My iTunes hasn't updated the Podcasts yet, are you sure it has been released? Maybe after I wake up I will find out.

Woot Woot! Two weeks in a row! I was expecting some "new parent" flake-age (not that I would blame you). +1 respect points for massive endurance!

Comments to come after the show...

You can buy a game these days for $20, you can buy Mercury Meltdown Revolution, which came out a few weeks ago.

The intro video for the spanish game you mentioned, Cheapy, is actually Activision's game, not Ubisoft's game.

Well I was wrong, you didn't discuss the ad situation and you missed my point... plus the number of people complaining was more than 2. You just acted like, in a way… it’s tough shit for the people. Spin it all you want, but you clearly did not read the real complaints... which was, the breaks in the middle of the show hurts the momentum. If the ads were at the start and end, that would be fine. Having ads, while not pleasant, isn't the issue. The issue is where they are at. Next ad campaign you have, don't fold to the advertisers to try to get more credibility. You are CheapyD, be yourself.

The rest of the show is such high quality, don’t hurt the product in any way. The product is why people listen. Just a little advice, but what do I know... I only have listened to all the shows.

In this particular case, I don't have a choice...the ads have to spread across the show. The final ad is pretty much at the end of the show. I'm not allowed to put it as the last thing.

In this case, I didn't really have any negotiating power. This was a blanket contract across many different podcasts. It was the kind of thing where you were either in or out. I will take your comments into consideration in the future.

Fair enough, that is a much better answer than what was on the show. I didn't know the Navy was such Nazi's.

As for DLC in Guitar Hero... how about they do a 3 pack like before, but you get to choose which 3 songs you want. Discuss.

Just finished listening to the show and I must say I appreciate the free entertainment from the both of you. :applause:

Thanks for answering my question Cheapy.

I'll have to post a picture - it's incredibly eerie how much you look like my brother in law when you have hair.

As for the baby whining - suck it up!

My friend and his wife had *twins* in August and he still finds time for gaming. He usually has a controller in his hand and a baby in the other.

It's pretty funny hearing Wombat getting all the free stuff, as it he was complaining about that when I first started listening a couple of months ago.

I also like being a dirty foreigner and not getting the ads.

Crysis will run awesome on your new baby!

Sorry, I'm just dissapointed. You've mentioned upgrading to a real PC before for Crysis and then you buy a Mac.

Cheapy, for the charity alternative I'd like to suggest the Hero Initiative. While not directly linked to video games, there have been a lot of comic book based video games. And Wombat would like supporting them too. Basically, a lot of older comic creators did what they did because they loved the art but they worked freelance. Some have made a comfortable life for themselves but others weren't so lucky. Heroes Initiative helps out the guys who created some of your favorite stories and characters. They are a federally approved not-for-profit.

part of the deal for the ads maybe have been that he needed to do them at diff points within the show because they know full well if they ads were at the begginning or the end wed skip them then theyd be paying money for nothing. im not into the ads either but trust me it could be worse. there could be annoying buzzing popups all over the damn place and even worse than they he could be sponsored by tampax or viagra or even worse ryan seacrest.

cant hate on a man for tryin to fill his pockets how he can cause kids arent cheap.especially when theyre babies because diapers and baby shit can add up and put a hole in your wallet that rosie odonnel can fit through with ease. i do wonder though if youre gonna be able to keep up with gaming though nwo that you have a kid. its gonna be pretty hard to do so wombats gonna have to pull double duty unless you get a live in nanny.........make sure shes a hott one that loves to clean naked and in high heels....................

Good lord your wife charges a lot. Hope that email finishes with a happy ending for that cost.

Seriously though, that is really lame. I wonder if 'The City' just gave up and went out for some Hot Dogs.

Cheapy,

What are you? Obviously, you aren't Japanese (even though you kind of look like you might be). Hispanic? Some other kind of Asian? A melting pot of flavors?

He's clearly revealed his otherworldly origins in previous podcasts. Try episode #42.

I love angry Cheapy. It's hilarious. Like Evil Spock. I bet he's growing a gotee this week.

Also, keep rolling the ads. Tell the haters to STFU. More money means better CAG.com and more games for the CAGCasters to talk about and that is fine by me.

Cheapy, I know your pain (as do many CAG dads). The first 4 months of my little girl's life were a nightmare of constant waking, changing, and listening to almost non-stop crying.

Once she started sleeping through the night (which was around 4 months), things got exponentially better. Just hang in there, lack of sleep is the worst part of the whole thing. It makes you moody as hell, as you know.

