Yakuza 2 coming to North America!

So 1up was right.

Too bad it's not coming out this year though.

Oh well, I'm just glad we're getting it. I hope what 1up said about it having only subs is true.

I personally loved Yakuza 1. It has characteristics of Shenmue, Grand Theft Auto, beat em ups, and rpgs. I loved it because of the side quests and the sweet fighting moves you can pull off if your special meter is full. A lot of people hate it for the voice acting, the repetitive fighting, and other negatives i can't think of at the moment. It's a love it or hate it game.

Dang, it's about time. I really, really hope they get wise and include the Japanese voices this time, or at least, a less hammy English translation. That really took away from the first game, for me.

I loved it as well.

People compare it to Shenmue, but it's way better IMO. The story is better, the gameplay is better, the voice acting is better (which is really really really sad  )

It's pretty much a brawler. If you like brawlers you should like this game. The only thing I didn't like was when they were talking, every other word was fuck. I love it though and can't wait for the second game.

It sounds like the sequel fixes much of the fighting system problems of the first. They pretty much removed the load times before fights, and they made it easier to fight enemies that are on the side or in back of Kazuma.

Should be a fun game. Glad to hear they're bringing it over.

oh yes!

i loved yakuza 1 mostly for its environment/location and the fighting. Imo it's quite satisfying to bust some heads up in that game.

EJACULATORY RESPONSE

Hopefully 1up will also be right about the game being in Japanese with English subs. If you think an English dub would be better, you are wrong.

Sounds good to me. As long as Mark Hamill, Michael Madsen, or anyone who is American is not doing any VO for the game (No offence to them; Mark rules as the Joker and Michael was cool in Reservoir Dogs). IMHO this is one of those games that should only be subbed.
Was the first game good? I heard it was pretty bad...
I thought it sucked ass.

I just read the other day some site was talking to Nagoshi and he said they were "thinking about" bringing it over. I guess they thought fast.

I had a blast with the first one. Still haven't finished it but I'm determined not to let it languish forever. I was disappointed when the sequal looked like it wasn't going to make the trip.

Bring on the subtitles!

I reluctantly agree with the pro-Japanese voiceover crowd, though I'll miss the nuances of them finding so many different ways to say "C'mere fucker!"

Yes!

I loved Yakuza. I think they tried to stretch the story out a little too far at the end, but I think it's the best 3D brawling game out there.

Is Yakuza as confusing as Shenmue? I tried playing Shenmue and had a tough time with it - not knowing what I was suppose to do and when, getting lost because all the names were foreign.

May pick up the first one to try it out.

I loved the first one a lot, so I'm glad the second one's getting a U.S. release. I was concerned about it not coming out since it's been so long since the JPN release.

Nope, you shouldn't get lost at all.

It always tells you on the map in the corner where you need to go.

I'll openly admit that I liked the sheer usage of the word "fuck" in th English dub. Yakuza is the only game I've ever played that's resulted in me using "fuck" far more often than I already do. And I say "fuck" a lot.

Good news is... Sony dropped their policy about requiring English voice overs... Games released in the US can now have JUST English subtitles...

Great stuff huh? :)

Actually, this is the ONLY reason Yakuza 2 was announced here... wink wink.

If anyone is excited about Ryu Ga Gotoku 3... here's some info on it:

I'm super excited for Ryu Ga Gotoku 3! I imported/played the first two and after watching what Sega has in store for part 3, I am shittin' bricks....

Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 takes place in the Edo period, which is the birthplace of the Yakuza in Japan. The story centers around Kiryuu Kazumanosuke as the main character. He lives in the Rion region and pretty much does whatever he wants and lives a carefree lifestyle. It's not until a certain series of events that he sets off from Rion to go to other places in Japan.

Basically Kiryuu is the legendary Miyamoto Musashi... BUT during his peaceful times in Rion, someone has been causing terror all over Japan using his name. So this imposter Miyamoto Musashi has been giving Kiryuu a bad name and a little girl who Kiryuu meets with sees how strong he is and begs of him to "Please KILL Miyamoto Musashi"... It is only then when Kiryuu realizes there is someone using his name.

Also if you noticed in the trailer it shows Kiryuu fighting against another swordsman and is having trouble against him... he asks him "WHO ARE YOU!"... the man replies... "I am Sasaki Kojiro!" Crazy!

Can't wait for this game!

Ancestor of Kiryuu Kazuma = Miyamoto Musashi = hot...

Also you can see Majima's ancestor in the trailer lol!

Basically Kiryuu is the legendary Miyamoto Musashi

What. That's interesting.

Ya know, the only other complaint I have about Yakuza is it's name here in the States..."Yakuza" just seems kinda plain. I think it would have been waaaaay cooler to use a translation of it's original Japanese title, and call it "Like a Dragon." That just sounds so badass, and way more unique than "Yakuza."

Man, Sony dropping their "standards" seems to be the best thing to happen to ths system. We get games we otherwise wouldn't have gotten, in their original language, and we get a lot of fighting games now too.

Who, exactly, were these policies helping?

Basically Kiryuu is the legendary Miyamoto Musashi

After reading half of Musashi (the historical fiction), I gotta admit, I'm not too crazy about this. I mean c'mon did Musashi change his name 3 times?? Grah, I'm still looking forward to yakuza 2 though.

Much like the purported "no 2D games" policy, I don't really believe Sony ever actually had this policy. Trapt's voices were Japanese only, and that came out in 2005. And I swear there was a Mega Man game here or there that only had Japanese voices.

Yeah I said the same exact thing when people made this comment about the original Yakuza. There are a number of PS2 games that have Japanese only voices. Genji is another one.
Never played it, I think it might've been one of X4-X6.
Then from those choices it's either X5 or X6, don't quite remember.

To get on topic though, yay. Now I have a good reason to finish up the first Yakuza.

The first Gungrave also had Japanese only voice work.

I was planning to get the first but neever got around to it. Great to see the second is coming here, though :)
