Did you guys dump your PS2 console?

My PS2 is sitting in my cabinet and hasn't been touched since Final Fantasy XII came out. I'm thinking of selling it but a part of me thinks I would want to replay Final Fantasy X-2 and Kingdom Hearts (I heard Final Fantasy X is being remade for PS Vita so no worries there). But I can't see myself turning on the system ever again (I mean it has been years), not to mention PS2 games look like ass on an HDTV.

Did you guys dump your PS2 console?

Hell no. I've got HDAdvance and a 500GB hard drive full of games. And they don't look like ass if you've got component cables, especially if the game supports 16:9 and 480p/1080i. The only way I'd put it away is if they released NiGHTS, Virtua Fighter 2 & Virtua Cop 1 + 2 on the Xbox Marketplace.

I still have my fatty one with a HD full of games as well. Makes it easier to not have to take games of my PS2 shelf. Plus it puts less stress on my 60GB PS3.

I also have 2 slims, 1 black one and the white singstar bundle, which is still sealed. :D

I don't think I will ever put my PS2 away honestly. So many memories with that system :)

I dumped mine awhile back, but missed it so much, I ended up picking one up again anyways, so to answer your question, not really. :p

I've still got my fat one. I have 142 PS2 games currently, and RPGs are my favorite genre, sooooo I couldn't live without a PS2 haha

I still play PS2 games on a regular basis, so I don't see myself ever getting rid of it. I did have a 20GB PS3 that I was using to play PS2 games but it got the red light of death so I am back to using the PS2 for PS2 games.

I sold mine when I got it out of the closet one day and it had magically stopped working. I nearly bought one the other day but I had no way to test it.

I still have a fat PS2 hooked up. My 60gb PS3 is BC but I don't know, PS2 games just don't feel right on it, and honestly I prefer the way the games look on a big old CRT compared to an HD set.

Unfortunately a lot of the games I missed the first time around were RPGs and realistically, I will never have time for them.

I had a fat and a slim crap out on me, then I found a fat with an HD Loader at a garage sale and kept it since.

still have a 9yr old fat one in my room hooked up, and a slim next to my ps3 slim hooked up. play it once a week. My all time fav system. Probably pick up another new slim if they drop super cheap for backup in case the others die in the next decade.

Why would you sell it? Is $20 bucks going to make or break you?

Maybe you can get that new car you always dreamed of.:booty:

Now you guys got me thinking. I have the white PS2 slim that has seen such little use it is practically brand new I still have the box, plastic baggies, and manuals that came with it. I doubt I'd get more than $50 for it. I guess it is better to keep it.

Even without the PS2 library it's worth keeping for the backwards compatibility. If you already have a collection, there's not a lot of sense in rebuying everything as ports or digital downloads IMO.

Still have my 2001 model hooked up to my sd tv in my basement, it waspacked away for a while but my brother wanted to do his little mod thing to play his japanese games

Hell no, if anything I would like a slim PS2 to supplement my fat one just in case. My PS2 is already a decent movie player, with hard drive, and games look fantastic with my components. I've still quite a number of games to beat in my backlog, since I'm a mostly Nintendo player.

Still have my slim (my second PS2; sold my phat), and a second slim in storage. I still have a handful of games for the system in my backlog (mostly JRPGs), plus it has long been my primary DVD player.

Can't imagine ever going without a PS2. It's one of my favorite consoles of all time.

I got rid of my slim a long time ago. Figured that I had the 80GB MGS4 PS3 so I was set.

But then, I won a new PS3 slim and sold the 80GB...so I have a ton of PS2 games but no console.

Actually though, I wouldn't see myself getting the PS2 out anytime soon to play the games anyway...so I'm fine right now. Maybe a long time in the future I'll pick up another slim PS2.

In my 20+ years of gaming, I have dumped 3 consoles: My parents traded in our NES for a Genesis, I gave my PS1 to a friend when I got my PS2 (it was later sold), I gave my old-school game boy to another friend when I got my Game Boy Color (it was later lost). I have regrets about all 3. It's literally been years since I last got rid of a game system. No more regrets!

OK, to be fair, I am on my 3rd Genesis. I gave the original to my sister when I bought a Sega CD/Genesis combo from a friend. Then the Sega CD died. I bought a new one from a very cool flea market booth, and brought them the other one to salvage as they could. So, I suppose I make an exception for dumping systems I have more than one of. (although I can't decide if I want to do that with the extra NES...)