Great show, guys. But did you really need to stoke the fires of the Sony/NPD conspiracy theory? C'mon, that's the domain of lifeless Xbox 360 and Wii fanboys. NPD just wants to make money, period. I seriously doubt Sony had anything to do with it.

Good show indeed, keep up the good work wombat. Some how you've become the best thing on this show.

This is coming from a guy that wanted to beat you up awhile ago.

You mean like Circuit City wanted to make money... You telling me Sony had nothing to do with that as well? Sony is arrogant. Having their numbers being at the bottom every month doesn't do them any favors, it's an embarassment and they know it.

Shove it. There is always room for improvement.

Cheapy, Rock Band is my must own game of the season. There are tons of great games this year, but this is the one that rises above the rest. I've had so much fun this year rocking out to GH2 and simply can't wait to get 2 more people in on each song. I look forward to mastering the drums like I somewhat have the guitar. If you're not getting drums, there probably is not much point to RB. Do you really want to sing that badly? RB is for the total package. I'm one of your preorders from August and I can't wait to get this one in. I'm actually taking all of Thanksgiving week off and one of the reasons is Rock Band drums.

Having a newborn is rough. You definitely are in the warzone for the first 1-2 months. Boys are generally worse than girls, we have one of each.

And everyone, me included, has advice to give you about your baby.

We read all the books, from No Cry to Let them Cry and our kid would cry for an hour before he fell asleep, no matter how many times we would comfort him and no matter how long. And we decided very early against cosleeping.

Basically when the kid reaches 10 pounds, he's getting enough nourishment and doesn't need to wake up 5 times to eat throughout the night. At that point, you want to ween the greedy boy off of night feeds. This should happen by 2 months. Don't expect to be waking up forever, but you can see that if you have one feed in the middle of the night, you'll be better off than every 2 hours. There will be some crying involved, but he's got to get the picture that he's not going to eat every time he wakes up. Ideally, you can get up, comfort him to sleep and not feed him. It doesn't always work out this way. However, some kids just start sleeping through the night on their own.

And it gets easier when they stop dumping every time they eat. That happens around 2 months as well. 2 months is a big breaking point usually.

Our son wouldn't sleep much and almost nothing would comfort him. He still doesn't sleep alot. We resorted to a 'dream feed' where we would feed him at around 10pm while he was sleeping to try to fill up his belly and avoid his waking up at midnight or 1am. That didn't last long. Another thing is that formula is more filling and may help him sleep more, but then you run some risk of nipple confusion and milk preference, which sucks if you plan to do 6-12 months of breast feeding.

Oh, I do recommend tightly swaddling them. Google swaddle. You have to swaddle them like a little straightjacket so that they can't escape. Surprisingly most babies find it comforting, and it's a satisfying revenge process for the parents.

One different approach is that some women (nanny types) offer a night weening service where they take care of the kid at night for a few days- you bank some milk for them, and they get up with the kid and get them back to sleep. Their successes change 5 night wake-ups to none. The advantage of this is their robotic adherance to the no feed plan (whereas sleep deprived parents just feed the kid out of desperation) and the fact that they don't smell like mama and don't have the same queues for the baby to feed and be comforted by that. We spoke to a woman about this but it was too late, we'd already wrangled our little bastard into near submission.

Remember, parents tend to promote behaviors in their babies out of desperation and habit, but I suggest you do what works for you at night, rather than what works for the baby, once he is over 10 pounds and doing well. It can take a week or two for a new sleep habit to take hold, although most kids get it after a few days. So you have to stick to the program to train them, sometimes no matter how painful. With our son we wouldn't see results for a week and then two weeks for something to be firmly engrained. Bastard.

I also suggest avoiding cosleeping. Don't get the kid used to being in bed with you as it's a hard habit to break.

Down with La Leche!

Ha Ha.. no ads for me.. screw you americans.. you may get games earlier , but i don't hear ads.. i win.

Listening noww...

No ads for me too( live in japan)
so CheapyD and Wombat,Thank you for aswering my question!
the second i heard Cagfreak, i was like "holy shit!"

well thanks guys, it was a nice show.
hope things get better with tai and his problems of waking you up, or your probably going to end up getting the red ring of death"so called the red circle"(meanin red eyes for not enough sleep)
he didnt seem to interupt the show though

If you want to follow that logic, sure they've got the motive, but they don't have the means, as they're bleeding money. MS has the money and the means, as they're getting slaughtered by the Wii, and have bottomless coffers. So how come no one's spreading rampant MS/NPD rumors?

