thank you.
thank you.

Funny, my roommate just stopped by to tell me that if he were the NYPD, he'd "open fire on those fucks. Why don't they get a job?" I don't think I've ever heard anything so ignorant.

That's really funny considering the unemployment rate.

From that fair and balanced news source:

In response to progressive successes after the elections, the Tea Party movement evolved in 2009 to become perhaps a once-in-a-generation force. Motivated by a confluence of factors it was primarily fueled by anger at "crony capitalism" and too-big-to-fail policies that propped up the financial industry.

Since then, individual Tea Party groups have evolved into a mature national network with a variety of priorities and platforms, but its collective anger and untiring commitment are still simmering -- the result of few changes in Washington's overall behavior.

Similarly, the Occupy Wall Street set is also fighting crony capitalism and too-big-to-fail policies that propped up the financial industry. The difference, however, may be in their demands.

Tea Partiers want Washington to lay off and let the free-market system self-correct. Occupy Wall Street -- at least, according to some at the protests -- is looking to engineer an overthrow of the free-market system.

The protesters are "trying to accomplish the demolition of capitalism," one demonstrator told Fox News. Another said the group wants to replace capitalism with a different economic model.

You're right, I forgot about how Cap is all about surpressing American ideals, not supporting them.

I love how comments on that YT video are all about how the guy "owned" the reporter when he basically pointed out that news coverage is poor. Not much ownership if you ask me.

My dad loves to tell a story about a time him and another guy were on a canoe and a moose went by. Guy handed my dad his camera and jumped out of the canoe onto the moose.

Somewhere out there, there's a picture of some guy waving a cowboy hat sitting on the back of a scared-as-fuck moose in the middle of a lake.

I figure I'll go out on a quest to find that picture as soon as I can get ahold of a rogue and a healer.

Strell, you a healer?

I stopped by at Occupy MN last night. There were some fine and interesting people there, but some complete lunatics talking about chemtrails in the sky and how the govt is going to kill us all.
The guy trying to give me a macroeconomic theory lesson was quite confused on even very simple concepts. When I realized that he didn't even know what double-entry accounting was, or how it relates to basically anything that he speaking about, it was time to go.

That's the main problem with these people, they confuse fact and opinion as much as the people they claim to oppose.

To the gentleman that yelled “Get a job” at me while I was protesting Wall Street yesterday: I do have a job, thank you – two jobs, in fact. I also go to school full-time. There was a time when I didn’t, though; I was unemployed for nine months once. I lost my job while Bush was in office, and a month after my wife, stepdaughter, and I moved into our first home. Two months later, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Then my health insurance dropped me and my medications went from 20$/mo. to 200$/mo. You see, my body does not produce insulin, therefore I will die without my medication. My wife who does fairly well with her job as a hairstylist had enough saved and was able to keep the roof over our family’s head. When it eventually became clear that I was not going to find a job before my unemployment and our savings ran out, I decided to enroll in grad school; partly to ensure a job in the future, but mostly because I needed the health insurance and loans that school provides. In order to keep our home, pay my medical bills and save some small bit of money before our second child is born, I must work 30 – 40 hours a week as a manager at a local restaurant and substitute teacher while also taking out my full share of student loans. My wife also works around 40 hours a week, on her feet, while carrying our second child. It is a shame I am not as fortunate as you, dear sir, with your newly washed sport utility vehicle and freshly pressed suit. I suppose from your perspective it is my own damn fault to be where I am, but I was much like you once. I too worked in insurance and financial services. I too imagined having a fancy car and nice clothes. But our economy crashed. I was new to the financial industry and lost my job because I wasn’t bringing in enough new clients to invest their money with us. Everyone was understandably frightened by the falling market in 2007 and was more interested in holding on to their money for fear of the crash to come. I didn’t expect to end up where I am. I was a bit more optimistic then. I truly didn’t understand how an intelligent person with a liberal arts degree and extensive experience in management could eventually be struggling to feed himself and his family. But we live in a system that values profit over people; a system that won’t insure me because they know I require routine medical care and will probably die before I am 60; a system that requires my family and I to go into debt so that I can eventually make an honest living, a system that values war over education, wall street over main street, building factories in China over building bridges in America. We belong to a system that benefits the top minority rather than the bottom majority; a system that will kick a family out of their home and reward the corporations that made it impossible for that family to keep that home. Who got bailed out? The banks got bailed out. Who got sold out? We got sold out. Your fellow American

Well, there are studies showing that the poorer you are, the more likely you'll have more kids...

Bored. Nothing better to do. Condoms are expensive so we'll roll the dice.

Oh double entry, you mean two sets of books? One is the "legit" book and the other is what you have to keep track of what you're embezzling or am I mistaken on this?
Perdition just imagine how much worse it would be if abortion was outlawed though that's the goal of some right wingers, moreso for some to keep the Military Industrial Complex going. Keep that cannon fodder going.
edit: I echo one of the previous posters sentiments about this person being a troll or 14. At least I really hope it's one of the two as if it's not this guy is so ignorant it's not even funny.

