your custom character to wear?

All of them are mechanically solid, so I am not sure why you're disagreeing with me. The lack of modes, the unpolished feel, and the awful new characters definitely makes it the worst IMO. I still enjoyed the game, just like I enjoyed the previous games in the series, but when I rank them #5 is the bottom of the barrel. I am curious to see how you rank them.

For me:

SC2 > SC4 > SC > SC5

Now I have to confess, I ranked SC2 a hair higher than SC4 because of nostalgia. SC4 is by far the most enjoyable title in the series.

I have to agree with Ooga/MrZombieChicken.  On the surface, SCV *should* be the best of the bunch, but something about it just didn't click.  And the story mode is by far and without a doubt the wost of the series.  The one thing that V did very good was character customization.  I spent a lot of time tweaking my fighters and had fun with it.

I'll say the rank order is SC4 - SC2 - SC - SC5 - SC3

Dungeon Defenders is pretty damn fun, if you have friends. It becomes almost unmanageable alone with only one character (if you pick anything other than Squire). That said, the PC version is vastly superior due to the support it's received over its forgotten, console brethren.

Does anybody know whether Child of Light will be a retail game or a xbla game? Just watched the trailer on my dashboard and the game intrigued me quite a bit. Usually im not into "those" sort of games, but this one presented me with a different look into the genre.

Guess I'm screwed

What do you mean by "those" sort of games? #StopThePrejudice

LOL, nah I saw a lot of Limbo in the game. I could not tell you what type of game that is. Platformer? Puzzle? Its a combination of different genres. Basically the game looks good and Limbo was the first thing that came to mind when I was watching the trailer.

XBLA for $15
Thank you. Will very much consider a day 1 purchase.

I think it's a metroidvania with turn-based combat, which isn't something I've actually seen before. Honestly though I'm mostly considering buying it solely based on how freaking gorgeous it looks (Ubiart Framework is the greatest thing ever)

Yep I'm in the same boat as let me guess: it's local co-op only?

What's the file size on it? Need to see if it's even worth downloading on my shrinking 320 GB Slim HDD.
1.39gb. Hmmm, about local co-op (it does have online co-op up to 4 players), I wonder if it's split-screen or in the same screen (my tv isn't big enough to play split-screen).

edit: fuck, it's split-screen.

Finally a new free game that I didn't already have.  My gold is going to run out soon and I don't plan on renewing so I'm glad I was able to get at least 1 more.  Plus my hard drive is almost full, I've got about 15GB of 250 left so it's just as well.

Anyone know if it's possible to plug in headsets like these Turtlebeaches to an AV receiver such as this?
If those specs on the receiver are right, then yeah, but those user reviews sound terrible... and if you ever wanted to move up to the [simulated] surround sound headsets (which I'd highly suggest instead of stereo-only ones) then you're screwed by that receiver only having Composite or HDMI output because they require a TOSlink/Optical output. You could circumvent that by plugging the surround set directly into your 360 since it has an Optical jack built right into it, but if instead the receiver you plan on using has one, then for most setups you can listen to anything that's plugged into your receiver through your headphones (be it, your blu-ray player, Playstation(s), and even your cable box) and that seems far more versatile and like you're getting your moneys worth comparatively.

tl;dr Yes that combination will work, but a quick logic-check & spec overview makes that receiver seem like a waste of money that's going to give you headaches in the short or longterm... unless of course that's the receiver you already have, then I guess you can disregard the majority of my response and be on your way.

Korea and Brazil are getting better freebie - Banjo-Tooie.
What the fuck? They actually acknowledge the game exists and they don't offer it to the crowd that would get them a million subs for it?

Very tempted to region-jump for this one, I've been waiting on a sale for this one since I signed up for live on my 360 (Jan 2011, yep, I know there was a sale for it in Dec 2010, I just missed it.)

Why do the replacement games always turn out to be so good?

It's a turn-based RPG:

Ubisoft® confirmed today that Child of Light™ will release on April 30, 2014 and has also released a new trailer for the turn based RPG set in the magical world of Lemuria. The game will be available for download for $14.99 on Microsoft Xbox LIVE for the Microsoft Xbox® 360 and Microsoft Xbox® One, the Sony PlayStation Network for the Sony PlayStation® 3 and Sony PlayStation® 4, the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U, and Steam for PC and is rated “Everyone 10+.”

The game is created by a small team of seasoned developers based in Ubisoft Montreal. Child of Light has been developed on Ubisoft’s UbiArt Framework, a powerful engine that lets programmers and artists bring their art to life by allowing original concept art to be inserted unedited into the game world. In Child of Light, the effect is that playing becomes akin to stepping into an interactive painting.

Child of Light is a reimagining of classic fairytales, inviting players on an epic adventure into the magical painted world of Lemuria. Players will uncover mysteries, participate in turn-by-turn combat inspired by classic JRPGs, and explore a mystical kingdom. The game puts players in the shoes of Aurora, a child stolen from her home, who, in her quest to return, must bring back the sun, the moon and the stars held captive by the mysterious Queen of the Night. Helped by her companion Igniculus the firefly and several unlikely allies, Aurora will face her darkest fears, including dragons and other mystical creatures in this modern take on a coming-of-age story.

Yes, I looked through afterwards and just decided to buy a normal headset for chat (that's what I primarily needed). The sound's good enough from my setup and yes I have a similar receiver, I just couldn't remember the model so I found one that's close to it.

And yes, I have everything plugged into the receiver.

WOW! That trailer looks absolutely amazing....visually at least. I hope the gameplay holds up as well. Even with the massive backlog I have, I am really looking forward to this one.
