I don't recall a thread like this but if there is oh well. Over in the Chrono Trigger DS thread people started naming their favorite scores. Post yours here, I suppose your top 5 or so would do.

Honorable mention goes to the Final Fantasy series, Mega Man and X series, Sonic the Hedgehog Series, Street Fighter II, Silent Hill 2, Metroid Prime and III, Castlevania CotM, Castlevania IV... wow there are so many greats.

Honorable mention to Persona 3 for being hilarious and catchy.
 
It's too hard to definitively narrow it down, but here's my short list in no particular order:

Also, it's not technically a game soundtrack, but Hiroki Kikuta's album Alphabet Planet is really, really good. It's like two discs of SoM/SD3 bonus tracks.
 
Final fantasy tactics and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (even though the sound was NES quality, it was composed very well)

I'm surprised that no one have chosen The Phoenix Wright Series or Metal Gear. In my opinion, I think Phoenix Wright Series have best soundtrack.

I am actually a huge, huge fan of AC5's soundtrack! In fact, it's the sole factor that convinced me to try the game. I was going to put it on my list but decided to go with Front Mission 5 instead because it has a similar martial/orchestral sound and because I feel like it's Hidenori Iwasaki's big breakthrough album. Also, new Kenichiro Fukui!

Final Fantasy 2 (IV), Final Fantasy 3 (VI), Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve, Silent Hill (the first two mostly), LoZ: Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil 2, and Shadow of the Colossus

And the mall music from Dead Rising is awesome. I've walked around humming it before.. the second theme is cool as well.

Those Japanmen make good composers.
 
Mass Effect, GTAIV, Katamari, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Jet Set Radio, skate., REZ, No More Heroes, Oblivion, Red Dead Revolver, Tekken Dark Resurrection, I have about 50 more, but that's the gist.
 
Though it has only been out in Japan for a few days... PERSONA 4's OST is amazing, it compliments all other works from Meguro and really shows how much he has grown as a composer and really makes me love the Persona games more...

Kudos.
 
All the Star Wars games win by default for me with Castlevania:Symphony of the Night running second. Truthfully, all the Castlevania side-scrollers have incredible soundtracks. Zelda games have awesome music too.

and yes... i always forget to say this game's sound track. Ninth Heaven is superb.
 
Anything by Uematsu is great. I particularly recommend Lost Odyssey, More Friends and the three Black Mages CD's if you like rock. I also like the following:
