Damn it I ordered it. I hate myself but this is the deal that put me over the edge. Got 300, Batman Begins, and Casino. Also going to pick up goodfellas.

If you're picking up Goodfellas, make sure you pick another 2 movies from the list as well, they are having a buy 2 get 1 free HD DVD special after all. ;)
Just buy it and when you get it, return the new drive with a new copy of 300 with the old Best Buy receipt. They don't record serial numbers on the drives. Simple swap and you get 7 more movies than you had for the same price, or less without tax :D
Just FYI , CC recorded my serial number when I picked mine up .
They must consider it to be game hardware .

still not going to bite quite yet, i'm not convinced hd-dvd is really proving itself yet. I dont feel confident in it yet.

Bummer...another reason for its CAG nickname "Circuit Shitty" ;)

At this price, it really doesn't even matter if it dies out. You'll still have the 9 movies and the player to watch them on. Plus, if it does "lose" the battle, it's not going to be in the immediate future.
Personally, the HD-A2 for $210 with 8 movies is a much better deal, given the 360's noise issues.
Deal was dead this morning though it might be up now...also the HD-A2 maxes out at 1080i while the HD DVD add on maxes out at 1080p via HDMI enabled X360 or VGA connection and its $40 cheaper with an extra movie. They're both awesome deals though.

i swear i can barely hear my 360..

heck my ps3 stands out a lot more noisewise.

The a2 was back up last time i checked but people are reporting that its not expected to ship for some time. Seriously how many of these do they have laying around...

And just to list out what your getting with the add on..

360 hd dvd drive (works with 360 or pc)
King Kong hd dvd
Remote control
+9 fucking movies...

this is insane
Damn, just last week I did the Best Buy deal and got 300 free. Oh well, I am not going to complain but this is a mega deal.
I got the BB deal too. Could we not get them to PM the new Amazon sale or will they only PM b&m?

Wow the format war is getting really ugly, great for consumers. I'm still hesitant to jump on this even though it really is a great deal.

Same here, I thought the 300 deal was good but this deal is even more amazing. And Zero tax on it makes it even better. If you figure each movie is 20 bucks it's like your gettin the drive for free.

I've got the drive and it looks great on my TV. I can't wait for Transformers.

300, Batman Begins, and Casino were my free three.
300, Batman Begins, and Casino were my free three.
We picked the same movies............
300, Batman Begins, and Casino were my free three.
I think you missed my point. You can get Goodfellas + another HD DVD and you'll get a 3rd HD DVD free along with the 3 HD DVD's that you picked.

i bit the bullet on this one... i figured i was gonna buy the hd-dvd player anyway, so why not now? hehe

i picked up 300, TMNT, and Departed.

Thanks OP.

bit on the deal. sadly departed was all out of stock so i had to settle with a 19.95$ movie which added 8$ to my total wtfstupidbsbbq -_-

got

300
TMNT
Troy
Must resist this deal .....
9 HD DVD's...MSRP between 19.99-29.99 x 9 = 179.99-269.99 value ;)
HD DVD Player comes with Media Remote....Transformers will be HD DVD exclusive...The Matrix Trilogy, Batman Begins, Heroes...all exclusives...that's it take out that wallet, pull out that shiny platinum card...open up Amazon.com...there you go...

Just did some research on HiDefDigest.com and it looks like alot of these movies are being reissued without the combo disc, but the specs are the same. Probably a sign of a imminent price drop on the discs?

O man.. i guess im finally on the hd bandwagon. Picked up 300, Batman Begins and Serenity. Im gonna go broke buying so many hd dvds. Can't wait for blade runner to come out.

Ha, I did the same with the $8 thing. Didn't realize it at the time.

Doesn't matter, as I REALLY wanted the $19.99 title I got. Picked up Robin Hood (the $19.99 title), TMNT (another I would have instantly bought even had it not been a free title), and 300 (haven't seen it yet, figure seeing it in HD would be the best way to give it a shot).

I'm a HD DVD pusher, but I have to be honest. When you select your 5 Free HD DVDs you are not guaranteed to get those exact titles. A friend of mine only got 2 out of 5. He ended up getting Perfect Storm as a replacement (which he already had) and gave it to me. I think this is a great deal except for the fact that you really don't know which titles you will get from the Rebate.

I like how a lot of the DVDs are able to play in both a regular DVD player as well. I'll only have my HD-DVD on one of my TVs, but I have DVD players on every other TV in my house. That's great for a movie like TMNT, which I can show my kids now in any room they choose, as opposed to only the Xbox 360 room.
Not to threadcrap, but shouldn't this be in the other deals forum (and wasn't it already there?)?
Is it honestly that big of a deal that it's here? With 4 pages of replies, don't think many people mind.
Not to threadcrap, but shouldn't this be in the other deals forum (and wasn't it already there?)?
I know I put it there, but the OD Fourm gets a small number of veiws comparied to VG Deals so I dont think it's a big deal. Something like this should be in VG deals IMO but I'm not a mod so I put it were I thought it should go . Just look at the replies and thread views compared to the one I posted up and you can see why the VG forum was a better choice.
I was going to pick this up, then I realized my g/fs b-day is coming up. No way I can afford both. Gotta keep the CC balance low.
Simple. Get her a 360 HD-DVD addon with 3 HD DVD's.

Sure, I'm not mad about it. It's not my site. But there is a place for everything here. I'm sure if we put an amazing deal on a HD TV in this forum it would get a lot more traffic. But that's what slickdeals is for. Every great deal under the sun doesn't belong in the video game forum.

Its considered an XBOX360 accessory, so that's why I put it here.

i cant decide if i should make the full jump to hd or not, my brother has a ps3 and i bought a couple blu ray movies for it, they look really good yes....but the question is......is it worth starting to rebuy my insanely massive collection of DVD's? this is a great deal, i love my 360......but idk if its worth it

This deal essentially makes the player free. You could get a few of the movies I chose for less than $20 on DVD, but the higher quality picture makes up for the few extra bucks per disc. Now I plan on buying future movies on HD-DVD. Eventually I might rebuy my DVD movies. But why bother at the moment? They still play just fine now that I own an HD-DVD player. (I own upwards of 270 movies and 3 entire TV series on DVD. But I can still watch them all.)

I was originally convinced I would never buy and HD-DVD add on and I wouldn't buy a PS3 for many years. But these deals make the add on free and the PS3 is like $320 with no tax. And that's if you take the minimum value of $20 per movie. To me it was a no brainer. Free player and I doubt the PS3 will be anywhere near $320 in the next couple of years, much less with the EE still in tact.

With a free add on dangling in front of you, what is there to question? As LinkinPrime already said, just take your wallet out and do it.

I got TMNT, The Departed, and Letters from Iwo Jima, but the whole shipment is being held up waiting for the Departed. Bastards. Oh well. I don't really need it ASAP.

After much deliberation I finally caved in this morning and bought the whole kit n' kaboodle. I got:

-Xbox 360 w/HDMI
-HD DVD player
-HDMI cable (was only $6 after shipping)

Got 12 movies in total I think:

-300
-Happy Feet
-The Departed (gotta wait forever for it)
-Blood Diamond
-Superman Returns
-King Kong (included)
-Van Helsing (didn't want it but it was the only movie if i put it in my cart took off extra $27.95)

and the 5 mail away movies

ALL FOR $588 SHIPPING FREE AND NO TAX

Figured it was more worth it buying it this way than from the B&M. Doing it that way would have been $571 after tax with only 5 free movies and no HDMI cable.

I was waiting for a long time to see if a good deal would come this way soon with Xbox 360.....hope I made the right choice! :D
