The only reason this was done in season one was because some teams were mistakenly left on autopilot when we advanced...which prevented them from being able to negotiate with their own free agents at all. In many cases, the CPU just allowed all of the players to become free agents.

That would be my only hesitation. Teams with new owners very easily could get screwed out of players. But honestly, we have plenty of time to figure out how to deal with that. We're halfway through this season and have a destroyed team to worry about right now. The offseason is the furthest thing from my mind right now.

What is the cowboys record. If it's better than the chargers I'll take the cowboys and deal with the mess.

Agreed, maybe only teams that the owner was switched during the season, even teams that trade for a player know the risk of not being able to resign a player.

I'd like to see it just be a list of guys who owners couldnt resign due to either new ownership or trades, while the rest of FA is open. The list of off-limits guys is done before FA starts (if Nate wants help I'll gladly volunteer as would some of the committee I'm sure) and anybody who makes an offer on an off-limits guys gets a strike. This way we can have 3 full weeks of offers for guys who are actually available in FA.

Ok, I'll get your invite sent here in a little bit and you can get to work on piecing that roster back together.

If it can actually be determined what players people legitimately got screwed on, I wouldn't be opposed to it. I definitely don't have time to sort that out though, so anybody who wants to put together a reasonable list, I'll take a look at it.
Do you have what it takes to compete?

It would definitely have to rely somewhat on the honor system, but the basic gist of it would be guys on teams that had owner changes (so the Browns, Packers, Cowboys, I dont think any other teams have had new user owners who werent previously CPU controlled) and 1 year guys dealt in trades, which is pretty easy to track since we can go back and look at any trade in the thread. I'd definitely volunteer to help with that when the offseason comes around.

See I don't think including players that were traded is fair. Some people will take them then just to get to offer them a long term contract. I really feel it should be more like a rental and you get lucky and resign them. Isn't that how the trade committee views it during a trade? If not then guys with 1 year left would have to be considered differently. Dwayne Bowe has this season left so its not like I wouldn't be affected by this.

I agree. I think including final year players is coddling too much. Honesty, I don't like that the other league does it. It's one thing if you're a new owner and your players were negotiated with before you got there. But if you actively orchestrated a trade, and then that player decides he wants no part of your team, isn't that just the way things go? That happens in real life. This concept of "dibs" just feels incredibly phony to me.

Is CAG being wonky for anybody else right now?

But you dont even get to make an offer on a traded guy for him to decide on. Thats the part that is so unrealistic to me. I think you should get one shot to offer a traded guy a good deal (and you'll have to overpay a little for him probably with how the CPU handles negotiations) but its downright silly to me that a traded player would just walk away from his new team without ever listening to a contract offer from them. To me, that's as phony as it gets.

What about guys who are traded to teams and they're not happy about the trade at all? I realize that it probably doesn't happen as much as it used to because now team's wouldn't trade for the player if they didn't think they'd be able to re-sign him. I don't know. I'm open to ideas. I just don't like the idea of "dibs", that traded players in the final year of their deal can ONLY be offered contracts by their current team. If anything, I'd rather just apply our contract rules to those guys (ie. current team can offer 7 year deal...while new teams can only offer length player is asking for). At least that way, the player would have to turn down a really huge contract if he wanted to leave town that badly. If you just give his current team "dibs", you're basically just relying on the Madden logic that "no players sign in the first week of free agency", which to me hasn't really been all that true.

If a player wants to test the open market, they have that right. Lets not forget about the franchise tag. I had to use mine last offseason. It's there for a reason.

We're talking about a video game here. It is completely unrealistic that a traded player in the final year of his deal wouldnt even show up in the resign players section of the offseason for that team. This is bad programming by EA (surprise surprise) but its foolish to punish owners by not having him even consider an offer. All I'm saying is that, in that first week of FA, let that team have exclusive rights to negotiate with him as their resign window basically. If after that, he turns down the offer, than of course he's free to sign. You may not like the idea of "dibs", but I (and I'm sure I'm not the only owner who thinks this) don't like the idea of a guy not even considering resigning with his team because EA screwed up their programming.

I'm waiting to speak to someone from microsoft, they cancelled my XBOX Live because the auto payment was on an old card. They won't allow me to add a new card until I settle the old bill, which is on a no longer existent card. So I'm waiting to get them on the phone to get it settled.

I guess technically. We'll still need someone to squat the Cowboys to re-sign those players...but I guess if everyone else is human controlled (and not on autopilot), we don't have to worry about those players getting signed. But you'd have to get on and actually take the Chargers before we could advance anyway. I sent you an invite.

I also went ahead and made sure everybody is off of autopilot (which was Kaster, uber, and FrankySox), so I can just click advance on the website whenever njrockpd is able to join. And now...I'm going to go make a sandwich. No, really...I am. :)

Haha, thanks man. Actually, I just thought of something. You could clean up the mess, and then drop and take the Chargers if you wanted. That would at least get those high end players out of free agency. Totally up to you though. If you'd rather play as the Cowboys, you're welcome to have them.

Here's some helpful info for you too that Dark Rider was kind enough to put together. Hopefully this will make it a bit easier on you.

FYI: The Cowboys have dropped the following players. DO NOT PICK THEM UP! They belong to the next Cowboys owner, after the current owners tantrum.

Jason Witten
DeMarcus Ware
Brandon Carr
Tyron Smith
Anthony Spencer
Sean Lee
Miles Austin
Morris Claiborne
Jay Ratliff

Just another note, they currently have 15M in cap penalties in 2013, and 30M in 2014. Basically, they are fucked.

Once again: DO NOT SIGN ANY OF THE LISTED PLAYERS!

According to my calculations, (Adjusts Glasses)

The Cowboys currently have
42.11M Cap Space
-14.30M
= 27.81M Cap Space

Cap Space = 27.81M
Salaries of FAs = 28.95M
Left Over Cap = -1.14 (Negative)

I will summarize by saying that they do not have the space. A few cuts and it might be possible though.

I don't think so.

Cowboys
2013 Cap: $130.00M
Salaries: $105.65M
2013 Cap Penalty: $14.40M
Cap Space: $9.95M

Subtract salaries and cap penalty from the 2013 cap, and you're left with the cap space.

I could only sign them to one year deals. I'll make it work but the cowboys are ready to make a comeback after a GM change.
