For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.
Went in yesterday to get a couple more to celebrate payday. It's aggravating I collect my paycheck from Best Buy, then turn right around and spend it there, too. Anyways, I ended up getting Gangs of New York for $5, American History X for $5, then I pricematched Walmart for $10 and used my coupon to make it $5. So $15 for what would've originally cost $45.
I'm curious..
What did you pricematch at Walmart to make it $10 and can you use the BestBuy's Buy,Upgrade&Save $5 coupon at Walmart?

Sorry about the confusion! I meant to say that Walmart has it for $10 at my local store, whereas it's $25 at Best Buy. I pricematched so I got it for $10 from Best Buy, then used my trade-in coupon to knock it down to $5. All took place at Best Buy. :)

Thanks to CAG I nabbed the last transformers 3 in 3d (limited ed. w/ slipcover) and Immortals 3d (same thing, last one w/ slip cover). Also picked up season 7 of weeds (I know.. worst season yet of weeds, but I had to complete my collection).

Previously picked up journey to center of earth 3d, and rio 3d.

Only thing I wanted that I couldnt find was expendibles but I wasnt too concerned about it. I absolutely love these $5 trade in promos that BB runs, and I cant believe how many good movies we get for next to nothing. Also to note, I needed 75 more points on my shopkick to get two $2 credits, and there is one employee there that ALWAYS helps me find everything with shopkick. My BB is actually filled with nice people, who WANT to help you get shopkick points, which I find pleasantly surprising.

Are all you guys doing shopkick too? (If you dont know what it is, its a app on your cellphone that you basically "scavenger hunt" things in the store, then you can redeem your points for $2 off coupons, or more. I love playing it, and view it as a game myself.

Again, I think I am lucky with a good best buy. If your in the Harrisburg, PA area, its the one on Jonestown road, Harrisburg, PA. If you ever need help finding shopkick items, go look for the guy that works in games/cameras w/ long hair and kind of looks like a hippy. He is a great guy, and always down to help. Infact, he comes over to you when you have your cell out if he knows your doing shopkick, and asks what can he help you find. Truly a helpful BB employee.

I cant wait for the next time BB does this, but I am running out of dvd's to trade in. Looks like Ill have to go to the dollar tree and find some shit titles to buy. :) Congrats to everyone who found what they wanted, this is one of my favorite BB promos and despite what everyone complains about BB for, my BB must be the exception to the rule, it is an absolute pleasure going there.

I use the heck out of shopkick. I used $50 of Shopkick points just for this sale. I go by so many stores when I work that I accumulate points like crazy.

Cant wait til they do this again.

Picked up;
American reunion bd/dvd/dc
Gremlins 2:new batch
dark knight steel book
Evil dead 2
Bank job with DC & E2mc
Transporter 3 with DC & E2mc
Demolition man
Clockwork orange
Watchmen

Demolition Man!?!? Dammit.

I'm sort of at the point where some DVDs I have, I don't even feel like it's worth $5 to upgrade them to Blus, especially if the transfer isn't great, so I still have 40 or so movies on DVD sitting around. Plus some, like Army of Darkness or Ronin, got crap bonus materials on the Blu releases compared to the good DVDs. That said - I found a copy of Expendables today, along with Iron Man 2, Collateral, and MI: Ghost Protocol (BB exclusive version which was the same price as the normal one) and used up what I think are the few DVDs I still wanted to get rid of. Maybe I'm being silly? I mean, surely even an average Blu transfer should trump the quality on, say, Intolerable Cruelty's DVD?

Went and picked up Sherlock Holmes w/$5 TDKR movie cash for $5 AC, then went over to Walmart and picked up Horton Hears A Who Blu/DVD/DC combo for $7 after manufacturer coupon from coupons.com.

Say you want to return a Bluray, will the coupon you get back be allowed to be reused now that the promo is over?
Say you want to return a Bluray, will the coupon you get back be allowed to be reused now that the promo is over?
Doubtful. They'll just return whatever you paid minus the coupon.

I was afraid that would be the answer, fuck buckets.
I traded in two DVDs today for The Good, The Bad, The Weird and Collateral. I know the latter is awesome, and I've got high hopes for the former being good (I tend to enjoy Eastern action movies ).
I think you will enjoy The Good The Bad. I grabbed it since I saw ppl say it was 5 and i have only seen it once.
Great movie tho

I wish I would have gotten in on the last trade and save but this one has been awesome. Got some great movies for cheap. Really wish tho i could have gotten a Total Recall MBE
I was afraid that would be the answer, fuck buckets.
Curious what movie is it?
I was afraid that would be the answer, fuck buckets.
Why would they allow you to use a coupon that's expired?

Not sure I see the logic in that.

I forgot to mention what I picked up. I was thinking of returning any of them because
Expendables (haven't seen it, don't know what theaters the cash works for, but dvd and digital copy is nice)
Insomnia (blind buy i.e. never seen it)
Das Boot (would prefer the 2 disc set, but it's way too expensive right now)
Why would they allow you to use a coupon that's expired?

I thought maybe they'd still honor it if I did a return or maybe give a credit back. I guess I'm used to Staples.
I only grabbed the two Batman steelbooks, but I traded in Willard and Joy Ride on DVD.
I almost traded in Willard too, I haven't watched it yet though.

Somehow, in all of this buying, we ended up with dupes of Predator UHE and Ghostbusters.

Other than that, we had a pretty good haul, probably doubling our Bluray collection.
I thought maybe they'd still honor it if I did a return or maybe give a credit back. I guess I'm used to Staples.
Staples != Best Buy.

