After 21 years, a new Kid Icarus game has finally arrived thanks to Project Sora. Designed specifically for Nintendo 3DS, the second announced by name 3DS title (Thank you for ruining the honor, Nintendogs + Cats) has finally arrived with a plethora of content, humor and nostalgia. Pit is an angel who can't fly, so he gets Wings from his secret love, Palutena, the Goddess of Light. He must now battle Medusa again, who has been resurrected because evil can only be contained for a quarter century at a time.

I am up to chapter 4... great game so far! The controls took time to get used to, but it is very functional and fine.

I died for the first time earlier tonight. It was kind of cheap, considering how long the level is. Otherwise, I'm really enjoying it after
20 Chapters
.

I'm enjoying this one as well. Gotten pretty far in the single player. 60 percent through, I'd imagine. The multiplayer is great, but I usually come in last place or so. I did finish free for all in 2nd place once and have turned into an angel twice in Light vs Dark. Also killed an angel once in LvsD. The 2nd time I turned into Pit, I lasted about 3 minutes. First time, I was Dark Pit and didn't last long at all. Maybe 45 seconds.

I've been thoroughly enjoying this game, despite the odd controls. I've also spent a good chunk of time playing the 3D classics Kid Icarus as well.

And as for AR card collecting...I'm not sure if I'm going to get into that. I guess it depends on the expense and availability of the cards. As it stands, a quick Google search reveals there are many kind people on the internet now who have scanned their AR cards in so other people can use them. I must have spent an hour yesterday scanning AR cards off my PC screen onto my 3DS.

Oddly enough, playing this game makes me want a 3DS version of Panzer Dragoon.
This link only shows the wrist strap, I have it, it's pretty nice. Most of the time I've seen thumb styli in starter kits. There was a bendy stylus sold in a pack of 2 or three that could be wrapped around your thumb/finger. I have that too and got it at GameStop. I'm not sure which company made it, though.
I don't know if your aware of this or not, you didn't really make it clear. The wrist strap itself was originally packed in with the first iteration of the DS, I don't remember getting it in my DS Lite, DSi or DSi XL but back to the point. The little nubby part at the end of the wrist strap was to be used as the thumb stick used on the screen. You put the little nubby part under your thumb and slide the slider down over it until it's tight. The only game I ever used it for was Mario 64, I don't think very many if any other games took advantage of it.

I'm currently up to
Chapter 24
and I've died 5 times total in the last 3 levels or so. It's kind of getting to me, especially with that last boss being so unclear on how to beat it. Anyway, I went back and beat Chapter 1 in under 4 minutes and once more on 9.0 Intensity. You get hit like a truck on that difficulty. Even 8.0 is a bit easier than 9.0.

I got my Club Nintendo AR cards today, so I scanned those in for more Hearts. Right now, I'd give this game an 8.5/10 due to the control issues during land segments.

I ordered the wrist strap from store.nintendo.com last month (same place as the link) and I did not realize that plastic nub could be used a a stylus. I thought it was just a stopper for the sliding strap adjuster. I really cannot see how that can be used as a stylus. It is so tiny and flat. How would you hold it, much less use it to play? I also find it interesting that right after the description it says: "NOTE: To avoid damage to the touch screen of your Nintendo DS system only use a Nintendo licensed stylus on the touch screen." To me that implies this might not be safe to use?

Assuming it's the same wrist strap, this one came with the original DS.

It's the little nubby part that is on your thumb that goes on your screen, I don't know if you have Mario 64 but I think the instructions are on there I believe.

I took a picture to better illustrate what I was telling you.

Yeah that's the one. OK I see now. It kind of defeats the purpose of the strap if you have to take it off to use the nub. Interesting though. It's easier for me to have the strap on the left of my 3DS because I don't have to move that hand while playing. Plus, I have a Hori extendable stylus and leash attached to the right side. Yes...I drop stuff sometimes:oops:

It took me about
14 hours considering I replayed Chapter 1 about 6 times for various reasons.
I'm going to replay all of the Chapters though since some have Intensity Gates that taunt me. I died 6 or 7 times overall, but it doesn't really set you back far if you die.

This game feels like Smash Bros. before Smash Bros.; hopefully when Smash Bros. comes out I'm not bored of it because of this. I mean this game even has
The Credits Shooting Mini-Game.

Sounds like you enjoyed it then, Broly? I'm tempted to get it while it's $30 since 1st-party games usually take forever to come down in price, but I've heard such bad things about the on-ground controls that I'm not sure.

Only played the first two levels, but I'm already really, really digging this game.

The controls are an acquired taste, but they feel so much more visceral than other options. That is not to say more options shouldn't have been offered, but I think it really does make sense when you consider how quickly you want to react.

