XBL subscription cards - don't work with existing accounts for renewals?

i've been looking on ebay and a lot of the auctions (particularly the 12 month + 1 month extra ones) explicitly say that the cards they are selling "don't work with existing accounts for renewal...only for brand new accounts"

is this for all subscription cards or just the 12+1 ones or what?

They should work as renewals. I bought the camera pack that included it since they are so damn cheap and it worked as a renewal.

Some of the Ebay sellers are *gasp* shady and i've heard that all official MS cards DO work for renewals........just a heads up!

The ones that are sold on Ebay have some weird activation problem with existing accounts. Something about them not being activiated at a retailer makes them not work on existing accounts? Yeah, along the lines of that. It gives you an error code and if you look that code up on the Xbox support forums you'll find your reason for the problem.
