(YMMV?) Free one month Playstation + codes (check your e-mail)

CAGiversary!

I usually don't start threads on CAG, so I'm sorry if I did something wrong.

I'm not sure if this goes here, but since it's PS+ related, I'll post it. Also, I didn't see this posted anywhere on the forums (I used the search bar)

I received an e-mail from Playstation Network, and it seems that they're running a special Xmas promo where they're giving PS3 users a redeemable code for a free month of Playstation Plus, along with two additional codes that you can give to anyone you want. I guess you could trade those codes with other people who have received the same e-mail and stack up to three months of Playstation Plus, but maybe you shoudln't do this (unless it is safe and within the Terms of Use/Service). The codes expire in March 2012.

Anyways, check your e-mail. The subject should read: "Free Games and Discounts for You and Your Friends". Inside, you will find your three codes.

To clarify any doubts, I was not a PS+ subscriber when I received the e-mail, and the only time I used the service was when Sony gave away that free PS+ month, along with the four games as part of their Welcome Back program. After my month was over, I never renewed my subscription, so I guess everyone should receive this e-mail.

Edit: Apparently, if you renew your PS+ membership, you get another free month. At least that's what it says on the upper fine print from the e-mail. BTW, I AM NOT TELLING ANYONE TO TRY AND EXPLOIT THIS AND/OR HOARD CODES WITH THIS POST. WHATEVER YOU DO WITH YOUR CODES IS YOUR OWN BUSINESS, ALTHOUGH I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST DOING ANYTHING "SHADY" THAT COULD RUIN THE WHOLE THING FOR EVERYONE. Also, thanks to MICHAEL2414 for posting a better screen cap.

Here's MICHAEL2414's screencap:

did you guys read the fine print at the bottom?

A credit card is required to redeem your PlayStation®Plus 30-day trial, but you will receive this trial without charge. Unless you cancel your subscription at least one day prior to the end of the 30-day trial, your trial will automatically convert to a 3-month PlayStation Plus subscription and $17.99 will automatically be deducted from your PlayStation® wallet according to the PlayStation®Network Terms of Service and User Agreement. This 3-month subscription will continue and automatically renew until you cancel it. You may cancel your subscription via the account management on your PlayStation®Network account or by contacting customer support at 877-971-7669.
Isnt that how it always worked O_O?
Pretty much. All you have to do is delete your credit card info to be safe, or turn off auto-renew.
so what, just cancel the subscription
whats with the "so what" attitude? didn't get an email for it or something? its a heads up for ppl that don't know

someone has a 3 month code? PSN doesn't accept international credit cards :S, and it would be really helpful, my ps3 died the last week but it still works for 5 minutes, i could save my dark souls data in that time.
ya i am, e-mail is probably going out to PS+ subscribers only - edit - guess not, see below
Im not and I also got the email.

aww I didn't get one. I think because I didn't join the mailing list for spcial promotion to avoid spams lol. Oh well if anyone feeling generous please pm me a code.

I've been PS+ since it came out and I got AN e-mail... but all it was was a holiday thank you with absolutely no codes. Hopefully my wife gets the e-mail with codes. I'll let her use one and take the other two or vice versa.
I just got this too. I tried all the codes they sent me and they work on one account.

Can I get in trouble if I stack them?
I'm going to try to.

Merry Christmas to me! fuck my friends.

lol --shit if it does stack ill be doing the same

thing is, you have to enter credit card info cuz if you dont cancel your 30 days before its up (which i always forget to do in these circumstances), they charge you automatically for 3 month subscription. After they got hacked, no way my credit card touches PSN. It didnt before the hack and it sure as hell isnt afterwards.

yes but with these codes you have to have a credit card on your PSN. BEcause if you dont cancel within the 30 day subscription, they bill you for 3 months. says so in the playstation store when you go to redeem it. So if some guy used all 3, if he doesnt cancel it, i wonder if he pays for three 3-month subscriptions on his 1 account, so 9 months basically after? But yea I was hoping it was just free like when PSN had been hacked but no dice.

Plus, if you cancel after activating the code.. it'd cancel your 30 day membership... if you cancel on say, day 20, you honestly think they'll let you keep the 10 days left? very doubtful.

