Survivor 14: Fiji - Official Discussion Thread

Well I used to like survivor alot but you know it is kinda like chocolate, you really like it but after 14 bars of it you start feeling nauseous.

I will probably watch this season also but unless they do some big change in it it just kinda gets boring and repetitive.

I always hate Survivor for the first 6 weeks because they are voting off dead weight and people you don't really know - the last 10 weeks are usually great though. I will definitely be watching - it has yet to disappoint although I think the immunity idol needs to go or the rules need to be changed because once someone has it and announces it to the group they are pretty much untouchable until the final 4 because it's too complicated to set up a vote to get rid of the idol and have the second most votes go to someone the majority group wants to send home.

I'm looking forward to it because it has never really disappointed before, but the commercials for it have been just awful this season. It's bad when a commercial makes you NOT want to watch.

Not sure if I'm liking this idea of "winners live in luxury" since that takes away from the Survivor/stranded on an island experience. I'll definitely be watching though.

That's the same premise for this season of the Apprentice as well. I know they're from the same creator but it's strange they're going with the same angle for both shows at the same time. I wonder which show the idea was originally for?

I agree, not liking to commercials. But i'll still watch. Off and on for the first few weeks, but always at the end. =P

Looking forward to tonight.

I love me some Survivor and hadn't missed a season since picking it up in Marquesas...however I lost my love last season with the racial thing. I tried and wanted to and tried to like it some more and it just never happened. Sad thing is, I heard last season was rather good.

Anywho, I say strip Survivor down to what it was S1 and 2 or even back to 1 swap. But let's leave the gimmicks out of it, the social aspect is what drew people in.

The racial thing only lasted for the first two episodes. They reshuffled the tribes in the third episode.

Damn, I missed all the challenges. Caught only the tribal. That sucks. Any huge twists? Someone care to spoiler me? Or tell me where I can catch it perhaps?

There sure are a lot of Asians this season.

No real twists except
one tribe gets food, shelter, couch, hammoks, a toilet and a shower and the other tribe gets jack.
It was just like the start of any other Survivor though...

Yeah, and the fact that one tribe has that stuff is really no different than about the halfway point of other seasons. The jacked tribe is basically starting where most of the other Survivor seasons have started.

I still wish they'd bring back the 11 mile hike to start the game.

yeah I know the racial thing only lasted 2 eps, but for some reason it seemed to put a damper on the season for me..iunno why

Actually, I think there were a number of opening twists.

OK, I'm assuming by Saturday, everyone's seen everything, no?

First, one survivor quit moments before getting on the boat, and I think that made them scramble a bit for the team choosing business.

Then they were put on a boat, knowing they were headed into the game, but with no other info, and NO JEFF. So they were ALL hanging out on the beach, exploring and whatnot. Then they got an air dropped box that told them they had to find lumber and supplies and build a very nice shelter. The whole group, no teams yet. So they really had a sense of each other, since they were together for two days, unlike other seasons where they don't know squat about the other people.

Then they went to a clearing and Jeff questioned them about who arose as the leader. They all agreed it was the architect, because they were building primarily for two days. She alone chose teams and was sent to exile, but she was immune. She will come back to join whomever voted someone out. This is where I wonder about the quitter. Would the exiled person have rejoined a specific tribe had someone not quit? Would they have sent both "captains" who chose tribes to exile if there were one other person?

The whole rejoining thing played out in tribal. The losing tribe said who will be worse than the architect? Because we KNOW we get her.

I think it looks interesting. And there's supposedly two idols this year. Are they equal? Are they tribe specific? And the clue said it's at camp.

That's interesting about the opening. Was there a reason why this person did that that early in the game? That kinda pisses me off if it's a minor reason since tons of people out there want a chance to do the show and then you quit before it all starts.

You'd think they'd have alternates ready to go.

It was in the opening couple minutes. Jeff's voiceover was saying the people were told to get into a boat and paddle to X location. They were given no other instructions. And one person quit "moments before getting into the boat."

The girl that quit before the show started had a problem with panic attacks. Her doctor thought she would be alright, but they got worse during the few weeks that the Survivors are on the island (but separated) before the game starts.

I think instead of another All-Star season, they should have a "Hot Girls Who Seemed Pretty Cool But Got Voted Out Way Too Early" season. That would boost ratings......in my pants. Glavin!

I haven't bumped, updated this in a while...highlights have been pretty slim.

This episode had two good laugh-out-loud moments:

Yau Man found the immunity idol and reburied the painted coconut that said "I.I."

Michelle fell off the watchtower during the challenge. Good sport though, got right up and climbed back on.

OMG! Both of those were stunningly hilarious! Just in case, I.I.

If someone else finds the coconut and tries to play it - it will be the fuinniest moment in the history of Survivor. The "I.I." was insanely funny - OMG the turtle didn't say I.I.!!! How does he know it's real????

Yau Man is a crafty S.O.B. And that Michelle moment was great.

BTW, this was from a few shows back, but they had one of the most disgusting Survivor animal cutscenes I've ever seen. There was one of a snake regurgitating something. I don't know what the hell it was if it was that even, but it was nasty as hell.

I bet Boo will think it's real. That boy is a box of rocks.

