This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

One more week of bad sales before E3?
Of course!! What else do you expect from Microsoft?

The June survey for XBL Rewards is up, and there's a new punchcard for using apps in June. Use a new app (not previously downloaded to your account) for 5 hours to get a punch, 5 punches is 2,000 credits.
Thanks for the info. Jumped on and did my survey and I'm gonna fire up the 360 to download an app and start my progress towards 5 hours as I go do some chores in the backyard

Ok, this is a cry for help:

I currently live in Argentina. Years ago, when I purchased my 360, Argentina didn't have a local marketplace for the 360, so I had to create a US account to play online and buy stuff. Many months ago I found that I was unable to buy some items from the console and from the web (I think this was since Argentina local store for Xbox was created), but could circunvent this using a VPN to get US IP and buy from the web (never from the console itself). Now, I can't even do that. Also, never tried to use the VPN on the console itself since I knew you can get banned. Xbox.com site seems to know my 360 last IP and doesn't let me buy stuff.

I'm angry as hell as I want to "buy" Dark Souls (it's free for GOLD members). I don't want to migrate the account to Argentina for many reasons:

1. Have a lot of cash left on Microsoft account that I didnt spend since Xbox sales are crap.

2. I really dont know if digital codes (Xbox cash, gold suscriptions or DLC) will be valid as I don't know if they are the same in my country. I had terrible experience using EU codes on US accounts.

3. Prices are really overinflated here. All costs double. It's crazy. Microsoft robs us and the government loves it.

Can anyone help me or at least comment on the subject to make me feel I'm not alone or at least understood?

You're all alone. Horribly, horribly alone. Here in the US, we laugh at the Games with Gold as we drink Dom Perignon from crystal chalices. We even pour it out for our dead homies. Sorry, friend. You should move to the US.

Well I tried Dark Souls and I already gave up.The game is just not meant for me.It was going smooth until I took a turn somewhere and this Black Knight looking guy was just standing still so I thought he was a NPC or something but NOPE I get close and he starts swinging his giant Sword/Polearm and kills me in 2 hits. After that I ignored him and just kept running and what do you know he was chasing me the entire time and kills me again.Third time I also ignore and he is chasing me again so I go through a door covered in fog and this giant boss called the Taurus Demon appears and murders me in one hit. After that I got killed like 10 more times by the boss and I just quit.

I'll stick to my easy games that I can enjoy and not a game that will make me throw the controller out the window.

Stop trying to run around no scoping everything bro.

I was playing pretty fine until I fought that guy and my sword did no damage so I did what sounded like the best idea at the moment and that was to run. :whistle2:?
do you fight the frost giant as young thor without mjolinir and only weidling jarnjborn or you do come back with the power of all the father and arm of the destroyer and weilding your deepest friend in battle and fight him again?

common sense dude

Surprised Dark Souls is less than 4 GB for so long of a game.

I just Googled "How long to beat" and Dark Souls popped up without me even typing it in. :) Must be a lot of folks checking today.

50 hours is the average BTW.

"the power of all the father" lol

Max and Spartan Assault will kick in on the June 9th update.
System update?

That pretty much suggests that you will have to activate the free games through the console.

Why else would they require a system update?

That would suck, I was hoping we'd be able to activate them through the website like PS+.

This. Don't know shit about Norse mythology, but i got the point and anyone playing Dark Souls should do too.

And it has so much replay value.

Or get rekt, constantly.

I think you're jumping to conclusions here. It may or may not be tied to when their update goes out. Could be as easy as flipping the switch for the site. Wait and see I suppose.

Well I don't have the patience to play a game as tedious as Dark Souls is too me.I get that a lot of people love this game but It is just not for me.

Yeah, I got wrecked entirely too often in Demon's Souls. I must have spent at least forty hours with that game, and that experience made it pretty clear that the series wasn't for me. If you love the games, go nuts, but just understand that they won't appeal to everyone.

yeah thats pretty much this game its just any standard RPG but imagine you're fighting ultima at the beginning of the game instead at the end

After your first playthrough you'll be beating it in 5-10 hours if you don't do the side stuff.

 I read this and couldn't stop laughing. So what people say is true huh? I don't know if I'm even going to try it now.

