Odin Sphere (PS2) - $34.99 + FREE S&H @ Outpost.com

Thanks OP, I've been kind of on the fence about this one, but I'm sure I would have ended up picking it up on my way home from work Wednesday. This saves me a few dollars, at least (I'm tired of exploiting GCO).

You know, I've been following this game religiously and I can't wait to get my hands on it! Wheee! It looks awesome!

So awesome that I'm going to buy it MSRP because I can't wait for the shipping, lol.
I honestly shouldn't be buying this because of a huge backlog, but I did anyway.
I'm in the same boat, but $35 isn't too bad. I could see this getting hard to find in the not-too-distant future, so I figured I'd better jump now.

Any idea how long this game is? I'm hoping to [finally] wrap up FFXII in the next couple of weeks, so I'm trying to decide if I should start this next, or get into Rogue Galaxy.
might as well scoop it up for $34.99 + FREE S&H + NO SALES TAX :)
FYI: "Please note that we charge sales tax for AZ, CA, GA, OH, TX, NV,WA, IL and IN."

Which means that I end up saving $2.81 over Amazon's price after tax.

Argh, awesome price, but I have to start putting my foot down and stop throwing away so much cash, only to INCREASE my backlog. I really really want this, but I can't help but think that if I bought it now, I wouldn't touch it for another couple of years AT LEAST. :(
Hmmm...got an error checking out. Was using Firefox as the browser. Should I have been using IE?
FF works for me.

I hope that no body else offers some cool bonus with this game... otherwise, I'll most likely jump ship as I love me some extras.

Oh well, ordered a copy but tax pretty much killed any sort of deal since I only saved a few bucks over retails... better than nothing I suppose. I might try the Google Checkout thing tomorrow.
its 28.99 with free (GCO) on buy.com ....
Its 33.38 or something in California cuz of sales tax when you use GCO at buy.com

I pre-ordered it last week, can't wait to get my copy!!!:D

Coming from someone that just forced himself to play and finish Rogue Galaxy: don't bother--move on to Odin Sphere. Rogue Galaxy manages to ride the "average" line for the entire game, which only becomes a problem when you realize how long the game is--anything good about the game (aka. graphics, synthesis) is balanced out by the bad (aka. story/characters, combat, encounter rates, stale gameplay after 10-15 hours, etc.).

I'm really on the fence, but my common sense told me that I have 40 games backlogged now (which reminds me that I need to trim that fat...).

I'll wait until it's clearanced under $20.

How dependable is outpost anyway? I've tried these pre-order thengs before and the games never showed up. They never even refunded my money until I contacted them and complained.

They just take a while to ship with pre-orders that are generally popular. It's common with Outpost since they have a lot of online deals and thus attract a lot of pre-orders. I've probably ordered about 10 things from there and cancelled one. All of which I had no problem with but the pre-orders did take a few weeks to arrive.

I just went ahead with Amazon personally. I'd rather have the game sooner for that extra couple bucks. This is one game that'll shoot to the front of my backlog and will probably play it non-stop. More so since I have a week of vacation from work the week after next.

I don't know why people are so excited right now. There aren't any respectable reviews out yet. 'Play' magazine overrates almost everything. 'Worth Playing' just gave Odin Sphere a 68%, and they talk about how repetitivie it is. Recycled enemies, fighting the same bosses over and over, etc. This game looks beautiful, but I wouldn't judge it solely on that and the fact that it might be rare in a month or two. I'm waiting for the Gamespot, IGN, EGM, and Game Informer reviews myself.

I sure hope it turns out great, though. I really want this game, too.

I've actually found that I agree with Play's opinion on games a whole lot more than I do with IGN, GS and GI. And certainly more than with EGM. I'm not sure what's happened to them, but that's a terrible magazine now. They're about as far from "respectable reviews" as it gets IMO.

I don't know, I get the feeling that the game won't ever drop to $20. I foresee the game selling out due to a limited print run and eager fans snapping it up.

