For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

I went back and bought Hugo 3D today for $14.99. I also managed to price adjust my $7.99 Total Recall MBE down to $4.99.

It took at least 5 tries to try to explain to the customer service person that I wanted to price adjust it to the higher price to use the coupon. She was very helpful though. It was still worth the $2.99.

It makes up for when they shut me down for trying to use the Universal 100 coupon today. The manager told me they weren't getting reimbursed for those coupons anymore. I dislike being lied to.
Today?!?! WTF. Why's it expire so soon. These tickets never expire so quickly. The movie just came out. UGGGH.
Yeah, it sucks. I was surprised too. I saw it again in IMAX yesterday and then I saw it again today in DBOX to use up the rest of my coupons. Now I've seen it 3 times in less than a week and 4 times all together (3 times in IMAX. 1 in DBOX. Thanks Best Buy).
LoLzzz!
Haha. I stole that joke from Jimmy Kimmel I think. It made me laugh too.
The Dark Knight Rises movie codes expire today!!!
Yup, and my Spiderman movie codes and Ted movie codes aren't expired yet. Oh yeah, those movies came out before TDKR.

I got Expendables today, but didn't notice it didn't have the movie cash on it. I hope they will let me exchange for one that does (if my BB even has any...).

This was not in the FAQ, but can you use the coupons with OMS in store? I'd like to see if I can exchange my MI4 for the BB one since I didn't know it was available online, but I don't know if they would let me. I'd give up a dollar for it (an extra DVD) if I had to, I guess.
i think the problem with that is that it is YMMV and a lot of bestbuy employees will not stack a price match with coupon but nice if your bestbuy does it. I asked about spiderman blu rays when it was on sale for $9.99 a week ago at frys and that is what they told me. Some bestbuys even refused to use the universal $3 coupon with the U&S coupon since they claim it is double dipping.
Agreed. I tried the PM with my local Walmart too and then tried use the coupon, no go. They can't process this. Requires mgr override. Mgr says no! :bomb:

I PM Barnes & Noble and was able to use the coupon with no problems. It rang up correct.

Did you had them PM first, and then use the coupon?

i watched it again this today and still have 2 leftover that i just expire. i was able to stack it today at a different theater since the guy just took them as a credit card payment as the coupon stated. i wish i would have tried asking that the first time instead of paying the balance. after watching it 2 times, i doubt i could sit through it again since i felt like i could have been doing better things than wasting 3 hours to watch it again today just to use the coupon before it expired.

Expendables 2? how the hell did you get that? time travel?

last time they had the trade and save, I got them to PM target on Harold and Kumar Christmas at 9.99, and the let me use a coupon, for a total out of pocket of 4.99.
I do think it depends A LOT the person ringing you up. Some follow the rules to a T, and some don't.

2 times now I have had the employee fail to take the tradein receipt after ringing up the coupons. Right now I have 10 extra coupons sitting here and have been struggling to find $10 or $15 or even $20 movies to pick up.

Not sure if I'm just lucky that they didn't take the receipts or if that has been happening to many other people as well.

are the 3d blu ray movies that are on sale for $20 ($15 with coupon) worth it? i'm new to 3d and considering getting a few, but how low do 3d movies go during big sales like black friday? $10?

i got ice age dawn of the dinosaurs for $5 and not sure if the 3d version is worth $15.

With this sale we have increased our 3D library from 2 to 15. I have been relying on review sites to get a good idea as to the quality of the 3D. But there are quite a few (Hugo being a prime example) where the 3D effect is worth the cost to me.

Interesting. I watched the Hugo 3D demo at Best Buy and found it lame. The effect was essentially 2D objects in discrete foreground and background planes, like a child's paper cut-out diorama. Not at all immersive. It was displayed on an LG 3D HDTV and I assume the glasses they put out were compatible. What do you think went wrong?
Bought Rome season 1, season 2 and John Adams for $60. Good freaking deal.
Thanks for the heads up, looks like the prices online have come down to match or beat Amazon. If it is the same in store, looks like I will be trading in more DVDs!

Which other $19.99 ($14.99 after coupon) 3D blurays would you say are worth the cost? If you had to rank them, what would be the order of the top 5?

1. Hugo
2. ?
3. ?

I don't know. I saw it at the theater and thought it was the best use of 3D I've ever seen. I thought it was more immersive than the 3D in Avatar.

Buying Hugo 3D was a no brainer for me. I have literally every Scorsese bluray release, so I needed to add it to my collection. Scorsese is my favorite director of all time.

I watched Total Recall mind bending edition and most of the special features earlier today. It's worth the $4.99 if you can find it. I watched the movie once maybe 8 or 10 years ago. It was much better than I remember.