We have some hardcore gamers in this thread. I wont even touch Dark Souls until I don't have the physical strength to not break my controller by slamming it or worse. Of all the games Ive played in my life( and its nothing compared to the users on CAG) I don't think there hasn't been one where I completely enjoyed from start to finish and didn't get upset/pissed off for one moment.

I live in Australia but moved here from Canada with my NTSC Xbox 360 about 3 years ago. With the exception of a few mistakes on the marketplace in Australia (one time COD: Black Ops was for sale for $2.95 on the Aussie marketplace and another time the same thing with Max Payne 3) the prices are ridiculous. They'll be a 70% of sale on something like Bioshock Infinite which will make it $9.95 on the US marketplace but still $35 on the Aussie one. It annoys me. And for the longest time I kept my Canadian account until they started offering GWG and I found that I had issues downloading things to my xbox due to VPN. But then my system was also a NTSC system so I ran into trouble as I couldn't download certain things I purchased (looking at you Resident Evil 4) or some sweet deals I was finding on disc games here locally (Catherine for instance which is a game I so wanted to play). And so I recently bought a cheap PAL system for $50 and have now started to enjoy some of the games I've been missing out on due to region locking (Rage is another such game as is of Orcs and Men). Although for some reason Resident Evil 4 just doesn't work at all (need to call Microsoft about that one).

But yes, in the days of MS points being available on Amazon and some of them being region free (I think the 800 MSP was) I had a few other accounts for various regions, Hungary and the USA mostly and would download stuff through them. Before the Oman Wars there was a good website for telling you what was or wasn't region free that Wallace Suka ran, but I think he got his console banned during the Oman Wars and has stopped updating the thread. Now with the loss of MSP it's harder for international gamers seeking a fair go. Digital pricing makes no sense when there's no import fees - it should be flat across the world as Gog.com and other sites have tried to offer means of doing. I know that certain places like Brazil get just raped when it comes to buying hardware and software physically - not sure if it's the same on their digital marketplace. It was great to see that the Xbone is region free - hopefully the Xbox 360 will be the last generation of region locked consoles. While prices have come down a lot in Australia since I've moved here on physical copies of games, owing to an Aussie dollar that's often been on par with the US, the Xbox marketplace just doesn't appreciate that and still offers plenty of games that are 5 years old for an $80 price tag when they are surely at least down to $30 on the US marketplace. When these games go on sale for 75-80% off that means Americans get them for $5 but I'm still paying $20.

I keep thinking of switching my account back to a Canadian or American. I need to do it at some point to download some DLC for You Don't Know Jack that I didn't think would be unavailable in my region to redownload. But then I worry that during those 3 months where my account can't be migrated some amazing game will come out on GwG and I'll be shit out of luck unable to get it. Basically it sucks balls. As you said MS used to not be so on the ball with various VPNs but now it's impossible to get that to work so I can even buy things through the website and as such I haven't bothered with VPNs for ages. Anyways, no suggestions, just wanted to let you know that I totally feel your pain. Aussie gamers have the added bonus that we often have versions of games where content is cut and due to that there is sometimes compatibility issues. For instance do I import a copy of Saint's Row IV from overseas so I can get the added content and be able to play it online with a bigger community or do I grab a local copy so I can play it with my nephews in Australia? I hate having to make these decisions and it's unfair to charge me more for a game that has less value in that I can only play it with a smaller community of players and it has less content (yes not much less but still less).

So I'm sending you a big cuddle from across the pond here. Sorry I can't do more (though that cuddle is probably scary enough)

From what I've played of Demon's Souls and watched on Twitch of Dark Souls II I would think running from enemies is not a great approach. If something isn't working the first 5 or 10 times I think it might be a good time to switch strategies or come back later when you're stronger if it's possible. It's all about learning from your mistakes and not rushing. I look forward to trying out Dark Souls eventually.

System update?

That pretty much suggests that you will have to activate the free games through the console.

Why else would they require a system update?

That would suck, I was hoping we'd be able to activate them through the website like PS+.
I was hoping it'd be like PS+ too so that if I buy X1 someday, I'll have the Gold free rental games previously added to my account to play with. Guess this will make me even less interested in X1. MS this gen is all f'ed up. They were truly the best back in the original Xbox and Xbox 360 days. Bought both of their systems at launch. Now, they are bleh.