Simple. It's just chapter 3,048 in the Sony Bash Book.

Slaughtered?

The Xbox 360 still leads console sales in the USA and recently had a game sell like 3 million in it's first week... what was that game called again... oh yes, Halo 3.

Don't even get me started on attach rate.

No case can be made for Wii or 360.

Sony has a history of doing or saying dumb things. I wonder if I can still get in that $1200 if I see a system deal.

I seem to recall the Wii outselling Xbox 360's total sales in less than half the time. For a console often bashed as "underpowered" and "kiddie," it's already surpassed MS' high-def machine. That's got MS and Sony worried. As far as Halo 3...the Wii had no major releases in September, and still sold half a million units. What do you think will happen when Galaxy launches?

I think you are overplaying the sales of the Wii hardware. It is cheaper, so yeah it is going to move more units. Also, hardware doesn't make money, selling games makes money, and the 360 is clearly selling way more software than the Wii is.

I'm by no means saying that the 360 is "slaughtering" the Wii, but I think you are going way overboard in your statement. Their install base is nearly the same now, which is a good sign for the Wii. However, if they don't start publishing more decent games, it won't matter how many consoles they will have sold.

Even good games aren't going to sell that great on Wii. The systems are in the hands of non-traditionals who buy 1 or 2 games a year may be. They're not buying games like Dead Rising or Saints Row or Lost Planet (which sold 1m+ on 360). They're buying first party Nintendo mingame compilations. Wii Sports 2 may be the best selling game of this generation not packed in with the Wii. Do 3rd party devs and publishers care? Yep. They're not going to drop $10-20m on developing for a system that 75% of the users don't buy games for. Attach rate is the name of the game this gen.

Pretty funny cagcast cheapy (not including wombat, just not a fan of his). Cheapy had a pretty funny line today.
"Did you finish portal yet wombat?"
"No"
"What are you an asshole?"

[quote name='ianoid']

You are right about the fact that he is going to get a lot of advice but as a father of 2 kids also, a boy and a girl, what people tell you and what their experiences are don't mean shit. Every kid is different and you need to find out what works for them and you. An example, your blanket statement that 10 pounds means they get enough nourishment to get through the night is ridiculous. My boy was 10 pounds when he was born, my daughter was 9 pounds 8 ounces. They needed more nourishment in the night because they were so big, they had to eat more at night to keep from losing weight.

Just like everything else, nothing is absolute, you have to find what works for you as long as it doesn't include smothering the kid.

Cheapy,
I am very interested in seeing if your opinion changes about paying for Live and multiplayer gaming when you aren't able to use them as much. I know for me a good single player game is way more important than any multiplayer functions a game may have.

One of the designers is discussing the game at the OC Remix forums:

I will try to answer all your questions ans interrogations :)

Yes we had a lot of fun doing the game. It was a tight project, not much time to do it and a limited budget (Value title) and it was a Language learning game, so we decide to have fun doing it with double meaning jokes like Shrek movies. All the texts was made by my colleague, so thx to him for this bizarre story, if you know what I mean :)

For my part, I was the lead designer on the project, I designed the 3 main games, the menu system, the point system and had some influence over the music and sounds.

I work for Humagade, a company located in Quebec City, Canada.

I think that the best aspect of the game is that people who don't understand Spanish can enjoy the game as well as people who wants to learn some Spanish vocabulary.

That's pretty much it :)

Hey Cheapy, great show you and Wombat make a great team, just wanted to bring up when you said that you dont listen to other podcasts, except for when you get mentioned it. Sidescrollers over at Srcewattack.com mentioned you during there sidecrollers news desk, they said they would like to have you on the show to talk Christmas deals. I know you did a great toliet tuesday for them. Just thought I would let you know. Congrats on being a papa!

As the father of a 3 month old, I agree the sublime satisfaction of sleeping through the night for the first time. I think my biggest complaint was no sex for 6 weeks. But I guess that is the unspoken complaint. Cheers on another great CAGcast.

Thanks for the great show, I think it would be great if you guys could get on some sort of radio/tv program.

Anyways, I was there on the live episodes you did before and I will be there again if you guys do 'em.

:)

CheapyD, I can feel your anger, It makes you stronger, gives you focus. Take your weapon, strike me down with all of your hatred and you journey toward the dark side will be complete! Now you must direct it at those who are trying to destroy our world and create civil war without end: The Republicans!