So does Sony drastically reduce the available content for PSN+ when they do these free offers? I thought RDR and others were supposed to be on sale? I'm just seeing shitty SNK games and the God of War games discounted. When they gave it for free earlier this year due to the hack, wasn't there a HUGE amount of content available, not just the 2 free games mind you?

RDR was on sale the first week after it was released (It was a bundle with all of the DLC for about $25). Most PS+ deals only last a week, the best deal this week is the Penny Arcade bundle ($3).

I remember a few decent PS+ deals back during the welcome back package, 2 of them included Braid ($3) and Borderlands GOTY ($15). There were more, but I can't remember which were PS+ and which were regular deals.

Not a subscriber, and I got the email. Anybody want my codes? Let me know. I got a friend who's got a paid sub and lets me sponge off him for nada, so I have no need for the promo codes.

What is the address people are getting this email from? I can't find it in my email, so figured I should just search it.

Also, do these stack the same way xbox live stacks?

EDIT: Does that fact that I am already PS+ negate me getting this email?

Yea, still nothing for me and I am signed up for their mail too

anyone feeling generous and want to throw a code my way?

I got a note but there's only one code. And while I'm a big supporter of the PS3 and Wii over 360, Plus just isn't worth it. I skipped the free trial after the outage too because there was nothing good and you don't even keep the content once the trial runs out. I won't pay extra to play online so signing up is out. Wonder if I should sell or trade it...

Same. A free month is no way worth giving them my info. Plus, there is no way I would be able to beat all the free games in a month anyhow.

Looking for a free code as well. I haven't seem to have gotten the official email yet. PM me if you have an extra one to share!

PM sent dude.

My cousin could use one if they are available.

Thanks

This promo sucks its the same type of cards that you get when you buy a new PS3.

I'm not going to put my payment info on my console just for a month of PSN+

Had we been able to redeem them without CC/debit card info it would have been a sweet deal.

Theres going to be a whole lot of people probably non CAGERS who don't read the fine print and don't cancel in time or forget to.

The way its setup is like every other sub service. They are out to get you probably doing it since the hack many people deleted their info. Specially when you consider not even a year ago the hack took PSN down for over a month. And rumors were some people had problems with their payment info.

To me its just not worth putting what feeds and shelters you on a game console despite almost nothing ever happening I'm leary enough with gamestop.com amazon etc. Just not worth it to me to demo games for a month.

The $5.99 PSN vouchers were a blessing and a hell of a gift. This is a marketing sceme from Sony that all the noobs will say so what "just cancel"

Their mind can't comprehend past that and how its marketing 101

Not to mention it screws anyone out of the deal who gets a code but doesn't have a debit or credit card. Or if they happen to be kids etc.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but maybe these emails were sent to people who don't have their CC on file with Sony. I have mine on file with them, and I didn't get one. I'm also a current PS+ subscriber.

I got the email. I am a plus subscriber, though I just renewed it a few days ago after letting it expire. I also do not have my cc on file with them.

I put in my CC, not a PS+ member, and I got an e-mail for some reason. I used all 3, sorry guys.

If you got the code you might as well put in CC temporarily. Like someone else said you can delete it afterwards.

I didn't get one...boo urns :( But I'm with everyone else that I don't know if it's worth putting my CC on there to get, I always make sure that if I use it, it comes right back off after my transaction is completed...

It let you keep the days left. It has to, you paid for a service they can not stop the service prior to expire date.

I originally signed up for plus using a CC to buy it. I within 10 minutes went and canceled the auto renewal. I was using it free and clear after I took out my CC info. This was before the hack.

Its a deal if you already had your cc/debit info on your console. Or if you didn't care about putting it on from the start. If you just want to add info then delete it right away and not just cancel the renewal then its Sony marketing 101.

Not on par with the $5.99 vouchers that's for sure. This deal will leave a lot of people with their finger in their ass because even if you don't care about putting the info on your console a lot of people don't have a cc/debit.

Its a slap in the face to most minors. Majority of them probably don't have debit cards yet.

Sony should have just made the codes redeemable by anyone.

This is just another subscription service with a free incentive to get people to do something they would have not done other wise. Marketing 101.

The less minors on any online service the better. Also, why are you repeating yourself?
...so anyone going to post the email address or info on the email so I can try and find mine (if I have one)...
Check the OP. ;)

I received the email with the codes. I just renewed my sub earlier this month, and I already had my CC info on the system.

Just cancel immediately after redeeming the code. Big whoop