That said, I'll just buy it at my local independent game shop. Sure, it might cost a few bucks more, but I'm supporting the small guy and keeping the money local.

it looks like the type of game I enjoy, I always wanted to play princess crown, I'm not worried about reviews and under $30 is a great deal.
Famitsu gave it a respectable 32/40. Even disgaea can be accused of being repetitive.
thanks for the buy.com link, i purchased it there.

I'm kind of in the same boat about EGM and my increasing lack of interest in most professional reviews ... but has Play ever really rated a game poorly? Really ... ever? Didn't they give Voodoo Vince a near perfect score? It's a nice looking mag, but they pretty much review on the same curve GamePro does.

According the this weeks EGM Podcast, the game received high review scores, and is much loved around the office; and, seeing as how they tend to be rather picky, I'd say this is a good indication that Odin Sphere is gonna rock.

Anyone know if BB is stocking this so I can use a GGC? Also, EB is shipping out today, but everyone else seems like next week.

Best Buy is not stocking this as far as I can tell. I was there an hour ago and I asked. Not that that means anything for sure, but they very rarely carry games like this. Ar Tonelico was an extreme exception

Someone in the Odin Sphere thread in the PS2 forums said they'll have it on the 29th.

Best Buy doesn't carry a lot of niche games, especially Atlus ones... mine never carried Magna Carta or Riveria. But it does carry stuff like Trauma Center and many of Atlus' DS titles. I heard it was YMMV as to what is/isn't carried.

Anyway, my order at FRYs was back-ordered. So I just canceled it and got it for $28.99 at Buy.com with GCO. For some reason, GCO works for me again (did it with RE4 Wii too) so I figured, why not save the $10 even if their shipping is slow as hell.

I preordered it last night from Outpost/Fry's since Buy wouldn't give me the google checkout (I signed up a while back but never ordered anything to use the discount)... I ordered it along with the 2nd and 3rd Seasons of Arrested Development and Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb (PC)... I had to pay shipping because of the other stuff I bought... and tax... but I figured I'd never find Odin Sphere again (thought this does seem to be one of the most hyped Atlus niche games released)...

I keep getting errors when clicking on the link, and when I search the Outpost/Frys site for Odin Sphere I also get errors. I'm going to try to find it by browsing.

EDIT: Found it and ordered it from Outpost/Frys. If anyone else has trouble searching for it, just browse under the PS2 RPGs. :)
Gamespot gave it a 7.6.

I pre-ordered the game this morning, and while Gamespot's criticisms are disheartening, I'd rather have my expectations lowered than go in expecting perfection. For example, now I won't be surprised by this:
However, the problem is that between each stage you have to wait for the game to load. It usually takes only 10 seconds or so to load the next stage, but when the stages take only 20 seconds to clear, the load times become problematic.
Or this:

What hurts Odin Sphere the most is the tremendous slowdown that accompanies the intense onscreen action. It's so bad that it just about ruins at least one of the boss battles, dropping the frame rate almost to a dead stop.

But I like these kinds of beat-em-up games, in spite of their technical problems. I played a lot of hours of Advance Guardian Heroes, and Odin Sphere appears to be somewhat the same kind of game. AGH also had horrendous slowdown, but I still enjoyed it. As a matter of fact, I took advantage of the slowdown because the breakneck pace of the game was a little too much for me to handle anyway. I don't think I could have beaten it without the slowdown giving me time to plan my next move.

If, for some reason, I end up not liking Odin Sphere I'm comforted to know that the game will probably retain its value so I can trade it for something else that's $40.

Yeah, slowdown didn't ruin SkyGunner. That's another gorgeous Atlas-published game that got slammed in the reviews and loved by those who actually made the purchase.

I pre-ordered the game from buy.com and got the GCO for $33 because I live in Cali and there is a tax grrr.
But I just got an e-mail saying there is a delay in shipment because they sold out of them!!!
Sucks...guess ill have to wait till next shipment.

First console new release I've bought since Guitar Hero 1 a year and a half ago.

FYI, CA people should use cduniverse rather than buy to save on tax. In this particular case, you pay a little under $32 shipped... I've used cduniverse for many GCO items already and they are pretty good in general.