Actually just got mine out from storage a couple weeks ago to play some old school Tony Hawk.

IMO, I dont think any console is worth dumping.

If Sony still made a backward compatible PS3 I would sell or give them away to family members; I kind of want to play them upscaled. Currently I have 3 with HDloader and huge hard drives attached and even then my complete library doesn't fit on them.

My desire to collect PS2 games seems to have subsided though. There's no thrill; I used to find amazing deals on ebay or liked b2g1f sales at Gamestop but they don't carry as many PS2 games as before. (Also probably because I don't have as much time as before and tighter budget due to mortgage.)

I did accidentally replay Onimusha 3 thinking I didn't finish the game and started on Onimusha 4 recently.

Yeah, PS2s are so cheap. I have a silver slim and a fat model that i repaired myself. I keep it around just for collections like Taito Legends and Mega Man X Collection, and the Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 port.

Well it is the HD remakes like Ico, MGS, and God of War (and the upcoming Final Fantasy X) that make me want to dump the PS2 in the first place. A lot of these games like MGS3, God of War, and SOTC I have never played so I would very much prefer to play the prettied up versions in HD.

I'll keep mine just for all the oddball games out there. I sometimes come across some weird game I still want to play.

I've never sold any of my systems. I have everything still hooked up to my tvs. Got my sega master system, genesis, saturn, dreamcast, nintendo, super nintendo, 64, gamecube, xbox, playstation 1 all hooked up in my bedroom and I have my ps2, ps3, 360 and wii hooked up in my living room.

I love being able to play whatever system I want whenever I want. Only downside is my backlog is insane even though I try to at least beat everything I buy lol

No I kept mine due to it being modded so I can play import titles. Had Sony gotten rid of region restrictions on the Playstation 3 for ps2 games I would have had no problem getting rid of the system.

No, I bought my first PS2 last year at a yard sale, and over this summer I scored a PS2 slim for $8. I am definitely not getting rid of them. I have one hooked up to my CRT in the other room. They also make great DVD players, and the DVD remote can be found for a couple bucks.

Unfortunately, the great deals were on new systems were earlier this year. Target already got rid of their systems (the lowest price was $49.98) in the spring and Sears had them for $19.97 - $29.97 over the summer. Best Buy has yet to clearance them and considering they really scaled down their PS2 section, I would guess sometime next year they'll stop carrying the systems.

Mine was lost in the great "I don't need all this shit" sale of 2010. Someone here is playing mine, and my copy of Gradius V! Be good to her, or else...

I dumped my fat PS2 right around the time I got rid of my last gen game collection I had(about 100 titles between PS2 and Xbox, sold here on CAG in one of my first deals made with another CAG on here;)).

But then I got an itch to play GTA: San Andreas and Vice City, so I bought a $50 PStwo slim bundle on clearance from Target a while ago. Long story short, the games I loved on PS2 back in the day did not age well imo. I tried GTA San Andreas and the original Just Cause and both were difficult to play imo.

I packed up the slim bundle and it's been sitting in my closet ever since.

But for those of you who may be looking for a slim PStwo, here's the SKU # and a stock locator link(comes up unavailable for every store w/in a 100 mile radius of me) for the system from Best Buy.com.
anyone know where i can get one, for cheap?
Yard sales are your best bet, they are very cheap around here. Everyone here is dumping their CRT TV's and pretty much everything hooked up to them if it doesn't work with a HDTV. The PS2 looks bad on a HDTV so people are dumping them en masse. There will be even more dumping this summer with all the deals on the Xbox 360, which is the console to have in my area.

Good luck with that. Around here on CL people want $100 for a used PS2 fat model system, sometimes even without games. In the cases where they do have games with the system, the price jumps to $250 and the games are usually sports, sports and more sports.:whistle2:#

I see those too; yet through special yardsale powers my back-up ps2 was $10 (very clean, and with three games to boot) ;)

I'm sure david12795 would get some bites if he posted a Want Ad with a Buy Price in the $20-30 area--not everyone browsing CL is delusional.

I don't trust the stock locators anymore. There have been many times recently when I check the availability of an item that I know is in store and it shows up as unavailable. I just used the stock locator you have here and it shows unavailable but I just saw 5 at my store Tuesday.

Yeah. Usually the stock locator says unavailable if it's 3 or under, but it will typically say available if above 3.