Also, it's a store coupon, you don't get any money back for it. Manufacturer coupons, yes.

anybody run into this problem...

traded 2 movies on monday at the brooklyn ohio store, got a black&white photocopy of the 2 coupons with no receipt.. went to another location today and couldnt get the manager to use them. He said due to the fact i didnt have receipt stapled to the copies. I explained that another didn't due it but he wasn't budging.wasn't to happy but didnt feel like arguing for an hour.

I called home while in the store to make sure I didn't already own Iron Man 2.

I use the My Movies app to keep a catalog, comes in handy.

I wish best buy had more Blu-Rays though. I'd like to get Billy Madison, Clue, Go, and a few others they don't carry.

Had a similar problem as well with my local best buy..
Either they will just give me a coupon and write x(the number of dvds) or have this large photocopy print out...but no receipt. They wouldn't even scan my Silver RZ card for tracking purposes. So I go to another BB that had total recall instock (because the knuckleheads at my bb couldn't seem to find it) and I got shot down by management because I had no trade in receipt. Management even had the nerve to say "that I could have picked it up from the trash..." WTF??

Fiance was with me, and she couldn't remember which ones we had already picked up. Oh well. I'll probably just throw them up on Amazon.

I didn't have any issues in the stores I was at in CT with the photocopied coupons. I did have the receipts though.

I did 3 U&S purchases, I think, none with a receipt - just their official printed coupon. They never asked for a receipt.

when do you guys think this will come back? the last one was in april so another 3-4 months? i have about 15-20 dvds that i still want to recycle and i think i got every movie i wanted. hopefully next time around, some of the newer releases now will be lower priced later.

I think there might have been one that you are missing maybe in June?

Hopefully it'll come back in september/October but something makes me think it'll come back January/February....if they survive the holiday season.
This sale is a massive success for them, I'll be surprised if it's not back by Halloween
But, I wonder how does Bestbuy makes money off this kind of promotion?

Some of the newer titles like MI:4 GP BB Exclusive 3 discs is worth more than $5.

Here's a list of all the things I picked up during this last U&S:
Battlestar Galactica s1-4
Platoon
Cannonball Run
Stand By Me
Army of Darkness
Tin Man
Altered States
Batman Begins Steelbook
Dark Knight Steelbook
Expendables
Shawshank Redemption
The Fifth Element (replacing my old, bad version)
Das Boot
Rome s1-2
(2 free tickets to Dark Knight rises, 1 free ticket to Expendables 2)

. . . I certainly hope that they run this promotion again in a couple of months. After looking through my collection, I've picked up around 35-40 titles over the last couple of ones they've had.
This sale is a massive success for them, I'll be surprised if it's not back by Halloween
i would think it was a great success since i noticed a lot more people buying blu rays in the stores including myself who swore to stop buying movies because i thought it was a waste of money. i didn't own any blu ray movies before this sale, but i'm sure i bought over 100 blu rays because of this sale.

when it started three weeks ago, they were giving me 5 real coupons with trade in receipt. after a week or so, they started only giving 1, and then a lot of the stores had to resort to photocopy coupons. they are generating blu ray sales for sure, but i'm not sure what type of profit margins they are making.

i know i did buy a lot of junk movies because they were $5 that i would not have bought otherwise and it started me in the addicting blu ray collecting.

With all the Batman Begins and TDK steelbooks still left at my store, they gotta move them somehow.

Yeah I hope this comes back soon too, although I am out of DVDs. Used a bunch that have been sitting collecting dust. Even if it was just for Batman Begins and Dark Knight it made it worth it, esp cause I used the tickets for TDR too. Ended up paying less than $5 for each if you count the money saved from the movie ticket (and I got to see it in IMAX) and sold the digital copies, I ended up gettin the blu-rays for almost free

My haul

Ice Age Trilogy
Firefly Complete Series
Boondocks Saints 10th T&J (replaced my DVD version I traded in)
Batman Begins steelbook
Dark Knight steelbook
Matrix Trilogy (used movie cash too)
Inception (used movie cash)
Last Samurai
Fifth Element
The Lorax
Rio 3D
MI4 GP 3 disc
Good the Bad the Weird
Sherlock Holmes 1/2

I had 1 blu ray from Blockbuster I got in a 5 for 20 (Batman Gotham Knights) and now I have a bunch of blu-rays.

I wish I could have gotten a Total Recall MBE, Snatch, and Scarface.

I know it said this ended on 8/11, but i was at my local BBY yesterday and they still had the posters up advertising the deal.

Think if i went back they'd honor it?
Worth a shot; hell, maybe I'll try my luck at lunch to get Royal Tenenbaums for $15.
Is it $20?
Yep and from the transfer reviews, totally worth it, as expected.
I have no question the disc will over deliver. Just happy to see it at $20.

i seen the banner still up on sunday. but it did say valid xx/xx - 08/11 on it too.

i doubt the coupons will just scan and will probably need an override.

went to my nearest BB today and asked what i could do with the 2 trade in credits i didn't get to use, and i was told to hang on to my receipt and they would give me another coupon when the promotion starts again. this may be a YMMV but the info came directly from the manager. has anyone else experienced this scenario?
I have no question the disc will over deliver. Just happy to see it at $20.
Next time to get it at that price would be B&N for the other Criterion sale, probably in November.

I'd rather grab it now and save the coupons/discounts for other titles coming out between now and then.