We need to educate people :D

Buy in bulk... ~15-25c each! Much cheaper than child support...

Did really LOOK at how much the photo's contrasted? That is so clear that they cherry picked photo's it's not even funny.
Don't even try to knee jerk me as a Liberal either because I'm not. I don't like Obama either and he's part of the problem. I agree with someone else's assertion this might turn out like the next Kent State, with the order given by Obama.

I'm pretty sure you aren't going to find a comparable photo from a Tea Party event to lay up against Occupy Wall Streeters taking a crap on the flag or a cop car. Maybe grandma in a dirty Depends?

I've joked about taking my ballot in 2012 into the voting booth, dropping my pants and pinching a loaf on the ballot... Does that count?

You know, someone crapping on the flag... tasteless - but, so long as it is his/her own property, more power to them. I'm more worried about/impressed with the tons of crap they're leaving behind. Anyone have a slightly comparable photo from a "Tea Party" event?

Keep in mind bob that the Tea Party protestors haven't stayed in one place for DAYS on end as far as I can remember.
On the flag crapping note, one of the posters below mentions that photo isn't even FROM the OWS protest and is from something earlier and provides a link as such.

I'm a little surprised by all the conservative hate towards OWS. Aren't some of the OWS people Paul supporters? I thought Paul supporters were against the bailout and wanted Wall Street to be accountable?

I was betting that being the case.

I don't see how that makes it okay for them to completely trash private and common grounds...
I don't see how that makes it okay for them to completely trash private and common grounds...
Wow, you're kidding right?! You don't think, as they are currently situated, that they would be able to easily dispose of what they've just eaten when the wrapper is left behind? What I mean is you think there's easy trash pickup where they are? Maybe there is but maybe that's not the case as this is a park area not part of someone's front porch.
edit: Oh and this is NYC not your average neighborhood in the Midwest or West Coast so occupying an area that, even if you put the trash out and try to make it easy, could still be extremely difficult.
Wow, you're kidding right?!
Nah.

Bob's famous for distraction. Bob is what's called an astroturfer. Rather than allow any kind of positive spin for the political side he opposes OR relevant discussion to the topic, he'll make a big stink about inconsequential bullshit in order to cause a shitstorm and derail the thread. This inevitably brings out the worst in those he opposes, prevents a proper discussion and allows him to 'win' the thread at least in his own mind.

Try not take him too seriously.

Oh, well then, that makes it all okay.

The difference between the Tea Party and OWS? The Tea Party has nothing to lose and if they're successful, only stand to gain from the practices they oppose. None of them have gone or will ever go broke. If they get a deregulated free market, we'll just end up in the same spot again, but this time they'll get a piece of that sweet undeserved pie and that'll make it alright.

And the flag pooping photo isn't even from OWS!!!! Holy shit! I've got to bookmark that site, it's hilarious!

Besides, it's impossible to poop on the flag!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI0hvm10AHo

The photo in which he accuses people of having sex features a girl with her shirt on no less.

Sarang01, yes, that's exactly what double entry accounting is. Are you by chance 14 or a troll? Jesus Christ kid...
And the flag pooping photo isn't even from OWS!!!!
For what it's worth, the dude on that site has updated and made note of this.

The photo in which he accuses people of having sex features a girl with her shirt on no less.

I'm not saying that's what those two in the photo are doing... but someone having a shirt on does not impede that particular process....

Link dump

What, are you trying to say you can't have sex with a shirt on? Can't get "her knuckle on your grape" (goddammit nasum, I'll never wash that phrase from my memory) with a shirt on?

I doth protest.

Also, this is my attempt to UncleBob y'all.
Also, this is my attempt to UncleBob y'all.
And you're not very good at that. You should go back to telling us what a great business investment it is to throw $50 Billion into a company and get less than half of that back. You were awesome at that.

While I'm perfectly aware that it is possible to have a decent shag (and even an adventurous public one) while still wearing 99% of your clothing, a picture of two people under a blanket does not imply sexual activity. She doesn't have an "O" face going by any stretch of the imagination and if it is fairly well known that these people are, well, you know, "occupying" and all that, they have to sleep at some point. What's to say they weren't taking a nap?

My point is, there is nothing about that picture that tells me that them dirty hippies done be boinkin' on the street and I wasn't there to be able to pee on them!

As for my lovely phrase, once you've done you'll never want it washed from your memory. Takes a special kind of gal, and definitely one without Lee press on nails... yeesh!

You're right. The military, police, firefighters, schools, roads, social security, WIC, EBT, etc should all be abolished because they don't turn a profit and any ancillary benefits should be ignored.

Maybe he's just not very good... hell, they could be having sex and she could be napping. ;)

Seriously, though, people having sex in the streets doesn't bother me. I totally understand how some can find it offensive, but, whatever.

The violence, the destruction, the trash, the defecation... that, to me, is where the issue lies.