Well I don't have the patience to play a game as tedious as Dark Souls is too me.I get that a lot of people love this game but It is just not for me.
As you get older, your mental agility will diminish and your physical abilities will atrophy, but there's no reason why you can't still play harder games. Don't let a video game beat you. When I started on Demon's Souls I got my ass handed to me constantly and it only got me more pumped to murder those cretins. A computer beating me? I am a man! Computers were made by man. Be John Connor, not the guy who only got half a second of screen time because he exploded into gibs while trying to throw a grenade.

You do know that back in the original Xbox days and early Xbox 360 days, Microsoft didn't give away free/rental games every month either, right? Even though it would be cool to give the Games with Gold titles to people who don't own the Xbox One yet, they are under no obligation to do so.

Any way to tell which apps are included in the rewards punchcard? I didn't see anything on the site specifying which ones are counted. And what counts as using an app, just leaving it open for five hours?

Also, since I have a rewards acct, but never actually used ir even looked at it before, what do you get for the 2000 points?

Yep.
Don't try to brute force it if you don't understand how things work yet. Try to figure out what magics/enchantments or weapon types are effective against enemies you're having difficulty dealing with. Hell, a bunch of people here are playing this game for the first time. This is a great opportunity for some jolly cooperation.
If all else fails, summon a sunbro.

yeah thats pretty much this game its just any standard RPG but imagine you're fighting ultima at the beginning of the game instead at the end
It really is hardest at the beginning. Unless you're doing a level 1 or Belmont run or something.

2000 points is $2 of Microsoft Currency. I'm going to be using the Gamespot, Twitch and Amazon Apps for the first time, and will post if those earn me any punchcards. If others could do the same we would at least be aware of which ones do and don't work until they let us know officially.

Yeah I'm close to 5,000 points. Couldn't sleep so I filled out my Survey. Man that sucks for the punchcard, have already downloaded a bunch of apps. I wonder if the apps you had downloaded onto your Xbox 360 already counts against your Xbox One choices.

I Like how people were all happy that there's three GwG games this month, but it might as well be the usual two since I know a good majority of people are just going to play Dark Souls for 15 minutes to an hour and just say "fuck this game!" and delete it off their HDD.

Well thanks, now I know I'm not alone. Microsoft sucks. I hate them so much.

I was looking forward to this one and I was super disappointed when it ended up getting canceled.

you and me both, buddy. MM2 remake and custom user content... that Ryu announcement... I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a cancellation in my life. :(

Im pretty sure its console specific. The last time this reward was running, I remember using Netflix for the first time on the Xbox One and got the punch for it, after already downloading and using it for the Xbox 360 in the past.

Basically, go to your purchase history, filter to app and all that appears there won't count. The rest will do. (Not aware of the console specific thing).

Still i'm reluctant to keep my xbox idle 25 hours for 2$ (not an app guy at all)

When you put it that way it doesn't sound quite so good if you're not using those apps anyway. Then again I think I have 25 hours of downloading in my queue from recent purchases. :oldman:

Just a FYI if you had a disc based dark souls save it's not compatible with the new GWG version. I'm sure MS is aware of the situation, but I had to put in my disc to play off my old save. Kept getting errors.

Obviously if you never played the game before It's not a big deal but just giving the heads up. Don't freak out, It's a known issue.
It's still somewhat of a big deal since the problem is related to the game not being updated and there being no way to download the patch. So if you're playing right now, you're playing without any of the several patches that came out post-release that made some fairly significant changes. I guess that's good if you want/know how to use pre-patch exploits to trivialize the game, but bad if you don't.

If I'm not mistaken, you get like half the souls off enemies in the unpatched version of the game just as one example of how people playing this version would be losing out right now.

If you don't at least try Dark Souls you are doing yourself a disservice! This is a game that ended up being one of my favorites last gen. It is hard, you will die, but stick with it. After beating the game you just want to jump back in and beat it again. I've only completed 2 playthroughs so far, but love sticking around Anor Londo helping people with O&S. Good times!!! I will be starting a new character to help others for this tho!!

I downloaded the NHL Center app and it ran for 5+ hrs yesterday. Will check the reward site in a bit to see if it's registered yet to give ya'll an update. Also, don't download the W Network app(wrestling) unless you have a paid WWE account($9.99 per month). Asks you to sign in once you open the app and if you're not a member, its a waste of an app since you'll have to exit if you can't do so.

Does this apply to the on demand version in general? Would explain the amount of glitches I encountered when I played the digital version last year.
