Embedding movies works haphazardly

I'm not talking about wrapping media tags around something, I mean purely linking to a video. Seems like if you just type in the url, it automatically formats it in a way that a post's coding WANTS to automatically embed it, but it can't unless it's a youtube video.

In other words, if I want to link to a trailer at Gametrailers, and I paste in the url, it creates this little box instead of just having yellow words that contain the link.

Likewise, if there's a situation where I don't want to embed the video and just link to it, it might still embed it. So instead of just having a Youtube link, I can't - it HAS to embed it, even if I'm assigning it as a hotlink to a group of words.

Don't know if this happens to anyone else, or if I'm doing something wrong, but wanted to see if anyone has this issue or if it's just me.

I haven't ran into that problem, but if you have full editing on for your posts/replies you can use the insert link option instead of just pasting the URL in the message box.

I actually encountered this today, since I just wanted to provide a link to a video and not embed it. Is there any way that this can be looked into?

any update on this?

this happened, in the process of which i searched the forum for "youtube" and found this thread.

i'm sure this is, understandably, low priority. just wanted to bring it up again since it's been a while and maybe fallen off the radar.
