Has anyone heard anything on if the strategy guide is worth getting? Keep in mind I practically know nothing about pre-play adjustments, etc. All I know about related to those are that you can flick the right stick to flip the running play direction, and that I can push X to bring up some quick audibles in case someone does a no huddle. I have tried experimenting with O-Line shifts in the past, but it seems as if they have always never done anything. For example, I choose pinch, and I still get sacked immediately after the snap for a play action (which happens every single time I pick a play action, no matter if I try an O-Line shift or not).
If you're talking about play actions in past Madden games, yeah...it was never a good play. The defense never bit on the fake the way they should have. That's been fixed this year. Play action has been very effective so far this year, both for me and against me, haha.
Overall though, if you feel like you have a long ways to go with learning the game, then I can't imagine that the strategy guide would hurt (plus it would give you some good bathroom reading). A lot of the veterans in this league are more than happy to share advice though.
Personally, I shift my line more on defense. Occasionally I'll move my offensive line, but it's such a cat and mouse game of giving away too much about your play, sometimes it isn't worth it. Learning your audibles well, and having multiple plays that you can run out of the same formation (so you're not switching from I formation to a 3 wide shotgun set, making it obvious that you audibled from a run play to a pass play) will help you a lot.
