XBLA - Shadow Complex - 1200pts

I've been playing it since last week. Great game. It is being overhyped just a bit, though. I'd still say Symphony of the Night is a better game in this style (also on XBLA), but Shadow Complex is definitely fun and worth the $15.
I have been playing the game since last week and it is my favorite Xbox Live Game to date. The game is well worth it at 15 bucks and it will make every other game on live seem overpriced by comparison.
Hoe big is the download?

It may be over hyped but it does seem like an Xbox Live Arcade game worth playing. But I hear it pays "homage" towards too many titles like Metroid.

Just watched that Giant Bomb playthrough video...holy crap, this looks good.

Until Splosion Man, I hadn't bought an XBLA game since Braid. Looks like I'm in for another one!

Gonna pick up a points card just for this game. They could release this game on a disc and sell it for $19.99 and people would still buy it.

I would prefer it on a disc!

What's wrong with that? Kids everywhere went nuts for 3D action/platform games with always-inferior variable camera systems and this genre of 2D/2.5D gaming has died a premature death. Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night need a lot more "homage".

So did I. The game looks great. I really wanna check it out.

Symphony of the Night is also ten dollars less, and according to that 9.4-review from IGN (*sigh*), "Exploring every little path to find it all in one play through will take you around six hours," which is significantly shorter than SotN, regardless of how many times "larger" Shadow Complex's world is.

I'm waiting for the demo before I decide.

SOTN is $10. So only $5 cheaper.

On NeoGAF, I've heard numerous times that the game is around 900 megs.

There was a message aout the game early on, that it'd be about 2 gigs worth of material, and I assume the 900 download is the result of everything undergoing compression.

Not much worse than most 360 Demos.

Aside from the hefty price tag the game is really good and also good enough to compete with retail games if it wasn't an xbox live game. Although it is well worth your money good game

2 am pst wed morning

I beat the game in right around six hours. Finding all the upgrades took 11 hours. The proving grounds will take a good long while to beat as well, providing you're a good enough player to actually complete them. The gameplay also changes pretty drastically on the harder difficulties, which adds to the replay value, as do a few unlockables that carry over to new games along with your stats.

If anyone has any questions about the game, I'd be happy to answer them.

OSC fiction is the only part of the game that scared me and thankfully the game's story doesn't take on the political tones of the series it's based on.

don't know why, Empire was pretty good

The major criticism leveled against it is all the right wing rhetoric, and between what I know of OSC's views and what I've skimmed of the book, is it's something I definitely don't want. I am not doubting OSC's ability to write, Ender's Game is one of my favorite books, I just don't need to inundate myself with his views.

meh

George Orwell though hated Communism, was a big fan of Socialism.

HG Wells was a hardcore fan of Government rule over people's rights.

Ayn Rand in all her wisdom, personally wasn't exactly against ALL "social justice".

As long as your not a pederast, I'll read your work. I myself am a conservative (though its more of a mix of coservative, libertarian and federalist but conservative is my base) but it still doesn't mean that I won't read some Halderman.
Hehe, this could lead to a good thread in the Political Debate forum actually: OSC's views frighten some people.
there has already been a few over the years, they really were not worth wading though all the shit

im so looking forward to waking up tomorrow morning on my day off, turning on the 360 and buying this game to play it all day.

I read the Ender books in high school/college but I didn't know he was a crazy rightwinger until now. This is from his Wikipedia page:

Card has called same-sex marriage a "potentially devastating social experiment" and argued that same-sex marriage is not necessary to ensure equal rights because: "Any homosexual man who can persuade a woman to take him as her husband can avail himself of all the rights of husbandhood under the law."[18] He claims that "gay activism as a movement is no longer looking for civil rights, which by and large homosexuals already have."[19] He also says he is against "changing the word 'marriage' to apply to something it's never applied to."[20]

Wow...what a douchebag.

Well-written and detailed review you got there. I especially liked the trivia part about what was going on at the time of the last home console Metroidvania game, it really puts things into perspective.

I'm with ya there :D

And thanks for the review. Nicly done.

What? SotN isn't that much longer than six or eight hours, bro.

Most of that time isn't even that entertaining.

The length of Shadow Complex doesn't bother me a bit. For this type of game 7 hours seems about right. I've played games that retailed for $60 brand new in which I beat between 7-8 hours (Wanted, Ghostbusters, Bionic Commando, Transformers RotF, to name a few recent ones)
So envious. Wish PS3's PSN had a title like this.
Hey I wish I had Fat Princess and Metal Gear Solid 4. So we all win/lose something here!

Can't unlock the full game either. Not even through the Trial which looks to be the same way you would unlock it either way.

edit: Thanks for the link Brak

Yeah, Brak the link got the job done. So...I played a bit of it. As a big Metroid fan, so I'm probably going to be a bit harsh on this game. Although, the way they're dealing out the story parts right now are kinda interesting,
albeit generic as hell
. I'm also disappointed by the clear lack of a half tuck, as I was with Prince of Persia. So...
the narrow passageways seem to make up a good portion of this game so far and I don't really know if I like that or not. But it might pay off in the end.
