I'm going to San Diego for the first time in a couple weeks and would love for any SD local cags to throw out some ideas and must see locations. Must go to restaurants would be great especially Mexican food and Sushi. There is i'm sure great Mexican food but where is the best must eat? Also I surf so where are the legandary surfshops/beaches that I must hit? Also shopping? Any cool outdoor mall? Maybe a store that you can't go to anywhere else but SD? Videogames? Comics? Toys? Antiques? I can't wait to see this place...Anyway thanx for any help...

Edit: ooo forgot also actual addresses would be incredible since I will have a rental car so I can just plug the addresses into the GPS

I'm not from the area but was there a couple of years ago. I ate sushi at a place called Ra Sushi (http://www.rasushi.com/).

The food was great and the waitresses cute, but I've never seen so many douchebags in my entire life. You would see flocks of dudes and each of them would be wearing those gay forearm bands.

lol I'm def preparing myself for a gaggle of douches at certain clubs/eateries. Thanx for the idea.

Tio Leo's was always one of my favorite sit-down mexican food places when I lived there. Here's the one I lived closest to but there are a couple of them around.

6333 Mission Gorge
San Diego

In & Out Burger is another former fave of mine. It's basically fast food but unlike BK or McDonalds, you don't feel fat and unhealthy afterwards.

Thanx Tio Leo's looks cool and they have an online coupon. In and out burger is a definite on my list and that mall looks pretty big says it has 200 stores. Thanx everyone so far

Any other ideas local spots from anyone else?....some hidden location that only you would know about?.....

In n Out is the most overrated fast food chain there is. Period.

I agree its overrated, but its still delicious. Its literally the burgers you could/would make at home.

I suggest eating all the california-style food. Basically hit up random joints and order stuff with avocados tossed on  If you're not on a diet get some carne asada fries, basically carne asada nachos with fries instead of chips. I'd hit up all the beachs, La Jolla has a real nice surf scene. Its a short drive from downtown San Diego but its beautiful. Theres Horton Plaza thats a pretty cool shopping complex area. As mentioned, Fashion Valley is a nice area. I had a friend take me there last spring break before she dropped me off at the airport.

Agreed 101%! I've tried to see what others see in the place, but I can't... It's just not that good. I'd rather eat Carl's Jr. for fast food burgers anyday...

Since no one's actually given you any real advice on places to hit up, let me be the first.

Go to Old Town. There's incredible food up and down the main street there. When I was there, or go for vacation, I practically go there every night to a different restaurant. My personal favorite is the Coyote Catina. First one you see when you turn on the street, and is just delicious food. It's awesome to see them make the tortillas you are going to eat right in front of your eyes, and the dining room is awesome. The climate is usually temperate in Cali so you can choose to sit outside.

You also have to hit up Mission Bay and probably sea world if you've never done it.

Seaport Village is a must and is just beautiful any time of the year. There's a burger joint there, the name eludes me, but it's a local place and nestled in a corner of seaport, but is absolutely delicious. Get one of their cheeseburgers with avocado and ranch. Yum...... I think their name is Balboa Burger company or something like that.

La Jolla is a blast. Great beaches and beautiful views.

Edit....Err...I didn't see that some posted about Fashion Valley Mall. Fashion Valley is a gorgeous mall to walkthrough. Last time I was there was during the some to pick up some clothes, but you can always catch a nice breeze coming through there.

To elaborate on the old town suggestion, go to Harney sushi in old town, place is amazing. Ra Sushi isn't as good as harney. However, if you wanted to check out the Ra Sushi downtown, it's right near horton plaza which is a pretty interesting outdoor mall. So you could kill two birds with one stone, but I would definitely check out old town regardless.

For mexican try Pokez. It's a regular mexican food place except they offer vegetarian and vegan substitutes for anything if you want it. Everything I've had there,
vegetarian or not, has been delicious.

There are definitely better sushi places in San Diego than Ra Sushi. I've had it in Irvine and the sushi was mearly average. The only thing that that place had going for it was the damn cute waitresses.

I don't have any suggestions for sushi though since I usually don't get it when i'm down there. There is a good Chinese place that serves pretty good Dim Sum. Its called Emerald's and is in Clairemont.
Go check out the tiger exhibit at the zoo...:whistle2:$
Oh I get it. Too bad San Diego is only 500 miles from the San Francisco Zoo where the tiger incident happened.

Thanx guys great ideas so far. I'm so overwhelmed by the food choices. I'm also staying in Rancho Bernardo before I get to SD so if anyone knows about that place that would be much appreciated also. Also surfshops/skateshops/video games/comic shops/more shopping?

Actually, the San Diego Zoo is awesome. One of the best in the country, really. The Wild Animal Park is also pretty cool. If you go later in the year, its always fun to go to Petco Park to catch a Padres game. Old Town is a lot of fun with lots of good Mexican restaurants. And the San Diego Mission is an interesting visit if you're interested in historic landmarks.

You have to hit up Cotijas while you're in SD. They have a few locations scattered throughout San Diego County so it should be easy to find. Ones in Pacific Beach right on Garnet (which is a kickass area to burn a few hours. Lots of Nightlife). Also on Garnet is a few good surf shops worth hitting up.

Oh yeah, new law in effect as of this upcoming monday: No alcohol allowed on beaches in San Diego county.

The ban was proposed by Councilman Kevin Faulconer after a Labor Day melee in Pacific Beach resulted in riot gear-clad police being pelted with beer cans and 16 arrests. The fracas was blamed on drunken revelers.

Thats why I like PB.

You have to check out the Hotel Del Coronado. The historic hotel is on one of the prettiest beaches I've been to. Hopefully it'll be sunny out.

If you want to hit up a burger joint at a beach, check out Hodads in Ocean Beach. Best burgers I've had in SD.

Also, the newish mall in East Lake/Otay Ranch is pretty nice.