I can't tell you 4 others, but I would definitely recommend Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Another one (although not $14.99 after coupon), is Captain America which is $19.99 after coupon.

On another note... Has anybody watched Wrath of the Titans in 3D? Someone near me had the 3D steelbook for sale on Craigslist for $15.

FYI to those who picked up Total Recall ME last week for $8 at BB. I received my BB.com copy on Saturday and went in today to return, rebuy using the U&S promo. No movie cash sticker, but I wasn't planning to go see the Exp 2 anyways.

$4.99 after U&S plus tax and out the door in about 10 mins.

How about these two action/scifi 3d flicks?

Resident Evil - Afterlife
Underworld - Awakening

Good enough for $15 buy each after $5 off?

Grabbed MI:GP, Expendables, Batman 1 and 2 and promptly took them to Moviestop and traded them for paid preorders for Snow White and the Huntsmen and Avengers. Gotta love Moviestop :)

I'm not huge on the "All time desert island top 5" type lists (but High Fidelity comes out on Blu-Ray tomorrow,) so I'll give you the movies that we have and (and have watched) and you can make up your mind from there.

Hugo is up there with Avatar in how impressive the 3D looks, due to the fact that it was shot in 3D. The visuals that I saw with our Epson projector were very impressive and I thought it was a great use of the 3D technology. Add that to the fact that it was a terrific story and I really enjoyed it.

I watched Legend of the Guardians with my daughters over the weekend and was really startled at the amount of depth that was added to that film. Again it was a film that I enjoyed to watch with them and thought that the 3D effect did add something to the film. (That being said, my friend did have issues watching it because of the effects.)

Rio 3D was well received by my daughters and my wife, but I have not had a chance to watch it to this point.

As for the others, (The Shrek films, MegaMind, Puss in Boots, and the Kung Fu Panda films,) they were a chance to buy the Blu-Ray for the film when we didn't have it already. So, in the case of those ones I was spending close to the same price or a few dollars more than it would have been to have the Blu-Ray.

My store ran out of Total Recall: MBE. So, got to ship to store and hopefully it will arrive by 8/11 for pickup otherwise no chance to save $5.
My friends told me Hugo & The Adv. of Tintin is terrible movies !!! i'll pass :(
Hugo? I don't think they have any idea what they're talking about. It was nominated for Best Picture. The cinematography was absolutely amazing and the choreography was brilliant.

Easily one of the best pictures that I've seen in the past 10 years.

Meet The Robinsons is awesome. One of my favorite Disney moves. Very underrated

I'm very curious to check it out in 3D now. I really enjoyed it as well. Definitely an underrated Disney film.
Bought RED as blind buy today, but disappointed because just noticed that it has no features.
As a warning to others, the single disc version also has 2 other negatives compared to the 2-disc version: sound is not DTS-MA and video bit-rate is lower. So if you're looking for the best quality A/V experience, you'd need to get the 2-disc version (not on sale).

Yeah I loved it. My kids well it's just okay to them. I don't understand why this movies is not held in higher regard.

This deserves repeating - Red is one of the few movies where the 2 disc version is different from the single disc version. It was a failed experiment by the studios to see if consumers would buy a cheaper product at the sacrifice of audio and video quality.

Wow, do the studios really save that much money? Did they use a 25gb bluray disc instead of a 50gb bluray disc? I mean, they already had the high-end transfer in their hands and went ahead and spent resources to create a crappier looking and sounding transfer?
BB still running the "phone upgrade check" promo as well?
Ended a couple of weeks ago, I believe.

Picked up Total Recall: MBE last night, no movie cash. I recommend checking out the commentary track for some serious lulz. Movie holds up pretty well, but made me want to watch Basic Instinct.

I've got a few more coupons to burn, does anyone have any lesser known recommendations? Comedies or action movies in particular.
Is the Lorax worth a blind buy at $15?
I don't mean to be insensitive, but I don't think a blind person really benefits from buying movies very much...

Har har see what I did there?:drool:

Went back today and bought Tin Tin 3D and Transformers DOTM 3D for $14.99 a piece after coupons. Thanks for the recommendations from everyone. I'd go back and get some more if I had the money. I kind of want Puss in Boots because I have Shrek 1-4 in 3D. I'd also like to have Thor and Captain America in 3D, but I might wait for a deal on the complete Marvel Collection.
Anyone finding the Spaceballs 25th Anniversary edition in stores? Is it $14.99?
Dammit. I forgot to look for that one today.
Yes.
Wow. That's insane. Of course people don't buy blurays for superior picture and sound. As consumers, we want dvd quality blurays, but we want to pay more than DVD costs. That makes perfect sense.
