This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Alright, I bit on Bioshock Infinite and Bioshock 2...even though I'm doubtful wether I'll really get into them that extra $15 in my account was begging me to spend it on something...

FYI if you are going to use a non-MS hard drive, you will not be able to play downloaded xbox originals from the marketplace. Google it
Incorrect, as long as you install the emulation partition they should work fine. But that does happen if you don't install that partition. I don't have any downloaded originals so I won't be able to test that, but I do have an on-disc Xbox game I can check my install with.

that's good news! i would love to replace my 320gb with a 500gb. thank you for correcting me (i was researching it during the ultimate games sale).

For anybody with an XBOX ONE, I was browsing the marketplace and noticed trials fusion is $19.99. this isn't regular price, is it? i know the retail disc is $39.99. i also saw outlast for $19.99. i happened to notice these when i was going to buy PvZ.

So i purchase the walking dead season 2 season pass on sale for $7.49 and im not sure how it works. Do i have to purchase the first episode for $4.99 additional? Then i download the remaining episodes in game? if thats the case not as good deal as i thought lol

Yeah, you have to purchase the first episode separate. Microsoft sent me a code for the first episode, and since I already have the Season Pass on PS3, I'd be willing to send you the code they gave me. I'm not gonna use it for anything.

Those are normal prices. The Trials Fusion retail version comes with the $20 season pass.

I paid 8.09 after tax 😁 I need the first episode also.. Yeah, that's how it works

As far as I know no one has ever been banned for using a modded hard drive, but obviously I am not MS so YMMV. There are many folks in the DigiEx thread who have been using them for a long time on Live with no problems. I'm about to pull the trigger on getting a WD5000LPVX so I can try this out myself.
I thought only 320 GB of space would be usable. The rest would be pretty much wasted, right?

dude that would be awesome if you can spare that code thank you for the help.

I have some MS credit burning in my pocket thanks to Gamestop and I'm on the fence about buying PvZ. Is the community still active? Does it have some offline modes (against bots)? Is the couch co-op mode any good?

I picked up Skyrim and Gears 3. I already own Gears 3 on disc. I'll probably never get around to playing Skyrim, but it will look nice next to my 150+ unplayed xbla and GoD games. I haven't turned on my gaming pc since last year. This site has taught me well.

On Xbone? Yeah it's still alive and kicking.

There's a co-op horde mode and Garden Ops that can be played solo but there's no real single player or just DM with bots. You also have to have Gold and be online to even start the game so there's no real single player.

GoW3 along with season pass can take up 10g on your HD.  As much as I love the game I'd rather stick to physical copy. And I need space on my HD with so many games acquired.  Huh I don't remember buying so many games from one sale. *my gracious 'thanks' to GS promo.

...and Battleblock Theater!

Can anyone tell me if I should get Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas? What's more engaging to get more? Should I get both? I've heard Fallout 3 was better though.

Can anyone confirm this? I want to play some Burnout 3.

Get both.

Haven't played New Vegas, but most people told me at least its an improvement over Fallout 3.

Folks would say both, two of them are great games and they're almost the same. If you're set on getting only one game than get Fallout 3.

Last minute question because I want to come away from this sale with something after all of that, is Trials Fusion worth the extra eight dollars over Evolution? I'm also planning on getting an Xbox One in the next few months and could get Fusion then, if that makes a difference.

Since Bioshock stuff is on sale this week and Bioshock: Infinite is still on sale...

I'll agree with everyone else, Bioshock: Infinite is a must by at that price. And I wouldn't say that you have to play Bioshock 1 & 2 before Infinite, but I highly recommend doing so (Especially since 1 & 2 are on sell right now for $5 each. Seriously, go buy them! What are you waiting for?). Bioshock is hands down my favorite game of all time. Bioshock 2 is pretty much just more of the first game, only with better gameplay but a less interesting story and characters. Bioshock: Infinite pretty much has it all. Great gameplay, story and characters. The only thing is was missing is Rapture, and that's the only reason Bioshock remains my favorite.

So to anyone that hasn't played this series yet, would you kindly do yourself a favor and play it already?

Get both, it's one of those same but different things. If you were only getting one I would probably get New Vegas because while it has more issues it also has more flavor to it which is typical of Obsidian games.

I had more fun with New Vegas. Thought 3 was kind of boring and struggled to get through the story. New Vegas I borrowed from a friend for a weekend and ended up finishing it a few times. Both were loaded with glitches. They are pretty much same game in different location, so I have no idea why NV was actually fun to me.

People should be aware that buying one off eBay that has been formatted and had all the partitions installed still might not have the emulation partition. I own two cheap 320gb HDs I bought off eBay and neither of them can play Xbox Originals. And for some reason there are a few other Xbox 360 games that need that partition too. For some reason I can't seem to run the GoD version of Crysis off any USB stick or the cheapy HDs (though now that I'm thinking it might work on a USB stick if I had my legitimate HD in there - but it's a 60GB one and mostly useless because of that so I don't get it out much).

as much as I loved Fallout 3, New Vegas has a much better story imo and it plays almost exactly like Fallout 3 with some minor tweaks here and there. But yeah...play both. FO 3 is a goddamn experience. The first time you walk outside the Vault and the world opens up to you....gaming magic.

the online is still active and there is no bots its a wave defense mode for solo/split screen

How long before the prices on the games in the summer sale go back to normal? Wanna sleep on this before I make another purchase (if any).

