Tales of the abyss PS2 $19.99 at GS (USED) was $44.99
May want to add it's for used copies.
Well most peoples would obviously know it's not a NEW price, and GS doesnt have a NEW listing. I added it anyway though. I'm still kicking myself for not buying it from Kmart a couple years ago for the clearance price of $12!!! live and learn.

When they scan the game it'll come up for $19.99. They aren't the fastest at updating the stickers.

Did you check the price at the POS? B&M prices are usually a couple dollars more than online.
Unfortunately, the one at my local store was marked $34.99.
Dude....its $19.99, get a price check. It's NOT online only.

Nice, picked this up for $35 at my GS about three months ago, wish I waited.
Nice find, OP!
Unfortunately, there are none available in my area:(
Thanks, they show no copies in a 100 mile radius in my area...ugh, that sux. I figured i'd let you guys know tho. I actually found it by accident, i usually check for price drops every couple days, but it's not working now for some reason. So i clicked on Role Playing for PS2 , and it's the first one listed.

Why is no one ordering it from the website? They have 30 in stock. Yes I know it may not be complete, but at least you'll have it.

It's available online. There is one available near me at a store, but I don't want to go there today so I ordered one instead.

I'm not taking a chance, probably get a scratched disc, generic case, and no manual. I wouldn't play it anyway...straight into the collection.

Unfortunately, I might not have time to go back there today and I go on vacation tomorrow.

You should try to get it before you go on vacation, it def. will get snatched up. For future reference never go by the price tag. Have fun btw!

Guys, Tales of the Abyss is FANTASTIC- easily my favorite Tales of game yet, even beating Vesperia. If you're on the fence about it, you probably aren't going to find a better deal than $20. Screw all that complete shit. If you do get one with original manual and artwork, great. But if you don't, you still got one of the best games for the PS2 EVER IMO.

I agree with everything cept it being better than Vesperia :p.

I am 100% for complete games and I prefer mine to be complete. BUT I buy games to play and collecting them is 2nd. For $20 I would take the risk and hope it's complete, if not at least you get the game. And boo hoo if it doesn't come complete, it's $20. If it doesn't work just return it to any local GS. This is Cheap Ass Gamer, not Cheap Ass Collector. I know some people like to collect games, but they are to be enjoyed as more than just a pretty box.

Your right, i've read it's a GREAT game. Unfortunetely, in my case, i have so much other stuff to play and i havent played a PS2 in years. After playing PS3, it's hard to go back. Plus my OCD would never rest knowing i have it, but it's not complete. i know, i know...im horrible.

Oh and yes you can be a Cheapassgamer and Cheapasscollector at the same time.

Sweet, I managed to grab one before they went oos. Hopefully it comes complete, but I'm expecting a busted up bad refurb job knowing gs.com

Ya, let us know what condition they arrive in. A refurbed disc, generic case, no manual/artwork would not be worth even $20 to me. But to each his own. Hopefully some people will get complete copies. And yes i know i can return it, but since i dont use plastic, i couldnt order it.

Well, I stopped by that gamestop and checked it out. It did indeed ring up at $19.99. Unfortunately, there was no game, only a case. That's the second time that's happened to me this week. (Tried to buy a copy of Odin Sphere yesterday. Same thing.)

Better than Vesperia? u trolling, bro?

Rant

Abyss is a game based on a whiny bitch of a main character who can't do shit for himself, a girl who tries but fails at tsundere and only remains popular for her large chest, a whiny brat, a... wow, none of the other characters are even remotely memorable.

Oh, and at certain points in the game, I kept wishing for Shinji Ikari to become the main character because he's five times more a man than Luke was. Seriously.

I got to the point where
I beat the shit out of Tear's bro
before I had to give up.

Vesperia is the greatest J-RPG ever made. Straight up, no contest. There's something about playing a character that doesn't follow the Japanese stereotype of "must be a little bitch" that just kinda clicks with people.

I think while technically probably the best Tales game of the last gen consoles, my fav Tales game will always be TOL.
I like how you can almost see up the chick on the front cover's shirt as she raises the sword
That chick is a dude, man.

I think this is my cue to sell my copy for $60ish before the market tanks.

FYI, the store locator doesn't show any in my state, but there might be some in Virginia and West Virginia.

That's because the employees are thieves. Thieves with good taste, but thieves nonetheless.

At any rate, I'm definitely one of those people who is a stickler for artwork and instructions, but if I find a really good deal on a game like this, I pick it up anyway. You can always d/l artwork from cdcovers.cc, and you can even purchase manuals separately from some sites. Even after doing all of that, you'd come out ahead for only spending $20 on the game.

I'm actually playing through the game right now, and I'm at about 80% completion. Definitely one of the best Tales games out there.

This. I did like Abyss too but it is not even close to being in Vesperia's League. That said everyone should get a copy of Abyss at $20. If you have not played Vesperia that is the one to get of the WHOLE Tales series.
lies, that's clearly a female
Her name is Luke and her class is Swordsman. He is definitely a bitch though in the beginning.

You know, I bought this a while back when Gamestop still had those coupons, it was 20% off PS2 games and with Edge it roughly came out to be the same price.

I still haven't played it, save the first 5 minutes of the game. I should get to it one of these days...

beat this game and traded it along time ago. didnt know it was worth anything. anyway....awesome game though, almost as good as tales of symphonia if not slightly better

Well, she told me that they probably sold the disc and couldn't find the packaging for it. Don't know how true that was. She did direct me to another store that had it, and since I needed to air out my car after getting it from the shop, I went there.

BTW, both the cover and the manual in both editions were there and in excellent condition.

The combat was a bit tighter but the story was absolutely stupid... I was so sick of hearing about phonons and the 9th harmony or whatever the fuck they kept talking out. The story consisted of 80% irrelevant filler bullshit and 20% content. Vesperia is better but I liked Symphonia a lot better, way more than any other Tales game (though Tales of Destiny was pretty awesome back in the day since it was the first NA Tales game).

BTW, am I the only one who's amazed by people who consider anything in the past 7-8 years to be the best JRPG? Seriously, the 90s and early 00s (SNES to PS1) were an unforgettable able era in JRPGs. Nearly everything after the PS2 era has been utter horseshit besides the rare gem like Shadow Hearts (series), Demon Souls and Valkyria Chronicles.

I bought a complete copy a few months back from GS. All was near mint except the disk itself. The clerk called around and found a disk that was clean and I was able to swap disks. I also had an employee save a NM Dragon Quest V (DS) for me since the local ordinance said they had to hold it for 10 days or so before they could sell it. It was on their system, but they could not sell it yet. No pre-orders used, just a charm potion before I entered the store in both cases ;).

Point is, I have been impressed by local GS employees lately even though they still won't cough up the pennied guides.
i dunno, i think the best rpg ever is final fantasy 7
What about Fallout 2? I would tend to agree though; having played RPGs since 1990-1991, I still can't quite wrap my brain around the "JRPG" concept (and subsequent explosion). I might play games that some people would consider JRPGs, but the "RPG" is still a larger motivation than the "J".

What RPGs did you play in the 90s?

There's that term JRPG again. Should we start calling Super Mario Bros NES a J-Platformer? That term didn't exist in my 90s timeline!
