EB/GS Trade in your phat xbox and get a 4gb slim for $29

I posted this in the flyer thread but it definitely deserves its own thread; I did this morning, no problems at all. The promo used to only be eligible for the 250GB and 4GB Kinect models, but it now includes the standard 4GB Slim model.

What is required when you trade it in? If I already have all my saved games, XBLA games, etc, on my current xbox harddrive, is there a way of backing them up or something before the trade in? I've been wanting to upgrade to a slim 360 for awhile now and this is definitely tempting.

Sorry I didn't see your post in the flyers thread.

You only need the xbox, cables, power brick and a controller. You only need to bring the hdd if you want extra credit.

Seems like a pretty cool deal to me, but it seems like a waste considering I still only have a 20GB HDD. So that'd basically mean I'd have to buy a new HDD, or get one of those things to slip the old one into. It just seems like I'd be spending $40 or so just to get something shiny and new, which isn't really necessary. Darn this for being a pretty sweeet sounding deal none-the-less though....

I ordered a HHD case from Deal Extreme a week or two ago (I went for the 4g Kinect bundle XD) and it shipped fine, as for when it will actually show up? Who knows with DE.

It's definitely worth it for that price, the noise reduction alone is worth the money! You should lookl into making a custom 360 HDD, thats what I ended up doing; 250 gigs for about $55 bucks!

I'm going to sound like a complete noob by asking this I'm sure but how do you go abouts getting a 250GB for $55? I'm tempted to upgrade to the slim model but don't want to sacrifice everything that is on my current Xbox HDD (I have the 60GB model) for the sake of extra credit.

PS. The main banner on the GS website says this expires on April 30th (tomorrow). Was it that short lived of a deal?

i've been waiting 3 months for my casing from DE, they claim that it's normal shipping time. funny, when i ordered my saturn usb controller from HK, it was here in 10 days.

Essentially, you get a cheap 250gig drive and turn it into a 360 drive with your computer. With the slim it is even easier to do since you don't have to worry about taking the drive in and out of the Phat HDD case.
Anyone know if you trade in a 360 without a hard drive if it has to be an arcade model?
I traded my 20 gig without the drive and there wasn't any problem.

Thanks for the info. I have a spare HDD from an old computer sitting around.... I may have to look into this a bit further...

I have a few questions. First, will my 120GB HDD from my old console work with the slim one. Second, do I need to trade in the WiFI adapter for the credit? Or will that give me bonus credit? I honestly haven't cared to look at the new ones that much since my current one has worked fine, but I could definately see upgrading for that price. Also, is the slim 4GB a new one or a used one?

Nevermind, I just realized this deal is Canada only. Dangit.

Um, it says on the website you have to get a 250G Xbxo 360.... or a 4G Xbox... WITH KINECT.

I don't think the 4G Arcade models qualify.. which means you can't just get one for 29.99... thread title is misleading and inaccurate according ebgames.ca

The advert is on the main page sliding banner it lists the option to trade an old console + $29.99 for the new 4gb model but when clicked takes you to the page that lists only the 250gb and kinect. I think it was just an oversite on their part not updating that page since the front page clearly states that you can.

You can also trade in 5 games for $125 and pay the $5 difference.

Oh and the $100 deal for your old system always worked for 4gb\250gb models without kinect.

Picked up a 4 GB tonight for $29 after trading in my old 120gb elite, the deal is good. :D

Bought the 250 GB drive for $99 as well. $128 for a 4 GB system with 250GB drive I add myself sure beats $300 for essentially the same thing already put together. :D

What if we have the older component HD cables that MS doesn't sell anymore? The newer consoles only come with composite cables... Would have to lay the money down for an HDMI cable..

You can ask the employee if you can keep your current cables. I went to two different EB's (one was a Gamestop) and as long as I opened the new system after the trade was finished they had no problem exchanging the cables (just say another store let you do it before).

I paid $0 for my 4GB, non-Kinect system in this deal. The woman at my local EB said that 'as long as you're trading your old system in for a new Slim, it doesn't matter which one.'. Disassembled my 120 GB HD from the phat and slid it in last night. Works fine. :D But, would still like to get a cage for the thing.

Vancouver area eb games seems to be out of 4gb xbox 360... Have to wait until shipment before I can jump on this deal.

Checked my local store this morning (Sat) manager said they had six 4GB 360 when the sale started and they were gone in two hours. Same thing at the other store in town. I will check back throughout the week but this is a long shot. Too bad, seeing as my old Phat just started giving me E65 errors.
Do they test the old systems you trade in? My Xbox RROD'd about 3 months ago.
It depends on the person. Some of them are paranoid and will check, in which case they can refuse you if they see the red rings. Just do the towel trick before you trade in and it should be fine. All they do is plug your system into an outlet to check the ring.

Is this deal still on? I don't have a day off until middle of next week unfortunately and would still love to cash in then.

Called a few stores in Edmonton and I was told they ended the promo yesterday (Saturday). I was told they were sent an e-mail telling them to notify customers it's over early....but they couldn't answer why the website still lists it.
You may want to call and find out.

Wait how do you get it exactly for 40 dollars? I called gamestop and they offered a 90 dollar credit for the xbox. But the 4 gb slim is 200 dollars. So the difference would be 120.00 not 40 bucks.

The price of the 4gb slim went down to 129.99 as a sale.

uuugghh nevermind just realized this is for Canada only in the us the slim is still 200 bucks. But I might still trade in my 360 my 90 bucks store credit.

Doesn't work if your Xbox sealed is break.

Mine was because I had it repair for RROD and they didn't accept.

Kind of suck. But I can't do anything about it.
If I hadn't performed a license transfer in the past year, I'd be all for it.
That's not a problem. You can go to download history and select re-download and it'll download the license for each individual item. Doing it on Xbox.com is just faster.

He speaks the truth. You can play the licenses you own on the Xbox you downloaded them on and on any xb you sign in to.

Well I finally set-up my Slim yesterday, and man is that power supply noisy. It's a 'Revision B', which is not supposed to be the best revision out there, which is a little frustrating. Everyone touts these things as "whisper quiet" and yadda yadda yadda, but it's only marginally better than my old phat 360. Oh well, I'll wait for a week or so and trade in my other phat 360 and hope I get a model that's manufactured a bit later and has the better PSU (my current Slim was manufactured in November 2010).

Is there a link you have on the versions for the slim? After two RRODs I want to know what I might be getting into! Hahaha!
If I hadn't performed a license transfer in the past year, I'd be all for it.
I sent an email to Xbox support about the license transfer thing and the guy said that Microsoft updated the policy and now you can use the license transfer tool once every four months instead of the previous limit of once a year.

Word of advice: CALL THE STORE FIRST! I just called two separate locations. The first one accurately told me they were sold out of the 4G model, and the second told me that they just got some in but wouldn't hold one for me. I called back a few minutes later to just see how many units they got in before I headed out, and was told by the csr who answered (not the original) that the guy was misinformed and they had actually been sold out since the weekend.

Both stores told me they might be receiving a shipment tomorrow and to check then. Just keep in mind that the word is out on these things, and it seems employees have been specifically instructed to not hold systems for customers over the phone!

Edit: Forgot to mention that the first store said the 4GB model is pretty much sold out across the entire GTA.

Ah, I thought it seemed odd when it said that I could next use the tool in August while I was transferring licenses to my new slim. That explains it!

Are they getting any units before May 12th or whenever the $100 TIV ends?

My EB Games told me today they got an email from head office saying that most stores won't be receiving any until near the end of the month to early next month (after the promo of course). Argh.