Anyone care to help me out with a quick summary of this week's episode? I didn't get a chance to see it or record it.
Anyone care to help me out with a quick summary of this week's episode? I didn't get a chance to see it or record it.
Worst summary ever:
Lisi got voted off. They had to dance for their reward challenge and Earl was great so that tribe won. For the immunity challenge they had to hit targets with a bow & arrow, spear and blow dart - Yaoman won it for them again.
Anyone care to help me out with a quick summary of this week's episode? I didn't get a chance to see it or record it.
I'll give it a try as well:

The episode started with Lisi and Dreamz sleeping in camp and literally at their feet, Alex, Edgardo and Mookie dug for the immunity idol. Mookie was the one who was able to dig it up and the three players decided to keep the information from the other two players. They also decided to mutually use the idol for each other's benefits. However, Mookie says to the camera something to the effect of, "They may think it's ours, but it's in my pocket."

The reward challenge involved learning a traditional Fiji dance from locals for a Fijian feast. They donned traditional wear and performed for three Fijian dancers. Moto, led by Earl looked focused and hungry for the chicken and pork that was being prepared feet away. Ravu struggled as Alex looked around cluelessly as to the steps and Dreamz added his own flair at the end by doing a back flip, but to no avail. Ravu lost again and Moto jubilantly awaited their spoils.

Lisi was sent to Exile where she had yet another breakdown. Earl on the other hand, celebrated and embraced the opportunity to take in the Fijian culture.

Immunity Challenge involved marksmanship as the tribes squared off in a blow dart, spear, and bow and arrow shooting arcade.

The blow darts was a back and forth affair as the tribes exchanged shots, progressively getting closer to the bulls eye. Boo hit the target on the tribe's fourth shot and Edgardo (having hailed his proficiency in archery and vowing to do well in the challenge), failed, leaving Earl sitting on the sidelines, not having to take a shot.

The spears saw each tribe doing pathetically with the first few not even making the target and Dreamz barely hitting the outer edge for a Ravu slim lead. Yau Man, however, came to the rescue, as with a "style of his own", he propelled the spear for a win with a running start, showing his "guns" after to celebrate. Edgardo, once again had the chance to win the point for Ravu, but failed to even reach the target. Moto led 2-0.

The bow and arrow, worth three points, kept Ravu's hopes alive. However, those hopes were once again dashed by the wily Yau Man as he dropped to a knee and pierced the target to improve Moto's position. Edgardo, once again with the opportunity and with his confidence stoking him, failed to get the bow to the target and the victorious Moto tribe swept the events and took home the Immunity once again, with Earl, not having to participate once due to Ravu's ineptitude.

Back at Ravu camp, Alex and Edgardo debated on who to kick off between Dreamz and Lisi. The former due to his close to tie with Moto's Cassandra and the latter due to her physical and mental weakness. The choice was made a bit easier, as Lisi asked the tribe to vote her off saying she had experienced everything there was to experience in the game.

However, moments before heading to tribal, Lisi had a change of mind and called on her two alliance members to end Dreamz at tribal.

Tribal proved to be quite heated between the two. When confronted by Dreamz as to whether she wanted to be there or not, Lisi was unable to reply with a firm response which proved to be her undoing, sending Lisi off to become the second member of the jury along with Rocky.

Whew. That didn't turn out to be so quick on my part.

Yao man ROCKS! I loved the looks on all their faces when he pulled it out.

Steve McQ, you forgot one of my favorite parts--Alex acting as his own narrator: "I lift my hands in despair, as if to say WHAT THE HELL?!" Yes, that's a direct quote.

SteveMcQ?

Dreamz doesn't seem too bright. He talks about how he needs to vote Stacy off but votes for Michelle. Then in the preview for next week is shown telling Cassandra and Earl about Mookie's immunity.

Anyone else notice Cassandra's 'stache? Yikes!
SteveMcQ?
I'm not too happy with the 3rd person joining the jury. Damn Dreamz. The person they voted off was nice to look at and had a bubbly personality.
What a great expression Alex had on his face at tribal. :D ---->
QFT. All three were grinning with their three votes. Then it went to hell. :applause:

I don't think I have ever seen a face fall so fast. It was sad and hilareous at the same time.

Didn't know there were survivor watchers here. Tonight's episode was the most entertaining episode this season. I was totally cracking up when Jeff pulled out the three Casandra votes and had the three grinning and thinking their plan had worked. Let's not forget that they wasted the idol also, but Jeff said it would be rehidden. Wonder what that will cook up.

I was rooting for Dreamz in the beginning but now I think he's one of the worst survivors ever. When Earl questioned his loyalty, to save his own skin he blurts out that Mookie has the hidden idol. He's trying to play both sides but he's not really smart about it.

Interesting. I went from hating Dreamz (because he seemed like a real horse's rear end) to liking him for his brutal honest (the whole "Cassandar or Lisi have to go; dressing down Lisi at tribal counsel) to thinking his is too wishy washy and don't like or dislike him. I think it is clear that he is a man without an alliance now, so it will be interesting to see where things go from. . . Or the alliance 5 may say that he has proven himself and give him his spot back.

I just loved watching Rocky on the jury when he realized the deal had gone sour. I think Dreamz is in actual survivor mode--do whatever it takes, sell out whomever is necessary to get to the next level. Unfortunately, he should realize that his own alliance didn't trust him with the switch to Edgardo.

I thought it was so funny that the guys absolutely pegged Dre and knew he would run back and tell the others once he knew about the immunity idol.

It was sad watching
Mookie and Alex self-destruct like that...until Alex finally threw the curveball of desperation and self-preservation with his vote.
I'm still not sure if it was an admirable or a despicable move.

I too wonder which side of the coin I'm on in the despicable/admirable tussle. I'm quite amazed that, for a lawyer, he's not that great at reading people. And can you say LOOK before you speak?

OMG, Boo's knee sounded just awful.
