For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

Nice. I was hoping to dump a bunch of DVDs off at Hastings but I guess those will go to Best Buy instead.

So could some please explain how this works?

Is it you trade in one DVD towards one bluray and get $5 off and no stacking?

Sorry for the noobish question. Pretty desperate to get rid of most of my DVD's. Thanks!

Last time it was turn in one regular DVD (in its case), get a $5 voucher good for one Blu-ray $9.99 and up. No stacking.

In the past there was a no music Blu-ray rule. Maybe it was that way last time too, but I don't remember. When this program first started, it was a select list of titles.

Ah, thank you!

You also need to be careful about what kind of voucher you get. Sometimes they don't give you anything and ask that you bring the Blu-rays you want back to the service desk. Sometimes they'll give you a cardboard voucher for each DVD. Sometimes it's one voucher stapled to a receipt that tells you how many you get.

Once you trade in your DVDs, you aren't getting them back, so it might be good to see if they have the same amount of Blu-rays in stock you want to trade for before trading in the DVDs because you're gonna be stuck and will need to use them or lose them. Of course, if you get multiple cardboard vouchers, you can just leave with them and use them whenever before the expiration date.

The biggest pain is when the CSR has no clue about this trade-in program.

1) Can I buy DVDs from the dollar store and trade them in? haha
2) So any DVD gives me $5?
3) If i trade 3 dvds can I use the $15 towards one movie?

1. Yes.
2. Yes, as long as it's in its original case.
3. No. One coupon per movie.

Definitely looking forward to this. I predict a lot of my Best Buy credit diminishing by the time this promotion is over. Sadly, I don't have many DVDs left after the last time, not to mention I donated some to Goodwill.

Try to luck out at your local Dollar Tree like I did and find them on clearance for $.25. Yes, the ones in the cardboard cases count. It just needs a UPC.

Reminder no DVDR or Porn.

Question: I have a several Blockbuster 99cent dvds in SLEEVES. Is it mandatory for artwork/case? I know they simply toss them in a recycle bin beside them. Makes the process assinine.
Is there a limit on how many you can trade in?
I believe it's 5 a day per person.

Will it be possible to apply the upgrade and save coupons to a bestbuy.com receipt (less than 30 days old)?

I just bought all 4 seasons of Battlestar Galactica on bluray for $19.99 a piece. If I can apply the coupons to my receipt, that would be amazing. Also, if you can find the seasons in your best buy stores you could potentially buy the entire Battlestar Galactica series for $60 with 4 upgrade and save coupons.

It's probably a YMMV depending on the CSR you get because you're not price matching, you're trying to apply a later deal to a previous purchase.

Although, if the Galactica seasons are still $19.99 next week... return and rebuy. Or if you've already opened them, buy them and return them with the old receipt.

Nice to see it's coming back! I have a bin of bulk-purchased crap DVDs that even the local CD places won't buy. Definitely a nice way to unload inventory that has tanked in value. Now if the offer only included CDs too.. :D

Thanks. I appreciate the help very much.
Anyone know how long the Batman Begins/TDK steelbooks are on sale for? Would be amazing to get those for $4.99 each
check the shelf tag...they usually tell you when the sale price ends.

Pay attn to the titles youll want. Theyll up the prices on stuff when the deal kicks in. Last go around I was going to get Scarface hoping it would stay 9.99 and the week the last deal started they upped it to 17.99.

Going to say this would be EXTREME YMMV, my call would be NOT A CHANCE. As the other person said to you, you're trying to apply a discount to an item you purchased before the sale was even going on. And this would be different that just say a reduction in price in a sales ad. But hey, give it a try, worst they can say is no.

best buy does not apply coupons after the fact. their systems dont allow it. you would have to return and rebuy with current pricing. if the pricing is the same, you are in luck. if not, then you are sol.

I checked the shelf tag while I was there yesterday, 7/14 it stated.

Regarding this deal, would love to get in on this and pick up a bunch of decent 5$ BLUs. Personally I don't have many DVDs left at home, but I'm sure I can't gather up the crap ones that are left & have been long forgotten about. A few come to mind.

Forgive my ignorance, but can anyone quickly summarize how this works? I've seen this mentioned before but never really read into it. My understanding is that you trade in a dvd, any dvd, and you get a $5 coupon for a Blu Ray. Is that pretty much the jist of it? If so, are there restrictions? Is this available at every store? Where do you trade them in, customer service or where you trade in games? And are there limits on how many you can trade in and how many coupons you could get, and once you have them can you use more than one coupon per transaction?

This has the potential to be good for me. I have a lot of DVDs that are essentially worthless when it comes to online value and am slowly upgrading most of my collection. This would be pretty awesome. Thanks in advance
OP updated with some FAQs on this promotion.
Thanks. Just one other thing that wasn't in the OP. Can you use more than one coupon per transaction or is that limited?

Well, I'm out. Looks like Ass Rangers 9 will be staying home with daddy. Prudes!

oh damn....... so I have 180 in gc's ...I could buy both TNG S1 HD and BSG and still have money left over! yay! Having to use the 5 off promo for each box set will save me money!

Was at Best Buy today and am able to answer a couple questions --

Batman and Dark Knight steelbook sale ends 7/14.

Battlestar Galactica individual seasons sale ends 7/28.

Should be OK to use more than 1 coupon per transaction, but it's 1 coupon per Blu.

This!

Also went to BB and can add that about 90% of the current $9.99 section (the special one near the front of the Blu section) end 7/14. So a whole host of new ones should be incoming.

I'm licking my chops here! :)

Someone over at bluray.com posted the ad and the steelbooks will be $4.99. I guess they are rolling over the $9.99 sale despite the sale ending 7/14 per the shelf tags.

if anyone was planning on getting American Reunion this week, you might want to hold off...

rumor over on the blu-ray.com forums is that the $19.99 price will roll over to next week as well, making it $14.99 after coupon

Has anyone had issues with this when trading the DVDs in? cause the CSRs at my Best Buy are a combination lethal of clueless and dicks.

There are horror stories every time this promotion happens. Personally it's never been an issue for me, but who knows how your neighborhood store will handle it. If you look up previous promotion threads you'll see a lot of awful stories where the customer knows more about the deal than the CSR.

I used to have issues with my BB but after I filed a complaint things work much smoother. I still get a cold unhappy look when I have to deal with old CSRs but the recent ones are much nicer.