I just beat the game myself and have been replaying levels for treasure hunt. Awesome game, surprised to see such little talk about it on this board. Feel free to add me as a friend.

Is anyone actually using the weapon gems their receiving each day? I've ground up the last two after making the first one I got into a weapon. Stats were horrible on it.

Finally placed first on my team in a LvsD match. Only problem was we lost. I was wailing on the Dark Pit too. So close.

Regarding the AR card game that comes with Kid Icarus Uprising, is there any benefit to collecting or having the cards? Does scanning them provide in-game bonuses? Or are they just for a cool little visual battle scenario through the 3DS camera? How does Street Pass work in this game?

The controls complaints is pretty much the same thing as we saw when console games forced M+KB users to adopt dual analog controls. Now you just have dual analog people complaining about something, except that the new format offers better control, speed and accuracy once you get past the learning curve.

You get the in-game idols for the cards you scan. They're just something to collect.

This game is a ton of fun and anyone who didn't pick it up earlier for $29.99 at Best Buy or Target's B2G1F should give it a go while these sales are still going on. Sakurai packs so much into his games and once you tweak the controls to your liking (I suggest almost to the end of the 'Stop Quicky' spectrum on 'Land'), the meaty campaign and fun and so far non-laggy online is a blast. I hope this game finds commercial success.

I believe street pass functionality is just trading weapon gems. I've not had a street pass on this game yet, but it did make me choose a weapon gem for it when I set it up in the game.

It is not a trade, you keep your own weapon

Started the game last night and tried the first stage twice, and the controls are going to take even more getting used to than I expected. I'll give this setting a try.

I hope it helps. Just get used to swiping to turn and then tapping to stop. Pit makes the comment about turning in the game like spinning a globe. He doesn't mentioning tapping to stop.

Freaking love this game. My #2 3DS game so far(SM3DL being my #1), there's just so much to like. The gameplay, voice acting(I do, admittedly, have a soft spot for Ali Hillis), writing, customization and visuals just all come together so nicely in one great package. There's just so much to this game, tons and tons of replayability. All of that and I haven't even touched the multiplayer yet. I've had no issues with the controls after the first mission, I actually like them and can't imagine them working quite as well any other way. Can't gush about this game enough, and I was so skeptical about it prior to release. The only reason I really pre-ordered was for the 3D Classic of the original. I'm most pleasantly surprised, and this game is definitely a must-own for your 3DS library.

There was a Nintendo rep at my Best Buy showcasing KI and other Nintendo games. The rep was also giving out packs of AR cards to customers who bought the game and I was lucky enough to get one after chatting with the guy.

Chapter 18 was a bit weird. Fun, but weird. May go ahead a plow through the remaining levels before going back to multiplayer or weapon farming.

Just got my copy today! Stupid Amazon took forever and a day to ship it to me. I'm also looking for people to play muiltiplayer with. :) Feel free to add me and just shoot a PM my way.

am i the only one having a very hard time getting use to the controls? i keep trying to get use to them, and i just cant do it. the on-rails are perfectly fine, but on ground i cant track the enemies and im constantly loosing them... thinking i may need to just sell/trade this one :(

I think the majority of people will have a hard time getting the controls. Even though I've beaten the game I still don't feel like I've mastered them, yet I'm still replaying chapters multiple times for Challenges and MOAR WEAPONS!

I generally avoid stylus-heavy games, which is a big reason I've never used screen protectors. So, for those that have played this... how stylus intensive is it? Worth ponying up the $8 for a screen protector?

If you use the default controls, you're going to want a screen protector. Very stylus intensive unless you're planning on using your thumb on the touch screen to aim.

If getting one is a problem or would make you not want to pick up the game, then I think as long as you're a bit on the careful side when you use the stylus anyway, then you should be fine. I mean, basically all you're using it for in the air is to move the reticle around so the stylus STAYS on the screen most of the time(you aren't constantly jabbing away at the touch screen). On the ground it's basically the same thing, but with some quick swipes thrown in there to move the camera. I have a screen protector, but at no point have I said, "Man, I'm SO glad I have this screen protector on here!". Of course, you may be better off just grabbing one just in case.

Funny I avoid non stylus games. I figure if I want to play on the ds., use what makes the ds unique.
what are you guys doing to make the ground controls better? switching to the abxy for reticle?
At first I wasn't used to the default controls, but after using them- I am definitely familiar with them. I use the default. It functions very well.

This!

Saw the strategy guide at GameStop today. It states it comes with 3 AR cards, one of which is Dark Pit (flying). I wonder if the other 2 are random cards or if all the guides come with the same set of cards. The book is sealed in shrinkwrap so I don't know what the other cards are.

Got them from where? The same as what? Are you talking about the cards in the guide?