When New Vegas first came out, it was a glitchy mess. I'm pretty sure there have been updates that fixed a good part of them since. Pre-patch, I still gave it a playthrough and still enjoyed it.

the 360 plays nothing backwards-compatible at 100%. if an original game does work, it will be glitchy and have issues with sound and/or video. why not just play it on an xbox original system? theyre not that expensive.

Yeah, it's a lot better (though not like on PC where fan patches live). All Bethesda games on that engine (Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion) you quickly learn to save every couple minutes though.

I think the difference with FO3 and NV is that most people essentially played NV after putting 100 hours into FO3 and it really doesn't do anything amazing graphically or gameplay wise to set itself apart. It is more fun to play due to the various stories being better and the game itself having a better sense of humour, but FO3 did have an amazing story to begin with. While I love them both I have to admit that there was something about FO3 that really made me connect more to that game. Maybe it was the opening sequence where you pretty much watch your character grow from birth before the Vault opens and the vista of a destroyed D.C. landscape saturates your vision. It feels more epic and the world engaged me more because of that.

Ultimately NV feels in some ways like a mod - a really good one - one that rivals the original. But beyond delivering a hardcore mode that forces you to play more strategically and also adds weight to ammunition it just didn't add enough to separate itself from the original. I still find myself thinking of my time spent in the DC Wasteland of FO3 whereas I don't have those thoughts about NV. But maybe that's just me. I'm someone who preferred Batman: Arkham Asylum to Arkham City. I'm someone who preferred Ass Creed 1 to any of the others that came after it (though I've never played Ass Creed IV). So take what I'm saying with that in mind.

If I have one complaint about FO3 is that I wish the level cap had been raised beyond 30 (you need the Broken Steel DLC to get the cap increased to 30). I got there quickly (well okay after 70 hours) but it sort of stopped me from caring about certain things I had been caring about along the way. At least NV gets you up to 50 if you have all the DLC installed.

But for $10 just grab both Fallout games. They are amazing 100 hour experiences for $5 each. And the DLC for both are brilliant and add dozens of hours on top of the original experience.

Agreed on most counts.

For all of you would-be first time Wasteland adventurers though, watch out for two things: Albino Radscorpions (Fallout 3) and, the worst/most hideous enemy ever created, Cazadors (New Vegas). If you see any of these creatures and are without extremely high powered weaponry...run. RUN.

Last minute question because I want to come away from this sale with something after all of that, is Trials Fusion worth the extra eight dollars over Evolution? I'm also planning on getting an Xbox One in the next few months and could get Fusion then, if that makes a difference.
I'd just go with Evo for now. Pick up fusion on the xb1 when you get it.

The demo (rated 1,337 times on XBL) is multiplayer only with 1 map and 1 game mode I think. I'm surprised people are still playing an 8 year old demo.

Full game has 2 campaigns. Thanks to the map maker (actual maker, not editor like Halo series) and great community, there are over 4,000 custom maps (plus a ton not on that website, including about 10 from me) . 5 game modes that come with the game and a bunch of community variants (similar to how people made their own games in Halo 2 before you had a ton of custom game options).

The achievements are rough though. I was able to get all the multiplayer achievements without boosting, but I'm not sure if the game is still active anymore, especially with everybody using party chat. Some community variants would be completely ruined with party chat. I probably played several thousand hours of multiplayer. The offline achievements suck because difficulty achievements don't stack and they put collectables (300 I think) in ridiculous locations.
Several thousand hours? Jesus Christ. Do you play other games, or is this some OCD Rain Man thing?

You are literally the only person I've ever seen recommend that game.

We played it almost daily for years. Some sleepless weekends. Download a few good course maps and you'll lose a few weeks or, if you really want to get addicted, make your own map. I think my first course map took about 2-3 years to complete with several hundred hours testing it.

Whenever a friend buys it, the other people on my friends list that own it and I, spend a few months playing with them. My gamerscore usually slows down severely during this time. Luckily/sadly not many people buy it anymore

This is exactly what I wanted to say. I totally agree.

Didn't know DotW was supposed to be Bioshock again. :/ I sold my disc copy of BI, so buying it now again just for few short dlc's is not worth it.

Cobsidering this week's weak deals (not season pass deal on Infinite, meh), I'm thinking about buying TWD:S2's season pass and/or skate 2 (which in Spain at least is 4,99€ and not 3,74 as it is on US$), but if anything Microsoft has taught me is that a deal will always come back sooner or later, and probably cheaper or even as GwG. I think I'll pass on them then.

I bought Prince of Persia for 3,74€ and CoJ Gunslinger for the same price at the very last moment of last week's deal though.

BTW, speaking about Bioshock Infinite, the Columbia's finest pack DLC is NOT included in the season pass, so maybe just buying that now and waiting for the SP to be on sale is a good option. And if it doesn't you can always buy it at full price and you'd still be saving $2,50.

Man, I want to splurge on the $40 KI bundle and only see a $5 sale on it back in May.  I have a feeling we're going to see another sale whenever Season 2 starts, I just hope it's better than $5 off.  Especially since the Season 2 characters are probably going to be another $40 with all the add-ons.
