Lock and load, soldier! Capcom is readying a follow up to their hit release Commando for Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. The true sequel to Commando 2 (Commando 2 was released stateside as MERCS) the game will support 3-player cooperative play locally or over Xbox Live Arcade.

Set to be released this Winter (December 07/January 08) players will take the roles of either Animal, Smoke, or Boomer, and battle it out with a wide arsenal of weaponry, and three kinds of vehicles. While playing cooperatively, all three players will be able to hop in a vehicle, one driving, one riding shotgun, and the other manning the turret. While in a vehicle, all three players will be able to fire weapons, allowing for total chaos.

A total throwback to the 80's arcade game, Commando 3's updated graphics look phenonmenal, and fans of the series should feel right at home.

Hahaha, this could be really good. I remember playing Commando on my cousin's Commodore 128, and I loved M.E.R.C.S. in the arcade (which I didn't even realize was a sequel to Commando until now). I love seeing games like this pop up in the modern era!

Is there any idea of where this game is? Has there been any news about a delay?

They just released Rez, so that means the next good game is due in another 8 months or so.

It's funny cos it's true.

I'm game as long as it doesn't use the two-analog control scheme that has become (unfortunately) the standard for XBLA games.

I like that control scheme, it works a hell of a lot better than pushing a button to only shoot in the direction you're looking/moving. If they don't do that I hope they just go with FPS controls and the right stick is for aiming and you use a trigger to shoot.

I hate when you can only shoot in the direction you're facing and can only move in that direction as well.

WOTB: Commando 3 Hits Playstation Network today (Thursday) and hits XBLA Next week. Main post confirms PS3 release, and if you look down into the comment section, Seth confirms it's coming to XBLA next week :)

Great to see the game itself coming out, great to know it heralds the SSFIITHDR Beta coming soon, too!
Definite buy from me!
Still on the fence. Have to check with a couple friends about possible co-op. Otherwise, pass.

I'm too busy spending my points on Rock Band!:)

Wow, SFIIHD beta is included with this? That's probably the clincher for me (after obligatory demo playtest).

wow no body got this yet? Well when i get home ill buy and try and give a review. Everyone hit up frogger thread today but not this lol

Keep in mind I only played for 10 minutes before I left for work this morning, and didn't get past the first level...
I can't remember mercs for some reason but from the videos it looks like assault heroes but with people lol is it like shock troopers?

You be the judge:
Is the SFII beta ready to play right away?

But I'm definitely down for some co-op for this!
No, the SF beta isn't up yet

Just bought it and played through the first 2 levels. I'm a big twin stick shooter fan, so I really enjoyed the game. I think even if you weren't, however, anyone could get alot of fun out of this.

Street Fighter Beta isn't working yet though - it just gives an error code when you try to download. I read somewhere that it will be out on the 25th, but I forget where so it probably wasn't reliable.

Either way, fun game well worth the 800 points.

if you remember the game POW on the NES... its exactly like it... even has the ninja scuba guys popping out of the water and the bosses are big tanks you gotta run around and shoot at the end of levels...

great game, if anyone wants to play add me to their friends list, im online usually around midnight central... sorry i work 2nd shift...

IGN didn't give this game a very good review, which worried me at first. Then I tried the demo, and bought it as soon as it ended.

I thought that this game was a lot of fun, especially 3 players over Live. I like it better than Assault Heroes, personally. It feels faster, and I like the closer view.

I've never played a game with strange amounts of points for the achievements like this, where you get like 7 and such. It's always been 5, 10, 20 etc. Not that it's an issue, just different than normal.

Yah, IGN crushed this. Yes, the game is formulaic, but by God, how much originality is in games these days? I liked the demo, and I bought it. I have thusfar enjoyed the game, and the SSF beta is just added value.

fuck the naysayers! I'm enjoying the shit out of this game. It's damn fun especially if you got a friend over and in my opinion a bit more frantic and better controlling then Assault Heroes. Though having the SFII Beta near the end of the month sweetens the deal.

POW actually plays much more like Double Dragon than Commando 3, but aesthetically they are similar.

I too am loving this game. I'm surprised IGN was so hard on it. Single-player is easier for me than multiplayer because my partners kept wasting all of our lives. One criticism - during the end credits, a horrible helicopter sound effect plays endlessly instead of MUSIC. How odd. Oh, also the art sucks. Not that I mind cartoony, it's just that this art is very amateurish.

Just a heads up that the stage select doesn't unlock until after you beat the game.

Here's the secret area locations, found by Beldryn at the xbox.com forums. Use grenades to reveal them.

Level 1
* Just after the start of the Vehicle Section, on the left, also a red flower will mark this one.
* To the left after the barrier at the end of the Vehicle Section, marked with a red flower.

Level 2
* Between the first two prisoner caches, on the left at the beginning of the level also marked with a blue flame.
*To the left of the tank track marks, to the left of the GREEN tank. (pretty far into the level)

Level 3
*when you first enter the temple area, on your left, big statue, its left of where the enemy APC stops
* temple area, after the section where there is a low wall with troops who throw grenades at you, as you head north there with be a blue circle on the right wall.

Level 4
1: right after the raised panks area, after you go back into the swamp directly after the section where you can use the turret, on the right wall there will be what looks like a fallen tree on the wall. its directly above the enemy barracks from the turret section
2: right at the end of the swamp area. before going up the ramp. the last part of the fenced area on the left in the water.

Level 5
*Building with black/flags at beginning of level (at left!)
* First tank run; After 3rd minefield, building on left with black/red flags.

I'll probably write an Achievement Guide for this in the new few days.
